To quote another forum member, you can tell whether a CV is competent pretty much already by their opening moves. And you'll see those before you leave spawn even. No app needed for that.

"Ideal"... It's just less bonkers. When the planes arrive, you are somewhere between screwed and more screwed compared to when others arrive, based on what you play, given a DD or T7 or lower cruiser typically has a good chance to get wrecked, while BBs just get firebombed or 2-3 torps per drop instead of the 1-2 from others. There still is no real counterplay, the Ark Royal just screws over fewer people than for example a Ranger or Ryuujou can. DDs avoid one drop, then you crossdrop. DDs evade rockets and bombs only if you mess up the approach. Properly executed though, there is no real way to dodge the bombs. Especially on a weaving DD, because you just wait till they swing around the rudder, adjust for that and drop ordnance. Bam, they slide right into the target area and get reduced by 4-7k hp. And anything that is not a DD obviously has a far harder time to dodge anything.

Fighting the Variance with a BB?

Indeed, but it's 0 opportunity cost to take APR1. You lose out on virtually nothing. -
Fighting the Variance with a BB?
HaachamaShipping replied to The_Noob_Commander's topic in General Discussion
Good thing you can easily get like 27+ km range on Montana, given AA mod and secondary mod are kinda useless. Slower shell velocity usually also mean less vertical dispersion, thus a smaller ellipse, meaning shells don't fall as far in front or behind a ship in the first place. It's one of the reasons why NC shells can be so darn accurate apart from 2.0 sigma. -
Remember the 24 million credits with 6 different nations for a sucky T6 premium?

ST - new German commander and test ships.

He's ok for BBs too. I mean, main battery boost and secondary boost? Sure, you won't get a ton of spotting ribbons, but GZ also only gets the plane restoration buff, while the heal most of the time will be wasted and the secondary brawls are for memes. The best you could do would be trying to repair after a brawl, but good luck finding something that hasn't been spotted in a while. At best you can farm the enemy CV for spotting ribbons then. But a GK can get main battery hits and secondary hit ribbons too and benefit from buffs there for absolute memeworthy dpm. -

It is a crappy way, but it seems to be what WG will give us. -

Likely needs a certain amount of them. Also, the spotting ribbon heal really is best on the GZ, because it is the sole German ship that gets spotting ribbons consistently, even in CV games. also, while plane restoration helps GZ, the lack of torp reload buff is not great for German DDs. Making GZ Great Again! It does deserve a buff for real though. -
The best tech tree T8 CV for a noob?
HaachamaShipping replied to koliber_1984's topic in General Discussion
Depends on how much of a noob you want to stay: Very much noob: Implacable. Very easy to aim. Want to actually get good but don't aim too high: Lexington. Pretty much everything can hurt any kind of target. Aiming is harder than Royal Navy planes, but at least it does meaningful damage. Unicum aspirations: Shokaku. When you figure out how to use it, this is the best T8 tech tree CV. If you cannot learn the basics, you suck in any CV. If you have them down though, it isn't hard to learn the advanced things though. -

That would seem to be the case. Though the really lulzy part imo is the repeatable heal from spotting ribbons. Making GZ a CV that can heal! -
Tech tree-wise? Iowa and Yamato. Izumo and Montana are good too. Overall? Thunderer. But Conqueror is not like that.

[ENDING 29/11] Don't Miss the Chance to Get "High School Fleet" Ships and Commanders!
HaachamaShipping replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
The sigma makes a difference when the sigma difference is large or there is room for great dispersion. But this is cruiser dispersion on rather short ranged cruisers. The hit ratio difference is insignificant. Harekaze and Yukikaze both have 6 guns. If you use Harekaze with 3 guns you are using the worst hull option there is. With the Akizuki guns, yes, you have less dpm than Akizuki, but: you are not reliant on a consumable to throw out 8 torps you have the best concealment at the tier, not some of the worst among high tiers. you actually handle like a DD, not like a light cruiser Being able to have excellent stealth, good firepower and good torp power is what makes this ship good. Torp reload booster is going to get you killed vs CVs, so I consider smoke better anyway. Reason Harekaze wins is because the torps might be slower, but the reaction time is not much worse and the range allows launching from beyond radar range of cruisers. And for example against DDs, you need gun power, as you are hard-pressed to win with a torp attack (been there, done that, but guns are way more reliable). So, overall, Harekaze brings reliability. You will always have a tool for the job, except when the CV comes (which kills all DDs). Yukikaze is like a kitchen knife. Good for a variety of things, but mostly a knife. Harekaze is a swiss army knife. It is not as good at the thing the kitchen knife does, but can do pretty much any job you want it to do. Asashio is a bread knife. It does one job that most other knives could do too, but exceptionally well and will do an awful job for many other things. -

T5-7 give more or equal coal than before, T8 gives steel instead of coal. T9 gives more steel than before. T10 gives special containers instead of steel, which we do not yet know the exact content possibilities of. Overall, you are likely to earn less coal (because T8s don't give coal anymore), more steel and some containers. No specials for premiums. I do not see how this is necessarily "depreciated". -
Not in order to explain to you a post you will not get anyway just so you can then try argue for a few pages in a futile discussion with a billion fallacies. I'm not here for your education nor entertainment.

Well, then go think about what is written and what the words could mean, wise guy.

Excuse me, wtf? I guess now we are just openly making stuff up as we go? -
Clearly, when a Fletcher smokes up 8 km away from you, this will smoke up the whole map and rob you of any gameplay options except pushing into that smoke. There exists no option to reposition to a different part of the map where you can do something useful or retreat behind the island you came from in case you fear the torps during a turn. There only is the ability to hit speed boost to go full throttle into a faceful of torps at 2 km range... And where in this engagement do you see the "personal skill"?
-
The grind will be real. But at least no PEF this time. But good god, I don't want to know the missions this time...
-
It aims 10% faster, not 10% tighter. And I find that aim time is not the main issue most of the time. I consider CE already a better skill for the reduced search area of planes and the better stealth on the hull, while on IJN CVs it gives very nice torp bomber stealth too.

Imo, no. For 4 points, just no.

How does a Shimakaze deal with a CV attack?
HaachamaShipping replied to anonym_ED57N4NbHHsY's topic in General Discussion
Lulzily, from T8 onward, CVs start to be armoured to a degree where DD HE doesn't even pen most of the hull. DD in cap is a target you know is there, no need to go looking DD will cost the fewest planes to kill and least amount of sorties Killing DD gives biggest rewards for least effort Winning the game gives extra rewards Especially in something like Ark Royal, you have to get most impact out of what you do, because planes are slow. If you want to just damage whore, play a GZ, get damage on wherever it offers itself as you can fly so many sorties... and even then it'd pay off to kill a DD If you set the team up for a win from the start, THEN you can go damage farming knowing you already did your job to get the +50% victory reward -

How reliable are the USN DBs against DDs these days, btw? I only got Ranger and wondered how it was further up the line. I know back in the day of pinpoint precision, they were absolutely lethal. Did the accuracy nerf change that majorly or not? -

Yet against incompetent CVs, you might as well do that. It's when the halfway competent people arrive that you run into issues. Otherwise, might as well leave the AA on to add it to the team and get free experience.
