Some thoughts in the 1st year of this game.

If you want a proper "One Year Anniversary" post, check my recap of my first year. To find on reddit Greetings -
Tarnung (nicht) Nachfüllen - Gefecht überlebt
Allied_Winter replied to XeL__'s topic in Allgemeine Diskussionen
Some thoughts in the 1st year of this game.
Allied_Winter replied to Anthoniusii's topic in General Discussion
I don't know what my personal military history has to do with that, but I feel you wan't to tell me that for you LOGIC == REALISM. Normalization is logical, not that real though. The thing is, as long as any mechanic of this game is explained (either in the wiki of the forums) I don't have a problem with them. Is normalization real? I don't know, I haven't had that much experience with large caliber guns/shells. Is it logical? By the explanation given from WG, yes it is logical, and it helps to balance the game. For me a game can be logical without much realism (LOGIC != REALISM) So logic is to me: Is it explained well --> Is it understandable --> Does it help to improve the game. Normalization does all that. Sure some aspects of the game, could be better explained, but it doesn't the game less logical. Only less realistic ;) Greetings -

One word: Balance! But for the sake of the argument I gave my answers in blue, but honestly: It looks to me as if you are looking for an accurate simulator (like the Silent Hunter series) than an arcade game. Because remember: A simulator tries to be as mechanically/historically accurate as possible, whereas an arcade game, simplifies things so that each class is proper balanced against each other. Just look at the Scharnhorst. She was never meant to fight against stronger ships! She should fight weaker ships, but was fast enough to escape stronger ships. How would you implement that in a game like Warships? You can't runaway forever, there is a map border. So either the Horst would be underpowered against stronger ships (Simulation) or WG had to tweak a few of her stats, so she can match up (Arcade). Greetings -
The last line up with that many BBs I remember was this one (not me there ofc, but the DMG done....sweet). And bonus points for those who find any big changes from a game exactly one year ago! Greetings

Could new proposed economy changes tackle the big problem of non-CAPing DDs (especially at high Tier)?
Allied_Winter replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in Archive
The thing is, if you don't cap and don't spot (usually those two go hand in hand) than your income will take a down fall. Sure we don't know by how much, but it could have an effect on the snipers if they get lower and lower rewards for their playstyle. On the other hand, running away and loosing didn't gave you that much as well, and still lots of players do it. Greetings -

What do you mean with "reliable info"? Datamined values are directly from the client. In this case it's "only" the PTS and we have to see, if these changes make it to the live server. And for the XP income: I think Notser made a video, where he stated, that the overall income stays the same. So, yeah, nerf and so on like you said. Greetings -

Allied_Winter replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in Archive
These tweaks work differently than one might expect. Basically WG had two choices. Two players, one supporting the team and one not. Either you up the rewards for the "good" player while keeping them the same for the "bad" player or, keep the rewards the same for the "good" player and lowere the rewards (=punish) for the "bad" player. WG went for the later. Basically, the overall XP a player can generate throughout a battle has not changed and therefore the XP/Credit ratios are now different for different actions. If you're a supportive (in that case: DD) player before 0.5.12 you'll do well after 0.5.12 because nothing will change for you. If, by any chance however, you're a DD that torps from the edge of the map, you'll suddenly get less XP because you get no spotting XP. I don't know how much less credits one will get for not executing proper teamplay (spotting, capping). Greetings -
As the economy seems to be the issue for quite some players you'll find a few more threads on the first three or four pages regarding: "Repair Cost", "High tier economy", ... Greetings
-
They wanted to "change" economy probably through the loot boxes. If this is not sufficient enough, the rethink lowering the repair costs. The lootboxes I assume are maybe two or three patches away... But take a look in the other repair cost / economy threads on page one ;) Greetings

Sorry for jumping in here: WG stated, that during the period of reduced repair cost at higher tiers (Iirc May 1st up to July 31st) they noticed only a very little increase in playernumbers and battles played at higher tiers. This leads to either of two conclusions: 1. Repair costs were still to high OR 2. Something else must be the problem(s) As for point 1. WG did reduce the repair costs on other servers as well. And while it was sth 25% on the EU servers it was up to 40% on the NA/RU server. And even that didn't brought any increase in players and battles with it, soooo ... WG used repair cost reduction. It was not very effective. We can rule that one out. As for point 2.: There are probably more than one problem to fix the sometimes very stale gameplay on higher tiers, but the repair costs are not the problem. In addition to that: I (and apparently a few others) can have fun at T10: By simply not caring about the econmy and play. Someone over at reddit attested me a "gambling attitude". Basically, whenever I start up my Zao, I accept (before pressing the battle button) that I will loose 400k credits. And how happy I am after the battle when I see I lost only 100k or even made a small profit. Usually over on evening of T10s I manage to get even on credits. WGs approach appears to be different: If you have two workers, one working real hard (read as: Carring the game) and one does nothing all day (read as: sniping, torping from 20km away), and a consultant points out that both workers earn the same, you get two options: Either increase the salary of the hard working guy, while keeping the salary of the lazy guy as it is. Or, keep the salary of the hard working guy, but cut down lazy guys salary. In WGs case, they opted for punishing the lazy guy / bad play. So if you carried your team hard before those changes and did well on XP and credits, you'll still do so after those changes. And if you screwed around and got some XP and credits before those changes, you'll get less after those changes go live. And one last word for fun: If you don't have fun with a ship, don't play it. If you have fun in a ship play it. I know I can only speak for myself, but my fun in the Zao isn't bound to any economy. Greetings

Now I know why the German BB line is so popular - 4 Nassau matches - 15 kills with a 7 Kill Kraken!
Allied_Winter replied to IanH755's topic in General Discussion
My Katori felt your AP! Although you felt her/my fire breath Was a nice game, and I myself still haven't tried out the German BBs, but I intend to keep the Nassau. Greetings -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Allied_Winter replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Met IanH755 in his Nassau, while a friend and I wen't for low tier HE spamming in our Katoris. Was a close game and the enemies (including IAN) were quite on fire. Sory for that mate. Greetings -
15-point captain options for Gneisenau/Scharnhorst/Bismarck
Allied_Winter replied to Nargoth73's topic in General Discussion
I will go for two captains: My first captain will grind through the German BBs (don't know how to set him finally up, but for now BS, EM, Vigilance, pending), the second will stay on the Nassau (or later KA if she becomes avaliable) and will get (BFT, EM, Vigilance, AFT, Manual Secondaries). I'll see how that turns out. Greetings -
I think (just my very very subjective) observation, that Dets happen a bit more over the last two or three months compared to before. Last happened to me yesterday in my Ognevoi. Nonetheless, I don't mind them being in game. If WG would just add some bigger/nastier explosions to them. Greetings

From Reddit: "New Orleans" armour scheme is wrong...

Repair Cost and Smoke Duration charts

I know this thread is kinda old, but any chance we can get it updated with the newly added german BBs? Or should I ask THD in the german sub first? Greetings -
Hello there, let me quick explain it to you! You have multiple costs per battle: Repair Cost - Determines to a great extend how expensive a ship is. - Consists not only from repairs but also a "service-fee" or "fuel-fee" or "pay-for-sailors" - Can be "0". But only for T4 and below. - From T5 on, even if you take no damage at all, you have to pay said service fee (Example: My undamaged Zao would still have 35000cr of repair cost) - Link to table for repair costs (including also the min. repair costs = service fee) Ammunition Cost - The more you shoot the more expensive it gets. - Ranging from 7credits/shell up to 400cr/shell - Ranging from 40cr/torp up to 1200cr/torp - Ranging from 140cr/plane up to 1700cr/plane (CAUTION! Per plane --> A squad consists of four or six planes. Go figure) Consumables Cost - 22500cr/consumable As for team damage: This is intentionally lower than your repair cost, to prevent abuse. How could such systems be abused? I'm low on health in my Zao, friendly Geraing launches torps a few m behind me. I drive into said torps to cover my repair cost! I know this may be a rare case, but enough for WG to set up the system the way it is. Greetings

About those new IJN DDs and changes to current IJN DDs
Allied_Winter replied to KapteinSabeltann's topic in Destroyers
Maybe wait a bit up before the new DDs hit the PTS for example? Up to now we have either unconfirmed leaks what'll happen or some guesstimation from former World of Tanks split ups. And due to the fact that all this information is allready in the other threads (hint look in the Destroyer subforum), I vote for close! Greetings- 6 replies
