großer kurfürst Großer Kurfürst Secondary Build
HaachamaShipping replied to DoomDutch's topic in Battleships
Question is, what is "effective"? Like, take Kurfürst, a full spec is 18 point at least, of which up to 17 buff secondaries, which are Manual Secondaries AFT IFHE BFT AR AR is a general buff and as you need a two point perk anyway, it's not an opportunity cost. Even survivability oriented skills are nowhere useful enough to not make this the best 2 point skill for a BB with turrets that actually turn. Next, BFT... I never take it. Frankly, it adds nothing to the capabilities, it only increases the damage output by like 11%. This is not worth 3 points when secondaries are this limited. One might argue that enemies die faster, but more often a fifth repair party or -15% fire chance are way more useful than 10% more output here. So, the real three skills that seem to be in the full build are Manual Secondaries, AFT and IFHE. And now comes the question... at what point do we regard a secondary build effective? Because, I can easily argue that the real cost is 8 points, because let's be real, I can take off IFHE and still end up with secondaries that on 8 points do more direct damage than any other BB does with IFHE at T8-10. So, unless Kurfürst is the sole high tier BB that can get a "decent" secondary build, IFHE is not a must. Next, is AFT a must? Or can 9. something km secondaries work too? Because, how often do you need to stay at 11 km, not further away, but also not 9 km? and AFT with the AA range boost lost is basically only helpful for the secondaries now. You see where this is going? The issue ultimatively is, for most ships, you can invest much more into secondaries than it'll ever be worth. And their value typically will always be limited. WG stated they are looking into secondaries, but they won't buff them to the point where it becomes so overwhelmingly powerful to have immense impact with little skill input (hopefully, because the game shouldn't play itself for us). It might be best to accept that secondaries often will need a well-calibrated input to be worth their investment and that the results might be useful, but just not immensely impressive. e.g. AFT and Sec Mod on PEF, Iron Duke or Mutsu has already helped kill quite a few low tier ships (and in PEF's case T8 cruisers) that underestimated the secondaries, AFT + Sec Mod + Manual Secondaries on any ship with viable secondaries past T7 basically is the maximum I'd invest, unless I go full meme, but then I really give no two f**ks about efficiency. And from personal experience, Yamato purely with mod and Manual Secondaries (and flag) has 8.8 km secondaries. It seems short ranged, but if you get rushed by a DD, it works. If you get torped by a DD from 10 km away, Kurfürst won't stop that either. And, I mean, short of making some Russian BB that has a ton of Grozovoi guns as secondaries with Massachusetts dispersion and can reach to 10+ km, nothing ever would. Nor should it, because it'd be kinda silly. So, what exactly do we wish for, when we say, we want a cheaper secondary build option that is "decent"? -
großer kurfürst Großer Kurfürst Secondary Build
HaachamaShipping replied to DoomDutch's topic in Battleships
Maybe because the reason IFHE GK works is because it is supposed to punish people who go nose in to you and show all that 32 mm armour? If you get shown broadside where it often hits belt and deck, just turn your 12 main battery guns and blast the Yamato out of the water. Because secondaries aren't for silly lengthy broadside exchanges as if we're in the age of sail exchanging salvos of small caliber guns. -
Why dont High Tier Battlecruiers have torpedoes ?
HaachamaShipping replied to OddityNZ's topic in General Discussion
Kronshtadt basically has more hp, that's it. Alaska has a more submerged citadel, 27 mm extremities plating that can bounce 38 cm shells (Kron only has 25 mm) and Alaska has 36 mm centre deck that shatters most cruiser HE and bounces Yamato shells even, while Kron is a uniform 25 mm across the whole deck. There is a reason LWM rates Alaska the best protected cruiser at T9 and 1v1 Alaska should usually just trash a Kronshtadt. -
The Channel Dash makes for a nice one and could be an op. Playable in T7 and T8 German BB and T8 German cruisers. And it's not like any other second flag was tied to a naval campaign. British DD and CV are a ship type, not any specific historical event.

Why dont High Tier Battlecruiers have torpedoes ?
HaachamaShipping replied to OddityNZ's topic in General Discussion
They were not planned with torpedoes IRL. The navies fielding them saw little value in putting torps on these ships. Yoshino will feature torpedoes, as she is based on a B-65 design that had torpedoes. Also, Alaska is better armoured than Kronshtadt. -
Your LEAST played premium ships?
HaachamaShipping replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
I mean, when I put a 19 pt Akizuki/Harekaze captain on the boat, Tachibana very much clubs everything at T2 and T3. It's 21 knots, but pretty much also my first choice of premium I basically never touch and forget I have. Not just the speed though, but also pretty crap armour and I feel like Iron Duke basically does the same job better, especially given AA is nothing special anymore. -
Ingame ranges are lower across the board. Yamato IRL could fire out to 45 km, yet ingame it's only like 26 km. On the other hand, hitting stuff at range is way easier ingame, as you got two-digit hit percentages most of the time, not single-digit as was the case IRL.

It's how you use the system, not how it is intented to be used and not how most use it. But as it is not really gamebreaking, giving purely slight economic and aesthetic bonuses, part of which could also be obtained by throwing money at a premium account, there really is not an issue there. Those interested in joining clans for the clan aspect can freely join one wiithout paying anything and are likely better off than starting their own (given that it's more likely to have enough oil for good facilities). And there's all sorts of reasons for joining a clan, apart from economic bonuses and CB, such as having team mates that are fun to play with and help in achieving missions (or with whom you can suffer through that crap together) socialising with like-minded people interacting with other players who might actually be able to share knowledge with you. Especially for new players this can be helpful getting to interact with seasoned folks who replace the tutorials WG refuses to provide. ... That's ontop of the economic stuff and CB, which to some can be a reason, given it's a way less derpy game mode with pretty nice rewards. But even if you supposedly have no interest in any of that, it actually isn't that hard finding some semiactive clan that will let you join them and ghost them for all eternity without real interaction. Just for the clan facilities. Not how I'd play the game, but if it was just about the bonuses, this'd save me 1k doubloons. It shows.

HaachamaShipping replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
That's why Mogami coexists with Mikhail Kutuzov and Amagi shares her tier with all those 30s designs of BB. And the Prinz Eitel Friedrich was historically planned to be a most ridiculous AA ship and totally wouldn't have been justified to be a T5. -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
HaachamaShipping replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
The thing is, for most of the game, your torps hit not a lot and while you think that we were chasing you, I had some very good shots at the Orion, South Carolina, some cruisers... I thus count it as a partial success if the most dangerous ship in the match is tied up while those that chase it are not. Also, got fire damage, which I was farming, so, I don't particularly care about results (thank WG for that mindset with its silly missions). -

HaachamaShipping replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Indeed. Well, played. That turn at the end that got me killed was my fault, but in a 22.5 knot BB, not many plays I could make to avoid losing, as I either could try go into the cap or go the other way around the island and run into you there if you had gone to our cap, which I assumed before you got spotted. Sadly by the time it became obvious that I was wrong about that I got hit by Kamikaze 68 knot torps. At least our group occupied you for some time, given a Kamikaze in that match making could just roflstomp its way through. -

Giving it 8 km torps but both consumables would be something, keeping it's power level firmly in check too. Even normal DWT are a bit less crippling, but 15 km Asashio torps... it's like Yuudachi was some DD known for sitting behind the main lines safely torping BBs from stand-off range. And asashio has shown how toxic it becomes for both teams. AA would never be a thing, as regardless of how many 25 mm guns you put on a ship, their range sucks too much. -

Nah, clearly we need to automate aircraft speed to avoid a skill gap between those who figured out what W and S do and those who did not. -

Hopefully they will be able to, because we really don't need more of these silly super DWT DDs. -
Getting uptiered in Hipper is normal and it is the most frustrating thing about Hipper and the reason I consider the ship terrible. If I wanted to spam at enemies from max range in a T8 vs T10, Charles Martel can that too. Hipper might have better pen on HE, but CM has better damage and fire chance. Hipper might be able to bounce 38 cm shells, but vs T9/10, very very few ships get 38 cm guns, while speed boost helps regardless of tier. If I want a T8 cruiser that doesn't lose most of its value when MM behaves as usual and only starts getting actually decent when you get thrown a match vs T6 and T7, basically every other cruiser retains more value, given they are not balanced around situational armour, but typically around strengths that matter regardless of tier (e.g. fire power, concealment, radar, ...).

I honestly do wonder why they haven't yet brought on more buyable premium characters, since you know, it might boost sales of ships like Prinz Eugen, Dunkerque, Sims,... Amagi lacks her torps too. Or Indianapolis lacking survivability of any kind. -
Atlanta (VII) - shooting range 15,5 kms???
HaachamaShipping replied to Yaskaraxx's topic in General Discussion
Just theoretically... could an Atlanta shoot without lock on at max range while kiting, and the ship covers the 2 km extra during the shell flight time? I'm kind of doubting it, but it's like the most interesting thought I would be able to contribute here. -

Idea for potential coal or free XP destroyer at Tier V

Monaghan gets Benson torps. Which are not very fast, but still a step above sea mines (which would be Sims' long-range option or Black torps). -
De Grasse weak without healing abilty ?
HaachamaShipping replied to Beastofwar's topic in General Discussion
There's two with repair party, Leander and Graf Spee (which technically has two versions, but we'll not go into that). Now, as for operations, no, not all ships are equally suited for ops. arguing your ship should be buffed to be an ideal pick for ops is silly, because ships get balanced for randoms and buffing De Grasse with a repair party would do all kinds of stuff to her performance there. Also, obviously there are people who make De Grasse work in operations and it can be an ok asset if played properly. But if you don't find it suitable for that, then get a different ship that is suited, don't ask for buffs. Because ops always prefer certain ships and make others utterly useless. e.g. something like Sims or Shiratsuyu likely is just not a good pick to bring to Operation Narai if you want to do some actual heavy lifting. In the past, CVs were kind of wasted in Operation Ultimate Frontier (now there are no longer T7 CVs). Don't expect every ship to be performing super well in operations, especially as it even can vary depending on op (I'd for example consider Naval Station Newport the best for USN BBs, as you don't need to move too much, while Aegis I'd consider more favourable to ships like Mutsu, who can make use of their agilty and the lack of overmatching guns makes Mutsu far less of an issue than NSN where you are potentially getting oneshot by Izumo towards the end if RNG hates you). -
Radar? USN CA pen angles? Stealth torp? IJN accuracy? Just because it isn't all packed into consumables doesn't mean these lines are normal. Unlike BBs, where USN/IJN really are the most no-nonsense ships, cruiser-wise there are a greater number of differences. I'd even call Germans more down-to-earth than these two (or three if you count USN line split). French cruisers are an ok line. They got speed boost and main battery reload booster later on, but frankly, they still very much stay in line with cruisers. I'd say for beginners they are fine, not necessarily much more or less suitable than the German, American or Japanese lines. Soviets I don't recommend as starter due to the maneuverability issues, British because they are the most gimmicky line of ships there is. Alternatively, play all the lines up to T5 and then see what you found fun. In these lower tiers buying the ships is affordable, you see a few different playstyles (though they differentiate more later) and frankly, except for the British, I'd call them all decent investments for a first line you can grind to T10 (British exception is because Minotaur is a good ship, but least standard and least appreciated in formats like clan battles. It pays off having learned game basics before committing to that line).

I'd not really make too grave statements yet. While Sinop is undoubtedly powerful, Gneisenau seems not any more or less impacted by Sinop compared to any other T7 BB. In a way, it might not even be that affected compared to certain others, given Gneisenau's armour still bounces shells and her torps still hit hard.
