How do we help players like these?
GarrusBrutus replied to Bear__Necessities's topic in General Discussion
If they like to sail around and shoot stuff I'd recommend playing a bit of coop games to give themselves some time to atleast learn the basic skills. And then go up in the tiers slowly to fully grasp everything thats going on and to be able to do.... stuff. Instead of spawning, pressing W and the left mouse button one or two times before being sent back to port after mere three minutes into the battle. But for the love of god do not free xp to tier 10. And most certainly not in a CV. -

How is this fun? Not for the 30% WR stay-at-home-dad or elderly potato and not for the 70% WR elitist epeen-stroking basement residing lowlife keyboard warrior. Cant show the stats of my team since that would probably fall into the "naming and shaming" category but you guys can probably guess. -

When watching my teammates' stats at the start of the game: Most of the time most of them are "Superunicum at losing". But hey, fun for everyone yay! -
Yeah so I can kill Gulio Cesares with my Mikase.

Sorry, are you suggesting that I'm defending abuse in chat? I thought we were discussing the main factors that lead to chat abuse. Ofcourse is should be minimalised in every way possible because at the end of the day nobody should get verbally harassed while playing a game, if it is either sports, chess or gaming. I do think however that the raging you often see in chat would be alot less if people took the time and effort to learn the very basics of the game they are playing. I get it. Its a free to play game and some do not have the time to get into all the details and the mechanics and so forth, but when you do not know the simplest things you're in for a ride. Because you will be a liability to your team each and every time you press the battle button. These are often the kind of people who come to the forum crying how they get "abused" in the game chat yet when you check out their profile you'll see they've skipped through tiers 2-7 and bought a Tirpitz (in which they do less average damage then most of us would do in a T2 destroyer). I'm sorry but I'm not really sorry, because then you deserve to be told that what you're doing just isn't right. Why not? Because you'll be actively yet unknowingly (*cough dunning kruger*) sabotaging the games, and leisure time for that matter, of all the other players in the games you're in. And that is just as bad for this game as the verbal abuse displayed by certain players. Why do you and me and most of the players who are atleast decent at this game get so little abuse towards us? And why do others perceive this game as toxic? Probably because of what I just wrote.

This! If you get a lot of abuse then maybe you should change what you're doing because it is obviously triggering your teammates.

For the sake of having a strong tournament the organisers should make participating as appealing as possible in order to get as many participants as possible and from the entire skill-spectrum. To achieve this the most important thing is having as few restrictions as possible. The stalingrad creates not a restriction perse but it does create this feeling of 'I'm at a disadvantage anyway" with potential participants or current participants who don't have it. If that feeling is justified or not and if the ship is OP or not, doesn't really matter. Because what matters is if people are willing to play in the tournament. The more people playing the more popular and known KotS will become, with all benefits that flow from it (bigger prize pools, larger audiences, more CCs involved, etc. Etc.). That's the end goal here, no matter if youre a hurricane clan or a gale clan. Because what does the end victory mean if only a few teams enter the competition? So, despite me being on the stalingrad isn't OP side of the fence, for KotS I believe it's best if only sliver ships were allowed.

Maybe my eyes fooled me but I've watched both Flambass' and Flamu's stream back (didnt have time sunday & monday) and in neither of them did I see a match that was decided by a stalingrad in whatever way; its ability to tank or radar or its firepower. What I did see were Stalingrads getting permaspotted and lit on fire again and again and again: Those 71k hitpoints diminished really fast.

@Ostria74 *edit You see, this is what separates the good players from the bad. The good players will say "How I am playing right now doesn't work, let's see what I can change to make it work." Bad players will blame anything and everything but themselves for their poor results. Do you want to be in the first group? Then ask the forum for tips, for captain builds, for specs, for advice and whatnot. Instead of ranting that the ship is bad, because it is not. Have a nice day, bye.

Since most shima players are gluesniffers and will stay on the map border spamming 20km torps, I can't tell you how happy I am that this is prevented with RPF. Flanking DDs (E.g. Disregarding the whole objective-based gameplay and going for damage/kills) are just as bad for the game as borderhumping BBabies in my book. Sure, in some instances it might pay off but lets face it: The majority of shima-players will fail miserably. When I play my shima I'm usually at very low dmg-numbers until the very end of the game when I can devstrike a lone target. Before that I'm the eyes for my team and I try to contest the caps. Ofcourse everyone likes to devstrike oblivious enemies with 15 torpedo-carpets, it is just so situational that it is not real to expect it to happen every game. RPF doesn't influence the amount of times you can do this really. Since it is a rare occurance to be on the flank of multiple enemies at once anyway. I'd suggest to play for caps and play patiently, while you ambush single targets with your torps. It is highly effective and the effect of enemy RPF on this gameplay-style is minimal.
-
It completely ruins your DD experience? Well, your exaggerating-skills are 10/10. I just don't share your opinion. When you get RPFed for half the game doing exactly nothing its not the RPF thats at fault, it is you. Even when the entire enemy team has rpf you can still scout and contest caps, deny areas with torps, etc., etc. You are a very good player, judging by your stats, so you should be able to outplay 8/10 players who play this game. Most players arent that good, so even if they have RPF they still make a mistake which you can punish. I just cant imagine a player of your skill having a rpf-torpduel on the edge of the map with another shima.... Sounds pretty bad to be honest. I play DDs often myself and I've never been in situations where I thought to myself "Oh boy, the enemy has RPFand now I can't do anything.". What bothers me more when playing DD is the amount of hydro/radar/invisible planes that spot you/planes from CVs that make your DD life hard, but thats another topic.

TL:DR? -
maybe you die in your DD at the start of the game, but I dont. So it's basically a L2P issue. I see your average damage in t8 and 9 dds are just abysmal. Maybe work on that... Really? You pull the reality card? Its an arcade game mate. And why do you cry so much about the game changing? It keeps the game attractive. Everyone has to deal with changes over time but somehow they all work in your disadvantage. I really do not see this the way you do. If you keep track of the updates and make them work in your advantage it's nothing to cry about. You've been here since 2015. There have been dozens of additions to the game and many changes. You're saying that only now it has become unbearable? Okay. Bye then.
