    Hood vs Scharnhorst

I have played both ships to some success, knowing somewhat what I'm talking about and it actually still doesn't turn faster than Gneisenau. Just alone because Gneisenau too can pull that and Gneisenau has better acceleration to speed up at the finish of the turn. Outplaying a potato rarely is a good benchmark of performance. I gave valid reasons as to why Gneisenau can beat Scharnhorst and that's not BS. The speed advantage, the secondary suites, the AA, the overmatch mechanics, they are all facts and based upon this facts and personal experience, I gave an opinion. Claiming the Hood can outturn a Gneisenau is basically just based on you pulling it on an enemy that didn't even seriously try. Scharnhorst having better stats similarly doesn't disprove it, because these two ships don't exist in a vacuum fighting 1v1 battles. Same deal with Hood. I mean, if you look at that wall of stats, Nelson must be beating the utter crap out of Gneisenau, but if I were to set up 1v1 battles, pretty much every time the Gneisenau would beat the Nelson.
  2. The ship already has enough armour for that in my experience. The silly thing is the 30 mm deck.

    Hood vs Scharnhorst

No, the only way the Kongo can win is if the Yamato player cannot kill it before it is literally in its face and can outrun the turrets to derp AP into the side. The spotting distances involved mean that the Yamato would need to basically be so utterly garbage to miss the Kongo most of the time in the most accurate BB, while even a non citpen salvo could easily do 10-20k in full pens. After three non-cit salvos or 1 salvo with citadels, the Kongo is dead. Of course if the Yamato fires HE, chances to survive increase drastically, but as said, as soon as the Yamato player has even the most basic clue, he wins, even if it is a unicum Kongo. Just to add to it, a Kongo cannot even devstrike a yamato (except with detonation), as the Kongo has 8 guns with 10k AP potential per shell, while Yamato has over 90k hp. And nothing supports your claim that the average Gneisenau is worse than your average Hood. Literally nothing. And I would prefer if one wouldn't make claims that are misleading, because arguing Hood can easily kill Gneisenau is just a falsehood and paints a false image of the ship. And as this is also a matter of money, people might actually throw out money based on claims that just aren't true. Especially given a turn maneuver by a Hood in front of Gneisenau can easily be countered just by Gneisenau turning into the Hood. It's like the easiest thing ever and leaves the Hood vulnerable. Also, a Hood manages a 180° turn in about 44 seconds (based on empirical testing) so you certainly won't complete a turn before those 26 second guns reloaded. And Hood is not going to outrun Gneisenau turrets.

I mean, yeah... that's the thing. Against non-potato, you'd be dead. And that's a big disclaimer to be made. Like, an HE Yamato would lose a match even against a T5 Kongo. Does that mean Kongo can take on Yamato easily? Hell no, because if that Yamato has just an ounce of intelligence and RNG, it friggin devstrikes that Kongo through the bow.

Prinz Eugen/Hipper - How to make it work?

No, sometimes you die before you can do much at all. But it's not like HE or AP would matter then. Issue is, uptiered Hipper is suffering. Also, the point is not high numbers, it is the ammo choice and basically the damage per shell. You can see, HE is fired more often, but AP brings in the big numbers and is necessary to get there. You could sit in the middle of the map and shoot at things that pass by on the side. Getting the side of a ship doesn't necessitate flanking necessarily. It necessitates looking around for opportunities and taking the necessary preparations. I don't find Cleveland much easier to play, except at T10 maybe, because Cleveland even at T10 contributes a radar, while Hipper does not. and Cleveland's radar value also requires foresight and skill. Where do you need to be to make the most out of it? What can you catch with your radar? Is it maybe even valuable to throw out radar for non-damaging purposes? and with 9 km radar range, that's likely not as easy as getting into a position where your 17 km rifles can reach something. I mean, I didn't say "brainlessly rush a Baltimore." It's like arguing that Kagero for example has issues torpedoing, because what if it meets the Chapayev and gets radared and killed? Yeah, well, happens. But that doesn't mean there's no targets it can beat with torpedoes pretty easily. Hipper/Eugen too can pretty handily murder a Richelieu in a 1v1 and even go up vs the likes of Bismarck and Tirpitz (yes, you might get torped, but you are way better at dodging torps and potentially carry hydro). Similarly, most other cruisers with torps are basically crappier at brawls, as French have too few of them to be much of a threat (if you don't potatoe into them), Russians are typically too short range and a Chapa sowing side is a dead Chapa, Mogami has terrible angles for a brawl. I take 20k AP damage from a short burst in the side over 40k HE and fire damage over the course of minutes. Sometimes it's not about making damage, it's about making an impact. This gets even more amplified with ships like Hindenburg, where you basically get 5k salvos from HE at best, while a good AP broadside is 10-20k (10 k is more at long range), or more if you get cits. And when I go silent for a minute to get into position, then I lose out like 6 salvos of HE, so 30k damage. Fire two devastating AP salvos and as a consequence and you basically made up for it already. Frankly, the ship basically is not worth it with current T8 MM. If you aren't mostly pitted against ships where your armour won't matter, then it's pretty easy to see the appeal of the PE. Hipper/PE are ships that just don't have the dpm and which shouldn't be approached as ships primarily for high damage results. They are balanced to a degree around their armour and torps and basically get the large numbers only when they can get into the situations where they can fire AP and torp ships into the ground and only then they also properly have match impact, pulling their weight to win. HE spamming Prinz Eugen is like the most ignorable T8 cruiser there is. It says a lot that T7 Yorck beats Hipper and Eugen in HE dpm.

Even with no secondary build, they open up at under 7km and their high RoF makes them no joke for prolonged exposure.

Yeah, you don't punish BBs more by basically making a less punishable version of the ships that are most easily punishable. I consider it still a rush if I plan for an ambush around terrain cover to bridge the concealment gap. Also, I'd not rush GK. The secondaries will hurt a lot. Intelligent German cruiser play. Unless you like playing your ship as worse version of the French, you will have to learn when and where to use AP. Typically though, there is no cruiser line with HE ammo that is not forced to use HE at some point to stay relevant, because the caliber is too small and you'd be able to spam AP nonstop reliably, you'd be brokenly OP. The closest to cruisers with heavy AP preference that get away with mostly using AP would likely be Graf Spee and Stalingrad. French did get the reload booster now, so that helps give them a bit more impact.

In JP, it is called that, but her lines and skill are hardly less Chuuni in EN. Especially as she shouts it everytime her skill activates.

So, two lines of long-range HE spammers? The question "Is the ship viable for Ranked/CB?" is kind of not the one that is really worth asking, because answer is no. The proper question would be "What changes would it need to make it viable in Ranked/CB?" and that's where I deem better accuracy and maybe better pen to be the better fix. Giving it 460 mm guns for the 32 mm overmatch just makes it a stealthy Yamato without the citadel issue. Also, at the point where you rush Conqueror, how does Concealment matter? An undetected ship you cannot rush anyway. Lastly... lol, smart Conqueror players... What's next? Smart Tirpitzes?

Passable... I guess. RN CAs are generally all like that, a few being exceptions (Suffolk and Exeter with retofits). Performance-wise though, there's no real reason to run them over other CAs. They got decent torps, I guess, but given they lack on the hp, I have no clue why you'd use any non-retrofit RN CAs over tankier CAs or simply CAs (of which RN has a good few decent ones). I have York and Exeter levelled, but basically just because, not because I expect great things from them. I typically run Leander-class frontline or Cleve/Phoenix/Helena. It's a cute chuuni tho. "MAHOU ARMAGEDDON!!!"

You can still use AP. It works. And they are still more viable than Shima 20 km torpedos.

Prinz Eugen/Hipper - How to make it work?

I play the ship as support cruiser. If I have to solo a target at range, HE is likely the only thing that works, but if you shoot at targets already engaged, whom do you think that enemy BB or cruiser is going to angle against? The Hipper/Eugen or your ally BB? In a brawl, ships that do not maneuver and thus show broadside at some point can be torped. Sometimes it is better to not fire your guns and fall off detection, to catch people by surprise later. Some Amagi is not going to angle in time before your shells arrive. On Eugen, I use a Hindenburg captain with EL. Exactly because of this issue. German AP is flimsy, but powerful. Being more readily able to capitalise on the few opportunities where it works is worth the skill point, imo. Typical successful Hipper games typically look like this in ammo choice: So, spamming HE while I wait, but the real damage is in the AP (and torps if you get to use them).

I'm pretty sure it's more than 3, but anyway, for one Ranked and CB comes to mind, modes with single tier MM where the number of eligible cruisers gets cut down drastically. Also, it depends really on the range where the engagement starts. at range, just kit with long range fire. But I had Conquerors around corners that were at most 8 km away. In either case, I feel quite confident vs Conqueror in Hindenburg, because AP is typically bouncing off and HE hurts, but the thing that hurts up close isn't even the torps, it's the AP salvos in the weak side. For a ship with 82k hp it really hurts when a good AP salvo can remove 17-20k hp and you get almost 3 salvos for every one Conqueror salvo. The return 10-15k or so HE damage can be tanked. And the fewest Conquerors in that situation angle in, because they try to turn away, due to torps. 457 mm AP would likely be more reliable in such a situation, as it just overmatches, potentially citadels and has higher AP damage per shell than Yamato. But that is very situational.

Yeah, but GK/FdG upgrade doesn't even matter against cruisers. Conqueror upgrade actually elevates the gun overmatch from Montana/GK tier to Republique tier, just shy of Yamato tier. It's not competitive because most often you farm BBs at range anyway, but good Conqueror players also shoot cruisers with aP and at that point it might be relevant. Sadly, the better strategy is to use more guns and abuse concealment to shoot unaware broadside, rather than abuse overmatch, which helps you at best when you try put down some charging Hindenburg or something. I'd argue the guns would need an accuracy upgrade or better AP to make it a worthwhile alternative.

The 1/4 pen is like the least of all issues on the RN BB line. At best it allows the freak HE citadel. It's the high alpha and high fire chance combined, with lackluster AP that makes these ships this silly. Just look at IJN BBs. IJN BBs, like all IJN ships, except DDs (which had it once upon a time), have improved HE alpha. It's what makes Zao's HE alpha strike so brutal. Yet, you don'tt typically spam HE in a Nagato or Amagi, despite gaving a whole 6.5k HE alpha. Because AP is better and the fire chance isn't good. Meanwhile look at T4, there before Orion was a thing, Ishizuchi already had silly high HE alpha (and has a better HE dpm than Orion), has an acceptable fire chance and lackluster AP. What happens? You actually can play Ishizuchi as an HE-only ship, it won't be optimal (just like HE only Conqueror is not optimal), but it is viable and absolute cancer for any opponent. On the other hand German BBs get 1/4 pen. Noone really cares about that. Because their HE is basically trash. It's not. 30 mm is not just Hindi. Overmatching 30 mm means you don't need to care at all about what cruiser you shoot, except for Moskva and Stalingrad. Entire midsection of Hindenburg and Zao is 30 mm, the Worcester has 30 mm deck that keeps it alive at times, 457 mm Conqueror, like Yamato and Republique, can just go through that like it is noone's business. The main issue is not lack of overmatch but lack of dpm.

Yes, there are tanks in WoT. Azur Lane? yes, basically all ships on EN are real. Other servers also got Neptunia characters from collab and WoWS paper designs as research projects, which typically are top tier ships that need a silly grind to be unlocked (but are free, unlike certain AL captains and camos). They are Saint Louis (T9 French CA), Ibuki (T9 IJN CA), Neptune (T9 RN CL), Roon (T9 German CA), Monarch (T8 RN BB) and Izumo (T9 IJN BB).

In games with such a mechanic, I typically keep it to one single character (though does that make it polygamy over the multiverse?). And in Kancolle, I don't even ringed one ship, because frankly, my favourite is Arashio and pre-K2, she was too immature and with K2... she is a borderline case that makes me uncomfortable. Not in that I don't like her anymore, the K2 art of the class is awesome, the age progress makes sense. I love their K2s a lot ever since Kasumi got hers and even characters I ignored before like Ooshio really started to grow onto me with the art upgrade (I know some complain about the loss of the hat). But still, just too young. If they would age normally, I'd say in 5 years I'd feel very comfortable and wouldn't hesitate to wait that period, but yeah, they will stay like this forever. Would adopt the class in a heartbeat though. Also, the performance increase is nice and I do like it, even if wallet warriors abuse it, because for me personally, it makes the character I pick more viable and usable. For example, Springfield (Girls Frontline) and Leander (Azur Lane) are both not top tier powerhouses (but pretty decent still), and the stat increases make it less of an opportunity cost to use them over ships with better base statlines. Grind Hard mode. X-1H of a world drops DD blueprints, X-2H drops cruiser blueprints, X-3H drops BB blueprints and X-4H drops CV blueprints. World 1 and 2 drop blue BPs upon defeating the boss and slim chance of purple, World 3 gives also gold. Not that Leander needs gold, unlike Ajax, Leander is a very humble cruiser that is fine with blue and purple. You also got blueprints upon three starring any of these from mission, but that is one time. You get 6 hard mode attempts per day.

Still grinding blueprints for Ajax (and getting her last few levels to 80 in the process), but in my three daily constructions for the event I finally got something nice. Also got Laffey. Running out of ship slots though. Need to buy some soon.

I mean, Gallant has normal DD characteristics, Jervis has improved RN characteristics in acceleration and speed loss in a turn. I still wouldn't write off Gallant though, because for T6, it's basically a more normal Icarus without hydro and the improved maneuverability in exchange for 8 km torp range and speed boost. Also normal smokes. Jervis is T7 too.

Uhm, no? You don't need it. Just because it allows you to pen 32 mm armour with HE doesn't mean it is worth 4 points, when the HE dpm is nothing amazing. Against DDs, it works fine, against larger targets load AP for opportunistics shots, shoot HE into superstructure if you want your fires and damage too, but Z-39 guns are not worth speccing IFHE in over other skills.
