20 km is sadly the better option and frankly the best use is to just consider them an interesting auxiliary armament, but not a major source of damage, unless you get to rush enemy ships and use the torps close up. They do get surprising kills though, even on the enemy team. And even if only 1-2 hit, these torps hurt. Best use is on ships that move very predictably, so campers or choke points, where enemies cannot just dodge.

You mean massively imbalanced like the highly successful CV rework?

Poll: Which ship are you most looking forward to?

And I have to pick an option from each question... I do not think this design will wok out. -
Nope, it doesn't. Neither has enough AA to protect themselves nor to protect others. Both are literally among the worst BBs to protect others at T6 due to piss-poor range. And if they rely on others for AA, what's the point of one having marginally less garbage AA?

Why is this in two questions? -
WG: *slaps top sekrit Soviet archives* This thing can fit so many of Stalin's fantasies inside!

Not like Lenin doesn't exist. Don't wanna play Enterprise, don't wanna play against Enterprise. I think I'll actually play GZ. No, for realz...

Destroyer versus rocket planes
HaachamaShipping replied to SlayerOfScrubs's topic in General Discussion
The spread of rockets on Tiny Tims and GZ rockets is an elongated elipsis. If you come from bow or stern, most of the enemy ship is inside the elipsis, if you come from the side, only a small part is and most of the elipsis is in the water. Thus, chances are higher you hit the DD, when you have proper approach angle. -

You can rest assured, I also thought that my team could lose, when we had only A and nothing else. Thankfully the Lightning died and thus the biggest threat on the push north. -
Destroyer versus rocket planes
HaachamaShipping replied to SlayerOfScrubs's topic in General Discussion
125 knots still is more than twice what a Le Terrible can do. AR also is the rare RN CV where the bombers are good against CVs, because trying to hit a DD with BB-sized targetting area is pretty much all up to RNG. As to how to avoid getting wrecked by rocket planes: Don't play DD. If you have to play DD, don't get spotted while planes are around. Press P to disable AA and do your best to not have a predictable path. If planes are around and searching, stay near something like a BB with actually worthwhile AA. CV player will likely not fly over that and thus not spot you. Wait till planes are gone to continue doing what you did before and hope CV goes for something else. If nothing is around to give AA cover and you cannot avoid the CV flying into detection range, smoke up. Yes, you waste a smoke, but better than wasting your ship. If your DD has no smoke, well, guess that's the risk you took when not taking smoke. If you cannot avoid getting attacked, try to have an idea how much maneuvering can prevent getting wrecked by rockets. Vs high tier USN, try to show side, in case they have Tiny Tims, as you do against GZ. IJN and RN are a bit too round to make noticeable difference in how you get approached. Once all these means are exhausted, pray that your enemy is an idiot that cannot even aim rockets. Overall, that's basically all the things you can do. It's maybe not fair or fun for DDs, but it's the reality. If you don't like it, I refer to the first point of the list. Noone here is going to change the direction of the game, as this forum likely gets ignored anyway. And the matter that is being brought up is as old as the reworked CVs. -
How players think about Ocean map !!
HaachamaShipping replied to Atorpad's topic in General Discussion
Ocean is like Detonations. It is pretty random, not frequent enough to ruin the game overall, hits certain classes harder than others, is a legacy from the early days of the game that somehow survived despite the negative feedback and being absolutely not useful for the game and you can bet that this will stay in the game regardless of what feedback we'll get. Just had an Ocean game today. Most cruisers were lucky enough to be Mino or Smolensk with smoke. Worcester was out of luck though. Obviously, once the smokes ran out, the cruisers started dying pretty fast... -

Met @pra3y in their Iowa while sailing my newest toy, the Thunderer. To answer your last question: Because it was effective! 63% fire chance sure laughs at angling. Though this was quite the salvo. But no hard feelings. It's just good business. (But for real, the WR I have in this thing is horrendous. Actually winning for once is very much needed.) -
I think the KGV/Monarch heal would be pretty ok in this regard. It's great, but not overtuned.
-
Imo, yes. You sacrifice the Conqueror heal for Vanguard heal, which means you have to be a bit more careful, but in exchange you get one of the most brutal BB main armaments the game has to offer. And pretty much all the strengths lie in these guns: 457 mm, so AP overmatches 30 mm on cruisers large cruiser dispersion, you pretty much have accuracy like an Alaska. almost Russian levels of turret traverse at 33.6 s with Dunkirk and MBM3. FdG levels of reload at 22.9 s with MBM3. AP is basically slightly more powerful per shell than Montana AP, so at medium and short range you can pen enemy BB easily, cruisers at any range really. When you cannot use AP, HE is the usual RN thermonuclear option, with 63% fire chance, 8.2k alpha and 1/4 pen, which combined with the reload and accuracy makes for some insane salvos at any range. It is less forgiving with its lack of armour and superheal (well, it still has a 406 mm main belt, which should not be underestimated), but with proper ammunition choice, this main battery is no joke and easily gets the damage numbers. And it certainly is very satisfying to show Kremlin, Smolensk and other such new additions that there are ways to deal with them. Biggest downside of the ship though, imo: lacks spotter plane. Very hard to aim behind islands.

How are new "Regia Marina" cruisers armed with AP & SAP comparable to "Royal Navy" light cruisers armed with only AP (albeit "special")? Who got the "better deal" regarding guns?
HaachamaShipping replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
RN cruisers have: good concealment to sneak into good positions hydro, to hunt smaller targets which they can wreck. Italians are piss poor at hunting DDs on their own. smoke to disengage or farm from. The Italian smokes are interesting, but only 3 and short. later option to replace smoke with radar, which potentially doubles down on the small game hunting playstyle on pretty much all tiers, RN CLs have better torp armament than the RM ones. While risky, you can torp rush things. RM can forget about that most of the time because of anaemic torp damage and speed.- 58 replies

AA on both is so bad, it doesn't make a realistic difference.
-
Ok, after getting enough coal to get Thunderer yesterday: Godly main battery, acceptable hull. Feels like what the RN BBs should have been like. Now I can go sell Lion, because I need no Conqueror.

Yamato has no mid range. Like most IJN ships that are not fitted with late-war fantasy AA refits, they only feature short range of Type 96 25 mm mounts in single to triple mounts and Type 89 12.7 cm duel purpose guns in twin mounts. The only ships that feature mid-range are those that get the Japanese knock-off Bofors, which are pretty much all ships that never served, like the Kitakaze, the Ibuki, the Kii or Yoshino. On the flipside, IJN BB have a ton of short-range, which means planes can get shredded on the way out and while AA on Yamato isn't great, the ship for bad CV players is still an obstacle, while for good CV players, as a target, it can be uninviting, unless you have good AP DBs that can citpen it. After all, 55% torpedo belt and deck that says no to RN HE bombs, while being one of the shorter hulls. Easier time hitting something where you get good return on your planes.

Div mate was surprised when their Z-52 spotted something from the sea floor. Maybe the subs are already lurking about? -
WV '41. Overmatch wins out, imo.
-
Ohio and Thunderer are released. And Yamato can absolutely murder it, due to overmatching both its deck plating and citadel deck plating. Yamato and Musashi are some of the greatest threats to the Thunderer. And Yamato retains its overmatch superiority. Frankly, the sole rework we really need is that WG remove the B hull on Izumo and Iowa, make the C hull the B hull and stop force people to grind 100k exp or invest that much free exp just to get actually workable rudder shift. No other line of BBs is that silly. Only the two old lines do this.

Noone told us. You should've said something. Damn. Guess no T-shirt for me. -
Just like Hipper has decent AP dpm and some of the worst HE dpm and that works out so well for that ship. Mainz basically needs a competitive HE dpm or else, what is the point? The AP dpm is nice on paper, until you consider that Cleveland comes close, but actually has way better penetration, which is laughable, because Cleveland AP already has limits on its usefulness (and let's not get into how much better the Mogami and Russians are in this regard). And anyone can angle against AP, you can't angle against HE. And looking at the Hipper hull, giving the ship a worse hull overall begs the question, what is the supposed strength of the ship? With 27 mm, at least the ship can boast good survivability compared to Cleveland and the likes, while also having some brawling torps, though the Hipper hull also is slow, has terrible detection for a light cruiser and no means of working around that (Chapayev and Kutuzov for example are pretty solid because one can radar beyond its detection, the other can smoke). Overall, I'd give it the Nürnberg turrets and limit its range also to 16.5 km and buff the reload in return to the 6s.

Is there a ceiling on commander points?
HaachamaShipping replied to Glacis_UK's topic in General Guides
Yes, commanders only can get 19 points. So, choose wisely.
