    Why is Gneisenau so worthless?

It is good. Not necessarily the best. Would pick Atlanta over Gneisenau for mere AA value, because it is harder to spot and has unlimited defAA. Tier for tier, Yuubari and Texas are even better though, especially given at those tiers IJN CVs rely on friendly AA to not lose the air battle. And fewer people have a clue about what these two ships do to the limited hangar size at lower tiers.

    Gneisenau advice

Why would you get Propulsion Mod 2 on your Gneisenau? Propulsion Mod allows a ship to get moving faster from a standstill. It is good for DDs that at times camp locations, need to get moving fast in situations or maybe some cruisers like Atlanta, where it can be useful if you hug islands, peak around a bit and don't need rudder to kite. But Gneisenau is a BB, it'll likely never sit still, unless yourun it aground or something. Steering Gears Mod 2 or Damage Control Mod 2 are both better choices. Auxiliary armaments also is actually a bit iffy. It's unlikely you'll be stripped off your heavy AA/secondary mounts and with this few guns, you really don't want to lose them, which can happen. Also keeps your exposed torp tubes alive longer. Any reason EM is better than AR? The turrets turn already pretty fast and getting extra dpm on main battery and secondaries is very valuable.

    kamikaze no, but shinyo, sure.

You're grinding the wrong line, buddy. This is not what any of the CLs is supposed to be and it'd be better to adapt to the notion that these are not open water ships, not go around complain that these ships do not fit your playstyle. And how did you come up with this title and opening statement? It makes almost no sense at all. Even reworked. Like, Kamikaze and Shinyo are two IJN ships, one which actually got implemented, none which are USS or even cruisers. How did this ever make sense to anyone? I do not comprehend? The whole opening statement does not even mention the ship you are talking about by name. I was like "What IJN DD has no torps? Why complain about gun range? What about Atlanta?" It's utterly confusing. Do you have no idea how to structure text so other people can actually follow your thought process, giving them the information that is actually necessary to understand what you wrote? Also... to kite => kiting => kiter to hug => hugging => hugger Lastly, even if it was a "poor man's Atlanta", it'd be appropriate, because it is T6, not T7. That's like complaining that Gneisenau is a poor man's Tirpitz (and asking for it to get an accuracy buff, because "screw German BBs being brawlers, I have to play it as a mid-range sniper").
  4. I wonder what purpose these resources are supposed to serve. As to the missions, lol. When you want the DD to survive your salvos, so you can try break its engine again.

    Next t9 xp premium?

Dunno what it'll be, but likely it'll be a BB. If it is not a BB, it's just a BB pretending to be some other class.

How to give a brother a irrational hatred of red team CVs

As a Hosho, check AA values of ships in your tier spreads, learn which are good, then bait the Langley into fights over the better friendly AA ships (those that actually have guns). It's the only way to win. Once you wiped that squad with AA assistance, you basically won the air, if you don't manage to waste your fighters to enemy AA. Once air is won, Hosho is a much meaner ship than the Langley though, because Langley drops a solid wall, but unless you have no clue how to make proper maneuvers, dodging them in low-tier dreadnoughts is easy, as they all have silly tight turning circles (except Myogi, Kongo and Ishizuchi, but Myogi and especially Kongo on top hull have enough AA to leave a serious dent in your plane reserves, if they are skilled). Hosho meanwhile can cross-torp. Approach a target with both torp bombers from the front simultanously, one left, one right, then drop from two sides. If the continue going straight, they get deleted, if they maneuver, they eat at least one of the drops. The best way to defend against that is to try turn around before it is too late and once the enemy is in range, focus fire one plane squad, while turning into the other, hoping the squad that gets its run will be depleted. Might also mess up the timing and if the drops are successive and not simultanous, you could try dodge both.

    Realistic Radar

That's why USS Iowa managed to straddle the Kagero-class Nowaki with radar-assisted fire control from over 30 km away. Radar also not only cares about target ship profile, but also about the height where it is mounted on the operating ship. A higher mast allows to see further past the horizon (just like with with normal optics, which is one reason for why the IJN gave the Fuso-class those absurd masts in their quest for range).
  8. PEF is better than Yorck allround, except torpedoes and maneuverability. But Yorck also likes to lose her engine all the time. Edit: Also, PEF gets no hydro/defAA
  9. All this time I wondered whether to compare it to Scharnhorst, Kongo, Giulio or Hood. And then it turns out to be a Mega-Yorck... Needs 12 torp tubes though.
  10. From the image, the central part has some large superstructure that can be spammed. The extremities can be spammed. This is no Nikolai that doesn't care about your HE spam. 50 mm deck armour is nice, but I wouldn't call it "crazy good".

Operation Cherry Blossom - Your First thoughts?

Played twice in Chapa. Both times 5 stars. Mission seems pretty interesting. Dunno if it needs to be harder. If it gets harder, please put that in hard mode, because I don't want another operation where you basically cannot trust people to ever get it done. One issue, but I guess that's for balance... I get triggered everytime again when I see those bot CV dive bombers go in, then by default target the first ship they find with their AP bombs, which typically is a Shiratsuyu. Obviously doing no meaningful damage at all.
  12. Well, by German standards, even if those are quite high in this regard. Most Germans have belt that goes up and into the bow section, with Gneisenau and Kurfürst even going all the way to the bow. Also, even an exposed citadel is not as much of an issue, if you manage to angle, but 25 mm can be annoying. Not saying this is going to be the achilles' heel that'll make the rest of the stats balanced, but I sure wonder how good or bad that armour is in action.
  13. My guess would be, that what he wanted to highlight, in addition to a lack of turtleback, the issue is not just 25 mm armour, but how extensive the 25 mm section is, due to the long bow. After all, that would make it easier for others to hit the less protected parts and deal massive damage and make it harder to bait shots at the actually armoured section. If such is true, the ship would pretty much pay for its concealment and other qualities with being squishy as hell... being a real T6 GC...
  14. I mostly just pick PT, EM (if turrets are slow), AR and LS. As a DD, the 3 pt skills are too valuable. As a CA, Expert Loader might seem nice, but otherwise, I'd rather buff AA. CVs might be rare, but if they happen, I rather not be dropped. dual spotter plane might be nice, but stuff like High Alert is just way too narrow for me. For CLs, CE and IFHE already eat 14 pts. Getting DE or SI for second 3 pt skill or BFT for AA seems most useful. For RN, you get the points, but well... Just get PT, AR, SI, CE, AFT, BFT, JoAT. No catapult plane, no ammunition choice, no need to pick up irrelevant skills. AFT and BFT also buff secondaries, which can be hilarious at a few of them. For BBs... for pure survivability, I consider CE, FP, BoS, SI pretty much the strongest build. Ha and JoAT might give faster damage control and repair party, but typically, either FP prevents the fire or the rest makes duration so short, you don't put the fire out. And if you have to put out a fire or flooding, it's better to have the skills to avoid getting set on fire again, rather than have a repair party that still takes longer than your fire duration. And torpedoes really aren't that much of an issue. Obviously, a secondary specced BB has no points to spare.
  15. He listed it as a pro, as it has a plus mark before it, instead of a minus. It actually is a con though. Also... This should be a con and is just silly, when WG themselves state they do not want to give better rewards for supporting activities. The rewards for smoking up others and spotting torpedoes just don't exist and at the end of the day, these ships will need to be balanced around assets that actually are rewarded by the ingame economy.

    Cyclones [poll]

Budyonny is hardly your typical Russian cruiser. Apart from it, after Kirov they mostly have no armour to withstand a beating (except Moskva), they have mostly 4 km suicide torps (except Donskoi and Moskva) and turning circles that are only beaten by the carriers at their tiers. If you run into a BB at 8 km with a Kirov, Shchors, Chapa Donskoi or Moskva, you better hope the enemy is going to let you live. And even then, Budyonny isn't some T6 Hipper that will bounce BB shells and has 6 torps per side.

    Cyclones [poll]

RU DDs still have torps and with 8 km detection range and Russian speed, you can actually make torp rushes if planned well. Cyclones are more of an issue for cruisers and even there, it's a matter of adapting. Don't go alone, try to predict enemy movements, potentially go for the torp rush. Load AP, because likely at 8 km range, you are better off with that. Even the clumsiest of cruisers with the worst brawling qualites, the Russians, have a tool to abuse cyclones, which is called radar. I don't know how you can't see the advantage of 8 km spotting range. No longer will you get HE spammed from long range. Any cruiser getting to 8 km away from you is at the range where you can comfortably hit them. No, it just needs a different mindset. As elastion stated, being able to predict the moves of opponents is now more critical than ever and mistakes can get punished harder than usual.

    Cyclones [poll]

The only bad thing about Cyclones is that it benefits certain classes a whole lot more. Still, I'm fine with them and I'm of the opinion that they don't remove tactics, they change them. and whoever manages to adapt better wins. Brawling is a tactic too.

    Battleships in smoke

It can be situationally useful, but it no longer is the silly abusable mechanic it once was. It still is useful for BBs if they need to withdraw, for cloaking advances and, funnily enough, secondary-specced ships can stay in smoke with little to fear, while secondaries go to work on things in range. This can be brutal in high tiers, as a smoked up BB can have over 11 km range on secondaries and happily spam that out of the smoke. Obviously, smokes are still torp magnets and with a BB inside, even more so. Anyway, yes, smoke only reduces detection range. Without firing, you are only spotted at guaranteed detection range (usually 2 km), but every ship has a value of detection while firing in smoke that can be viewed in port when hovering over detection range or in battle when pressing "H". It should be noted that this not only applies to BBs, but also to cruisers and DDs and while it is most remarkable for BBs (which typically lose all advantages of smoke screen when firing, for cruisers it can still be quite high, with some cruisers like Kutuzov having over 7 km smoke detectability when firing, meaning the enemy might be able to rush your smoke and blap you at a comfortable range. For DDs, this mostly matters at knife fights, where shooting raises detectability slightly over 2 km and may spoil the defensive torp attack at 2 km against rushing ships, though for German DDs with 15 cm guns, the smoke penalty might matter a bit more when you fight with your hydro in a smoke cloud.

    Radar the numbers

In general with your numbers, but picking one case in particular as an example... If 28.8% of ships have radar, how is it 2.7 average in a 12v12 match of 24 ships? I think you copied the wrong number here, but in general neglected the 24 ships per battle, 12 per side. And 3 radars per team is different from 3 radars per battle.

    Is Edge Surfing Ever OK?

I do see why it seems frustrating, but I would write this off as a CV UI issue though, not as a border interaction issue. Should be fixed with all the other CV issues, but the border per se seems fine in all other regards.
  22. HaachamaShipping

    Is Edge Surfing Ever OK?

I don't play CV enough to run into this issue, but I trust the judgement of certain people that do.

    RN DD announced

Type 98 10 cm gun ballistics are far from Russian. At the ranges stated, you can go and shoot maybe larger ships still, but the shell arcs will start getting floaty fast, given the low shell weight. In that regard, Daring starts out slower, but at range retains speed more. Apart from initial muzzle velocity and large size though, Harugumo is not that comparable to Grozovoi, handling even worse, having way fewer consumables and a sixtuple launcher that reloads likely even slower.

    Ships that need a buff

I almost consider Texas mid tier. Also, Yuubari at worst sees a Zuiho and can panic the autodrop. Texas can see T7 CVs and has not much of a panic spread and a lot of close range AA that might mean that despite wiping out the squads, it'll still eat torps or even get wrecked. But yeah, for T5, Texas is also horrid for CVs.

    Ships that need a buff

yeah, but most T4/5 CVs have no clue about that and just go for the easy target. Yuubari certainly is the worst target in all of low tier and I'd say, its AA gimmick works as designed. Other than that though... it is a pretty fun low tier CL, with decent fire chance and god tier accuracy. Imo, needs no buff at all.
