    CV Rework Discussion

We are long past that. This is post #10681.

Hey Devs, how about some crew on the ships while in port?

See WG, you give these people a cat and suddenly they want a whole crew!

Best secondary armament on a ship?

*points one tier lower* I prefer Gneisenau, because it's still great at a tier where it has an easier time to perform. Also, no IFHE needed to just fullpen most other same tier BBs. Reminds me of the times I played Loyang and typed "No worries, I can help with defAA".

    CV Rework Discussion

If you already reached your full potential at under 2k posts, that's sad. I'm disappointed. I thought you could go so much further... Most CV players aren't useful, just like most of the playerbase isn't useful. How often are DDs or BBs utterly useless? Why should CV players be magically less braindead? Meanwhile, good CV player will likely farm damage on that DD, at a time when they deem it right to care about the DD.
  6. Only ones I'm missing are Arizona, De Grasse, Graf Spee, Molotov and Makarov. Given Makarov likely isn't in there, I'm hoping for De Grasse or Molotov, as I don't want a premium NM and I have HSF Graf Spee.

    RTS vs Rework - Saipan

No, because it'd be far too limiting. T4s, rare T6s in lucky MM and Kaga would still have any kind of real functionality. And in general, "overperformance" is connected to interaction plane-target. It's why @El2aZeR calls the rework fundamentally flawed, as plane-target interaction is the core mechanic of the rework. The main issue isn't what CVs can achieve, it's how they achieve it. Like, even if Enterprise only had its starting loadout, that's enough to screw over one DD royally with little to no counterplay. Is the CV a better addition to the game if it can only hard-counter one ship before running out of planes? I do not think so. This is one of the main issues with how WG evaluates the rework. The way WG seems to balance CVs is basically two numbers on the spreadsheet, which is the average damage achieved and the number of people playing CV and as long as these values are within acceptable limits, all's fine, even if the damage CVs achieve is not cancerous in quantity, but in quality. Killing planes isn't anywhere as rewarding and making killing planes more rewarding than killing ships leads to two people dogfighting in the sky above the fleet till one side runs out of fighters and has nothing better to do anymore. And as long as it isn't rewarding, people will just focus on striking. Same reason why it's currently a losing move to try and throw out fighter planes all the time or why in the old days of RTS strike setups were considered far superior over air superiority ones.

    Tier 8 ranked....

Given I ranked out in Implacable (despite what I said before, in the end returned to her), naturally, any decently well-played CV can beat the average Enterprise, just a matter of how much of an uphill struggle you want. Obviously as a non-CV though, never trust any CV. Many are horrid. Got AA defense expert in my one Bismarck game. Congrats on Ranking out.

They dropped the GC uptier because people cried. The test Giulio performed ok, being challenged by T8s, but what T6 BB isn't?

    RTS vs Rework - Saipan

Most immersion-breaking to me is launching a catapult fighter and suddenly a whole squad is thrown out... I liked the old animation for one plane, but now it's just silly. Very sad.

Would be a bit better, but still bad. Overall, VU will never have good AA and it is best to accept that. It is better to consider it aside from that and even aside from that, what does this thing bring to the table over a König, with its lulzy speed and hp pool. Unlike König it doesn't even have a high quality turtleback and can get citpenned. Ship just belongs to T4, where it is pretty much balanced for surface combat and lacking AA isn't special there. WG has to consider how to approach the 4 CV per game there anyway at some point (or ignore it WG style till it becomes unbearable).

    Thunderer

Gneisenau doesn't have good accuracy, but the low barrel count forces players to play it in a way that gives a high accuracy. If I blast an enemy at 10 km all the time for say 3 out of 6 shell hits, it would show the same 50% as if I regularly hit 4 out of 8 Nagato shells at 15 km, yet I would still get more out of Nagato and neither value is indicative of the actual accuracy of these ships.

Tirpitz and Asashio are back in action

Even if all 18 would fire, the dps would be too pathetic to matter.

    BB overpopulation finally fixed?

Without trying to take away from the achievement, I'd like to point out that hit rate isn't a very good metric for relative accuracy. Hit rate depends also on other factors than accuracy. One good example would be how players who play a lot of Gneisenau and play her well tend to have pretty solid hit rates in the ship which can approach 30% and up. Is this because the Gneisenau is super accurate? No. It's because with only 6 guns, you have to play the ship in ways that maximises accuracy to get things done. Same reason why high dpm ships can have comparatively poor hit rates, because even if the rain of shells lands in the water due to evasive maneuvers, the damage of what actually hits is sufficient. Also, one thing worth pointing out in your listing of advantages would be that given it's a Conqueror hull, you get a pretty solid concealment for a BB. Combined with good guns, makes for good cruiser blapping.

    German Battleships Secondaries

Bait needs to be taken to be effective. And even then, the necessity for this highlights the fragility. These ships aren't bad. But they sure are among the most fragile at their tier. If it comes down to tanking alone, most of the T8 BBs do it better and the only thing Massa and NC have going for them is the ability to either queue up repairs fast or to repair massive amounts, potentially. And I rate both lower than the Monarch there, which is inbetween normal and special repair on both aspects, in combination with 75% repairable damage and a better belt to reduce the chances to get devastated when not fully bow-in.

And at some point you are showing broadside, even if just a moment. Short of reversing, there is no way to move away otherwise. If the enemy is loaded at that point, then you are risking a lot. Sure, you might get away with it, but the mere fact that it can happen makes it risky.

I mean, I did that to Conqueror once with Yoshino in a brawl. If you get to the flank, citadels happen. But if the Monarch outflanks alabama, it's pretty much the reverse and Alabama will eat heavy damage.

    German Battleships Secondaries

Issue is, the main threat in a proper brawl is getting outmaneuvered and shot in the side. Also, while the armour is better than Monarch, Monarch still has an easier time disengaging and sustaining damage with its repair party.

    Viribus Unitis is alive

Most other T5s survive eating three cits and 3 normal pens though and all other T5s survive 2 cits and 4 normal pens. Only VU dies to that, because every citpen is a third of the entire hp pool. Though obviously Gneisenau is extra nasty, because it can devstrike VU with torps too.

Until late in WWII, open seccession wasn't really on the table for most and at best you can compare it to Belgian politics or the case of Scotland. The argument that it was just one giant oppressive regime not supported in any way by certain loyalties from the variant nationalities is not just a rethoric that gained traction ex-post facto to justify the new political landscape of "nation" states (which pretty much all were faced with more or less severe minority problems) but also ignores how popular opinion can change, when you look at the way Southern Slavic delegations opted to join Yugoslavia in the eve of WWI, yet later they were eager to get out again. But this touches on a good few very complex and quite sensitive issues, so exploring this matter further is likely not appropriate for this thread.

Among T8 BBs, yes, it is squishy, just like all high tier USN ships are comparatively squishy, thanks to lackluster side belt + overmatchable citadel deck. If we look at T8: Bismarck and Tirpitz: No contest. 50 mm deck, best turtleback. Amagi: Less belt armour, but has turtleback that works at closer ranges and a non-overmatchable cit deck. Kii: Almost as much belt, non-overmatchable cit deck (except by Yamato). Richelieu and Gascogne: Less plating, but at least better citadel protection with a slight turtleback. Closest you get to USN levels of squish. Vladivostok and Lenin: Only from the side or from the air. Bowtanks like nothing else. Roma: Vladi light. Second best belt armour in the game. Vanguard: less plating, but at least only gets citpenned when you hit the waterline, as cit deck is 32 mm. Also, large hp pool. Monarch: citadels only at waterline, because 32 mm cit deck, some of the best belt armour at T8 and a better repair party. It's not squishy on levels where its unmanageable, but the USN BBs are some of the most reliable ships to get citpens on if you show side.

    Monarch is utter trash!

Sure... Not cherry-picked, just a game I queued up for to respond to this post and guess what. Monarch did not disappoint. AP only, dreadnought, facing off vs a Tirpitz, Nagato and Warspite. 1.9 million potential. Tbf though, I hardly played around with the concealment. Only felt the need to go dark once for a few seconds, because most of the time the new repair party was sufficient survivability.

Tirpitz players and obsession with torps

Derpitz in my games sit in back, shoot HE and launch torps when my IJN/French/German cruiser sails by.
