Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
HaachamaShipping replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
I just want a big gun cruiser with torps and IJN aesthetics. -
I recommend it on a sale. The ship is no Scharnhorst. It often will strike people as boring, compared to 20 second guns and torps, so it might not be valued the full price. But it performs. It also is a rare RN BB that really should stick with its AP, even getting USN ricochet angles. Hood short range AA dies fast. When it is dead, the rest of the AA is pretty crap and Hood can get deleted by AP bombers.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
HaachamaShipping replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Thanks. Had a great time slapping a couple Icaruses around. It's a Kurfürst. Not a conqueror. Though, to be fair, you can do some sneaky stuff around islands at times. Got me First Blood in an earlier game on Haven when I blapped a Donskoi that came around a corner 8 km away and later I got to ambush a Zao in the cap. For the most part though, with 15+ km concealment and a DD around, you can just abandon all hopes of disengaging. camo is more for econ bonuses and aesthetics than anything (+4% loldispersion won't make you miss a Kurfürst either). -

Met @DangerousDave2k and @1MajorKoenig today in T10 randoms. Was somewhat embarrassing, because by the time I met Major, my camo had run out, but hey. When you run secondary Kurfürst anyway, can you really pretend to give a damn about concealment? Also got Shinonome after these battles. Good boat. -

Atlanta and Sims have to basically work together hard. Most CAs are below 7 km. Which is better than Kutuzov. Only Moskva gets absultely crap smoke firing detectability at levels almost on par with the stealthiest of BBs. Which basically is British BBs with their topkek detection and obviously Giulio with 10.9 km. I guess you could try play Saipan/Sims/DoY. -

I considered it for other ships, which don't have smoke and thus gain a lot by basically getting a huge smoke cloud. I mean, Shchors in this combo basically is a shorter ranged T7 Kutuzov if it can readily deploy smoke. Exact same gun characteristics except for range. AA is crap though. Still going to be doing better than most T7s. -
Hood's accuracy is not poor. The shells are just slow. When you get used to it, they generally fly true. Hood's main advantage is how hard it is to actually kill. Hood's main weakness is how hard it is to give a proper knockout blow to BBs. You basically got the basics down, focus cruisers and DDs first, so your team can focus down the BBs that are shooting you. Don't brawl, it's not suited for the task. And I don't get why you say it is vulnerable to HE. British BB are vulnerable to HE, because they are typically 25/32 mm armour all over the ship. Hood gets a 51 mm deck, a thick upper belt and only at the extremities and superstructure can be HE penned... like every T7 BB. Don't count on the AA too much. The AA works great if you get targeted at the start by potatoes not knowing what Hood AA is. After the first few HE salvos, you'll have lost all the rocket mounts though and it's basically pointless.

Last week was dreadful too though.

Thanks. It sadly is pretty much the best you can get, the tech tree equivalent Kongo-Minekaze would be decent too, but less great. Greatest counter to it, btw, is a decent Zuihou-AA-specced BB div (Texas comes to mind, but a full on AA specced Kongo or König have a better long-range aura and are otherwise better ships, Kongo especially is more mobile than a Texas and better for defending the fleet), as aircraft are a pain to deal with for both OP premiums, especially countering their concealment advantages. Other than that, good team play.
-
Kamikaze-Giulio Cesare div is basically the recommended setup. People not running it are either plebs who don't have the P2W combo or contrarians who want to be hipsters in some weird counterculture like Emerald div.

Typically, in such divs, we bet on the MM for a 5 DD match, in which we can blob. If not, then not. -

Which is my point. We are talking like a T9 CA pretending to be a T7 BB is somehow powercreep, ignoring that just because it blurrs class lines in some regards (and falling short) is one thing, but a T9 cruiser basically should be as much value as a T9 BB on a team. It just has another role. Not that Kronshtadt even goes all the way. -

Triple Harekaze at least has three well-rounded ships. As long as you don't blob up, it works. -

I run 2-2H 6 times a day. Get at least enough BP to get one purple BP as you get one BP per S-ranking the boss. Even 6 blue BPs are one purple. Triple Sims sounds pretty blergh, as you have three ships that are low damage, good support. You'd want two other ships that are good at abusing your smoke, as Sims really has too good a smoke for its lacluster self to use it selfishly. I can do triple div, if people are up for it, though obviously triple DD div is kinda... -

I mean, you seem to want to think it OP, so... It still is basically moving towards CL. -

I mean, if you want to think that that dpm is good, or that the concealment is good, despite being joint worst in both categories, feel free to. The ship isn't OP. I mean, it's the Khaba of cruisers. It almost is another class of ship, but still fairly within the class it is tagged as. And it is good for certain cases, but in others, it falls flat. Is Khaba OP? -

As said, the main thing through the bow is, if you aim down and strike at the waterline, the shell moves on through the bow and strikes the forward bulkhead below the waterline. From the side, if you hit the waterline, the citadel already is below that and you just bounce off the cit roof. Is my guess. You get outspotted by the USN BBs, by the Jean Bart, by the Lion, you are barely able to leverage anything against Alsace, IJN and German is worse. That is not, "far better than BBs", it's basically a BB in concealment. And if you cannot manage to leverage concealment in randoms, uhm... frankly, that is not an issue with randoms. HE dpm/fires per minute (IFHE adjusted): Seattle: 243k/ 11 fpm Buffalo: 155k/7.7 fpm D. Donskoi: 144k/6.3 fpm Saint Louis: 137k/7.3 fpm Ibuki: 132k/6.8 fpm Kronshtadt: 122k/7 fpm Roon: 122k/6 fpm For comparison: Amagi: 130k/6 fpm Congrats, you match the Roon with HE. Because Roon's not just the worst HE dpm at T9. At least the fire setting qualities aren't complete trash on your ship. Just not good either and in the HE contest, 45 seconds burn time vs 30 seconds does hurt. As does BB accuracy vs cruiser accuracy in actually hitting stuff with your HE. Frankly, Amagi is better at HE slinging than a Kronshtadt (AP is still miles better ammo choice). It's not really much harder to aim at than Yamato cheek. You overestimate the concealment hugely, as stated above. You know it'll be B-65 and there's nothing we can do. -

I played enough Roon to know, that's once in a blue moon MM where all the BBs have guns that bounce off you. A Single T7 Nagato can spoil the fun. -

I do not have the armour model, but unless you aim very low or the roof is overmatchable, no. -

The problem regarding this isn't "Is it better than a typical T9 cruiser in tanking?" 70k hp ensure that. The problem is that when you know where to aim in a BB, you can quickly bring a Kronshtadt down. And while you can kill most other cruisers fast too when you shoot at them, most other cruisers don't rely on hp + belt to keep them alive. The 15 mm section just means, showing broadside in this ship gets you killed faster than you'd think against people who know where to aim and the 25 mm bow means you cannot bowtank either. Typically, cruisers just don't rely on tanking, though 27 mm and 30 mm plating on some can make it viable against select few ships, where it then is rather reliable. But Kronshtadt is anything but reliable armour. -

HaachamaShipping replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
Concealment isn't about not being spotted when shooting, it's about being able to make an approach and being able to disengage. Especially for a cruiser it is vital to beable to disengage and not be forced to continue fighting after the advantage passed to the enemy. Most cruisers have a far easier time going dark again, Kronshtadt meanwhile handles like a battleship in that matter. A battleship with inadequate armour. Because it's a cruiser with a ton of hp and a terrible concealment for a cruiser. Try to play it like a 6th BB, any BB you meet can likely remind you that you are a cruiser and not a BB and that you might reload faster, but your dpm is garbage. Like, Kronshtadt isn't harmless, but as long as a BB doesn't expose its broadside, you can just murder it, while it either bounces off or tries to HE spam you with terrible HE. It is basically what Graf Spee already has at T6. Graf Spee can wreck BBs if they show broadside or if they are close enough for torps, but a 1v1 vs a BB is just terrible, a kiting Nürnberg has more chances to dodge and burn down the BB. Similarly, in a 1v1, a Kronshtadt is basically free damage for a BB, while at least any other cruiser could try to kite or torp. Like Graf Spee, these ships are designed as cruiser killers and that's basically the one and only thing they are really somewhat good at, if they get the broadside. Everything else they are at best passable and against cruisers game mechanics screw them in a 1v1. -

Atlanta works too. Or Shchors/Helena/Boise. I mean, so far, I had games with like 1 cap, 40 k damage from just pewpewing whatever came up (T6 and 7) and got top of the score board with 2.2k base exp. Not like spotting damage gets rewarded, but that's the next best thing, I guess. It won't break any damage records, but pretty play for fun. Would pay for a Hammann or Sims captain though. also it's my first USN DD, only got Loyang so far and my main experience with terrible arcs is Isokaze and Vampire. But after playing the USN cruisers and ships like Varyag, you kind of get used to it. -

HaachamaShipping replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
The reason it's a weakness is that when BB shots come in from the side, the upper belt won't stop them, but once through, in the center, the 30 mm deck might bounce the shells (same as how 30 mm deck armour at T10 just bounces shells), the 15 mm part does not. So if you aim for the belt at the first turret, you either straight up pen the 230 mm or overmatch the 25 mm section and overmatch the citadel roof. Few ships at the tier have this crap a citadel roof. Yes, you can also crap on this ship in other ways as a BB, but having one more isn't exactly of no importance. And your one pixel above the waterline still matters. Fuso and Hood sit at the waterline, German CAs have citadels a pixel above the waterline. They all take citadels pretty often. To actually get any degree of resilience there, you need a citadel significantly below the waterline, like Conqueror or Alaska. -

HaachamaShipping replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
As you can see in your image, if they hit at a slight incline (so, from any greater distance) at the waterline, even at the centre they'll cit, because they pass through the belt, fall a bit, hit 90 mm citadel bulkhead. So, that centre part is not cit-proof. Just nowhere as easy to wreck. Thing is, smaller cruisers eat less cits and better deck armour on cruisers end in less ships that can just lolpen it. A Gneisenau can screw your Kronshtadt over, but will curse a good Roon or Buffalo. And I'm pretty sure high tier CLs aren't anywhere as sluggish as your Kronshtadt. CAs might not be the most agile, but they still can do quite well. Few T9 cruisers get out-dpmed in the HE contest though. Only Neptune is worse, but Neptune has other means to get by. 11 km is within 2 km from 9 km. One of the two numbers is deeply average to bad for a cruiser, the other is basically only for light cruisers and IJN. 2 km radius is a lot and shouldn't be taken lightly, else, why do you think Concealment mod and CE are so important, despite only taking off 1-2 km?
