Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance
GarrusBrutus replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Anywho... wether we like it or not, in due time the playerbase will get worse and worse, and with it the quality of games will plummit and the skill disparity just grows. It is just a given. Just like any other "play for free" game. Always has been and always will be. It goes like this: -

Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance
GarrusBrutus replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
which doesnt make sense. A player who plays one battle and loses has zero percent winrate, so he influences the metrics A LOT whilst maybe he just had one bad game. It is unreliable because: the metrics used are either overall winrate or ship winrate. Both of which are not telling much about how good a player currently is. Overall winrate might be low from when the player was learning the game, whilst he currently might be at super unicum level. Shipwinrate is total BS since one player with only a few battles might skew the data heavily. E.g. a player who loses his first 5 games and thus has zero percent winrate skews the overall average shipwinrate of the team by quite some margin. You use these averages to "proof" a point whilst the data is not saying much to begin with. What I do find interesting though, is how you seem to spend a lot of time analysing the data from both teams. Which indicates to me you care about performance. Why not spend that time to influence the one thing you can improve upon: Yourself and your own gameplay. No matter how much data and how many spreadsheets you analyse, the only way to get better is be critical of yourself. That is how I improved over time. (https://wows-numbers.com/player/charts/529966534,GarrusBrutus/?type=solo) I went a head and looked at your statistics. Your survival % is really low, indicating you overextend or push at the wrong time a lot. You average frags/game are also really low, which could be a result of the aforementioned. If you want to truly boost your winrate and performance, I could analyse some replays of you and give you some constructive criticism with tips and tricks. -

How is this calculated? How do you know everyone's stats from each match? Matchmaking monitor? Well... That is highly unreliable data. For multiple reasons that I'll explain if you want. Besides, nobody conducting such experiments with their own data is objective. You feel you should win more, as does every player in this game. Also, even though 600 battles may seem like a lot, it is in fact very little data to draw conclusions from. Just one frustrated session or a couple of bad games will skew the data. What I also fail to understand is this: you're a 48% wr player. Your team has won about 47% of the time in 600+- battles, correct? What % of battles did you expect to win? -
I can't be the only one who struggle to have fun in this game.

@Eagle_Six_TR I feel you, but the game is always changing. And so is the playerbase. Old players leave and new ones come in. Sometimes I watch some old PhlyDaily videos to remember why I fell in love with this game. 6yo Yamato gameplay. -
Ranked Battles: The Sixth Season - Tiers.
GarrusBrutus replied to Creativity_PL's topic in General Discussion
Taking a T8 means the enemies get atleast one T8 as well. Besides that, killing T9 ships with a T8 yields more xp due to tier difference and thus means easy star save in the case of a loss. ;) -
...plays accordingly? And how should you play against stealthradar? Just sail to the map border and not participate in the game? Or try to bait their radar and taking some inevitable damage in the hopes your teammates support you and kill them while you survive? Look I respect your different opinion, but saying a radar mino is "really no problem" and "good shimakaze players stay undetected" make me cringe heavily. Shimakaze has one of the biggest HE alpha's in the game. Gunboat shimakaze isnt just some meme like 20km shimakazes. A well played shima uses all her tools to be effective: Her stealth and obviously her torpedoes, but also her potent guns and healthpool. HP is a consumable. Having more of it makes you a more effective player. Anyway, since xp is healthpool % calculated..... I dont mind all these 17900hp shima's. Killing them gives as much xp as killing a full hp kurfurst. And those shima's often die within a few salvoes.

Radar mino? Smaland? Ragnar? Radar YY?
-
Yeah insane. Was playing as Ragnar in ranked and 17900HP-shima's were mostly snacks. At the end of this clip I encounter one of them while i am on 2k hp. Still trade (ok granted, with some help from teammates ).
-
Whenever I see Shimakaze's with 17900 hp, I immediately assume they're bad.

Thats easier said than done mate. It sounds easy in theory, but in reality it is often difficult due to either incapable DDs who don't spot and map layouts with lots of islands. Ofcourse I know very well not to push into them but often when they get spotted they're already within 13km. And even if I started kiting in advance, their secondaries just melt me. Whilst running at max secondary range. That is just retarded.
-
I absolutely despise players like you. So when you're toptier you stay in the game and you happily trash on -2 ships who DO try to play the game and feel good about yourself afterwards? Coward, is the word that comes to mind. It isnt impossible you know, its challenging. If -2 tiers gameplay is too difficult for you, you need to play some lower tiers to master the basics. This kind of behaviour is ultra toxic and gamebreaking. I could post plenty of old screenshots where it was possible to meet Yamato's in my Fuso, but what would it accomplish? As if players like you will ever see the challenge in that. They just want spoonfed gratification and feeling succesful without the hassle of working to become succesful.

How about: Look around between shots often and prevent sailing into the map borders, just as you do with islands.

Are you enjoying these days without Submarines?

Can someone make a poll so we can see how the silent majority thinks about it? :p -
100% agree. Been playing quite a bit of ranked lately and it wasnt uncommon to have up to 6 Schlieffens per game. At some point i just switched from mino/DM to Hindenburg just to farm out these secondary pepega ships from range.
-
Schlieffen is so incredibly OP in ranked, where it is quite easy to create close quarter situations. Idk about randoms, but it is the same as with the Pommern: OP in one gamemode, kinda meh in randoms. Defenitely doesnt need buffs of any sort, because that would be gamebreaking. It is already c*ncer to fight against those OP secondaries.
-
Too bad it's only for Austin. A ship that has one of the lowest #battles of all TX cruisers.
-
After about 6+ years of playing this game I do not need matchmaking monitor to see which team will win before the battle even started. Based on experience I can quite accurately tell the level of players based on ship choice, clantag, division, (lack of) camo, lack of SE on DDs, etc. Etc.. Especially in ranked, this is easier due to the lower number of players. Without seeing any PR or WR, but just watching the opening moves of players already gives away their understanding (or the lack of) of the game.

Petition: Petropavlovsk needs LONGFIRE_BIGFLOOD
GarrusBrutus replied to arttuperkunas's topic in General Discussion
Indeed, I see that part as "skill" too: know where to be not only based upon your own ship choice but also based on your team's position. Being able to predict the teams movement a few minutes in advance is crucial when it comes to early positioning. This mostly requires patience. In your example, had you waited a few minutes for your team to get into position instead of contesting the cap alone, you might have prevented an early death. Caps can be taken later but ships cannot respawn. Patience is the key feature here, a feature sadly most players lack. That might be the hardest part of this game. -

Thats how players stay bad and keep making the same mistakes over and over and over again. That's also what the MM thread is filled with: People who suffer from Dunning Kruger. -
