Tbf, German battleships for the most part emphasised armour over firepower too. The Moltke -class and Seydlitz had 28 cm guns, but so did the Nassau-class, Derfflinger has 30.5 cm guns, just like the BBs constructed around the same time, Mackensen and Ersatz Yorck were designed with 35 cm and 38 cm guns as the Germans started to up the caliber with the Bayern-class. The battlecruisers (early on) had fewer gun turrets, but if you compare Derfflinger to Kaiser or König, it's not really a greater sacrifice than you see by comparing Lion to Orion or Iron Duke. And compared to the BBs, the battlecruisers of Germany also saved some armour, just the amount left still was competitive with what other countries slapped onto their battleships to begin with.

Texas never was immune from CV attack. In the past, good CVs would either avoid the ship or drop it from stand-off distances, something that is way harder to pull off now.

75 Euro for three T8 premiums sounds nice, but apart from Alabama not being my cup of tea, ~19% chance of getting Asashio is 19% too many. And nothing would suck more than paying75 Euro for a worse NC, an Asashio and a Le Terrible. Perth bundle gets my recommendation though for people who have no Perth and like the idea of premium Leander. Ship got slight nerfs/buffs (the fighter now is basically better AA than it was before, the spotter plane though is far worse at spotting things outside your smoke), but is still solid.

Depends what you shoot at. Cruisers, you can still wreck at 15 km range. BBs? Apart from the freak citadel out of nowhere, HE is often a better choice. Typically though, Alaska is one of the few cruisers that can survive at mid range vs BBs, as long as they aren't up against multiple from different directions (which no cruiser takes well, nor do most BBs). Azuma/Yoshino pretty much are 50/50 whether their armour scheme holds up or they eat multiple citadels.

Feel free to argue that, but that is a different argument from OP's "Scharnhorst is much weaker now when matched vs Sinop where it cannot do anything". What did Scharnhorst do against a competent Hood? Hood is faster, has more hp, has 8 accurate guns instead of 9, but they actually turn within the century and have incredibly good angles and also only takes catastrophic damage when not properly angled or when dumped on by aircraft. Maybe Sinop is overperforming, but if I wanted to raise that matter, I'd ask, what is the point of playing Nagato vs playing Sinop, not complain that Scharnhorst somehow is worse off just cause Sinop exists. It's not. Sinop brings no real challenges over what already existed before.

Play any light cruiser line and you'll learn how to grind your 14 points. Doesn't matter for the debate. Even if the ship had actual main battery performance beyond throwing wet paper tissues with incredible precision, you'd still be fine running a secondary build, because there are no skills to improve the main battery performance beyond EM, EL and AR, of which you'd pick two anyway. And purely for secondaries, PEF cannot complain. They work. Just, a ship cannot just work around secondaries.

Running a secondary PEF (because AA got nerfed to crap, so nothing better to spec into), it is accurate enough. You don't need to redo builds completely at T7, just go for AFT on point 10 and Manual Secondaries at point 14, which you achieve by T7/8.

Given how secondaries get inaccurate over range very fast (and achieve quite impressive accuracy at very close distances), I'd really not consider it reasonable to allow the full benefits at T4 or T5. At T5 for example, most secondaries can fullpen most other ships and while 5.8 km for a secondary spec sounds not too impressive, for T4/5 matches, that's actually pretty usable. If secondaries were given full secondary build benefits, you'd basically shred the small ships that get in range with little mercy.

Ever played a Bismarck? No? Then please don't give recommendations like that run contrary to how the ship should be played? Yes? then learn how to aim. Bismarck is far from irredeemable in terms of accuracy. The HE is garbage, an overpen does barely less than an HE pen and may pen or citadel, which obviously does far more. On a Kronshtadt, the main issue for at least 8 out of 10 times is people having no clue where to aim to get a citadel, they just shoot the middle of the ship and expect to get something, cause it's a "cruiser". But that's not where you citpen reliably in most BBs.

Which is why I pointed it out, as the topic assumes that Scharnhorst not being able to pen Sinop is somehow powercreep, when Scharnhorst had the same issues it had against Sinop already when it was released and had to go up against Nagatos and Colorados.

Scharnhorst has 280 mm guns. Not 380 mm. I do know what I'm talking about and I do know how the mechanics work.

280 mm shells don't overmatch any T7 BB, so whether you got 25 mm or 5000 mm, it doesn't matter.

Scharnhorst is enough of an all-rounder to work decently well. If you want to be any significantly more all-round, go play a different class.

It's not the guns that matter, it's the German ability to 1v1 and win a brawl. Gun caliber matters if I get into drawn out gunnery duels that are bow-in. Scharnhorst isn't made for that. You get into their face, torp, unload into their side and move on. with 30 knots, Scharnhorst outruns most of the big gun BBs, with only Gneisenau and Hood being faster while Sinop while not slow, if caught bow-on, will risk eating citadels when it turns. Gneisenau is stronger in BB vs BB fights, due to the overmatch, better secondaries and 2 knots extra, but you will wish you were a scharnhorst when MM gives you a bunch of cruisers instead.

Opposite for me. I'd take out Gneisenau or Scharnhorst more in these settings, just like I found FdG more useful in Ranked than in randoms. Reason is, the fewer ships there are, the fewer can focus you down and the more likely you can get into 1v1 or 1v2 fights that are manageable and where you can go in for the torp kill.

And when you get matched against 3 Hoods your options are what? Or three Gneisenaus? Or any three BBs that are fast enough that you cannot just torprush them. This issue has always existed for Scharnhorst, Sinop doesn't change that, because a Colorado can tank your shells just as well as a Sinop.

That's your opinion. Overall, from what denarmo stated, he seems to no longer enjoy the game and already felt like it was a chore to produce content. Making him a CC sounds all kinds of frustrating thus. I'm saddened to by denaremo leaving, but I do not think that this would really help.

Nah, Furutaka is more deserving of that title. Fiji is great, but with ships like Helena, Myoko, Algerie and even Yorck around, the competition isn't too shabby. Compare that to Furutaka, which is so much better than its opposition, it basically is the sole silver cruiser that most people would take into any T5 Ranked, with a few oddjobs opting for Emerald.

Why do people all the time think they shouldn't be at fault and being pink is way too punishing? First off, no, most other people are intently paying attention to the enemy, they have no time paying attention to maybe getting shot in the back by allies, because, you know, that's not exactly something that should happen in the first place. Second, you know it likely won't hit the Mino, yet it was possible to hit the GK. Well, great. Why is it so hard to accept responsibility? Like, I got over 6k games, I'm certainly not going to pretent I haven't been pink because of careless torps. We all end up there at some point. But I also take it as a warning to be more careful next time, not go on the forums and complain. Lastly, you're pink. Is there really an issue with it? It's a warning. It is in no way penalising you except for the colour. You earn exactly as much as non-pinks, you still have access to all game modes, there's really nothing to complain about. Is it that hard to accept a warning and not go and complain?

Yeah. Basically, it's great for cyclones. When you can turn most fights into 1v1 at 8 km, this ship is absolutely lethal.

I can see decent points for pretty much any ship that isn't GK. Like, Repu has reload, accuracy and speed with likely the best anti-cruiser guns. Kremlin has good anti-cruiser guns, insane HE resistance and tankiness. Montana is great all-rounder, Conqueror with the changes certainly seems to have enormous potential. Yamato has its citadel, but those guns are extremely potent. GK is basically memes galore, though it likely is the best T10 BB in a cyclone/thunderstorm front.
