What is the "flavor" of the new RN DDs?
HaachamaShipping replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
On Acasta, I took BFT over SI. Honestly, cutting the reload from 5 to 4.5 seconds seems much better than a 7th smoke, especially as these smokes individually provide so little. I can see that possibly at later tiers, you'd take SI when these ships have more consumables but at T5, where most who will grind this ship will maybe get to 10 points, there are better 3 pt picks. I still have to make my mind up though what combination of SE, BFT and SI I'd take at later tiers, given SI is obviously useful, but with the consumables mostly being meh aside from the repair party, I can see myself picking BFT over it to get even more dakka at Daring. -

Unless going for a specialist build, FP is solid. Only deviate from it if you are building for AA/secondaries. -

It's kind of like Azur Lane, but without ships and more hardcore. -

It costs less than some other ships, but still 8 oil for max LMB Fletcher vs 2 base. -
It's there to help three ships with few guns and no armour. It's what keeps Yuubari fun and somewhat relevant when no CV is around.

I never played it either, but it's a natural consequence of no repair party, bad maneuverability and large size. People might call it a CL without citadel, but frankly, Worcester is less likely to die, because unless it just sits there broadside on, it can be pretty trolly and it can repair damage, while Harugumo, if it loses 10k to a BB AP pen or eats a few salvos of cruiser HE is down permanently. And in practice, Harugumos that were spotted and shot at were Harugumos that died rather fast. It was those that were hidden and well-positioned that can deny an area.
-
Never played Cleveland, so Yorck always got compared to Algerie in my port. And I always felt like the French were pretty low impact, the 3 torps per side weren't all that useful in executing ships and that is what I want torps for. Not budget IJN long range harassment. Helena certainly shakes things up, given while it has no torps, it has guaranteed hydro, CL agility and a heavy broadside on rather fast reload. And unlike Fiji, she also doesn't get overmatched by CA caliber. Might rebuy Yorck post-buff, as I sold her when getting Hipper, which actually does have a bit different hull, as it cannot be overmatched by 38 cm anywhere but superstructure. Makes it a very sturdy ship when blessed by MM. Then again, I played both with Hipper captain, which kind of makes it enjoyable anyway.
-
But Yorck isn't really a bad ship. You cannot really use long-range AP like on Hipper, but at least the HE only has low fire chance, not low damage. Ap at short to medium distances is workable too. The ship has mediocre armor and decent maneuverability, with a lot of torps. Soon it also gets a buff. Well, in the end, we are only one of 12. But usually, these defeats stay an exception and while slightly saddening, there's not much of a point getting angry over it. One can try to keep working on getting better, think about how to carry harder, but getting worked up just defeats the purpose of the game.

Unicorn or Shouhou. Unicorn gives a reload buff and heal. If you run non-LMB ships, that helps keep them useful. also... -
Pretty much anything at T10 can wreck a Harugumo, if you don't let it fight you on its terms. Mostly because everything can outlast a Harugumo except DDs which can outspot it and launch torps. Self-proclaimed BB main, with a love for the French line. Go figure.

46 is still a terrible sample size. If you won just two of the games you lost, you'd sit on 50%, 2 more and you'd be on a rather comfortable 54.35%. and you might agree, 2-4 battles going one way or another is not representative of how skilled a person is.
-
28 gun kills and 4 torp kills, so 32 kills overall. Almost 1 kill per game on average. Would guess 33 games. So, not representative. Given Shchors' torps have 4 km range, I'd even say they are playing the ship pretty aggressive to get torp kills in every 8th game. Apart from the few that have no torps, I know no cruiser at T7 that incentivises staying away from torp range more. Even ships with similarly bad torp ranges like Atlanta (4.5 km) can use these torps more, as Atlanta is a nimble small ship that prefers playing around islands and hasn't got the range to effectively fight at range. That is not to say Shchors cannot be a monster in brawls, as long as it meets no BB. If you use hydro, the ship is no Helena, but can demolish cruisers and destroyers with its respectable dpm and high shell velocity still. In terms of armament, it is the same as Chapayev after all.

Played some Leander to celebrate announcement of Leander retrofit in Azur Lane, which showed me once again why I love the ship. Also, finally decided to just free exp the remaining 83k of the FdG to GK, sold that PoS and bought the Kurfürst. It's not a Bismarck, it is an oversized paper ship, but it sure plays nicely and can do fun stuff. Like, wreck cruisers that think they can charge you, because 30 mm armour bounces 406 mm shells. Ctrl click them to see them die. -

Made my day. Now I'm hyped. Time to get the blueprints ready. Someone's getting retrofitted and it will be glorious. -

BMs are Monitors. One of those hull classifications noone knows, because of how rarely they were used. The BM designation in the USN goes all the way up to BM-10 and the ships were retired before WWII. Erebus and Terror are two British monitors and basically are budget units. They cost almost nothing to run, they have no hp and no defenses (so they die fast if the frontline cannot protect them), but they have a chance to trigger a barrage every so often, which murders everything in front of them. Later HMS Abercrombie joins them, I think. And yes, like in WWII, not everyone makes it through alive. -
It's a funny little ship. Good for when you don't want to play your T4 around spamming shells and rather shoot fewer shells with great precision. also it really kills those low tier planes and given that a Hosho/Langley has at best the plane reserves to replenish its squadrons once, you can shut those down with two charges of defAA.

Try to buy something you don't have enough coal for, I think.

Being slow, but maneuverable. Lots of close range dakka. Good fire change but rainbow at range. Gets meme AP at the end of the line. also gets very short range hydro, so in DD duels if you get torped, you really messed up and their smokes are lots, but very short. -
I wouldn't fight USN or Soviet DDs with this thing. Podvoisky can straight up wreck you at range and Nicholas stock already has more hp than Acasta and 5 guns with decent ballistics or at top configuration 4 USN guns, with better reload and higher HE shell damage. I find the Acasta dodges fast enough that you have issues keeping the guns on target (wouldn't take EM though, as the guns aren't slow and those 2 points might be better spent elsewhere) and unlike Podvoisky or Minekaze/Kamikaze you cannot just hope better ballistics will make up for dpm disparity. These DDs really aren't fast and if you mess up your positioning, you are out of the fight for quite some time. It's correct that IJN cruisers will keep up with you, but it is also worth noting, Soviets will too and Emile Bertin is faster than Acasta. If you ever have to face that thing alone, you're basically toast. I'll be honest. I don't consider this ship really any good. The one good thing is the maneuverability, the hp, speed, guns, torps, etc are all lackluster to sad. If it wasn't on the way to (hopefully) better DDs and free from mission, I'd not play this ship much and I'd certainly not play it when feeling irritated. I'd take the Minekaze over the Acasta pretty much any day and I'd not even fear the gun duel too much, given IJN ballistics make hitting easier and IJN concealment makes it the Minekaze's choice whether it wants to engage or not (that much on Acasta can fight IJN) Acasta, imo, is not for winning games reliably. It's for annoying the crap out of people by shelling them with 8% fire chance shells and torps spreads at people pushing into you.

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
HaachamaShipping replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
I can imagine it sucks, but to be fair, all these BBs bounce just as much off Des Moines and almost as much off Zao. Worcester side can get overmatched, Worcester deck is 30 mm. As Hindenburg, you love seeing these BB though, because they cannot overmatch you at all and 32 mm not only means HE pens (where as Hindi you really stop caring as you just assume you can pen any deck), but also easy AP pens if the armour isn't angled. Same with RN ships (which often just shoot HE back and you really won't win a dpm contest against Hindenburg that way), you can do silly numbers from regular pens on Conqueror's upper belt with AP, as is possible with Yamato upper belt (32 mm) and at times with Montana. Kurfürst is the hardest to pen like this, at range better aim for superstructure or load HE. Really, the Hindenburg HE is propped up by RoF, but if after a game you only have HE and fire damage, you either got outplayed by enemies hard or you outplayed yourself, because you cannot pull your T10 weight with pure HE spam. Hindenburg isn't some utility cruiser like the USN or Moskva, or long range HE harasser like Zao, it has to perform in dpm and actual map presence to make up for it and not just selling itself short for taking up a T10 cruiser slot. -

Flambass gets pretty loud and agitated in the vid. But it's certainly not lashing out. There's no BB as deadly to Hindenburg as a Republique. None. And there's little satisfaction in spamming a BB with "lol 50 mm pen" HE, when every other T10 cruiser can pen it too with HE (except Mino. for obvious reasons), but all other cruisers have good HE shells, while Hindenburg has only a decent RoF. Compared to Worcester, Zao, Des Moines, the Hindenburg isn't really that much of a Republique killer. Well, unless you give it broadside to get AP spammed... -

No, they keep whatever specialisation they had. Suppose you are like me, get a free DD, need a captain, so you put a 10 pt Nelson on it with specialisation Black Swan. Nelson will keep that specialisation and will need retraining when the ship gets to be non-premium. On the other side, maybe you aren't like me and get a new captain. Go to Recruit captain on the ship, the captain starts with specialisation of your premium (which normally is utterly useless), but would keep it after the DD introduction too.

But I dont want a bloody supercontainer?!?!
HaachamaShipping replied to Phrank_Phish's topic in General Discussion
The thing is, when you go to a restaurant and you pay for it, then you can make a claim to entitlement. When ingame you just get a container for free with a random chance to get a super container, ranting about it is pretty silly. Especially because it costs you nothing except a day of time till you can get the coal tomorrow.
