    IFHE Conspiracy Theory

The thing about the addition of the IFHE bonus on flat or decimal numbers I'm still not sure, but you pointed rightfully out, that the instances usually match. I've yet to found a case where the addition of IFHE on a flat integer would yield a different penetration than applying IFHE on the deciaml. E.g. 32.4 (from integer) vs. 32.78888 (from decimal). Greetings

    Why another cruiser line?

Hmm... depends. I do find my cruisers fun to play! They require a different mindset though. Replace the word soldier with cruisera and we're there: Suret thats a bit .... dark, but eh. In regards to the tasks: I partially agree. Sure I'll spec my Baltimore for AA - but with the little CV population it's mostly useless. The DD screen however depends on which cruiser you drive and which DD you shoot at. Greetings

    Why another cruiser line?

And that's why I try to stick to my cruisers as long as I can pull my weight. Greetings

    Why another cruiser line?

1: Look here: http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/31444-some-interesting-info-from-ru/page__st__4640__pid__1568520#entry1568520 That's a QnA with one of the developers from last December. Check the second question 2. Russian based developer and Russian community ... 3. True that. Apparently WG goes with the approach: More nations before more 'fleshed out' cruisers of a single nation. Normal penetration damage on DDs

If you're interested here's the answer by Sub_Octavian in regards to AP on DDs: Question: I've been playing DDs a lot lately and I saw lots of instances where battleship AP shells did excessive damage to my ships. Shouldn't battleship AP shells be limited to overpen damage only versus DDs, so battleship captains have to make a conscious decision what ammunition to use against which target?Answer: Not every large caliber should have overpens on soft targets at any angle, and this is fine. We'd rather not simplify this aspect of gameplay. SOURCE Greetings

  8. Already in the news thread (in my BIG QnA transcript) ;) Greetings
  9. Since I transcripted a few more Questions and Answers off of reddit, I thought this needs attention: Base XP and Damage over all regular (=non premium) DDs at T8: Greetings

Greetings
  11. Thanks for the clarification, and also glad that you drop by in the EU forum from time to time! In regards to the current reddit QnA: I assume you're still answering questions, so I'll delay my promised readers digest. Greetings

    IFHE Conspiracy Theory

Fair enough. I simply expect more from an offical WG CC! They should deliver a precise analysis about the game mechanics. If they can't (which is perfectly ok), they should state so. That they are just trying stuff out they may or may not work out. Both didn't happen in this video. Thus he'll get flagged from me. Greetings

    IFHE Conspiracy Theory

Wait? What? The chart says clearly that without IFHE you penetrate only 24mm armour (or less). With IFHE this goes up to 32mm (or less). The problem is though, that a simple Yes/No chart is difficult since it also depends on what you're shooting at. Basically you can calculate it yourself and check ingame the opponents you'll meet. Yay and neigh: Sure he says he 'feels' or 'thinks' but the way he explains HE (angle dependent) or IFHE is just plain wrong. And he presents all that information as if it were a fact. Basically he contributes the consistency in DMG in this shown battle mostly to IFHE which is - not wrong - but very misleading. Sure IFHE gave a benefit against the deck armour of the Bama. But he should've at least pointed out, that the target he shot at (Bama) worked for IFHE. If he had shot at a Yamato or Bismarck the effect would be 0! I nowhere stated this build sucks. I only stated that the effect IFHE has on 203s is very miniscule and very target dependent. This wont change if he (as announced) tests IFHE on a 'hell of a lot' of cruisers. The result IFHE gives is known. Thanks to the HE penetration formula and the armour values we can check. Any performance gains Notser expects on 203 guns are 10% IFHE (if he can shoot at the decks of USN T8+ BBs) and 90% confirmation bias (since he feels more comfortable having that skill equipped). And sure he can freely do this since he has a press account. But 'tricking' F2P players into respeccing their captains because of 90% confirmation bias is a No Go. Especially for a CC that has somehow the task of informing the playerbase correctly. So bottom line: Yes he said it was his impression and yes he can do so if he wants, but throughout this video I missed the information that the actual real benefit of IFHE in 203 cruisers is miniscule and that he will use this skill despite this little benefit. ThePurpleSmurf, on 11 April 2017 - 06:09 PM, said: Somehow are both, IFHE and AFT obsolete and pretty much useless in the current meta. The times are over where the Des Moines was *the* fleet AA protection. There are rarely CVs in TX games, NA and EU. And even there is a CV game, there are now german BBs with good AA, there are RN with insane AA, most other cruisers have very good AA. AFT is just not worth using it anymore for these rare 1/10 or 1/15 if-cases anymore. IMO people are better off by dropping AFT and using another 3-point plus a 1-point skill or two 2-point skills (build example). But this is only my personal opinion. Was thinking the same. Currently (if you don't fear CVs) you can skip AFT and IFHE and go for something different. I will stay at AFT and whoever wants can stay at IFHE orwhatever the player thinks benefits his playstyle the most. Greetings

    IFHE Conspiracy Theory

Sure in the end it comes down to personal flavour. Nothing wrong with skilling IFHE or AFT on a DM based on ones personal preferences. BUT the effect IFHE has (against surface targets) compared to the effect AFT has (against air targets) is - undeniable - very very minor. AFT is usless if no CV is present. But if - and he comes near your DM - than somethin is happening. But IFHE? Yields only very little benefit against T8+ USN BBs. Sure they are more present than CVs but still. And that's where my problem lies with Notsers video: He didn't point out that the gain (203s with IFHE) is so very little! He may use it all he want, but please tell people/viewers that the benefit they gain is close to negligible. Greetings

    IFHE Conspiracy Theory

But then he should add the he doesn't exactly know. Nothing wrong with playing a build that suits you best. But portraying it (and even conducted tests), as if it has a real benefit leads exactly to such threads. I (personally) expected more of a well known CC. Greetings

    IFHE Conspiracy Theory

Basically every 152mm cruiser (or gun) benefits extremely from IFHE since those guns jump two "thresholds". Without IFHE they can only penetrate 19mm (every armour of 24mm and below). With IFHE they can penetrate 25mm and 32mm (every armour of 32mm and below). Since most BBs have 25 or 32mm front/aft armour they can now be targeted without shattering. Greetings

    IFHE Conspiracy Theory

Thanks for the compliment. Carefull! The caliber/4 HE penetration works only for KM BBs (and their secondaries) and the Graf Spee (since she shares her guns with the Scharnhorst). So KM cruisers adhere to the 1/6th rule! Great for Königsberg and Nürnber. Not so great for higher tier KM cruisers. Greetings

    IFHE Conspiracy Theory

Well let's do the math shall we? Regular USN HE penetrtation is 1/6th of its caliber --> 203/6 = 33,83333mm. If we round this to the next integer we get 34mm meaning that the USN 203mm HE shells can penetrate every armour up to (and including) 33mm thickness. The impact angle doesn't matter for HE (that's where Notser is wrong). If we use IFHE the number increases: 33,8333 * 1,3 = 43,98333mm. Rounded to the next integer we get 44mm, meaning that we can penetrate every armour up to (and including) 43mm thickness. What IFHE does NOT is increase the DMG upon penetration. It increases only it's values of penetrating a certain armour thickness. So if you check the game and find a lot of armoured things with 34mm to 43mm at T8, T9, T10. Then IFHE might be viable. Afaik there are no (or only very little) armour thicknesses present in the game at the requiered thickness. Greetings
  21. Haven't played her since (due to RL time restrictions) but what I saw from streamers confirms my suspicion: Still stronk ship! Sure you'll have to work the rudder more, but that you should be used from previous IJN / other nation cruisers. Greetings

Some interesting info around the world

QnA with Sub on reddit. As per last time I try to do a readers digest of the Questions and answers.
  23. Quick run down of what I discovered so far: IJN - The consistent one: From T5 onward you know what you get from each cruiser with the exception of the 155 Mogami. Each new tier is a steady improvement and all boils down to being a XXXXXL Furutaka or a XXXXS Zao. This slow progression can be seen as unfun due to little diversity though. All have great HE (alpha + firechance) and a more or less situational AP (203 shells with the exception of Zao are a bit floaty). Stealth is great, they are fairly tanky and if you manage to use the torps properly have a nice back up surprise for your enemies USN - The unloved one: Thanks to the slow shell arcs and the missing torpedos this line has seen little love since the release of other cruiser lines. Wrongfully so! USN AP is still great in regards to normalization (only second to the RN cruisers). Your repuation of being a plane shredder precedes you so CVs - if present - try to stay away from you. Their tankiness varies greatly (Omaha = floating citadel, Cleveland = fairly tanky, Pensacola = floating citadel, New Orleans and up = okish if angled well). I personally like USN radar more since its duration is longer. VMF (RU) - The fun one (at least to me): I found low tiers a bit odd but not bad. But from Budyonny on up to Chapayev they're a blast to play. Like scaled up versions of a Kiev. But with a citadel. They are easier to spot than USN, IJN and RN and less meneuverable but have the speed, the range and the accuracy to keep their opponents at arms length. I'll never forget my first witherer in a T6 (!) cruiser whilst BBQ 4 BBs in my Budyonny, zipping over the battlefield and dodging salvo after salvo. They are less tanky than other cruisers and due to their large turning circle requiere more map awareness. The torpedos are suicide or self defens only KM (GER) - The (supposed to be) Jack of all trades: Same with the russian cruisers the fun starts in mid tier. Köngisberg is great and only a bit shafted by the current T5/T6 MM. Nürnberg is a floating citadel which everybody knows about and seen as a free XP DMG pinata but from the Yorck on, they get really tanky (for cruisers). Their AP is great like USN (or RN) but requieres the target to present you a flat broadside. If you use the hydro you're great for pushing smokes (although your lack of concealment negates that a bit). HE is subpar, but with enough shells in the air, some of it might result in fires. The torpedos are suicide or self defens only RN - The odd one: When the RN came out everybody asked what this line is supposed to be good at. Looks like DMG farming. The AP is nice although highly dependent on the angle you hit the target. They are ultra squishy but they come with a nice heal (T3 and up) and have a great concealment (even lower than IJN). Torpedos are more usefull than on other nations cruisers due to better torp angles (vs. IJN) and longer range (vs. RU/GER). The Smoke is nice, but requieres you to plan ahead (where to lay smoke, safe of incoming torpedos, what's my exit route once the smoke fades). Hope that helps. Greetings
