If you played every other T5 BB, NY teaches nothing new, except pain. Get this thing into T7 matches and prepare for some terrible time. Myogi also can actually hit things at 19 km. Or you know, even at 16 km, which Wyoming cannot reach. 2.0 sigma is no joke if you know how to aim. If you have 12 guns, yes, some will likely hit. Oneshotting cruisers that are easier to citadel than overpen also is hardly an achievement. Point is, the New Mexico only has a lot of guns, not accurate guns. Also, your own stats show, New Mexico is one of your mid-tier BBs with lowest hit rate. Also, Großer Kurfürst only has accurate guns if you never played another T10 BB.

The worst fault of the New York is not that this ship is 21 knots fast, but that you cannot effectively angle against people who have an idea of how armour works and ever looked at the armour profile of this thing. Ship is as far from "sturdy" as you could get in a T5 BB. Unless you broadside in your OR. That'd be Colorado, because New Mex doesn't overmatch anything. At times this ship is even better off loading the HE, if it has to deal with things like angled Scharnhorst/Gneisenau, which you just cannot afford to leave alive to come into close range of your ship (though it's hard to prevent it against a good player). Bayern outclasses this thing in survivability so hard. Turtleback, proper deck plating, 30 mm lower bow... Of USN BBs? Yeah. But compared to rest at T7. Yeah, no. Thankfully it doesn't need the range as much. With ARP 1 and occasional spotter plane, it's playable, but still it's just passable range, not good range. Even Gneisenau has more range, although it has little need for it. Bog standard base dispersion and 1.5 sigma is not crazy accurate. Neither on paper nor in practice. If NM hits things more often then only because it has more shells. Otherwise, there is no really outstanding accuracy inbetween SC and Colo. New Mexico can't even win an accuracy contest against Fuso convincingly, all this ship outshines in terms of gunpower is the Dunkerque. And only because Dunkerque was given only 8 guns with 1.7 sigma and lulzy high shell velocity. Maybe PEF. The only thing on New Mexico I would ever call good (apart from torp belt) are the concealment and the gun angles. Other than that, New Mexico is only an upgrade over New York due to getting 25 mm everywhere, not 19 mm extremities and deck. Still hurts as all hell against T6. New York and New Mexico frankly suck even fully upgraded. New York certainly does. Wyoming only passes because of gun count at T4, Colorado only because it hits hard.

Even without, NY is a better ship, imo. But it isn't much of a saving grace to be second worst.
-
Bretagne vs New York/Texas... it has less hp (it has T4 grade HP), about as bad armour, has the same amount but smaller guns (and since the buff to NY, you got not even much better reload to boast), the secondaries are better, but they aren't good for T5 and T5 secondaries in general are a questionable thing (and believe me, I ran secondary Iron Duke), the speed is exactly the same, the AA is... overhyped, imo. No, I don't see how this thing works and NY doesn't. NY got buffed repair party now, but even before that, I valued NY more than Bretagne. I don't like running a div just so my personal suffering has a purpose. And potentially paying money so I can do that. If I want to run cancer divs with AA BB, Gneisenau is free (and can be matched with Saipan or Kaga). Kii costs, but is at least just a slightly worse version of an excellent BB in all other aspects (to be matched with Enterprise, Shoukaku or GZ to piss people off). The main issue imo is, T4/5 can be dodged by everyone. T6/7 your AA could work against dumb CVs, but given what you are up against, your AA may not survive and in general it'll be suffering.

Played one battle yesterday night for Warspite mission to get one destroyed ribbon (which is easy). Won on 3 stars, cause half the team died in the most stupid ways, but getting to the extraction point in time is not that hard and if everyone's dead, you easily make up 50%. Wouldn't play it for 5 stars or anything though. But I never would. Though, with no CVs anymore, I guess playing CV yourself would become even easier. -
Yeah, but... When no CV is around, you are the worst T5 BB except Bretagne. Autodropping CVs can be dodged in most BBs, Manual dropping BBs could drop Texas from outside her AA range. Speccing a König for AA is likely paying off more, because the AA is respectable, not as easily nuked by the next Brit BB or every cruiser that spams HE and apart from that you still got a better BB in the BB role. Heck, even as air area denial ship, you likely are better off, because you can move around more and are more resilient.

New York indeed is a ship that has been powercreeped hard. Get engine upgrade asap, because you need it. Get used to 21 knots, because that won't get better. New York at least now got a decent reload, instead of the old which was a joke. Imo, play the ship as support for a friendly, so you can use your guns, which are the hardest hitting... when they hit. Learn to endure, 21 knots is a staple till T7. T6 New Mexico is barely better. It will no longer get overmatched by everyone, only by most and I didn't like it much too. Colorado is pretty nice though, because you finally get 16 inch guns that can hurt angled battleships and make them regret looking down on you. When you reach NC though, I guess that's the promised land after all of this, with Iowa and Montana following. That's why you put up with New York. Meanwhile Texas... doesn't even have anything to move on to.

Good DD players - Asashio - yes or no?
HaachamaShipping replied to Zen71_sniper's topic in Destroyers
If you can click battle this often despite getting murdered with this little to show for it, of course you can. -
Just to add to that, use ctrl to free up the mouse cursor and click on the planes you want to see die first (if they are within AA range, which can be viewed in ship stats in port by hovering over the AA guns or by pressing H in battle), as it gives a 30% boost to your AA against that squad (more if you have Manual Fire Control for AA). As for turning, it really depends on ship and AA rating, imo. Low tiers, at T4 and T5, CVs can only autodrop, so they are very predictable and turning into the drop as soon as you see it is likely going to end up in a dodge. At higher tiers, where carriers can manually adjust the drop, it gets nasty though and they can just wreck you if they get a proper drop off. Here, you really need the AA support if you don't have enough AA on your own, as no amount of turning will save you if the enemy CV is skilled. IJN BBs which you are going for have notoriously bad AA (with one exception in the premium BB Kii). IJN AA (like RL) is mostly one type of long range gun (typically Type 89 12.7 cm guns with 5 km base range) and a load of crappy small caliber AA (the notorious Type 95 25 mm AA mount, which ingame has about as crap damage output as IRL. It has a nice 3.1 km base range though, so on AA builds, IJN short range kicks in before USN 20 mm Oerlikons with their 2 km or so base range). This will mostly just be effective against CVs that are of tiers lower than your BB and stupid enough to spend unnecessary time within your AA bubble unless you really go all out on AA skills (which is typically not recommended). Against less skilled CVs and if your AA is up for it though, you can turn into planes when they drop, but if you see them coming from a good few km away, you could also try move away from the planes. I personally find this a decent approach either in low tiers, where the planes are slow and ships like Kongou can stall a drop from a T4 or T5 CV for quite a bit, turning in when the planes actually arrive, but also in ships like aforementioned Kii or in Gneisenau, where the AA is pretty solid, the ship is fast and the extra time they need to line up a drop depletes the squad due to the heavy AA. Also, as CVs often go for a cross-drop, if it cannot be avoided, focus fire on one squad, turn into the other and hope the AA deplestes the squad you focused on. This allows you to ideally dodge the full squad, while only getting hit by what was left over of the other. Lastly, against T4, T5 CVs and CVs of minimal skill above T5 (those where you notice they do not practice accurate manual drop), something like smoke will save you, as autodrop requires locking onto a target. Manual drop does not. If you are in a battle against a CV T6+ and they show that they have an actual clue of what they are doing, don't rely on smoke to save you, because the CV will just drop a spread across the smoke and kill you in it, if not worse (it's even possible at times to manually drop a DD in smoke with dive bombers, if you know where the DD is, based on for example gun tracer. I got kills with that and I'm by far no stellar CV player). In general, it is not a good idea to sit in smoke, as everything with torpedoes usually starts torping into smokes if they see a smoke cloud. If you need to sit in smoke, be aware that there might be torps and try to position yourself inside the smoke in a way that makes you best positioned to dodge torps from the direction you expect them most from. Also, don't sit still in smokes. People can be quite good at shooting things in smoke. As you want to go up the IJN BB line, you will sooner or later find that you yourself will need to practice using the spotter plane with its weird view, but it really helps kill things that you cannot see and really, as with CVs, good players do not necessarily need to see your ship to kill you, if they just have a very good idea of where you are (based on smoke cloud or gun tracer).

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"

I wonder, if the alt line will be support-focused, will WG actually get off their [edited]and finally reward support duties or will these ships just be the rarest of the rare to see in battle, cause their economy will be terrible? -

If I can't do my part in a T10, it's my fault, not my teams. If my team is sucking and looking for a scapegoat, it will blame me, whether I'm T8 or T10. Played a game with Atago last night to test it, got ping-spammed and raged at by a friendly Yamato for being on my side of the map, not shooting at things on the other side of the map spotted by the Shima there. And no, we weren't out of targets on our side. No, I say it sucks when it is very easy to be outplayed and relies more on enemies to mess up than on you to do well. Something like pre-buff New York or Dunkerque for example are not good ships by any stretch of the imagination. You can do well in them, if the enemy lets you, but these ships sure are nowhere close to competitive. And that isn't a matter of playstyle. If you find a person that is good at playing these ships and match them against people good at playing one of their stronger peers, it will lose likely 9 times out of 10. Against other types of ships they aren't really any better either. And in matches they will pretty much fail where others could have succeeded. There is no reason to try excuse power inbalances between ships with "they just don't fit your playstyle". Hindenburg also isn't a floating piece of crap. So you discovering that the ship can perform is as if I was going to exclaim how awesome Yamato is, you only need to be able to play it, so certainly less good ships also just need to find their playstyle. Yeah, no. Just because Yamato performs doesn't mean others do. And now for a different question... Do you even goddamn own a Duca?

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
HaachamaShipping replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Did you citpen the crap out of that Fiji, or how did you get that AP damage? Meanwhile, I had nothing special. Just played some games in Colorado, because grinding it and need that 50k captain exp, so why not. I guess people really get pissed about those 21 knots and it kinda is susceptible to IFHE spam, but I must say, after NY and NM, having those 16 inch guns... truely it's one of the Big 7. Very much looking forward to NC, but finally found a USN BB that actually is an enjoyable experience. As said, nothing special, only solid performance. I certainly thought this would be more painful. -
Honestly, the main thing I think friends could provide, apart from divisions, is feedback on gameplay and clans with more experienced players can teach new people a good few things they might not now. So, apart from fun, it's also recommended for practical reasons.

Yeah, I am hoping to not get this piece of crap. My condolences to you though. Atago with new dispersion is really a sweet ship indeed. Tirpitz I'd personally not play as I prefer Bismarck's hydro. And yeah, MM is better. -

May I interest you in Sims and Hammann? -
As Verblonde said, play other classes. As a weeb, shouldn't be too hard to play the other IJN ships too. More than just learning what others can do, it also helps learning what others cannot do, thus overall giving you in time a better understanding of what you can and cannot afford to do. Especially for a Yamato, which is the T10 BB that punishes mistakes the most, it is good to have a decent grasp on the game and be aware of what you can get away with and what will get you killed fast.

Firstly, stats are objective, fun not. If people ask me for a recommendation, I go by what has a solid performance, thus, what has a higher chance to be well-received, with some indicators of playstyle. I'm not going to recommend a ship on the off-chance they just like the looks or such. Nor is it my place to tell others that they are wrong about the stats, just cause of my subjective sense of enjoyment and aesthetics, as someone did when they quoted me stating they disagreed strongly on my evaluation that the Abruzzi is a lacking ship that gets outclassed by T7 cruiser peers in performance. Just to tell me two posts later that my analysis of stats wasn't wrong, but it is fun. Personally, I bought ships for fun. Heck, I bought Aosta for fun, it is fun, but at T6 it also is still decent, not to mention it actually has better AP performance than Abruzzi for whatever weird reason. But I'm not spending money on a bunch of pixels just cause they look cool or because WG managed to get the model of a historic ship somewhat right. Same reason I don't buy Asashio, although Asashio was one of the ships I hoped to implemented ever since I started this game over 3 years ago. Secondly, you stated you dropped down in teams to not need to rely on T10 teams. If Massachusetts gets thrown into T10 matches anyway, how is it really any different than playing a T9 or T10 ship? Because as great as the ship may be, you aren't going to tell me that Massachusetts is better able to deal with T10 than a Montana or Yamato or Republique, are you?

The Azuma (The Poor Man's Stalingrad)
HaachamaShipping replied to dasCKD's topic in General Discussion
Well, if you want to compare it to Zao, I do wonder why it cannot get the torps. Which is what I think most people would accept as trade-off for not having radar, as just like we associate high-tier Soviet and USN cruisers to carry radar, we associate IJN cruisers with having proper long-range torps. But it doesn't have any. -

If this system is still in place, then it is prone to failing. In which case, no need to assume it fixes the issue. -
The Azuma (The Poor Man's Stalingrad)
HaachamaShipping replied to dasCKD's topic in General Discussion
There is no such thing as an IJN cruiser slot or Soviet cruiser slot. There are cruiser slots and in mirror MM, a T10 cruiser gets matched vs a T10 cruiser. And if you get a team full of Azumas, Zaos and Hindenburgs, there is no reason the enemy doesn't just get Worcesters, Moskvas and Stalingrads instead. Just like if you cue up in a Khaba and you are the sole DD, there is no excuse for being hard-pressed to contest a cap against DD-like DDs, worst case Z-52. So, yes, having no radar is a factor to be taken into consideration, or rather, others having radar over her. -
