So, I am finishing Strassbourg mission 3 today or tomorrow and am curious how y'all are doing.

Maybe try other DD than Friesland for spotting torps, such as Lightning. Friesland is more an HE spammer from some distance, Lightning a cap contester. You will spot more torps contesting caps.

Plays poorly should be read imo as has such limited understanding of game and game mechanics that said player should first get an acceptable skill level at much lower tiers.

I am all set now. Even got the dockyard missions done. So now I'll see how much grinding I feel up to this week.

Just had a game where our Des Moines, the only radar cruiser in the game actually went away from the enemy team to hide behind an island. Of course, we lost Checked his WR: 45%. He was trying to qualify from silver to gold

Wow, that's not much My advice on deto: never run deto on BBs or cruisers. They detonate so rarely that it is pure waste. Run deto on DDs only in competitive, not in random (not in coop if any madman would contemplate that. In coop I strip my ships of all camo and signals, unless I need 1 signal for a particular task). So in random you detonate 1 in 50 or 100 games, and presto, you have another 10 deto signals

Yeah I miss the signals too. In normal random I have been running a lean signal setup now for over half a year: just the few most important signals. It works fine for me, so that's a way to economise on signals. F.e. I used to run deto on DDs standard, but don't any more. So you blow up in 1-2% of games, not a big deal. In ranked I run full signals set up, but am running low on some signals, so that's inconvenient.

I am playing gold now and it's not bad. As always, it is hard to make an objective call on this, but it seems like there are fewer sociopaths and glue sniffers in gold. So far so good. Overall I am not unhappy with the new ranked system. It is less of an excruciating grind than the old ranked seasons and the gameplay seems decent enough, certainly an improvement over what you see in randoms these days. So I enjoy it.

I reset the IJN torp boat line a couple of months ago. I was really disappointed in playing those boats again. It feels as though their relative power has been badly nerfed. I am no great fan of the EU/Swedish line either. I really miss defensive smoke to disengage. My favourite DD line is the UK boats. Good balance of qualities helps me to make the best out of most situations. Capable in contesting caps as well as in independent ops like flank defense or push.

Alas, as I had feared, the result of WGs wanton vandalism is showing badly this season. Teams truly suck badly. Absolute incompetence and mindless farming has become the norm. As everyone has predicted and as WG is deeply uninterested in, as long as the roubles flow in. Very sad, it could be so much better.

I think even 50% would set some bar to get to silver, and you could have perhaps 52% for gold. This would weed out the glue sniffers for silver and set a bit of a bar for gold.

There's been a lot of talk about the CV problem., including the elitist "plebs need not contribute" thread going on right now. So, as I am a mere 52% WR mortal, I have to make this is seperate thread. Is it still possible to play DDs today? I say yes. Attached, exhibit A: a 4 CV T8 game where I sank the radar DD Orkan as well as one of the opposing CVs, shooting down 20 planes in the process. Yes, I died in the end (last to survive) because my team melted. No, the red CVs were not unicums. Yes, this is a good game, and sometimes things don't go quite as well. I would not play Seattle in ranked. It cannot carry. I think cruisers are probably the hardest class to play as well.

Well if you can do that consistently, please let me know how to do that.

Heh I burnt out on WoWs in 2018 and took a 1 year hiatus. Yes I do play one other game but that one is now winding down and waiting for a new release (Gran Turismo Sport waiting for GT7). I like the WoWs basics a lot but think the game is being maltreated by WG for moneh. I only started improving at WoWs a year ago. Before that I thought game mechanics were more historically accurate. Then I found out the overmatch insanity. Also, I learned to adapt to patato teams and adjust my risk appetite and play style accordingly. And I discovered the Wiki and this forum for useful information.

I have tried radar Neptune and it is simply impossible to angle her so that you are not an instant devstrike case.

Btw how do you play 31K battles in WoWs? You have no family or day job?

Radar Edin is very amusing and much more viable than radar Neptune which is more squishy and meets more 18 inch overmatch.
