Soviet Carriers Early Access bundles prices "leaked"
Camperdown replied to wot_2016_gunner's topic in General Discussion
Most early access have events so you can get up to T7 for free, e.g. the Dutch cruisers. So, duh? -
What are your preliminary plan for the birthday event?

Are you tempted to install again to farm the SCs? -

As always, I intend to collect anything I can get for free without having to do an excessive grind. -

Well, bragging rights: I have seen many a 7 Provinciën be greeted with a hail of derision in randoms. -
Seydlitz also has significantly better side protection than Moltke, which could fit with a premium ship. It should be more survivable.

I can't understand why people would pay a penny for early access -
Submarine feedback v 2.0 (Tier X only)
Camperdown replied to Bindolaf_Werebane's topic in General Discussion
But then, there was a long string of misses too. So, if you want historical damage, you also need to use historical hit rates (against warships underway, not merchant ships) 7 knot submerged speed etc. etc. Subs would straight away become a very unpopular class of ships. And WG would sell zero premiums -

I think subs are too fast submerged. What you could also do is make the max dive time dependent on the speed. High speed is rapid depletion of batteries. Sort of limited speed boost. You could also have longer high speed with snorkeling, at the price of higher detection. I also don't like that hydro does not work as irl. I would like hydro to be more realistic. -

The diving/spotting/speed balance for subs now is just plain wrong. Imo as long as this is not adjusted, subs will be an abomination in the game. -
Thanks for your replies. We indeed have different preferences.

Fair enough, with just one caveat: behavioural science shows that transparency alone is not enough to prevent undesirable outcomes. Your entire design of the customer journey can be such that you are technically transparent, while the customer will still be tricked into behaviour he or she would not choose for if the decision was consciously made. This is exactly what WG is doing, what I object to and which you seem to accept. Am I correct in that last assumption?

Thank you for your clear answers. I think in the above lies exactly the issue. The sale of tobacco is legal. Yet sigarrettes kill millions. Do you want to add nicotine and tar to your products so that more people get addicted and die? As a company, you have moral obligations that go beyond legal requirements. You have to decide whether you want to harm your customers or not. So far, WG has chosen to actively harm their customers. And do so in intransparant and addictive ways. This is what creates the shitstorm and ill will towards your company. WG can choose to continue to act immorally. Or you may decide to make a different trade-off between revenue and responsible behaviour. Which world do you want to live in and do you want your kids to live in?

That's correct. I was just checking because behavioural economics has changed the way everyone thinks about consumer protection. Caveat emptor has been supplemented by increasing requirements of responsible behaviour by organisations. As a result, consumer protection has become a very complex area. It is very hard to define hard requirements for what is and what is not legally allowed. One approach is to have more principle based legislation, another is to require organisations and industries to define their own principles of ethical behaviour. Either way, the combination of behavioural insights and modern web-based technology is a very dangerous one. And one society has not yet begun to get to grips with. As a result, huge gaps exist between legislation and desirable outcomes. As a result, imo one cannot just fall back on legal requirements, as they often fall short. It is a big challenge for society to fill that gap over the next years. Btw, this may take a decade or more. In the meantime, big issues will surface which cannot be effectively handled by the current frameworks. Because of that, I do not take a relaxed attitude to WGs business practices and monetisation. They are quite obviously trying to scam their customers out of money in unethical ways. They are skirting the edges of woefully inadequate legislation. This is something every sensible adult should be concerned about.

Big blastas -
I am not sure whether you are aware of behavioural economics. Human psychology has certain vulnerabilities which can be exploited by unscrupulous companies. Tldr: most people can be manipulated into simple mistakes or undesirable behaviour. Especially in gaming environments this weakness is exploited. It basically boils down to predatory behaviour to con people out of their money. Now you can argue that people should be rational and behave responsibly, but real life observation shows they aren't and don't. That's why we have legislation to prevent predatory commercial practices.

A Missed Opportunity: the pre-Dreadnought Era of motorized Warships
Camperdown replied to Aethervoxx's topic in General Discussion
In fact, the current WoWs resembles pre- Dreadnought warfare much more than how Dreadnoughts really fought themselves. For Victorian battles you would adjust down the speed multiplier, which is 5 now in WoWs, to allow for the shorter fighting ranges and presto, it would work as a charm. -

The silly thing is, I joked the Russian T10 premium would be Red October. Ofc, I underestimated WickedGhastly. Even normal T10s are already superior to any phantasy -

Yeah, I recognise what you say. The 2 things that frustrate me most are stoopid teams and grinds that don't suit me. As for the teams, I have 1 suggestion that may be of some help. What helped me is consciously learning to differentiate my play style. Step 1: pay close attention to the behaviour of your team during the first one or two minutes. Step 2: team does not behave like a group of [edited]: play your normal style as you please. Team plays as if they are straight from the asylum: play cautiously. Step 3: consciously develop your cautious play style. Try to have 2 or 3 different styles for your 5 or 10 favourite ships. It turns out differentiation in play styles is different for different classes and types of ships. Frustrations with insane teams will never go entirely away, but I hope this may help a bit retaining your sanity and having some fun with the game -
No, dont worry, not a penny real moneh for WarGreedy As snowflake season is coming and I am sitting on a bit of resources, I am thinking about spending some stuff on some extra T10s. I am a DD main, and specialise in sinking red DDs and contesting caps. So, low detect, good guns and decent torps for some extra damage. UK DD line is my favourite. I play cruisers too, if they are effective against DDs. CVs nope, subs nope, BBs not much lately. Free XP. I don't see anything interesting to buy, so am considering to FXP FdG and Izumo. that's about 500K FXP and I have 2 extra T10s. Plus the satisfaction of 2 lines completed, though I may let Yammy and Currywurst rust in port. Only question: is Hayate worth 2M FXP? I have only 1.3 mil in the kitty, so that takes some more saving. Research points: I will soon have the 55K for Vampire II. Only question: are any of the LU's still worth it? Gold. I will have enough gold for Cossack soon. So that's going to be a T8. Steel. I am leaning towards Plymouth. Or is Ragnar a good choice? Coal. I dont see anything I am really interested in. Neustrashimy? Dont see anything special in her. Am I wrong? I still need some radar and hydro mod, so I buy one of those when I have a coupon. Any good advice or suggestions? Much appreciated!

There are some previous threads on this if you search on World of Victorian Warships. -
Thanks for all your good advice. Based on that Cossack and Vampire II are definite goes. I think I might get Neustrashimi too, because my current T9 DD is Jutland, and it sounds as if Neus at least matches her. I might now also get Ragnar first rather than Plymouth. And perhaps I should only FXP FdG and get Groningen.
