I mean, 6 rapid firing guns in a broadside with noone having any great fire resistance, noone having great fire mitigation skills and everyone having slow af shells. St. Louis tried to shoot me, but hardly hit, because rainbow arcs. Given a DD has no cit, Clemson basically has great firepower on an agile platform with the only issue being DD hp pool. But hey, you get USN smoke and torps. Also, I'm not even sure that Orion did more damage. In a T3/4 match, there is not that much damage to go around with fires. and 97k is pretty high already. Doubt it's far off from High Caliber or Confederate at this tier, neither of which the Orion has.

Else, Curacoa and Curlew aren't bad (character-wise, stat-wise they are AA barges which you'd likely not use in that role as soon as you level Sirius), Edinburgh I doubt is to your liking (though if she is, nothing wrong with that). Sheffield seems not that bad, though while she isn't Ajax, I'm pessimistic about you liking her. RN CAs aren't that terrible either, London seems ok, York and Exeter aren't that terrible, Kent is basically the IDW of this game tho. Otherwise, there's also other nation's cruisers, like Clevedad, Helena, Atlanta, Quincy, Prinz Eugen, Avrora, Takao, Atago, Myoko, Ashigara, Furutaka, Naka... And that's just cruisers (and only some of them). Nothing wrong with BBs/CCs/CVs like Hood, Amagi, North Carolina, one day Essex and Dunkerque... She has a decent retrofit though. Not character-wise. As Graf Spee notes, her character is rotten as ever, but that damage vs heavy cruisers...

Scharnhorst is very much skill dependant, because of the guns. Correct positioning, target selection and ammunition choice pay off. It's a decent to good ship and certainly can be a fun ship, even if personally I prefer the Gneisenau to it. But in a way that makes it a good premium, interesting, competitive, not OP. Be aware that you got no idea what you are talking about. Same dispersion formula on both ships, but 2.0 sigma on Scharnhorst, 1.8 on Bismarck.

Though, when will the day come when we'll actually get a skin for her? Take your white and blue boxes, make them into purple boxes (5:1 conversion rate) and open these. Typically drops blue and purple equips. Also, events and gold boxes can give gold equips. If you got too many coins, go buy them in Shiranui's shop. That shop often has offers for useful things. See, Leander is none of that. In general, I guess you could look through cruisers. Light cruisers come with added benefit of likely being the most universal ship type to use.

Frankly, it depends for me. Currently, CV presence more than anything (though with current air detection... uhm... would need to actually test, but no time). Without CV presence, the best approach to a game to me is to just go towards cap, reverse into it with clear exit plan and try cap, spot and such. You are right, you shouldn't go gung-ho from the start, but I think that's basically DD gameplay for all DDs. Harekaze just got more options to move in for an early kill if necessary. When top tier, you can also be a good bit more aggressive, because your hp isn't that terrible in contrast, radar cruisers are rarer and thus you have a great deal of freedom in what to engage and what not to.

Harekaze lacks hp, which is what keeps her in line, yes. But it still does not mean it is not a hybrid. It means she is a DD that needs to know how to minimise the amount of fire coming her way. In the grand picture, the Cossack or Lightning are a bit healthier, but still not healthy enough to be massively more successful as gunboats. Real gunboats would be Akizuki and Kidd, who really rely on those guns more than the torps and have the hp pool to take hits. But playing the Harekaze, I rely on both weapon systems about equally. Not necessarily in damage numbers, but in effect (10k on a DD with guns is more than a torp hit on a BB) and while the Harekaze cannot outslug other DDs, its damage output is remarkable and among the best at T8. Typically, for any DD, it's best to not take fair fights, Harekaze is no exception and while the hp pool is pretty bad, the ship can make calculated trades thanks to the damage output. Harekaze in that fashion was likely the best T8 DD assassin before Cossack appeared (and still is good at it), finishing off damaged DDs, taking 1v1 fights against those that cannot win a gunfight and just keeping lit up ships like Akizuki that you shouldn't try to gun down. That's why it is a hybrid. Not because it can gunboat, but because it uses both weapon systems. And yes, Kagero is a torp boat and Harekaze shares the hull. But I'm going to honestly ask, what exactly is the point of playing Harekaze as a torp boat? Kagero has the better torps, more hp and Harekaze is worse in most areas except half a knot better speed and that gun armament. Basically, you are basically wasting the one massive advantage the Harekaze has. HP is where the ship lacks, but if you just use smoke or terrain, it doesn't matter much really. Personally, the main reason I view Harekaze as a great T8 DD is because of the hybrid nature. as long as I don't throw the hp pool away carelessly, I got the tools to deal with anything. That's also why I commonly play the ship with smoke instead of TRB and why overall I got 168 gun kills vs 94 torp kills. Also, from the last time T8 mattered in Ranked: Guns matter.

As long as I know what a sausage is, who cares what I call it? But maybe I realise that if I just call it cheese, that people might get confused, as while I like having sausage and cheese together, others might find the differentiation useful and important and I guess in the end, if I want to be understood properly, I have to conform to commonly shared conventions of what things be called. And yes, it depends on what a ship can do, not what I do with it. Because if we define ships by how we play them, regardless of whether our playstyle actually has reasonable efficiency, anything can be whatever. And such is not a way to get useful definitions. There's a reason why we define cucumbers as a vegetable and when you throw it into a fruit salad you are weird, but cucumbers are not a fruit.

That was because the 10 cm guns lacked pen. Now the 10 cm guns actually have the highest pen. So, there is no reason to play the other builds. vs US guns, the US guns are worse in every aspect other than turret traverse. But given how much dpm you trade away (one of the best dpm values on 10 cm vs the worst of all T8 DDs on the USN 5-inch) and that the 10 cm turret traverse is not slow enough to be unmanageable, there's no reason to play with the 5-inch Midway guns. vs Kagero guns, just, why? Less dpm, less pen, less turret traverse, less AA... seriously, why? Like, the only time these guns are better is if you fire only a single salvo. But in the time the Kagero guns need to reload, the 10 cm guns fire twice and got some time to spare. The B-hull is superior to what essentially amounts to a stock Kagero in every way, regardless of commander points. And yes, Harekaze is a ship with good torps and good guns. It's why she is a hybrid, not a gunboat like the Akizuki or some Russian boat, nor a torp boat like the Kagero or Asashio. Harekaze can use both armaments and should use both armaments as the situation asks for it for optimal performance and thus it's silly to call it a torp boat. Because frankly, I can play Gneisenau as a torp boat, but it is neither the best way to play the ship, nor the way this ship was designed and balanced nor is any reasonable person going to list Gneisenau as a torp boat. And you might think it's unimportant to worry about what they are called, but imo, Harekaze being a hybrid and Kagero being not is basically the definition of why one is good and the other is basically mediocre. Why Harekaze is a good pick for any T8 Ranked that can be recommended alongside Loyang, Kidd and other top tier T8 DDs, while Kagero is questionable and basically trails the list maybe edging out Kiev and Asashio.

That's like saying Fubuki or Umikaze are hybrids, cause their stock torps permit her no real torp boat gameplay. There's exactly one configuration on Harekaze that is competitive and that this ship is balanced around and there is exactly no reason to play the other hulls except because you want to shoot yourself in the foot. and as long as it is clear that Harekaze ought to be played with 10 cm guns and not the other two garbage options, no, she's not a torp boat. Also, playing her without making proper use of all her assets is an option. But by that logic, you could play Benson as a torp-only boat or the Lightning. Does't mean they aren't hybrids though.

Asashio is as much Kagero as Yuugumo is. Edit: And Harekaze isn't a torp boat.

Only cause T10s aren't much more of a threat than T8s already are and T10 ships generally maneuver more sluggishly, thus eat more torps. It's however not exactly fair to talk about "Kagero sisters". Asashio is a seperate class and Harekaze, due to being more hybrid, actually minds MM more than Kagero. Mostly because Harekaze is decent vs T10 still, but vs T6/7 really can just wipe the floor with those. Farming a bit of damage on some Repu is nice, but it doesn't beat the feeling of when you show some Gadjah Mada that their concealment doesn't hold up (nor their firepower) or 1v1 an Atlanta and win.

I quoted you, because of the isolated statement of T8 ships being unable to face T10. Equal skill, yes, T10 likely will win. But for the most part, T8 ships, especially BBs and DDs aren't particularly bad at dealing with T10 ships. It's not an equal fight, but it is a level of inbuilt inequality that, imo, is still tolerable for most T8 ships. If one wanted to make a case against +/-2 MM, T8 is far from where anyone should start to argue, especially T8 BBs as the thread creator did. This is the risk you run, if you argue about T8 vs T10 solely neglecting the cases where it is clearly worse, esoecially given that this is a system of inequality that is intentional. WG will never make the battlefield single tier where everyone is supposed to be equal, so the case has to be made on when there is a situation where 2 tiers are too much to overcome with reasonable skill alone. T8 vs T10 is not that performance gap. T5/6/7 vs T7/8/9 is. I'd also not get my hopes up about WG fixing the MM too much. The only aspect WG tried to address so far, after many complaints, is T8 getting uptiered a bit lot. But neither will that change the times when you get uptiered, nor does it make T5/6/7 less painful when getting into +2 matches.

Note, Georgia has pretty standard AA. Sehales just corrected the values and nothing indicates this being special. It's basically a proto-Iowa with 6 large guns.

I purge frequently, but as I keep at least one of each ship, with bulins and a few spares of rarer ships (for later limit break and retrofit), I do actually run out of slots. But yeah, may you find a favourite ship soon.

Port slots? Or just keep lookout for some skins for your favourite ships. Also, dunno if you still get a free Saratoga for first purchase.

T5 vs T4 isn't actually that big of a difference. There are no significant tresholds that get passed. T8 vs T7 or T6 and T7 vs T5 enjoys far greater advantages. The worst ones are T5 vs T7 and T6 vs T8. Both are incredibly common too. No other tier is as well-equipped to handle +2 MM than T8. arguing that T8 especially is incapable of dealing with T10 is just silly. Something like T5 or T6 is worse off and T7 would be worse off if it would get uptiered more often. But hardly ever do people complain about that. Hardly ever does anyone say "Well, what the heck is my New York going to do vs a Gneisenau?" or "How is my Omaha going to survive vs a Helena that can unload 15 overmatching shells through my 10 mm paper armour bow straight into the citadel?" No, everybody gets hung up on the one tier where T8s get most of the tools to still have some effect vs T10s. NC vs Montana, Montana has more hp and 3 more guns, but NC still has enough pen to punish a Montana that screws up, both cannot overmatch each other and both share a weakness in an overmatchable citadel deck. Meanwhile Colorado vs New York, Colorado can pretty much ignore AP return fire if it angles well and can potentially citadel New York from any angle, because the penetration of the Colorado is among the best in the mid tiers (which makes West Virginia sillier, balanced only around the fact that you can't see T4s). A Des Moines will likely crap on a Baltimore, if it knows what it is doing, because HE dpm is so different, but Baltimore still has more chance than any T5 cruiser vs a T7 (only T5 that has a decent chance vs T7 is Furutaka vs Fiji, because Fiji is AP only and gets overmatched). Ships like Helena have just far more dpm and ships like the Yorck, Myoko, New Orleans can lolpen T5 cruisers through their bow. T8 DDs have some of the stealthiest boats in the game (only beaten by ultra-low tiers) and often enough dpm to get by. But what is some T6 Fubuki or Farragut going to do when it meets a Benson, Lightning or Akizuki? Akizuki outspots most lower tier DDs and they don't stand a chance unless they manage to land a torp on the duck. Ships like Benson, Lightning, Cossack or Harekaze with their dpm but better stealth and speed (and partly hydro, just for the lulz) can be pretty much the terror of lower tier DDs, because what is worse to meet in your 6.7 km concealment Sims or 6.1 km concealment Bucky than a 5.4 km Harekaze or 5.5 km Cossack?

I'm really impressed that 9/10 times the person that posts these types of threads complains about their BB getting uptiered, when T8 BB vsT10 is the kindest +2 uptiering there is in this game. I never ever saw a threat about how terrible this kinda MM is for the Hippers1, Mogamins and Charles' Martels out there. I guess they just already resigned to their fate after having experienced getting mercilessly hammered by BBs at previous tiers. But really, you can't tell me that Alabama vs Montana is anywhere as utterly unfair as Hipper vs Hindenburg, Baltimore vs Des Moines or Charles Martel vs Henri IV.
