Then either play together with a T6 DD or wait till you have the T7. And yes, the KGV is better than the QE. It lacks the overmatch, but is better in all other areas. By mismatching tiers, you are basically cheating your team for a T7 BB, getting a T6 instead. And even if you were not useless, it might would have performed better than a T7. Even if the KGV was not better than the QE (though it is), even then your team basically got a QE in a slot where it could have gotten any T7, including Nagato, Hood, Lyon, Gneisenau, Nelson, etc ships that outclass the QE by far. And even if one could argue "But we won, so why does it matter? To win harder?", it basically could be argued, Yes, to win harder. After all, what if any other T7 could have allowed you a play that would allow another person on your team to have a better game? What if it could, for example, preserve some other ship, because a Gneisenau could have been up there at the front already tanking, but slow QE was still underway and could only provide long-range support? Such is the reason mismatched divisions are frowned upon and why you get reported (deservedly), regardless of your performance, because it's just bad manners.

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
HaachamaShipping replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
20 sec at T10 is not exactly cruiser reload. Especially now with BBs like Republique, 20 sec is closer to BBs than CAs. They aren't harmless, but the lack of overmatch is a lack of overmatch. Yes, Stalingrad can citadel ships and potentially devstrike them from broadside, but most T10 cruisers can deal high amounts of damage to broadside targets. For comparison, Stalingrad has 82.8k AP potential per salvo, Hindenburg has 70.8k. Sustained dpm though, any other T10 cruiser is better. And even ships like Lyon and Scharnhorst are not weak, but their lack of overmatch can be felt, when even a Gneisenau can humiliate her elder sister or you can actually tank the 28 cm shells of Scharnhorst in most of the cruisers, if they just don't hit your bow/stern (while 38/40.6/41 cm would overmatch the 25 mm armour of them). -
Being top tier in a Kagero is not exactly problematic. Yes, the T6 and T8 BBs don't handle like a Yamato or Kurfürst, but in exchange you get likely less radar cruisers players that are less likely to know WASD BBs that less likely have hydro/radar far greater concealment advantage (the closest lower tier ship you can meet concealment-wise is a Shiratsuyu and it is even worse in gun fights than the Kagero) less disadvantage in the few gun fights you get into. Yes, trying to torp some Warspite or Colorado that can turn on a dime may be a bit harder, but compared to all the advantages, I take that.

Feedback concerning BB rng spread in the current "HE matters" meta
HaachamaShipping replied to Bratwurst_Bob's topic in General Discussion
Warspite and Bismarck, eh... Why Your secondaries are not going to be reliable damage dealers. Main battery is. Buff your main battery, not your secondaries.not on Warspite? What else would you use? AA mod? The AA isn't very good. Secondary mod? Warspite being a brawler? Dunno about you, but with 25 mm armour all over, accurate guns and a turret traverse that got buffed but still is not good, this ship is more mid-range than anything. There's little point in brawling with this ship. Maybe once upon a time, before they brougt out the Germans... This "I cannot push or get burned to a crisp" mentality is practically what allows the new cruisers to get away with their antics, because if there is one thing they cannot deal with, it is their position getting pushed. If you pressure a Nürnberg, a Yorck or even an Atlanta that tries to camp an island, they can give you a faceful of torps. Dallas, Helena, Cleveland, etc, cannot. They can only try to dakka you down with HE, which only works if they can shoot at you for minutes without any counter. In a straight up duel, they get sunk, a Bismarck survives. Not in the least because the Bismarck has 50 mm deck armour that does not get penned, belt armour up to the deck that does not get HE penned, secondaries with 11.3 km range that hurt these thin-skinned cruisers (unless of course you are too afraid to get close enough and rather stay back not hitting crap with the 38 cm guns, because they aren't good for that), a massive hp advantage and a repair party. Yes, they can pen bow and superstructure, but at some point these get saturated and the amount of damage they deal compared to your hp pool shouldn't be higher than the percentage of hp you shave off them with your AP, even when not landing citadels. And Massachusetts is even worse for these cruisers, because all its secondaries hurt. -
Finally, the 200% is over. Now I can go back to winning.
HaachamaShipping replied to valrond's topic in General Discussion
I don't think it's 200% bonus. It's the weekend. -
Mostly shreds DB that go directly above you, but if DBs drop you still, you likely lose the AA. I still think Hood bundle was the only economic bundle.
-
defAA, no hydro. Not even the option there. And you get one charge (2 with premium consumable, 3 with premium and SI). Shell arcs are pretty ok. Don't know how long it takes, but you certainly should never have a problem hitting things. Not with Yuubari.
-
Scharnhorst has Gneisenau A-hull secondaries. What makes the Gneisenau so good at AA is that B-hull replaces the mixed secondaries of 15 cm anti-surface and 10.5 cm AA mounts with 12.8 cm dual purpose guns. So, suddenly, instead ofyour 6x2 105 mm guns on long-range aura, you have 11x2 12.8 cm guns. Also means it has 6x2 4 second reload 12.8 cm secondaries effectively on a side, with 8 km max range and 1/4 caliber pen.

10 point american comander
HaachamaShipping replied to lukathenotorious's topic in Newcomers' Section
DDs or cruisers, imo. BBs don't have nearly as much of a gain from the skill Concealment Expert at 10 pts, while for DDs from T6 on it is basically a must have. Below that, it's just nice. But not having it at T6 and later gets painful really fast and a 10 pt commander allows you to never find yourself there. -
Don't have the Yugumo yet, but looking forward to it. It may be a slight improvement only, but I find the Kagero already ok and typically it's T8-10 matches, so if yuugumo can perform as well in most areas and as good in some others, I'm fine with that.
-
It doesn't. I don't think any of the RN 38 cm guns has good HE (just modest), with Hood having 34% fire chance and I think 5.3k damage (give or take a couple hundred). In fact, the Nagato (and IJN 41 cm guns in general) arguably has better HE performance with only 30% chance, but 6.5k damage. Shooting HE in Hood is basically just silly.
-
It isn't some overly quirky ship with torps and small caliber guns like Scharnhorst or with RN superheal and awesome guns like Nelson. It's just a solid allround package. Bought it with a 30% off coupon and it really is an ok ship. As T7 has a tendency to be top tier, that of course kind of adds to it (though I played this ship in T9 and frankly, while it certainly is not easy, the speed was appreciated and you can still bounce off 406 mm shells off your belt, while 38 cm also pens you from T6s). I like it a lot for being more conventional, but also kind of strong. If you can get it for a decent offer, the ship's pretty fine. Bonus is also that with turret traverse being fast, you don't even need a British BB captain. British CL captain is just fine for playing the ship.
-
You may not have had to use the gimmick, but it also saved you from noticing how pointless it can be. Mighty Hood Bundle or aL Hood Bundle? Imo, the logic isn't bad, just, T8 BB premiums are not exactly great. Their tech tree companions typically outshine them. Not necessarily worth 45 Euro.
-
Honestly Hood AA is not that good that you'd want a CV in your match. Even fully specced for it. This is no Atlanta/Flint/Gneisenau, ships that actually have an AA worth something for defending ships around them. Hood defAA is practically just a button you press to try not get dropped too hard or to make it costly at least. Given the large turning circle, this ship is not exactly good for CV divs (Gneisenau at least has the long range AA to not be as helpless).

Depending on where you fill in the missing punctuation, he was actually right.
-
Please don't pair ships of different tiers. Tyvm. QE has absolutely no business against T9. Ever. Nor any other T6 BB.

It says a lot of sad things about the game and this ship. -
Akatsuki is a MM-dependant almost hybrid that had to look at the matchup and then decide whether it could count on concealment advantage or not. If you go up against DDs that outspot you by a mile (like T8), play more defensive and maybe even supportive of other DDs, because chances are, you run into a T8 gunboat DD and die if you go solo. against same or lower tier, you can be a bit more bold. The guns are long reload, good ballistics, for their tier okish, given you can 1v1 other DDs, when kiting. The speed gets you around. The main job will be spamming torps around. Kagero's guns are better (7 second reload instead of 7.5), just most opponents are much stronger now too. The ship is slower, but akatsuki was just an exception. Fubuki, Kagero, Yuugumo (and premiums Asashio and Harekaze) all have this speed. Hatsuharu and Shiratsuyu are not fast either and the Akizuki is on cruiser levels. IJN DDs are not fast usually. What you do regain in the Kagero though, is the concealment advantage. Where the Akatsuki relied on speed to run off when it got outspotted, Kagero can see its opponents usually first. As to hitting things with torps, stock you get same torps as before, upgraded you get better torps. With 2x4. you really need to go away from Akatsuki's mentality of just spamming torps anywhere and think about how you set up a torp run. If you do it well, it's a lot of damage, if not a devastating strike. Also, one single Kagero torp can end most DDs. But yeah, Kagero returns to a more passive playstyle, not unlike Fubuki.

Obligatory How to Hood...
-
Broadside yes, angled, no. IJN from T5 to T7 have highest hp in tier of all non-premiums and while not the greatest of armour schemes, sufficient to not outright die if not shot in the citadel from the side. Decent guns though and from T5 all the way to T8 among the best overall ships for their tier. Nagato basically does to KGV what your QE did to Fuso. And the Amagi...
-
That's a CV issue, not a Hood issue, really. Just enjoy the ship and keep in mind, you get a BB with stupid AA without having to invest as much as a Gneisenau and without being basically a New york, like the Texas. What's an AA-spec Texas going to do, but suffer from 21 knots speed and lulzy T5 MM, fighting ships it has no chance of beating typically? Maybe one day CVs will return.

HaachamaShipping replied to Lady_godiva_s's topic in General Discussion
Not few of these points can be applied to cruisers regarding BBs. The amount of solo options the Cleveland has to kill a same tier BB reliably are nigh-nil. What's it going to do? Kite a frigging Bismarck with it's pathetic range? At the range it could actually be sure the Bismarck isn't dodging the shells, because of the floatiness, you are almost in secondary range and those secondaries have an easier time penning the Cleve as the Cleve has penning the Bisko. And that is disregarding the 38 cm shells the Bismarck will shove up the Cleveland's rearend, overmatching the CL just about anywhere. That Cleve camps humps that island for a very good reason and likely it's far easier for DDs to move around than for these cruisers. And yes, BB population might also be a tad bit unhealthy. -
Both come with torps. How often do you need those? On Mutsu, it's basically just a joke. The main error you made was thinking Hood is about its AA. It isn't. The AA is but some funny add-on trick, which you can spec into or not, and then forget it even existed. Not rarely your rocket launchers will get wrecked anyway, making it entirely pointless. What Hood is about is the tankiness and speed. And it's what you'll have to use for consistent good performance. This ship is not bad. It's an actually decent premium. But you have to realise, your hit point pool is there for a reason. And it is the largest at your tier for a reason. Hood can soak up potential damage like few can at T7, thanks to its high hp pool, a heal that restores 60% pen damage (instead of 50%. It's a bit extra, don't get too excited) and its ability to angle. It is blessed with turret firing angles that many others at the tier in the game can only dream of, being able to use all 8 of its guns without leaving autobounce territory. It's amazing. Also, it has not just armour belt all the way to the deck (no squishy upper belt), but also 51 mm deck for most of the deck section. This makes Hood, together with Gneisenau one of the most HE resistant BBs at the tier, shattering even IFHE 152 mm and German 203 mm (that one millimetre is actually important. Yorck pens the deck though) along large parts of the ship. Can your Nagato claim such tankiness? No, it cannot. It eats a 5-6k IFHE salvo from something like a Shchors or Helena while your Hood will lose maybe 1-2k and maybe catch fire (but that can be repaired). Hood also is seriously fast. Like, max speed of 32 knots. That is Gneisenau level. Only Iowa/Missouri will be faster in your MM spread (and french BB with speed boost). Compared to Nagato and, dev team bless them, the Colorado, your ship has a far easier time repositioning and dictating the engagement range. Turning circle is wide, like with Gneisenau, but with such speed, you turn around surprisingly fast (you just need the space for it). Rudder is responsive too, so no fear that you are missing out there (or that you'd need to spec into steetring gears over damage control to add to your tankiness. What is the price of this all, you might ask? Well, it comes twofold. First, you get no spotter plane. Keeps you a bit blind and short ranged. Eh, gotta live with it. Really, it is inconvenient, but of all the downsides one could have, I think thise one is pretty acceptable. Second are the guns. They lack pen. Seriously. They will not citadel BBs unless you are very very close. This is due to reduced penetration values, but also a less delayed fuze. But less delayed fuze means that against lightly armoured targets (read, cruisers and Ds) you overpen less and often pen for serious hurt or citadel the cruiser right out. It's not a complete downside thus. Especially, considering you can still slap broadside BB for 10 k, at very short ranges you do get citadels and you can still overmatch. If you fight angled opponents (the ones that are actually hard to kill anyway, as for the broadsiders, you don't need an OP ship to take them apart), you weren't going to get citadels anyway, so hitting the bow for overmatch pens is a decent strategy. Or superstructure, with reduced overpen risk. Some may claim the guns are derpy. No, they aren't. They just aren't Warspite guns. They are basically QE guns, with better traverse (much better). And they are still sufficient to wreck things. And if you compare it to the opposition, Gneisenau and Lyon have far less accurate guns, with Gneisenau having no way to even compensate for that like Lyon can with 16 shells. Hood thus is a solid package of a very very good T7 BB hull and a mediocre main battery. But the main battery is not bad and the handling is good.It might not be as exciting as, say, Scharnhorst, the torp BB with its samaller fast firing guns, but it is a solid ship that doesn't need to hide. And while you likely never will devstrike a BB, as long as you don't show your very underwhelming flat broadside belt, you won't be devstriked either. But hey, a Nagato showing side isn't any less dead.
