Battleships are now made of firewood and a joke to play.
HaachamaShipping replied to LandlubberWookie_IRL's topic in General Discussion
I do have certain grievances with the game. German BBs taking too much fire damage or being too bad isn't one of them though. Well, ok, FdG could use a buff. That thing is just terrible. -

Feel free to play some other classes then. I recommend USN light cruisers. You'll see your German BBs in a whole new light after you tried to burn a few of them down. -
Best t6 cruiser for getting potential damage?

Graf Spee -
Citpens reduce that 50k potential quite fast and quite drastically.

More like, Z-23 can equip CL guns. -
Would be nice for Izumo itself. Funnily enough though, current position teaches you straight bow in is best. If it was a Nelson setup, slight angle for all three turrets would be best. Slight angle though is what still gets you killed at Yamato.

These are stats that include games prior to the recent buff. as the oldest T9 BB, that's a ton of unbuffed games. Especially considering what the buffs entail. Buffs made this ship basically the proto-Yamato it should be. You don't get the overmatch guns, but you get the playstyle. Most of the time, bow-in, 6 guns only. When you can afford it, because noone shoots you, 9 guns. The buffs gave her 57 mm centre deck, which basically makes her almost less vulnerable to HE spam than Yamato and means even Yamato shells that hit the deck bounce off (in the past they'd overmatch 32 mm armour, which made Izumo basically T9 Nelson without the lolheal). Izumo has also less superstructure to farm, turns better, has a faster turret traverse, has more speed and better citadel protection. Izumo's guns are by no means slow. They are in fact fast. If you think Amagi has faster shells, you are sorely mistaken, as Amagi uses old 41 cm/45 3rd Year Type guns, which are 20s vintage guns from WWI-era, while the Izumo as an alternative Yamato design has more modern 41 cm/50 10th Year Type, which never were used IRL, but would be a longer-barreled version of the older guns. Izumo as a consequence outcompetes all other T9 BBs except Musashi in terms of penetration and shell velocity. Izumo has 870 m/s muzzle velocity, next best is Alsace, with 830 m/s (but 38 cm guns only). So, no, Izumo has basically the best guns at T9, except Musashi. In practice, this means, your shells are faster at the target, but they likely have greater vertical dispersion at range than Amagi. You will need to adjust for the muzzle velocity a bit. If you played French or Germans, that's a bit easier. Thankfully, IJN dispersion pattern makes the still good at range. Izumo actually has better firing angles when shooting backwards than forwards. You can try kite enemies at times, keeping your 9 guns. Frankly, with the way Izumo is now, with the improved deck, I'd really say, if you hate the Izumo, you'd likely not have fun with Yamato, because Yamato is similar. It's not the battlecruiser style of the Amagi, more the go from good position to good position where you don't get citadelled from the side. Pick off ships with your good guns.

I lost my game, and not to players...
HaachamaShipping replied to ASharpPencil's topic in General Discussion
Humor me, what is wrong about it? Is it that the player did not have to learn about other ships? Well, there are a lot of those whatever mains out there that play one class exclusively and don't bother with others. Is this now a crime or bad for the game? Or is the issue that the CVs are so easy to play that even an unskilled scrub can get 70% WR? Why then are there the kind of folks that have like 20% WR in a CV? Why isn't everyone doing awesome in CVs? Truth is, this player has decided they like CV play, they have acquired a set of skills suited to this particular class, they even are decent in this class (and thus able to contribute when playing it) and this is not really any more easy than learning to play how to BB or DD. That this skillset translates far worse into other classes is a consequence of the RTS gameplay, but not broken. If I suck at Russian DD, but am great at IJN DD, is it broken that they play differently? No it isn't. Yes, some have the idea of the ideal player that branches out into all classes, striving to master them all and getting good at them over time, but that's not some universally binding standard. At the very least this person mastered one class, compared to the hordes that suck universally. And I don't see those adressed. Not that the new way CVs are being played is directly translatable into other ships, given planes handle differently, don't need to care about what islands you can camp behind and which not, about what ships you can overmatch and which not, about which ships might have secondaries, radar, hydro or other stuff, all you care about is the target's maneuverability (which is worthwhile for any class) and AA (absolutely pointless for all other classes). Also deck pen for bombs and rockets, which also no other class gives anything about. A change in camera angle does not make this class any more or less detached from the game. -
Islands of Ice redesign: total garbage

I haven't played high tier cruisers enough to get their impressions on the map. But, interestingly the reception on NA seems to be... Evolution kind of implies something to get better, not worse. -
Yes. PT, AR, DE, CE, IFHE, RPF, PM should work. Otherwise, Minekaze is a poor man's Kamikaze and Kongo works too. Issue is, premiums will be allowed and certain T5 premiums are silly powerful. If they disallow premiums, then still, there's be more and less useful ships, with something like Kongo, König, Minekaze, Nicholas, Furutaka and Emile Bertin being way above the likes of New York, Emerald, Jianwei and Acasta.

As it is, the balance basically is that a CV can run out of planes in which case, yes, it's a secondaries only platform. And you don't need to kill the ship to make it essentially worthless. A deplaned CV is basically mission killed. A CV that lost its entire strike wing to an AA ship is out of combat for a while till it regrouped its aircraft. Heck, even IRL, despite only Shokaku sustaining heavy damage at the Battle of the Coral Sea, Zuikaku too was out of combat for months, due to depletion of the air group. Not that IRL counts for much in an arcade game. -
The real issue is the lack of speed. The rest would be forgivable to me, but the lack of speed, allowing half the cruisers to run you down is just terrible. In Ranked, speed signal on this ship would be a must.

It's best to ignore armament nationality, unless there's some synergy (e.g. Graf Zeppelin buffs her own Iron Blood planes, Edinburgh buffs AP guns, with RN CL guns being good AP guns). Twin Mk5 406 mm is likely best you can get while staying Eagle Union and it still has way more reload and shoots AP. -
Are DD's the area of denial class ?
HaachamaShipping replied to Fat_Maniac's topic in General Discussion
I have my doubts about IJN torpedo line being "most potent". Frankly, the IJN torpedo line is best described as "still playable", but few would ever recommend these ships for anything but fun in randoms. The torps are nice, but basically the rest of the ship pays the price for it and the Asashio is that principle taken to the extreme. If you want actually potent IJN DDs, you basically look at the alt line, which do pretty much all jobs better except scouting. In pretty much 9/10 cases, a Harugumo or Kitakaze is the better DD to have on your team rather than Shimakaze or Yuugumo and for Kagero... well, it does have a very sizeable concealment advantage over Akizuki (700 m vs 400 m on the Kitakaze vs Yuugumo and 600 m on Harugumo vs Shimakaze), but the ship basically is just straight up inferior to Harekaze. Because having ~3.8k less torp damage and 5 knots less speed (still formidable 17k damage and 62 knots at 10 km) is a pretty decent price for exchanging the rather bad IJN 12.7 cm guns for 10 cm ones. Losing 1.8k hp also isn't much of an issue, given the dpm increase gives much more of an edge in any knife fight than the hp increase would. But it basically highlights the usefulness of versatility over having one somewhat powerful asset (which itself has drawbacks, like long reload and torpedo detection range). And for pure area denial, having spammable torps isn't necessarily worse than having hard hitting ones, because the aim is to discourage, not to delete and the constant threat beats the threat every so often. Not to mention, if someone spots for a Kitakaze or any DD with decent guns (IJN alt line just has the best guns for DDs though), smoking up and spamming shells can in itself present an obstacle that larger ships are unwilling to push into, if they lack proper radar support. -
Acasta gets no hydro. DD hydro is only T6+ for RN and KM.

Pretty much. I just want to see how many Giulio owners' day I can ruin with my silver line C. Remember when this ship was seen as trash, before it got like 3 buffs to make it great?
-
Bought a Furutaka just for this. Will give it a try, fall back on Giulio or Minekaze if it fails. But 25 mm armour, good torps, ability to overmatch enemy cruisers are all valid strengths.
-
Certainly not down those leet aiming skillz...
-
Well, not every BB is yamato. On something like Kurfürst, dispersion giveth, dispersion taketh away. also, it still is the hardest to hit DD at T10.

HaachamaShipping replied to Fat_Maniac's topic in General Discussion
Pretty much the best way to play the Germans, I found. They may not be terribly accurate, but they are typically accurate enough and most players don't want to necessarily gamble on the enemy missing them up close. Secondaries add to the no-go zone up close and the armour means getting you out there either involves torping you (hydro) or burning you to the ground, which is slow and only works if you can be set on fire continuously for long periods. Typically not practicable if you have support and aren't heavily outnumbered at a cap. Not that other BBs cannot support close to a cap, given while Amagi and NC don't have the secondaries, they still have guns and you certainly don't want to hang around with an Amagi pointing its ten 41 cm guns at you at 10 km. Just, the Germans typically are the best at it. On the downside, German influence declines rapidly beyond secondary range, while some ships like Yamato or Republique necessitate paying attention to even 26 km away. -
What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
HaachamaShipping replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Today, I noticed I was like 8k exp away from Cleveland (only grinded the line for Helena really), so I decided to get the last exp to get to T8. After all, people say it's good, so, well... Best Murica camo of them all. No silly eagles on my ship. Also bought another Cleveland captain so I don't need to abandon Helena. First game already showed me, this ship is pretty nice. After a few games in my new beauty, played div with clan mates then and I already knew this was going to be a good game after I torped an Asashio for first blood (sure is convenient to have standard torps)... New damage record, new base exp record, first time in over 3k games that I got a Witherer. Also, obviously T8 DDs topping scoreboard in an otherwise T10 game. And they ask whether high tier DDs are playable or T8 MM. -
