matchmaker Matchmaking in der Kritik
Allied_Winter replied to Frighty1975's topic in Allgemeine Diskussionen
Dito.

Skill-related matchmaking for more balanced games

I was not asking how you'd setup the neural network or machine learning (which is actually quite simple: Let players vote before and after a battle and put the difference in satisfaction into an optimization algorirthm). No, my question was: WHAT is your factor that would distinguish a good from a bad player? Also: I highly suggest that you read the link El2aZeR posted. Quite Eye-opening to say the least -
Skill-related matchmaking for more balanced games

Excellent. HOW is determined if a team has a good probability to win or not? Would you use some sort of personal rating? And if so how'd you derive such a personal rating from players? How would you combat the problem that a player can help his team secure the win by doing things that can't be measured in numbers? How would you make sure that such a system is failsafe (because if you can abuse the system to intentionally get 'weaker' opponents that'd be something nobody wants! Also: Care to answer me, why you think skillbased MM would work, if it failed at MMO's that are similar in their setup to Warships? -
Skill-related matchmaking for more balanced games
Allied_Winter replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
That is correct. ELO was primarily created for a 1v1 system. But not only is this a team game (yeah there are some n v. n sytems out there), but none of these has in addition to the team aspect a tier aspect. That's what'd make it complicated for warships to say the least. Plus: If Skillbased MM would work/is wanted, why come games like AW failed so hard due to the SBMM shortcomings? IF that is true, which number would that be? Seems like you know half of reddit better than they know themselves? So ... (X) Doubt That is all fair and dandy. Your game, your choice. If I want a challenge I dive into clan battles myself. But I get too exhausted, too quickly as that I'd enjoy more than just a few battles a week or so. Again: Fair and dandy, your opinion. But in the end: Skillbased MM won't work and so far I can only thank the devs, that RANDOM games remain RANDOM -

Skill-related matchmaking for more balanced games

1. That is a false assumption. Just because you have good and bad players spread out equally does not mean it becomes more organized 2. Why would I want to PERMANENTLY play against players of my skill level? 3. I like winning. Any MM where I'd win less than I do now is a step backwards from my perspective. So in short: Not only creates any form of skill based MM more problems in the long run than it solves in the short run, it's also against my personal idea of having fun... -
Sure a 1v1 fight against them IS probably lethal for the Huanghe! Luckily: This is (supposed to be) a team game. So you're not forced to immediately go for the 1v1

Fun is subjective and I doubt that games would be fair(er) (by what standard?) in a +/-1 MM. What the devs said recently that +/-1 MM would cause a lot of problems at T10. Debatable. I like it. But ... again, that's subjective. Maybe. I'd say make sure that every other game a player is allowed to be top tier and that'd be sufficient imho.

re-balance of legendary modules (and adding new ones)?

That knows about the value of concealment which is unfortunately a minority of the playerbase. -

Klar.

Then think again. WG just recently reaffirmed that a +/-1 MM is a no go as it'd harm the game more than it would benefit it. So yeah... that's that.

Bestimmt. -

Which would in turn increase wait times for the good players if you limit the numbers ... Yet again punishing players that are good at the game by gimping them one way or the other.... Not a good solution. And OP still hasn't delivered on why he thinks a) Loopsided matches can be concluded from the match up alone and b) how he'd think that anything would change if you balance by arbitrary numbers. -

And that swapping out works ONLY if you work within the same ship tiers. So exchanging a T8 cruiser for a T8 cruiser. But that yields the danger of changing nothing. So, and what do you think should then happen? Void the mirroring in a match? Also: By what measure you want to change players? And how do you think "lopsidedness" could be detected? -

Skill-related matchmaking for more balanced games
Allied_Winter replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
I get that. You grab 24 players from the MM queue and then try to figure out how to 'assemble' these ships/players that it'll fit a 'more equal' (equal in terms of what) line up. But what if the players that are switched sit not in equal ships? E.g. that you can't exchange a T8 cruiser (with a good player in it) with another T8 cruiser (with a bad player in it)? In that case the MM would either have to accept non mirrored ship tier matchups or (which is my assumption how your suggestion could do it): Reach back into the MM queue and grab better suited ships/players. So, while just assembling the picked players wouldn't increase their waiting time in queue, it'd definitely increase the waiting time before the battle would be assmebled. And if MM has to grab back for some other players ... well go figure about the waiting time. Despite all that: We still haven't discussed by WHAT measure players should be 'judged' from the MM to go in either team A or team B to create a match up that would guarantee (!) to create less loopsided matches. Not really possible imho. Interesting. Trying to bring up a constructive discussion is now considered whining? Accept it: Skillbased MM in any way or form has no place in this game. It will not reduce loopsided matches or create a more 'balanced' (whatever that means) matchup. Random matches are random. Don't like that? Play something else maybe?
