    Free XP as a Currency.

Frankly, after playing pretty much all other cruiser line low tiers and Phoenix, I see absolutely 0 reason to play Omaha again (or to have played it in the first place). And it's only thriftiness that kept me from free exping to Pensacola. Similarly, unless its your first BB line, no point in French BBs below Normandie or in ships like Weymouth, Caledon and Danae.

Just pointing out what they lauded as one fun aspect of IJN CV gameplay. You frankly can't close the skill gap. You can only restrict match influence. A unicum Yamato will also have an insane skill gap over a potato one, but way less match influence. But flak and dps are already closer t each other than before. It's why we are where we are now. Because my Mino mid-range for example went from 1k dps 2k burst to 1.5k dps and 1.8k burst. It now doesn't even matter if you fly into the burst. You almost eat as much damage anyway and if you eat one you just die a bit faster. But that should be adressed by lowering values across the board and giving ways players can take actions to increase it in the match with actions. Sector-switching for example. If sector switching was like 200%/10%, you could get by with a Mino having 750 dps if they manage that sector well, while if they mess up or get outfeinted, the CV can still win.

Only because AP bombs don't do much on DDs. Otherwise I'd honestly use those. I don't see it narrowing ever on my Ryuujou, but I guess I can try. They didn't blob in the old RTS CV system, when blobbing would have been effective, I doubt they'd do it now once people calm down and return to derping around. It was considered a feature that Hakuryu can stealth torp. That range was intentional. Frankly, I thought about how to balance AA long and hard yesterday evening after derping around a bit more on both sides of the CV gameplay and I'm of the opinion that AA cannot be balanced as long as there are not more options for targets. The main issues are when creating this system: CVs need a way to mitigate AA and even get something done vs heavy AA ships Surface ships need a way to still be effective vs planes and not just passive targets This system must be easy enough that surface ships are not overloaded with AA duty while still having to fight the regular battle Currently, there is only one single mechanic that allows surface ships to do something with their AA and that is sector switching. Imo, the proper response would thus be to increase the effect of this mechanic, so that correct sector management makes the difference. It already does make one, I know, but I'm mostly thinking that if everyone had a bit lower dps, but a much higher multiplier on the sector, then it'd actually become a competition of skill of CV vs target, attack angle selection vs sector reinforcement selection, where it can go both ways and neither does the target feel helpless (unless they are in some ship with truely garbage AA, where they deserve it typically for balance. e.g. Musashi) nor does the CV feel at the mercy of dps that is pretty much no skill required. Then it would need the proper balance between complexity of the system so a target ship can handle it without utterly compromising the rest of its play. After all, it's fine if the system favours aircraft vs distracted target or targets distracted by aircraft getting crippled by other ships, but it shouldn't become a game like I had pre-hotfix where I basically have to dodge aircraft and shred aircraft for almost the entire match duration while getting nothing done because the CVs spot me and threaten to delete me. But as it is now, neither dps nor flak burst can ever be balanced, because either the target has no way of ever handling a good cV or it just shreds everyone equally with no skill input, because, well, apart from clicking a sector, WG gives few options.
  4. Imo, Harekaze is slightly on the overperforming side ever since the pen buff. Before that she was imo perfectly balanced. Now she's pretty brutal. Only reason it's not OP is because the newfound firepower is kept in check by the general limitations to her ability to fire in the open, but well... Also, Harekaze is imo strictly better than Kagero. Though that says more about Kagero than about the Harekaze.

I know I'm a terrible CV player, but are IJN rockets actually worth a damn? Because honestly, I never got a fire with them, I do minimal damage even on DDs and I had more success torping DDs prior to the hotfix than using those rockets for like 768 damage or so. Now, I just don't see much reason to hunt any DD except maybe lone Kagero that has no AA to disturb the aiming process. I wish they'd undo that aiming change, because I basically just resorted to spamming unaimed torps with Ryuujou at times, because unless your target just has no AA, the torps aren't good for anything else. AP DBs are the best there is...

A more effective way to burn fuel for exp is the long-duration commission self-training or so. Sends away 6 ships for a good few hours to collect a ton of exp. Also, yeah, Leander works with any cruiser setup, given she buffs cruiser firepower. I still use her as my best cruiser in my best fleet, together with her sisters Ajax and Achilles. No, but worst case, you can craft T2 BPs from T1s.

From the Scharnhorst to the Gneisenau

It also affects torps and secondaries. And I take it over 6 seconds on damage control or 4.5 seconds off a 180° turret traverse.

From the Scharnhorst to the Gneisenau

I'd replace High Alert with Adrenaline Rush, tbh. AR is just too damn powerful to skip on a ship that does not need to skip it and especially on an aggressive ship like Gneisenau.

For fleet, I'd recommend sticking to CLs. They are basically universalists that excel at everything. DDs sacrifice tankiness for evasion and firepower for torp power and are cheaper, CAs are tankier, but less evasive and have pretty bad dps, due to their reload. DDs also fire 360°, CLs have generous forward angle, cAs are narrow forward angles. Additionally, most CLs are pretty usable. Though my personal top recommendation would be Leander, as she's easily obtainable as soon as you leave the first world or so, Leander has useful buff skill, decent base stats, a good retrofit (which is cheap) that adds to these stats and adds a useful skill (smokescreen). Leander also will be useful still later on, as she has lower upkeep than some of the top picks, so when you move on to stronger ships, you might still keep using Leander to fill spots or in a budget setup for farming. As a bonus, Leander fits well into RN fleet setups if you ever get QE. Also she's cute.

No, there is no trade. But when you retire ships of any rarity that is not normal, you get Medals of Honour which you can exchange for ships in exchange. Don't retire very rare ships though, unless you have enough to fully limit break them (so, one original + 4 dupes and an extra one if the ship has a retrofit). Otherwise you have to use bulins, which are basically universal sacrificial material.

If I could I'd trade you a Curacoa for it if you want. But she's not supposed to be this rare.

    The Issue with AA

They do block AA. But you need to fly low enough to not have line of sight. e.g. torp attack sequence will get you low enough.

    IJN vs US CVs

Good to see they put in at least the effort to recycle and restructure voice lines to make it work.

I now got every new ship except Tai Yuan and Curlew. Where the hell is Curlew? Also, I noticed Curacoa has no torps but two AA guns. I wonder, how good is that AA barge?

Well, not everything kills it fast before it drops ordnance and T7 and below got nerfed into the ground.

If Mino and Worcester rule atm it's because they can actually kill planes fast. It seems Mino is the new T10 DD meta. But really, Mino is far from OP, not with that kind of survivability.

    Nelson needs an AA buff

Depending on positioning, islands are a death trap, as AA shoots not through islands. The map border is an additional 10 sec of flight. No prob for new CVs. On the other hand, you can bet that there's no Mino or Worcester at the map border swatting down planes. Overall, I'd learn how to play ships, not complain.

Giulio Cesare to be changed to T6.

    Nelson needs an AA buff

Please buff my Musashi AA too while you are at it. It's got garbage AA and has no chance against CV. I'm too dumb to understand the concept of ships having weaknesses to make up for being strong elsewhere and fail to grasp that Musashi is balanced around this in exchange for being basically OP against other ships. </sarcasm>

Take your fingers off the Keyboard WG!

Frankly, I have a lot of issues with the recent events, but in this matter, I have to ask, what is worse? Leaving incredibly OP premiums to wreck havoc forever or undermining consumer confidence in premium ships? From a WG PoV, up till now, it was obviously easier to let players suffer the consequences and pretend nothing was wrong. Now however GC is likely the first of a whole row of ships that might get changed. People who complain about the refund options might have a point, but the others? What are you complaining about? People complain about WG having not done anything in years and not having done anything about other ships. So, just because for now Belfast and Kamikaze still exist they aren't supposed to touch Giulio as a first test? Or because they did nothing over the course of years, they shouldn't do anything to it? And yes, it will be a hit to the consumer's confidence in WG products, but is this the player base's problems? First of all, it's WG's problem. They have to try strive for how to restore the trust. They have to make sure GC doesn't end up sucking to the point people feel utterly betrayed. But it finally is an admission by WG that they f-ed up the balance and it is finally them taking the step to take over the burden and the damage, not poor T5 and T4 lads getting roflstomped by Giulios (and hopefully also soon no longer by Kamikazes). WG won't get a "Well done" for being years late, but they should at least not get flak for actually fixing things. You can give them crap for refunding in doubloons though. But most people seem to rather [edited] about other aspects of the GC retiering. What did you expect of a Hotfix a week after CV rework? That after months of testing totally did not show CVs were able to ignore AA. And no, I'm not trying to defend all their actions. I honestly contemplated quitting when CV rework hit, Alaska got postponed (while Irian got released), Azuma nerfed to crap, VU got retiered with much less of a reason than GC, Ranked became retarded AR mode, CE got nerfed to make shipslike Neptune even more of a pain to play, ... There's a lot to criticise in recent events. But having WG finally fix some premiums is definitely not what has me bothered. and lets be real, if this goes through, even if they refund only in doubloons people will likely not sue, people will be pissed, but things will go on afterwards, but with a way more wary attitude among customers. And while I'd hate to lose out, customers thinking twice about premiums and WG thinking twice on whether they want to sell a ship they later might rebalance for a lot of community outcry is not necessarily bad for the game. If anything it should help trash the business model of selling the occasional OP ship that everyone gets before it gets taken out of shop and never aressed. Or Christmas containers. All practices that are questionable and kind of unhealthy...

WG what have you done to AA flak burst values?

I honestly expect 8.0.2 next week. The issue after all is not ship-specific, it affects far too many ships. So, for now I just have my laughs and wait what they do next and what to laugh at next "fix". Meanwhile...
