It's tankiest T6 cruiser, but that's still neglecting that T6 cruisers otherwise are almost all one-shottable. It's basically like saying Z-39 is tankiest T7 DD, thus it compares to a T8 Chapayev, cause they both have similar gun caliber. Needless to say, there's a world of difference between the two.

Guess it depends. In bomb boat challenge, I'd agree, but typically, when multiple arrive, they come on different flanks or mid and then a flank BB won't hit more than one anyway. Then I find the IJN gun maybe more convenient. Not to mention, you can cover one flank/mid with vanguard anyway. tbh tho... I'll just slap on my BBs secondary guns that are nation-appropriate... -
Honestly, I mind less if they fail at spotting and think the main issue if they let you get flanked. Neptune even before getting concealment below radar range is quite good at ambushing DDs and can 1v1 cruisers (except Kronshtadt). If you however get flanked by the big guns, you die.

Wouldn't IJN 155 triples work quite well too? Given their shot pattern, they should be better at stopping bomb boats that come at the BB directly. -

Mogami 203 is something noone should ever seriously take. Mogami 155 is what Mogami is balanced around. Atago has a repair party, 41 mm deck, better hp pool, great concealment, 8 long range torps per side that it can launch from stealth, higher speed, better accuracy, better fire chance, higher HE alpha. Does one need to go on about the strengths of the IJN premium cruiser?

Well, they can kill damaged boats and maybe boats with a large level disparity. also, these guns add AA. But yeah, if you want bomb boat stoppers, you're better off with using RN BB or Sakura BB. -
Fara vs WG Lead Designer on CV rework
HaachamaShipping replied to RUSSIANBlAS's topic in General Discussion
I do kind of agree with you there, but I find two issues with WGs logic there: Consumable usage with the DoT nerfs has become the least impactful skill gap there is. Right plane choice, knowing how to conduct strikes without any aid by the system (no autodrop, no torp indicator), knowing how to dodge flak, knowing what to attack, knowing when to just spot are all vastly more important skills and imo, the skill gap there is far from closed, in some areas it widened (especially in how easy it is to set up proper attacks). Arguing over consumable usage as skill gap lessening is kind of a side-show to the s**tfest the rest of the class balance is. WG argues this will make the class less of a hardcore niche class. But to me, this is not why it's a hardcore niche class. I might be wrong, but based on my own experience and CV numbers I encounter, the main reason this seems to become hardcore niche again is because WG has no idea how to get plane-surface target interaction right in a way so that it is a fair and balanced interaction. Mostly, because as long as most of the AA is automated, there can be no such interaction. As long as it's like this, either the CV just murders you or you murder the planes, but no real skill is involved, except maneuvering to not die while the AA melts planes. I personally think that if for example the sector system was refined to be a more significant system that when used correctly makes the proper difference and thus allows skill from both sides to count, that would alleviate a good part of the issues on how to balance CVs. As is, we went from CVs murdering everything to everything murdering planes, which might be the less impactful imbalance (3 classes can play the game normally, while one suffers), but it's likely going to make CVs unpopular again down the line. I certainly came to dislike CV play just for basically having to choose what half-strength squad to use in my Ryuujou after 5 minutes of game time, because basically everything kills the planes now regardless of what I do. I'm basically playing CVs these days when I want to give it another go and find what I'm doing wrong, but I'm pretty sure that as is, sooner or later I'll give up when I just silently acknowledge that it's not worth the time and effort. -
Whatever floats your boat. Given I have a captain that already was trained for Gneisenau... it's not like I need to train a new captain. And all the points why I played Gneisenau over Scharnhorst in the past remain, which means Scharnhorst is as attractive to me now as it was in 0.7.9. If you like Scharnhorst, that's fine, but there's no reason to create a ton of drama about Gneisenau being a worse ship now than Scharnhorst. Gneisenau basically just lost one of its more niche uses.

Pretty much all of the subs are a case of this. -
Gneisenau is more than a Scharnhorst with AA. So there's no reason to go for Scharnhorst just because the AA got nerfed. Graf Spee is a cruiser. Graf Spee has crappy armour, Scharnhorst is best armoured T7 BB. There's worlds of difference. Also, the Graf Spee guns are slightly better as a gun. Scharnhorst just has 3 more guns.

AA Aura calculations - How fast are planes in game?
HaachamaShipping replied to Admiral_H_Nelson's topic in General Discussion
At T6 with Ryuujou, I have that issue mostly only with torpedo bombers due to long aim time, but dive bombers can turn within the mid range of a PEF and attack again in my experience. -
+5% free exp? Did they miss a 0? Or is that just a joke?

It's why I personally prefer Gneisenau over Scharnhorst. Scharnhorst is not bad and it is miles better in ops, but in BB vs BB fights, the Gneisenau is the better ship. Overall though, the approach of how to deal with BBs is the same. Bait shots on the angled belt and rush them down. The only point these two eat massive damage from when shot at from the front is the tip of the nose (you can use the in-port armour viewer to see it). Try to not get hit there and you are fine. Unlike Colorado or KGV themselves, the German armour only has that weakpojnt and can bounce Musashi shells everywhere else (except superstructure), while a Colorado would get overmatched everywhere. Thus, to play Gneisenau or Scharnhorst successfully, you need to know when you can be aggressive and how to maneuver the ship to get shot at the spots where it bounces. As a bonus though, the two are likely some of the best T7s in a T9 match, because they don't just get crapped on. Also, they burn like all other T7s, as the fire change coefficient is the same for all ships of a tier. Only reason it might burn more is if you don't run FP (because secondary/AA build) while you do run it on other ships.

And you can repair 40% of these pens. Not 50% like normal or 60% like RN, but 40%! -
If you mean how a Scharnhorst reacts to HE spam, that'd be same as Gneisenau. Same armour model. If you mean Scharnhorst spamming HE, then she performs about as crap as the worse T7 CAs. It'd be comparable to a NO. Scharnhorst has 86.4k HE dpm, which pales compared to RN BBs like KGV (146.4k) or Nelson (124.2k) and IJN like Nagato (104k) and Ashitaka (130k) (though obviously Nelson, Nagato and Ashitaka don't need to spam HE much). Even Colorado is better at 91.2k (but has usually little need for HE) and the only BBs that are worse at spamming HE at T7 are Hood (84.8k) and Gneisenau (61k). In terms of fire-setting, you also compare pretty much to a CA or IJN BBs. Colorado edges you out a bit, RN BBs laugh at you.

It works on Z23, as it works on all DDs. But Z1 is likely a better buffer for a pure Z fleet. -
Scharnhorst got hardly better AA. It got 2x2 more 37 mm guns on mid range and a long range that is weaker and has less range. If AA was all you wanted out of Gneisenau, Scharnhorst won't give you that either. Gneisenau still features the way better secondary build though.

Wyoming can deliver 12 gun salvos and isn't considered OP. And being able to turn swiftly basically mitigates torp risks. It doesn't mitigate anything when you play against people who actually know how to aim and where to shoot. An Ishizuchi for example, if it doesn't broadside and eat 4 citadels like in the clip, would just load HE and then proceed to just utterly devastate the VU regardless of angling. If the original T4 version had been nerfed in its concealment and armour values, it would've made a decent T4. Now it makes a crappy T5. One that is even more outclassed vs T6 and T7 than the usual T5. -

Emergency Evasion is a skill you can find on most RN DDs. The whole C-class brings it. Pretty sure Fortune has it too. I'd guess the better skill to look at is Artillery Command - Destroyer. Stat-wise, doesn't look bad either, though for DDs you'd likely use others (in RN, Fortune and Javelin got retrofits that make them better for when you actually want to use them, EU got better options by just running Fletchers, Sakura will likely prioritise a torp boost skill and other than that, An Shan-class synergises with itself). -
I'd go PT, LS, SE, CE, IFHE, BFT, AR in that order. First 14 points are best like that, BFT can be switched for DE if you prefer fires over raw damage.

What's the point of this ship vs free Baltimore? Not really asking for a better Baltimore, but I don't see the fair trade even. Like, a few hundred metres better conceal for a lot less hp and no SHAP? Uhm, why? Thus it barely opens up new play options, imo.
