Huh? What? Ishizuchi: Dirt easy to play. Load HE, screw over people. Load occasional AP for pro Ishizuchi play. Mutsu is a glass cannon, as is Ashitaka, but they got serious gunpower for their tier, especially after Ashitaka's ammo buff. Kii is a decent ship. Basically a solid all-rounder. Musashi is OP. I guess Mikasa only is fun and not very good. Then again, bringing that hp pool to T2 is...- 48 replies

Come on guys, no need to flip your sh*t. Look at it this way. Rank out three times in normal Ranked and with coupon you can get Stalingrad. So it's only fair that with three seasons of Ranked Sprint and a coupon you can get a coal ship. 15k coal and a coupon does buy you a Campbeltown! Almost the same, no? No, but honestly. I didn't expect to get Stalingrad from this mode, but you could at least raise it so we can get Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya or Yubari?

No, you pick ships with good synergy. e.g. for solo battles, Atlanta is pretty normal. In Saipan-Atlanta cancer div though, the ship shines and obviously gets a WR way above what the ship itself is worth. That's not representative of the ship. -

I'd disagree on that count. At T8, there are better BBs overall and tier for tier, it also is nothing special compared to some other BBs. Tirpitz is to Bismarck a ship that takes away flexibility of hydro to get a situational brawling tool. In all other ways, it's a Bismarck, competitive but far from top tier T8 BB (some would even dispute the competitive aspect). It is one of the hardest 45 Euro to justify spending in this game, with ships like Roma at least being unique so far and I guess Gascogne is uninspiring. But even at T8, you get better ships by buying Alabama, Massachusetts or Kii. -

By taking away citadel penetration damage, you basically take away one of the main reasons to fire AP. Look at RN BBs vs other BBs. Or Ishizuchi. Cannot citpen? What's more useful? maybe 20k upfront if the enemy doesn't angle? Or 10k anyway, with two fires and if it's a smaller ship some broken modules? The point of citpen damage is, you [edited]up, you die. It rewards proper positioning. And no, there is no "Ugh, no skill, alll RNG", because any cruiser that can eat citadels like that should be goddamn aware of it. If you steam your Nürnberg around in the open and get citpenned through the front, then you should have been more aware where you steam your fragile cruiser. If you are a BB, getting citpenned basically is wholly up to you messing up. If you got an issue with cruisers getting loldeleted, buff cruiser armour, don't just nerf the AP damage potential, because really, you aren't going to have much more fun when all BBs fire HE and your Nürnberg gets its engine knocked out twice in the open and then gets spammed into the ground. -

Kind of. You can do that, especially at T7 or lower. FdG can't, because the ship is too crap, GK is just so large, you'd get focused down. If the enemy is not surrounded by a ton of allies, GK forces them out easily. Like, yesterday, it wasn't the Salem I citpenned through the bow or the Kitakaze cowering behind the island that got me killed in Kurfürst. It was a bunch of T10 BBs backing them up. Kitakaze in the end couldn't even spam me, because if it popped out, my secondaries spam back. But at T7? If your torp beat game is up to it, Helena or Atlanta is a joke to Gneisenau. You might catch fire, but if they lack proper bakup, it's easy to catch up and kill them. Helena easily can do 4-8k per salvo to a soft-skinned BB, on Germans that decreases sharply and I had salvos for as little as ~700 damage hit my ship. When playing Helena, if you get rushed by a German BB, you either try to run for it, shoot HE at upper bow in hope of some damage or load AP.- 48 replies

It'd be a dream for people who want to play T6 CV without having to fear getting matched vs T8 AA or in double CV game vs Saipan/Kaga divs. The CVs themselves still have small hangar size though and defAA is readily available for cruisers. CVs would be kind of a counter to Leander/Perth, but for example Dallas will still be a pain.

RN BBs from QE on are not well-armoured. if you want Hood's degree of tankiness, German BBs are the better line. Hood basically is the only T6 and up RN BB that tanks with more than just a high (effective) hp pool.

Fiji is a cruiser. Cruisers typically have worse AA, but can get defAA if they aren't RN. Obviously Fiji has worse AA defense without consumable (just like Mogami and Atago can defend themselves better than Edinburgh for that very same reason). Dallas is a T6 cruiser that can shoot planes and scatter the drop (and never has to trade away defAA). Hood cannot scatter. As to why your KGV shoots down less planes... less AA build? Base AA-wise, it is sronger.

HE pens are as healable as AP pens, so? BBs weather HE because it doesn't do a lot of damage. Guess what happens when AP does joke amounts of damage. I don't care if that fire is fully healable. You can put them out or let them burn, you'd lose a repair party to restore it. HE can be so meaningless because it has no impact, reduce the impact AP has and guess where you end up. -

Warspite > QE Gneisenau works still. Just don't try get caught up in snipefest. Thankfully T7 is still fluid (unless you are a lolorado) GK is just a lot of shells. Maybe somewhat accurate for T8 standards, but when you look at what the opposition is, that's not accuracy. I mean, Yamato with 2.1 sigma? Republique with 2.0 sigma? Montana with APR2? Conqueror with RN dispersion? -
As in all other threads were it is brought up. Gneisenau beats Scharnhorst. Scharnhorst might have an easier time with cruisers and DDs, but for BB duty you want the overpen and secondaries worth a damn.

The only reason it is RNG on BBs is because certain citadels are so hard to hit. Thew few cruisers that can get citpenned from any angle aren't RNG. It's typically just that you should avoid getting shot at by BB guns overall. And are we going to nerf pens next, because it's so RNG how they deal 3 times what an overpen does? Let's just make all damage overpen damage. At that point, HE spam reigns supreme, because what is the point of AP if fires just flat out do more? -
Without the rocket AA, it beats the Ashitaka in AA. That's it. There is no T7 BB with worse base AA. Yes, even Nagato is better.

Asashio? Please no. Honestly, I'd say, buy a couple lower tier premiums. Dunno what's in the store currently, but I bet there are fun ships. I would also recommend not a BB, but would say, save the doubloons and try out different tech tree lines to see what kinda ship you want to go for. De Grasse for example is likely far less fun if you hated La Galissoniere.- 48 replies

RN accuracy is better and no, RN actually does have AP and using that AP is not a bad idea, unless you are a KGV, where the low gun caliber often dictates HE (but AP thrown in for good measure gets results). RN BBs at lower tiers also are resilient, but... at no tier I know of, they are faster than Germans. At pretty much all tiers, RN is pretty slow and Germans are among the faster ones. If you want an accurate and fast line, play IJN. What your friend is right in is that RN BBs from T6 on are pretty poorly armoured and basically among the worst in armour, while Germans are basically best armoured. If you want sheer resilience, German is best. If you want a decent mix of that and performance, IJN and late USN. T7 can be specced for AA, but also for secondaries. It's a very good ship. T9 is utter crap though. It's barely an upgrade over Bismarck and in some parts a downgrade. Worst T9 BB. To be fair, with USN CLs and IJN alt line DDs introduced, 50 mm plating really is nice. Yes, German CAs are popular, but taking max damage only by a cruiser line with lackluster to anaemic HE dpm is way preferable to getting wrecked by all cruisers in the match, especially the high dpm ones. Up to Bismarck, the German line stays quite competitive imo, the difference in HE resilience between a Bismarck and Richelieu is pretty big. Also, Yamato is not taking AP well into the side, but against HE, it's about as tanky as Kurfürst. Easiest to get reported for being a useless waste of space. Conqueror spamming HE at long range is the definition of useless RN BB style that is loathed and basically just saves stars, while its WR in ranked is piss poor. -
No, it doesn't work. Hood defAA only applies to the rockets and when they, with their pitiful hp and exposed location, get wrecked, you rely on the 7x2 102 mm DP guns (same as found on the cruisers 5 km base range) and 3 octuple pom-poms (if they survived, 2.5 km base range). Together, they give like 125 dps. Couple HMGs exist, but likely would be dead, not to mention they suck (8.4 dps at 1.2 km). If you spec into AA you might get something (and the 3k+ dps meme AA when rockets work), but I don't recommend going further than AFT to help the rockets matter (together with AA mod 1). That already is more investment in a silly trick than could be justified for competitive play, where improving tankiness kind of helps more to drive the tankiness home. When the rockets do work though and you max out their range, you got something like 2.2 km (I think) aura of assured plane destruction, as if they just flew into Worcester AA.

The main issue I always see, even a 7.5 cm caliber frangible paint shell will leave more than a paint mark when it hits a person. So, no sticking out your head like in the series.
