Final Poll: How many UK DD missions did you get?
Allied_Winter replied to ColonelPete's topic in General Discussion
I got it in this order: Icarus - Acasta - Jervis - Lightning -

Final Poll: How many UK DD missions did you get?
Allied_Winter replied to ColonelPete's topic in General Discussion
From the earnable containers I got all four missions. I bought one container with no mission (by that time it would've been possible for me to still get one mission from it). -

Such dir zwei davon aus. Kleiner Tipp Qualität bringt uns beim Kunden kein Geld!"

Interaction of large-caliber AP shells with DDs
Allied_Winter replied to Episparh's topic in General Discussion
Kinda. It's the internet. Sure everybody should try to be as friendly as they can, but as pointed out in my earlier posts: Even the friendliest people can lose their temper when pressed. And to keep in mind: Your first post in this thread crossed all the points on a post that isn't interested in a civilised discussion. Hence the sarcastic remarks. Sure our discussion turned out differently (thank you for that), but most participants that come here to whine either immediately leave again or taunt the forumites. Thus: Sarcasm. Some do. Some don't. Some play an inbetween role. Overall there's ships (even within a class) that play very differently (e.g. check out the differences between the Russian DD Khabarovsk and the IJN DD Shimakaze). And sometimes the game changes forces everybody to change their playstyle. Such is the life of a MMO. If for example a new line is added to the game, all existing lines/playstyles are on the brink of changing. Some get away without changing, some have to change heavily. Take a look at the most recent: USN light cruisers with tons of radar. Making it very difficult for DDs to keep the playstyle from before the USN light cruisers were released. Which brings me to my last point about good players: A good player is somebody that can adapt to all changes the game brings up. Bad players try to brute force their playstyle even when the game punishes now their 'old' playstyle. Which is sad, since overall, in a 12 v 12: Shouldn't one play as a team player? No matter if you are on voice com with a division or simply entering random queue on your own? There's a reason why the term: 'Teamwork is OverPowered' became quite the meme. As soon as random players work together, victory can be easier achieved than when everybody is lone wolfing. Fair enough. If you found your way to happiness in this game, kudos. But keep in mind, your team mates may depend on your actions. And I'd say it's not noble to have fun on others expenses. True. Just look at some famous streamers that get hunted by the enemy team to the map border, while the streamers team can cap peacefully. Again: A good player won't hunt ships to the map border. Just chase them far enough away that they are out of battle for a few minutes. I'd disagree here. I consider myself a devoted player, yet play on all levels. A clan mate of mine only plays T6 and T7 as he enjoys the game there more. Choices for everyone. Not really. I never played WoT, but know from friends that do, that in Warships it's way easier to contribute in a meaningful way even when you're bottom tier. Sure you have to change your playstyle compare to when you're on the top. But in danger of repeating myself: When a battle changes, adapt! Ehhh ... no. A few things here: 1. It is no exploit if a mechanic is available for everyone. I once met a player that refused to use captain skills because (his words): "They create an imbalance and it should only come down to the players skill" Not long before he went on complaining that players that DO use captain skills on their ship, exploit the gameplay. Sorry but that is a non argument. Just because you don't want to use certain mechanics, doesn't mean others exploit gameplay. That's one of the reasons why I try out every PTS and read every patch note. To be up do date with what is happening in a game I care about. I understand that not everybody is willing or has the time to be up to date (different priorities in life). Absolutely no problem for me. What IS a problem for me is then, if such players go on about what needs to be changed in the game mechanics or - in your case - how DDs are the best of the best, when this is simply not true. DDs have strengths and weaknesses. Just like cruisers and BBs do. 2. The game never claimed to be realistic. The degree to how much it is semi realistic is certainly debatable, but imho brings us nowhere. Maybe the game gets more arcady. But again: To me that is a very subjective discussion. Keep in mind what the games overall target group is: Players that are somewhat interested in naval battles and can afford to play one or two hours a week. The casuals. That's the target group for WG. And such a casual gaming target group requires you to make things easily accessible. Choose ship, press 'Battle' and go. Sure there's more to it, but while you can lead a horse to the water ... Or to put it the other way round: Where to draw the line on realism? I mean, BBs had a hit ratio in WWI of roughly 3-5%. In WWII it went up to iirc 13% (testing with the Nagato). So less stuff to hit. On top of that: Surface ships reduced to be AA screen for the CVs. It would be a completely different game. Again: Game balance beats realism. And destroyers are projected to be the counter class for battleships in this game. So a 1v1 DD vs. BB should - in theory - be always won by the DD. Ofcourse such a 1v1 occurs rarely in game and doesn't take the skill level of both participants into account. Decent gameplay is again something subjective. I prefer balanced gameplay over everything else. I don't care about Anime camos or strange consumables. As long as it's balanced it can stay in the gmae. Glad I was able to help. -
Royal Navy event craps on casual players
Allied_Winter replied to Bartleby_Badger's topic in General Discussion
Not really. Some items are - through this mission system - locked behind a paywall. But that doesn't prevent you from completing (as in: getting the final reward) of this mission. However if you want to complete (as in: doing 100% of the available missions) then yes, you have a problem without paying money. But that is not p2w. Just a way for the devs to generate revenue. -

Neues Matchmaking +1 alles richtig gemacht oder ?
Allied_Winter replied to Drake847's topic in Allgemeine Diskussionen
Interaction of large-caliber AP shells with DDs
Allied_Winter replied to Episparh's topic in General Discussion
Thank you, I hope I can help further. Leaving aside the 'always the same tactic': You do know that within your dispersion ellipse your shells are distributed randomly? So it is not uncommon to delete a ship on one day with one salvo and then having the same circumstances one battle later and missing every salvo on target. The Random Number Generator (RNG) that is responsible for this is a fickle god. But if you want advise, maybe you can share a replay so that I can take a look on it. Maybe I spot something that you could've done differently. Yes there are DDs out there that excel at spamming HE. However I find them to be annoying at best. With all due respect but this is simply not true. But to me this clears up a few points. 1. Please read up or watch a few videos on how the visibilty and detection mechanics work in World of Warships. You seem to be lacking quite a bit of game mechanic knowledge. Why do I think that? Because you said: 'Their invisiblity a recent invention'. Which is simply not true. The basic visbility mechanic hasn't changed in quite a long time. If you found something suspicious (maybe a bug), please share a replay so we all have a chance to check that. 2. Neither the guns on BBs nor the visibilty mechanics have changed! How do I know? Because I've read every patch note and every official source on that matter. And nothing in there indicates even remotely what you're describing. On top of that: My observations of the game are in line with what the patch notes desrcibe. 3. DDs NEED to rely on their stealth. They don't have the hitpoints nor the armour to sustain in a BB engagement. DDs would be unfun to play and basically unbalanced/broken if they were as easily spotted as BBs (or at least easier spotted than they are now). They can't fight out in the open. And to be more precise: They were never thought of WG to fight out in the open. However: Good players in this game have shown that it is doable to counter an unspotted DD. At least long enough to either survive or have your team help you. Take note: I'm not denying your observations you made in the game. I'm criticising the conclusions you draw from said observations. Judging from the number of battles you played (displayed under your account name here in the forums), you have roughly 1000 battles more than I do. I started with the game in Open Beta Testing (so August 2015) and have witnessed (just like you) a number of changes. Neither of these changes made DDs the - as you claimed it - best of the best. A nearly unbeatable class. That is simply not true. The question is: If we have a similar battle count and a similar time in the game, why are your observations so different from mine. That's what I'm trying to find out. Two things: 1. Why not join a clan or play in division. It's much more fun to have like minded people that you can play with. It's a rush if your division manages to pull a victory from the jaws of defeat and if you lose, at least you know that your two division members did their best. 2. Playing a large number of battles doesn't necessarilly translate into knowledge about the game mechanics. Why is that? Because the game provides very little opportunity in game to teach players about the different game mechanics. Sure it got better over time and it's not as bad as it used to be, but it's still far away from what I consider a good ingame tutorial system. So it requires the player to be curious enough to search for learning opportunities outside of the game. And this is flawed. I see many players with a high number of battles that still make rookie mistakes. Since we're talking about BBs and DDs let me give you one example for each of what I think (and the majority of good players will probably agree here) is a rookie mistake. BB rookie mistake: Getting spotted but continue to sail in a straight line. This is the prime example of why some BB only players think DDs are too strong. They are spotted by something but don't spot anything in return. To a good player that's the indication that something is in the vinicinty. A quick look on the team list would reveal that it's an enemy torpedo boat and the good player would start changing their course randomly. However a rookie BB mistake is to continue in a straight line, making it easy for the DD to land torpedos on said BB. DD rookie mistake: Entering a cap zone and immediately smoke up to sit in their own smoke. Good DD captains know, that they are the eyes of their team. A DD sitting in smoke can't spot/scout for his team. Thus the team is left blind of any incoming enemy attacks. At the same time: Every good DD player knows that there are still enough bad DD players out there that keep sitting in their smoke, so they throw torps into the torp and - to nobody's surprise - land a hit or even sink the DD. Putting the team that lost the DD at a disadvantage. Now since we're talking about rookies and good players, we need to define what is a good player: In my eyes, a good player is a player that knows the strengths and weaknesses of his ship and of the ships surrounding him. He's usually a player that has played on all tiers, all classes and is reasonably successfull (high win rate across the board, reasonable damage output). But also is constantely checking himself if he could do better. That does NOT mean that this player has no fun. It's just that fun is not something that can be universally defined. I mean... to some players it's fun to sink their own team mates. True. Complex topics generate however a lot of different responses. I for example don't think that this change will create the sky falling as others claim. Some others - which I assume you are part of too - are very concerned and cautious about the discussed changes. The thing is: We can only voice our concerns (or in my case my positive reactions) for the discussed change for now. IF WG wants to forward this change to the Test server, then we can discuss more about it. So if you want your concerns to be heared more, take part in the test server and leave your feedback. And overall: It's ok to disagree on topics (e.g. the outcome of this change). No skill level gives a forumite the rights to look down on others. Absolutely true. But being a skilled player gives those players a better insight on what the game mechanics can and should do. And if a new/inexperienced player suggests something that doesn't fit the game mechanics (e.g give BBs a better dispersion), these players will tell why that is a bad idea. On the other hand: It should be clear, that telling someone, that his idea about something is bad is NOT abuse. The sarcasm that comes up every now and then ... well ... sure it's not the nicest form of responding, but see it from their perspective. Day in, day out you have players that come to the forum, spouting nonsense ('My favourite ship got nerfed! REFUND!') and many reasonable forumites respond with in a well manner. This is met with mockery or ignorance. Both attributes that don't bode well in any forum. So, to troll the troll so to speak, sarcasm is the way to go. Look at it this way: Have you ever worked in hotline support? Quite often you have support calls that ask for the basic of basic stuff (e.g. "My computer screen is black, make something to make it work again!"). Questions that display immediately that the caller doesn't want to help solve the problem but is only looking for a scapegoat. With a few hundered calls of this nature a day, any support worker can lose his temper every once in a while. However: Support workers are sometimes trained to defuse difficult situations with difficult customers. The average forumite probably is not. Or in other words: I've NEVER seen sarcasm pop up in a post from a new forum member that was well mannered and didn't throw around accusations of hacks. No offense taken! Oh and one last thing: Since I'm not a native English speaker: What does the term 'take a mickey' mean? -

Interaction of large-caliber AP shells with DDs
Allied_Winter replied to Episparh's topic in General Discussion
A senior membe as in those fellas that have been telling you that e.g. DDs are not the best of the best. Sure that may be your personal observation (which I'm not discrediting here!), but it's also not what the statistics of the game resemble. True. I've read those concerns. Unfortunately: Unless at least the Public Test Server is accessible for us players, there's little more than to speculate about what might come. When the PTS goes live and we can test the proposed changes, then we can draw more conclusions. Until then, from my experience with the game, no the sky is not falling down on BB players if BBs get a small, but long deserved, nerf. Maybe. But maybe this is the right place. Mostly because the concerns you voiced (thank you for that) show me, that you have the impression that DDs are some magical OP ship class that can delete everything. Which is mostly wrong. HOWEVER: Most DDs can only be a nightmare for the enemy, if the enemy plays into their hands. If the enemy plays his cards well, then DDs are a nuissance. At best. As said in my post above: I do play BBs on all tiers. I have rarely a problem with DDs farming me with HE or torps. Which sets up two different observations: You saying DDs are the best of the best and me denying that. Both through personal observation. However quite a few other forumites here (or in the game) share my view on the topic. And then I want to just understand what makes you think that your observation is ... so different from those who have equal or more experience than you. Would it be so hard to accept that other players, that don't share your view simply have a better understanding of the game and it's statistics and mechanics? I did. As I do with almost ALL World of Warships related topics (here and on other official sources). But most concerns show a distinct lack of understanding of game. Now my last question in this post: Why should I take someones concerns seriously if that person doesn't understand what he/she is talking about? -
I rarely get somewhat 'emotional' (for lack of a better term) with such topics, but that's a very pitiful situation. What was the meme like? Sure the CV rework takes up lots of resources, but the last definite information on the topic is now over four months old. In the mean time there was quite a lot more going on than just the CV rework. So the card "Development is overworked" doesn't play here. Unless: The priority for the collectors club - a club aimed at (former) loyal players - has about the same low priority as some minor UI QoL improvements (e.g. dismount all signal flags at once). Sorry but what Lesta is delivering here is bollocks. Announcing something - that, mind you, got reintroduced to another server in the meantime - and then letting it dry out for several months has about the same consistency as a certain airport in Germany.

Interaction of large-caliber AP shells with DDs
Allied_Winter replied to Episparh's topic in General Discussion
Well then.... in an attempt to help and assist. Let me first identify where your problem lies: What makes you think that DDs are the best of the best AND when a senior member of this community tells you that this'd be not the case why not believe them? -

If you think so. I can play my BBs quite successfully upfront near the caps. I have fun AND I win. So... two birds with one stone.
