New Pan Asian Cruiser line(Good, bad, WTF WG)

Can't criticise them for that, myself. When we got the CV rework they refused to put in AA cruisers and they ruined the ones we had to make CVs popular. If they're putting a counter line for subs in now, I'm happy.

Hmm. Going down the Fen Yang route means low reload speed, low HE pen and occasionally devastating DWTorpedo Salvos. Fen Yang's a DD, so she can have IFHE and CE on a 10 pt captain. You'd need 14pts for a viable high-tier build on one of these new cruisers built that way (assuming you need both CE and IFHE, which are 4 pt cruiser skills). It's also worth saying that Irian has 2 x 5 DWTs capable of hitting cruisers and TRB. Game breaking? Seems not.

Most likely Irian type torps (13.5k/68 knots) but that's risky for a ship with 11-12k detection and only moderate speed.

The new PA line is DDs masquerading as Cruisers. You pays your money, etc....
  5. None of which is particularly relevant. The % improvement to reload I gain from AR is neither here nor there. It's a matter of "how soon until the guns reload"? What we wanted in respect of captain skills was to be able to see when an *enemy* ship had those skills active. Not when ours were active.
  6. Fire is a damage over time effect, with a set amount of damage caused per unit of time. So knowing the exact amount of time a fire has to burn is to know the exact amount of damage that will be caused by the fire. A "progress bar" (which is a scale-less measure, or at leas ton a scale not known to the player) does not provide the same level of detail. I honestly think you're on to a loser with this one - how many of us are currently wearing a watch which shows not hours or seconds, but a "progress bar" showing you how much of the day has elapsed? Such a thing could easily be made but it probably isn't very helpful in telling us the *specific* information that we want the device to provide.
  7. Well, you're wrong. This is vital information on the survivability of the ship and it needs to be in the main part of the GUI. The current WoWs GUI is not cluttered and it's actually very good at giving the player important background information while alllowing them to concentrate on the important stuff (steering, aiming). To do this successfully all the relevant details must be on the main screen, not a side screen which removes player focus *completely*.

WG is clearly chasing certain markets, and you can't blame them for that. The NA and EU markets have probably just had their "golden period" with lockdowns and working from home extending the hours that people have to play. That's about to go into reverse, so they're going to need new players from somewhere to keep growth on track.

The Black Prince / Bellona design was hawked out for sale after WW2, but the Tier VI is the full five turret Dido design. WG just wanted that "lots of turrets" look and picked whichever ship would work.
  10. I will finish the German DDs, the Dutch cruisers are OK ish. American slow BBS are dull, Italian BBs are frustrating. However the problem isn't the silver lines themselves. It's the speed at which lines are coming out (which gives no time to savour the lines, enjoy the new playstyles like we used to do), the sheer number of ships I need to play to advance, coupled with WG's tendency to release a Tier VII/IX/X resource ship, which is generally good enough for fun gameplay / resource grinding purposes. Do I need a Yamato? No, I have a Musashi. Do I need Republique? No, I have JB. Do I need a Grosser whatknot? Nope, I have Pommern. etc etc. That means progress on the silver line stalls, because it's resource heavy and often involves playing a load of games in a giant donkey of a Tier IX ship which I'd rather skip. (Hello Lion, Seattle, etc).

They look like Kiev turrets, rather than Ochakov, which makes sense, as the whole line seems to have DD/Secondary guns as their main battery. But I suspect we will see "cruiser reload" of around 6/7 seconds rather than DD reload.

Bit hard on the people who live in Jinan city, that. Isn't it about the size of London?

Dido class as tier VI Pan Asian cruiser

That's a very WG view. No-one is angry at people in Asia who may be happy about getting a line of cruisers. We hope they enjoy "their" ships. What people are cross about - justifiably - is that WG haven't given the *single most requested real world RN cruiser not yet in the game* to one of the navies in which it served (RN, RNZN, Pakistan Navy). The Dido class was very varied, appeared in lots of configurations, they could have announced Dido as an RN Premium on the stream and then added a variant version for the PA line, and everyone would have been happy. Instead they've made people annoyed. There's just a general out-of-touch oafishness about them at the moment - if they can get it wrong, they will, and they'll be surprised at the reaction and say this is what the spreadsheet tells them most people want.

We haven't seen the reload times yet. I have the feeling these will be good DD/sub/plane killers, will threaten BBs with their DWTs, but will lose against equal tier cruisers due to their small HP pools and guns which might go pew pew pew a lot but won't always do damage. It's an interesting line, although I do wish they'd put something new on the Tier X - something with Khaba guns might have been fun.

Any way to get old ships?

I *like* my Fen Yang, but I wouldn't say that if I played in Randoms. :)

Dido class as tier VI Pan Asian cruiser

Gotcha. They *are* a bit flat, though. And not a bad gun, if the Montana's secondaries are anything to go by. 1800 HE damage, 4s reload, but that armour pen will be challenging at high tiers. Wonder what they're going to do with the base reload for Jinan - are they going to take the Fen Yang option and give her a full 8s gun reload in compensation for DWTs with TRB?

Now I KNOW WeeGee is trolling me.

EL is a good ship. And I'd *love* Indomitable. But I did get a GZ from a container a while back so I know how you feel. That ship should come with a sound loop of Edwin Starr's "War", because it's good for absolutely nothin'.

Dido class as tier VI Pan Asian cruiser

Yes, but not a WW2 era cruiser. They were too old by the time Malaysia became a "safe" ally. Odd turrets, though. Not boxy, like the DD ones, or rounded, like the Austin/Worcester. They look oddly flat, like Seattle. They're certainly not the ones from any DD in game, even the Pan-Asians.

Dido class as tier VI Pan Asian cruiser

I think so. I would have liked Taksin at Tier V but I guess that was a model too far for WG.

Dido class as tier VI Pan Asian cruiser

An awareness of geo-politics might have helped, I suppose. The chances of Britain supplying Malaysia or Indonesia with warships is pretty thin, I think. So it's a line of small-calibre gun cruisers? That's an interesting idea. V is Arethusa / Huang He (why not the Etna class? VI is Dido VII is Oakland VIII is Soviet - those are the same guns as Kiev IX looks like a sort of Juneau / Seattle hybrid X is Austin

    Oh, is that the Babur?
  22. I quite fancy the Carnot (committed Francophile here) but it's still a bit much even with the discount, and I spent enough on the Missouri event.

    Super containers? lol not really!

200 Special Signals here. Not complaining about that, I have ships to level!

Well... based on the fact that this is a 6 in gun cruiser line with Italian, Spanish, British and US influences, you've got early Protected crusers, Tier IV and V are probably quite Emerald/Hawkins like, Tier VI is a Leander style ship, VII is a Brooklyn, VIII is that 1950s cruiser (which is a Town class cruiser in a modern rig), IX is the 1124A Vickers design (Neptune, basically) and X could be a Seattle / Worcester style US post war CL. There's already been some discussion on the US forums about this where they came to the same conclusions about possible designs. https://forum.worldofwarships.com/topic/219348-pan-american-tree/
