Azuma gun nerf: No Thanks!
HaachamaShipping replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
Azuma gets no longer cruiser dispersion, but battlecruiser dispersion. In exchange it can now slot hydro and gets another charge of repair party. As Azuma still has garbage armour, noone sane is going to push even with another heal charge (that likely doesn't help much if you eat a ton of citadel damage) while the offensive power of the ship isn't all that great either. -

Alright, with PEF credit grind over, I decided to buy Neptune. I had it unlocked for a while, but prioritised other ships, because I didn't feel in a hurry to move on. One doesn't hear good things about this ship, I saw the stats in port and the armour model was quite... scary. And Neptune is one of my favourite targets as a cruiser or BB, because it is so easy to farm citadels on it. But hey, there has to be something right? So, I know, currently is like the worst time to play this ship (hello there, credit grinding Kronshtadts, Missouris and Musashis, newly acquired Stalingrads), but well, gotta learn when I got time. It has been, trying, to say the least. I know, I'm not a stellar player, but I try my best and what I really miss with the Neptune is... consistency. To me, the averages I get in Neptune are about as good as what I get in Roon or Ibuki, but the individual match results vary greatly and my WR seems crap. Asking clan mates who actually like this ship, they mostly just were like "gotta get used to it" priestess.png, which doesn't really help make me feel more at ease with this ship. What I gathered so far is that Neptune basically is just not able to play close range support like other RN cruisers could, because the survivability of the ship is garbage and the concealment is decidedly bad for the kind of vessel it is. In Edinburgh, I liked to just change smoke for radar and play the ship by ambushing DDs and camping behind islands when I felt like farming some damage. Damage totals weren't impressive, but when you can get an early kill on a DD, I felt like I was at least useful and the WR was decent too. On Neptune, I can't do that, because you get outspotted easily and then get absolutely murdered by everyone. And with smoke, the approach that seemed to work is to find somewhere 10-12 km away from the target (further if it's a Russian), smoke up, apply insane dpm. Further than that and they'd outrun my gun range, closer and I'd have to potentially fight them in the open as withdrawing from my smoke leaves me with 10.1 km concealment. And the dpm is nice, as is the torpedo armament. But other than that... Is there a way to play this ship in a more consistent manner that isn't necessarily just trying to matter by farming broadside ships at range? Also something that actually has some impact to provide the team with an advantage before it falls apart and I get overrun? I don't want to make some rant about this ship (though I find the concealment could need some help), but as it is, the only thing keeping me from losing my patience on this ship is looking up collaboration art of Neptune inbetween battles and my own ambition to get a WR of 50+%. Weeb stuff (AL Neptune):

ST, CVs, Georgia, Monarch, Conqueror
HaachamaShipping replied to Sehales's topic in Development Blog
Yet, Nelson is good at T7. I mean, this is to make Conqueror less foolproof and unless a Yamato shoots you, you are going to still be able to angle. Nelson has far more enemies that can wreck it. T6 BBs that can citadel Nelson through bow/stern: Bayern, QE, Warspite, West Virginia, Mutsu Rest can easily wreck it through the side. I citpenned Nelson with a goddamn Graf Spee once. Nelson has 356 mm belt + 32 mm torp belt above it. Below 10 km, even the somewhat pathetic pen of Scharnhorst, French 340 mm and the PEF can citadel the Nelson. Fuso and NM are capable of going through the belt at typical combat ranges too. Get uptiered and basically everyone can citadel your ship. So, yes, your BB is hard to citadel... if you intend to camp at max range shooting HE, because AP shatters on most BB belts at those ranges. -
Should I skip a ship in the jap line?
HaachamaShipping replied to S1NKARlVlA's topic in General Discussion
Short answer: No. Long Answer: There exists no bad IJN BB after Kawachi. If you aren't starting out, Kawachi can be skipped, nothing to be learned there. It's just terrible. Everything after that is decent to good. Some like Myogi and Izumo got bad rep, but got buffed to being solid ships that really do not justify being skipped. Others like Kongo, Fuso, Nagato and Amagi are among best BBs in their tier (and Izumo basically is amongst best tech tree T9, imo), which just leaves Yamato, which is a solid competitive T10. -
So, no concealment, no priority target? And I'm pretty sure PT is still a hella lot more useful than PM.
-
Because few commented on this, I thought I'd make a thread about it to see if I'm alone or whether others share the experience - The new buffed Myogi is actually pretty reliable now. I have a bit of a fondness for the Myogi. I started this game as an IJN BB main and basically arrived at Myogi within a week or two, after playing only Kawachi. With nothing to compare it to, it felt pretty ok. I was delighted at the speed and the guns felt punchy enough (Please don't look at my Myogi stats, I know they are crap, due to the many games I played back then). After a few arguments on whether Myogi was a decent BB at its tier or not, I rebought the ship prior to the latest buff and, I have to say, it was a bit underwhelming, after having played Wyoming, Kaiser and Ishizuchi. Then I heard a buff was coming and as one of the seemingly few Myogi fans, I was waiting patiently for the patch, to then test the new improved Myogi... with glorious 2.0 sigma. After all, not always do sigma increases necessarily mean good accuracy. Well, after like two dozen games (don't want to sealclub too hard now), I think, I can say, the Myogi feels finally like what it always was supposed to be. A ship that still lacks the alpha strike of the 10 or 12 gun vessels, but which has superb handling and the ability to dictate the range. Already before, it had the good speed, good turret traverse and insane range for its tier, but that meant not much when you practically hit not much at range. Well, the new tighter shell groupings, coupled with IJN dispersion at range and the mediocre shell velocity (thus also moderate vertical dispersion) mean the Myogi has pretty nice groupings and while obviously you still need the blessings of RNG to outright delete a ship in one salvo, if you know how to aim decently well, these guns will rarely miss and I had like 1/3 hit ratios in a good few of my games, despite not making much effort of getting into brawls, but staying at medium distance with the occasional long-range shot. It feels like Myogi can now actually attempt to close in on cruisers (which at lower tiers often lack torps) for the more brutal salvos, or kite BBs, and out-trade them at least with accuracy. I don't think it is OP, given you still will be far less likely to just delete them like with Wyoming's shotgun salvo or have the sustained dpm of a Kaiser or the silly HE of Orion and Ishizuchi, but the ship now has a character that is workable, fun and kind of distinct, while also being in line with general IJN BB playstyle in later tiers. I am very positively impressed. Things I noted too: The guns tend to know two modes, due to the high caliber: Overpen and citadel. Penetrations happen, but the other two are far more likely than with other BBs. Either you hit a citadel and get massive damage, or overpens for almost nothing. Thankfully, the citadels come often enough and are meaty (10k damage) that the overpens can be overlooked. Sucks a bit vs DDs though. While it obviously is not ideal, I still tried to test shots at extreme range, given I wanted to see how reliable that was. Let's say, I don't recommend it, but the results are far from terrible. Typically, the issue is that the target will change course. If you predicted their movement correctly though, landing 1-2 hits on a low tier cruiser is not out of the question and given you got 6 guns, that's a pretty good ratio. Obviously can earn you citadel ribbons too. If I have one qualm with the ship, it's that it might encourage long-range sniping across the (tiny low tier) maps. Then again, Yamato on the other end of the tree isn't much different in what it encourages. The combination of range and accuracy means that First Blood isn't exactly a rare achievement. Would still not use Yamamoto on the ship. You are unlikely to delete any ship in one salvo, so never gamble on it. Given the ship is fast, has decent hp, extreme range, decent-ish AA and secondaries, I think one can forgive the lack of devastating strike awards, especially given that this is T4. A Wyoming would envy your speed, an Orion would envy your accuracy. An Ishizuchi at best envies your AA and AP pen. So, next time someone says the Myogi sucks, I guess it is fair to respond with the age old wisdom of "git gud"?

Gneisenau. The armour holds up against T9s still, torps hurt ships whatever they hit.

I don't think it's something you just develop out of loneliness, but well. At least personally, I've been a bit on the dom side since a young age, it kind of is a fundamental aspect of my personality, though I'm quite apt at keeping it to myself. Ajax thus to me isn't a character I like due to having some desire to be a piggy or some feet fetish, but because her character kind of resonates with part of me (which might mean I have a trash personality, but I take it). I also liked the Graf Spee event, given it showed a bit more of the interactions Ajax has. Don't know Albacore's personality, but Sims just seems like some smug troll. I guess they are different kinds of treasing though. Party Queen skin indeed is nice. You are free to do what you want, as long as all participants consent. And who'd I be to judge? -

It's a ship that at its core plays mostly like Perth, just that it has fewer of the great tools and gets some situational gimmicks instead. Regardless of what the ship is called, it's not great. I mean, how many Euro folks give a damn about an Aussie boat over a Chinese ship? Frankly, both are about as far away from us. -

Dunno, I rather play T8 cruiser than T5 cruiser. Kind of sucks when every 203 mm armed ship can just overmatch your bow. The difference that repair party makes is nothing compared to how a Myoko can run up to your T5 whatever cruiser, shoot 10 AP rounds with DD dispersion at your angled ship and still get cits, while you can't even HE pen them without IFHE with most of them. Likely HE.

I guess, though one never knows. I first thought Neptune was a maid, till I read she is actually supposed to be a waitress at a confisserie/cafe, design-wise. Because Ajax or because Indy-chan? -
Edinburgh has better concealment. Also, yes, it's not a worse cruiser. But Atago also does not overperform. It's quite in line with T8 cruisers in general. Despite having the repair party. As if they actually had managed to make a balanced premium despite this feature. And I hate to say it, but if you feel like a Cleveland, Mogami or Chapayev is just farmable hitpoints when uptiered, then that is a L2P issue, not a repair party issue. Or are we next going to argue that T6 BBs need 32 mm platin, cause T8s and T7s crap on their armour and all DDs need the 6th module slot, because T7 DD in T9 is not fair?
-
And what exactly is the balance consideration for these ships? Because let's be real. Atago and Prinz Eugen are far from OP and Edinburgh has a lolheal but practically no armour. Slapping a heal on the rest, I'm not sure it'd be fair if basically a Cleveland, Chapayev, Mogami could start repairing damage. Currently, these ships are balanced and there's no reason to screw over that balance when the main issue is one of tiering. Additionally, all non-USN cruisers at T8 get torps too. Frankly, yes, Atago is a hit and run vessel that relies on vanishing between attacks. So, are you surprised that Atago instead of just getting its attack power cut to crap (compared to proper HE spammers) gets survivability tools that enhance this style of play? I mean, let's be real, if the Atago doesn't manage to disengage it's in far more trouble and Prinz Eugen for example, short of getting a torp rush off is one of the least threatening cruisers for anyone other than German T6-8 BBs (thanks to combination of no AP overmatch and no HE power). That repair party is nice, but a Charles Martel will still just go through these extra hp faster than you can meaningfully restore them, not to even talk about cruisers with top tier dpm.
-
Atago and Hipper get heals because their dpm is frankly not very good and they trade dpm for tankiness. And there'll always be a tier that can be uptiered into a team filled with heals. If it's not T8, it'll be T7. The correct approach is to address T8 MM so it isn't in this situation as often, not by powercreeping down the tiers.

Well, I wonder why so few want to even own it, when Perth is much more popular and hasn't got a deal where you can get it for cheap. And sure, you can citpen other cruisers if they offer you broadside. Leander however can citpen cruisers too at closer ranges and even if they are slightly angled and any other cruiser at T6 can 1v1 squash your Huang He due to the dpm disparity, if they don't broadside you like a moron. -

HaachamaShipping replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
6 guns broadside on that reload is no joke when they deal direct damage. Not at T4. It's 940 exp. Just for comparison, this is what I need to do in a T4 BB to get there. About 60k damage. Most of it on T3 BBs. Least rewarding target selection you could do in T4. No kills, 2 plane kills, no caps, no cap defense, no awards. -

HaachamaShipping replied to rihardslv11's topic in General Discussion
Getting damage done, ships killed and winning matches, ideally without dying. Regardless of how fun it is. Perth has same smoke, HE shells and while it got no AA it can take fighter plane (though for normal spotter is better). And Leander has no HE, but improved pen angle is fine too, it has a repair party and it has far less downtime inbetween smokes. Both ships also have an additional torp per side, while the Huang He would need to switch out valuable hydro for TRB. Thus, you only really benefit from Huang He in CV matches, but frankly, CVs at T6 are nowhere scare enough to make it worthwhile giving up as much as HH gives up just to get nice AA (without even getting defAA). There's a reason so few people consider Huang He a worthwhile ship. -
The reason for French secondaries being viable isn't always the pen. Take a look at that fire chance. Compare with German fire chance. Compare with IJN 10 cm gun. Then you know why those 100 mm French are actually useful.
-
Just because others behave in a terrible manner doesn't mean we should not strive for improving ourselves. Just because I get more often torped by team mates than I would wish for doesn't mean I should start carelessly throwing out torpedoes everywhere. Also, there is no reason the person cannot go and post their grievances in an established thread. He knows there are these threads, he said so. So why open a new one? Next, as this seems mostly CV related, it'd be better to not get this agitated in the first place. CV balance is still in a state of flux, changing by the week. If you'd actually want to make WG aware about these changes and believe the forums get you there, posting in an established thread has better results, as the WG stuff will, if at all, keep their eyes on the most important threads, not all the small ones.

Also, Leander is free. AA is basically the one thing Huang He brings over the other two and only maybe useful in CV matches. -

Well, whatever... we'll see... Brooklyn is an okish cruiser. Basically comparable to non-retro Leander in stats. Typical USN ship with no torps but DD secondary guns. Never levelled her, but certainly isn't bad. Also, the Brooklyn-class collection gives Wichita. -

Viribus Unitis got put into T5 where it is garbage and Exeter became a less armoured, slower and less heavily armed in terms of torps Furutaka after they nerfed its values. Gets a repair in return and is stealthier. Seems quite fair. Neither is anywhere close to Giulio and Belfast, but feel free to complain about two ships that were in an OP state weeks ago before WG adjusted the values based on feedback from testing. Proper criticism that wants to be taken seriously requires also the fairness of acknowledging when something happens that goes against ones opinion. As for Atlanta, the ship isn't worth it in terms of raw performance. Never was. The ship has always been about the silly concept and about making the best of it. It's not a Belfast, it's just a silly cruiser. Is it competitive? Yes. Is it fun? Sure can be. If this is enough, feel free to get it. If you want peak performance in a T7 cruiser, Helena, Boise and Fiji are allround better in much the same role.
