DD roles vs actual incentive todo those roles
Camperdown replied to UncappingBadger's topic in General Discussion
I always check the opposition before game start. CVs, radar and detection range of enemy DDs. Only with CV and multiple radars will I hold back. Favourite trick: rush to cap, get in and make my distance to the far side of cap just beyond my detection range. If my cap gets blocked, I know enemy DD is close. Spot and let team blap him -

I guess you have never experienced bunches of BBs staying back all game long in weekends -

Yeah being big, dumb and boring is a great way to play the game -

Yep he got a win this time, but just as likely you have a noob team and you lose despite your best efforts. -

As a DD doing your job (spotting, capping, attacking enemy DDs, torping) I find you are under awarded for your efforts. BaBBies hanging back, farming damage and generally doing nothing for the team get far better results. Great incentive structure Typically for a good DD game where I cap 1 or 2 times, constantly spot and push the enemy, attack enemy DDs multiple times and sink one and put a few torps into BBs I get 35k damage and meh rewards. Of course I get all the enemy attention every time I open fire and get spotted and CVs give me flattering attention, so in a quarter of the games I get blapped before half time. I think DDs should get better rewards for good game play and the risks that entails -
I have to say I had some awful teams this weekend too. Sure, I am just an average player but level of play from many teammates at TIX or TX was awful.

Playing for fun / Frustration... The core issue with the game?
Camperdown replied to DFens_666's topic in General Discussion
Same here. I quit WoWs for a year because I found the daily grind frustrating. Am playing for fun and results now, choosing a few goals in terms of rewards I want to go for and enjoy the game. There is a bit too much frustrated complaining going on on this forum. Sure some things suck, but overall its still a very good game. I have mentally adjusted to the fact that 25% of the teams you play with suck too much and you will work hard without much help from your team and lose. Tough, deal with it. The other 75% I am having a lot of fun. I wish y'all the same. -
Thanks for your help. So it's gonna be Japanese, US, French and UK. Now first git gud on babbies

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

looks like he commited suicide...how?

I believe that if you are a repeat offender doing damage to teammates the game blows you up. I have seen that happen once. -
Excessive citadel damage for cruiser the cause of bad game dynamic?
Camperdown posted a topic in General Discussion
There have been long discussions about the lame level of play on this forum. Having tried to make Neptune work with radar, I submit the following. The glass jaw of cruisers makes it too dangerous for them to play their proper role in opposing DDs. As soon as you show yourself one bit you are targeted by every BB and CA in the game and you will killed by cits in an instant. As a result most cruisers hide behind islands, BBs camp for fear of torps and the game becomes as static as the trenches in WWI. My proposal: reduce the cit damage on cruisers so they can fight again. What do y'all say? -

Playing WoWs when you are tired, or I should have seen that coming
Camperdown posted a topic in General Discussion
Do you know that feeling, at the end of a long day, let's play a battle or two to relax. Dead in 3 minutes. I am a DD main, like offensive play. Seems my IQ drops 30 points when I am tired. Makes you wonder about commanders in war, convoy duty in the Arctic, utterly exhausted .... -
A year ago I stopped playing WoWs. The grind was boring me and it just wasn't fun any more. Two months ago I returned and I maximised the fun, not the grind. So, I started focusing on the joy of playing, not progressing through the ranks or farming damage. Having played WoWs for a while again and reading this forum (which I discovered a month ago) I wish to share a few observations with you. WoWs is a commercial game which a couple of Russians farm for cash. We can be sore about that, but, hey: WoWs is a fantastic game with a great variety of ships and gameplay where every sailor can find something to his liking if he does not get too greedy about loot and rewards Yeah, the Ruskies farm cash, but hey, developing a good came costs money and they need to earn a living. Better they are off the streets this way rather than they are hacking into democratic elections our side of the fence The quality of gameplay often sucks, which is a major bummer. We like to whine about that. But if you don't care too much about in-game rewards, you can do your own satisfactory play lots of times. Lot's of campers and noobs often means you cannot play your favourite style some of the times. If you do, you are often let down by your team of find yourself facing half the enemy team solo. That sucks. BUT! If you play your own game to have fun, I find WoWs a great game. Yeah, some battles are very frustrating and many noobs suck bigtime. But what if we forget about our PR and winrate and just play for fun (full disclosure I am at 1100 and 50% ). We may die a bit more and maybe farm a bit less damage but we would have much more fun. In fact, the whole game would improve as an experience as well. So, I vote not YOLO, but YOLT: You Only Live Twice. Dying a few times in this game is not going to kill us! And if we take ourselves a bit less seriously we may also get less worked up about OP Smolsk and balanced ships and noobs doing stupid stuff. Have a great game, captains! Edited for incorrect PR

Thanks, exactly what I was trying to say

And how would you know that? I play to win but do not get worked up too much about it. You sound a bit too judgemental about people you know nothing about except some stats and a cheerful attitude. Lighten up captain

So long and thanks for all the fish.

Why are BBs hanging back and how to fix that?
Camperdown replied to 66Schwifty's topic in General Discussion
I think the solution is to nerf accuracy at long range. Lower hit rate at > 15 K by 50% or more. -
Very interesting, thanks a lot. This is a very long and long lived thread, so maybe this has been mentioned before, and I missed it. If so, I apologise for the duplication. I understand Nathan Okun has done extensive and exhaustive research on real world armour penetration and penetration testing. Based on that he has developed a penetration calculator which provides a wealth of penetration data on a wide variety of shells, guns and armour. These resourcess can be accessed through the link below. http://www.navweaps.com/index_nathan/index_nathan.php Maybe you are already aware of this or you may even have used this resource in your work. But I thought it would be a shame not to mention this, just to be sure.

That's your punishment for not supporting them properly

I find cruisers the hardest class to fight, but that's something for another thread
-
Fair enough, I don't blame you. I just like a challenge
-
Sorry Hanse, simply do not agree. Capping in higher tiers is perfectly feasible. I manage better than 9 games out of 10. My prio list: 1: scout ✓ 2: cap 3: take out enemy DDs ✓ 4: put some fishes into enemy ships

Some good advice here already. I am a DD main and think it is entirely possible to play DDs aggressively and live. My take: - play a stealthy DD (detectability < 6 km) - check the team lineup before start for CVs and radar - if CV and radar, watch carefully as you approach cap whether you have support. No support: try cap but be ready to run - with support: cap but do not smoke, turn as soon as you cap to be able to run - spotted: turn and smoke when running away - maneouvre wildly as long as you are spotted. Lots of enemies: hold your fire to end spot - aircraft: turn off AA until spotted then activate sector Practice this a few times until you find your style. You will die one in 10 games but that's OK. Optimize to not lose more than half your HP in first 5 minutes. Lose more: play more conservatively. Good luck, we need more brave DD jockeys
