I know, my aim was just bad (and probably a little RNG unlucky as well, but that was definitely NOT the main cause). Rockets and AP bombs. Although against less nimble cruisers ("Hello Herr Hipper") torps work just as well. Mogami's though melt under rockets like an ice cube in an iron smelter. Go behind islands or run to one corner of the map if no suitable islands were present. Capping went quite quick. 5 points per three seconds which means that usually against a CV the surface ship generates 10 points per second as he's able to get both caps.

a DD has 20k HP at T8 (at best). On top no armour so rockets deal quite a lot of damage. This results in almost every rocket plane attack dealing damage. And sure you can try to smoke cap (by the time you have to save your smoke for your cap you're already at half health), while I wait out your smoke, I can either use torp planes to flush you out of your smoke or replenish my RP's). If you've then capped and run away you have to wait for your smoke to come off CD. Enough time to sink you, but not enough time to have the points make you win. So no, unless you're sure that there is no CV in the enemy team, I consider DDs to be the worst class to choose for this 1v1.

If everything goes planned: Patch 0.8.11 (so the next patch after the current live one)

On a few maps, yes that's possible. Sometimes it requires you to reverse and counter steer at the start of the game. But you still have enough time to get behind cover. I'd say, the worst map for a CV would be shrunken Ocean. The worst was against the Richelieu where I could only launch 5 or 6 squads before he reached me. On this map the island was so close to the map border that I couldn't run. On other maps I could play ring around the rosie and got 10 or more (if needed) squads off against the enemy. So in short: Plenty of time to blapp stuff.

You saw my screenshot on the previous page? Hint: CV's do very well. If played properly that is. No they can't. Even the French DDs WITH speed boost active couldn't reach the cap before I attacked them for the first time. No. A few french DD's tried that, but got Rocke Planed to the bottom of the sea before they could do any meaningfull damage. Depends. I don't know how BBs fare against DDs (my assumption is: "Not too bad"), but against a dedicated CV player it's your best option. Also against cruisers. Massa or Richelieu should do very well against everything the MM throws at you.

I'd say it depends on the numbers you get on the live server. I assume the one time boost (which is several millions on the PTS) will be turned down to a few thousand. The Points per minute though looks fine. If that's the case: Use the dubloon boost as early as possible, as it makes a huge difference of a bonus of ... let's say additional 300 points per minute runs for 20 days or just for 2.
-
So far I didn't encounter any ship that tried to run away after capping. I doubt it'll help the enemy's case as you don't put pressure on the CV. And the less pressure on the CV, the easier it gets for it.

While I have to admit that the Cleveland was one of the more trickier cruiser to take down, down he went in the end. Sure you can spec into full AA and increase your chances against an Enterprise a bit ... but if you meet a BB ... Won't work as the points tick at 5 per 3 seconds. Since the caps are interlocked as soon as your enemy caps one he's able to cap the other as well. Capping also seems to go faster. And by the time the enemy has two caps it's 10 points every three seconds. A BB has no issue whatsoever to tank the time out until the time for his points ticked through. So yeah ... no torps = no yolo rush. No yolo rush = loss.

To be fair: I don't know how other CV's would fare ... I presume less well. Oh and I had a 1v1 against a Saipan as well ... the 10 plane figther squad from the E is an impenetrable wall for Saipan's squads. And regarding MrConway not being sure: He's right in the sense, that BB's were giving me the hardest time in this mode. Even while driving the E.

I'd say it depends on the CV being smart enough to use the islands that are given. I played ring around the rosie with one Massa yesterday ...
-
The best of all the classes. It has the HP, the armour and as Yedwy mentioned the speed to make it difficult for the CV. This was my tally yesterday. Result: - The one loss was against a Richelieu that managed to close the distance and losing only half HP - One Massa and one Monarch managed to close the distance to me as well but died on the last km (as in: I sank them before they sank me while I was being shot at) - Bismarcks, Tirpitzes and Vladivostoks are minced meat (thanks to AP bombs). - A few cruisers managed to cap before dying (even a Cleveland was among the "lucky" ones that were matched against me) - French DD's might come close to actually start shooting you, but ... well ... you don't sink from 20 French DD HE hits - All other DD's I've met usually died before they could reach the cap - About half the players I met on PTS were surprised to see that this game mode is NOT mirrored or were surprised that CV's are NOT excluded
-
Let's put it this way: quite a few enemies earned AA defense expert against me (almost no shoot downs came from fighters). And still I managed to sink all but one. Funny thing is though: The 1v1 grants basically a First Blood for every victory :D
-
Richelieu works also (was my only loss yesterday, couldn't sink the Richelieu fast enough before he closed the distance to my Enterprise). Massa and Bama are tough nuts to crack but doable (I suspect the Riche was also doable and I'm just too bad in a CV). Anything else? Goes down. Sometime swinging, but it goes down. No matter if it's a fast French DD or a AA specced Cleveland ... Result was 13 battles with the Enterprise and only one loss.

Please remain constructive for future threads. And in case of CV, please use the general CV discussion thread. Thread closed.

Genau.
