  1. A perfect example (and one that can *definitely* be seen in WoWs) is the perception of British and German capital ships during World War 2. The loss of Hood was a psychological blow as much as a tactical one - it fed into a perceived weakness about British ships which went back to Jutland. This is completely reasonable, of course - no-one wants to go to war in a vehicle prone to catastrophic and sudden destruction - but the much-vaunted German capital ships were just as likely to be destroyed due to design weaknesses (the loss of Graf Spee, Bismarck and Scharnhorst being entirely attributable to single hits disabling key ship systems).

    German Containers: Really Wargaming?

Depends... x10 Containers is £29.85. Weimar is £25, Brandenburg £36. I would expect you to get one of those from ten boxes. The point for WG is that you've spent £30 you might not have done otherwise.
  3. Neither do I, but Averof, Hydra and Vasilissa Olga are all ships I'd be pleased to see in WoWs. So There. :)

    What keeps you playing WoWS?

That's the problem with the stimulus based model of participation that WG is using. No stimulus = no participation. You end up with players that can't remember *why* they are playing, they just play because of new and shiny, and developers who use up all their best ideas for minimal value. It's pure late capitalism - churning through decades of stored interest and goodwill for a year or two's maximum profit.

The sate of Co Ops today.

If WG can't be bothered to code new Operations then why not just give us Co-op+ mode with Ops standard bots? (I know why, because it would divide the player base and there aren't enough people etc etc).
  6. Funnily enough... I haven't finished these either. USN slow BBs are just too slow and disinteresting. I have better Tier IX and X ships for this mode. With the Italian ones... I have a Roma and a Marco Polo. That's all I need. Roma is better than Vittorio Veneto, and Marco is plagued by the same problems as the rest of the line but at least has a decent gun calibre. I am still playing the Dutch Cruisers and have recently reactivated my Oland. The Dutch Cruiser grind is continuing in the hope that Haarlem offers some improved armour and gun performance over DZP, a ship that I just cannot make work. Oland is fun if played aggressively, but you have to go full co-op Torp build on your captain - to hell with concealment and RPF, you need to buff floods, base damage and reload time, and if you've got any points left, buff the main battery as well.

    Support for Jingles

Ah, poor Boo and poor Jingles. That's a difficult video to listen to and no mistake. Grief at the loss of a much-loved pet can rip you up in ways you don't expect. FWIW, all my best wishes to him and anyone else in the same situation.

    German Containers: Really Wargaming?

Good ship, though. Congrats on getting lucky!
  9. There are already numerous cruisers with 16-20 torpedoes. Emerald, Mogami, Ibuki, Zao, for example. The TRB on these new PA cruisers looks like the problem and I can see that being nerfed when it gets into proper testing.

    Farewell Italian community forum

That's very sad. I had seen TheWarJac around and always found him decent and pleasant to deal with, and the loss of a national language forum is never a good thing. Bit disappointing if WG can't manage to keep it going given the prominence of Italian ships in the game, surely that must attract enough players to be worthwhile?

WOOOHOOO WG! The Iron Dog is here (and “real”)

Derfflinger could do with some WD40 on the turrets - they are almost Warspite like in their stickiness. Enjoying the line so far, though.

Dear WG - why Russian language

I can just see CBS sitting back like Doctor Evil and asking WG for "One Million Dollars..." for those licensing rights.
  13. My bad, indeed it did. I was thinking of the Cervantes class, which would be a pick for Tier V or VI (sort of RN DD Leader type).
  14. I think a gunboat line is a very good idea, especially as DDs get balanced quite hard at higher Tiers if they don't have pen bonuses like what the IJN ones do. The Pan-American line has *so* many modern post-war DDs with plenty of Dakka, but they're not likely to get out of hand... add in a few (but hard hitting) torps and you could have fun. We've mentioned 20 De Julio (Argentina) and Almirante Williams (Chile), there's also the Nueva Esparta class (Venezeula) which are very similar to the Battle/Daring class , the Peruvian Colonel Bolognesi (Friesland, basically) , the Brazilian Acre Class (a sort of British/US Gallant / Sims hybrid)... plenty of material there.

    Brandenburg or Tirpitz

Odin is a big cruiser, quite Graf Spee like. Brandenburg is a proper Battle Cruiser. I think I like her more than Agir, tbh.

Which coal cruiser would be good for Co-op?

Carnot is very very very fast. Salem is also good. But I probably wouldn't take a cruiser to Co-op when I could take a fast BB.
  17. Very nice, but they have competition... Almirante Williams - Chilean Tier X / XI Destroyer South American markets were a significant opportunity for European ship builders in the 1950s and 1960s, with many advanced modern builds being offered to the governments of naval powers such as Peru, Colombia, Venezuela and Chile. In the early 1950s the Chilean government decided to modernise its destroyer fleet and chose a design from Vickers, which descended from the Battle and Daring classes but offered modern sensor arrays and a new 4 inch autoloading gun, the Vickers Mark Q. The Almirante Williams presents the player with a twist on the British destroyer playstyle. Her main battery firepower and sensor load out is fearsome to other destroyers, but limited against larger targets. Her guns are single mounts and firing angles are not ideal. Her torpedoes are a cruiser set with relatively rapid reload and can be deployed outside of radar range - but they won't deter a well protected battleship from a pursuit. Her AA is 1950s era and very good for a ship of her class and size - she is more reliant on the impact of flak bursts for damage than a Halland, but the impact of a properly deployed sector reinforcement is greater due to her main battery's improved reload. Ships characteristics: Hit Points - 20,250. Plating 19mm Main battery - 4 x 1 102mm Range: 11.2 km / Rate of Fire: 45 rpf / 1.3 seconds HE Damage: 1350 / HE Penetration: 20mm (1/5 rule applied) AP Damage: 1650 Torpedo tubes - 1 x 5 533 mm Range: 13.5km / Speed 62 Knots / Damage 16767 / Reload 96s AA defense: 4 x 1 102mm / 6 x 1 Breda Type 564 40/70 ASW armament: 2 x 3 Squid launchers Maximum speed - 34.5 kt. Turning circle radius - 630m. Rudder shift time – 4.6 s. Surface detectability – 7.5 km. Air detectability – 3.5 km. Available consumables: Slot 1 - Damage Control Party Slot 2 - Smoke Generator / Surveillance Radar Slot 3 - Short-Range Hydroacoustic Search / Engine Boost Slot 4 - Repair Party (The image is from Wikipedia and presents Almirante Williams in 1980s trim with a helipad replacing "Y" gun).

    Stop crying about subs

Subs are just subs. They're so dull they haven't even developed their own nonclamenture yet. Sometimes people try and make them exciting and call them "hunter-killers" or things of that nature, but that just makes me wonder what the other ones are. "Floaty-Abouty"? Machinery and range had an impact but the main role of torpedo boats was as a fast coastal raider (intially) to counter blockades. Blockade was still a valid naval tactic in the First World War, but by then submarines had taken up the role of maintaining a particular station and the blockading fleet had become something which could sortie rapidly as needed. As a result, a specific type of destroyer was needed to be capable of accompanying the fleet to sea: they needed high speed, good seakeeping (but not necessarily endurance) and a heavy armament of torpedoes and guns (for offence and fleet defence, respectively). The KM nonclamenture seemed to reflect that quite nicely, I thought. Even in WW2 there seemed to be a clear definition in roles - the Elbing/T-22/Type 39 Torpedo Boat was a multi-purpose ship for enclosed seas or coastal operations, the Zerstorers were generally larger for operations in the North Sea and Atlantic.
  19. Bolzano is a great idea for a Premium, but WG would have to saddle it with SAP, when really it's much more fun than that. Light cruiser speed and armour but CA guns, a decent torpedo broadside, HE/AP, Gorizia's nimbleness, perhaps a choice between Smoke and Hydro? Could be quite fun, an ideal Tier VII Premium.

    Historical ships.

True. But if you put together a Tier VIII Convoy mode you'll find that around 40% of the ships will be Tirpitzez, and the other 40% will be Richelieu. You just can't tell people what to play, I suppose.

    Historical ships.

Hello old chap. We had that last year, it was called "Axis Vs Allies". It was quite fun, but not that well balanced due to a lack of radar on the Axis side.

We need more Tech Tree Lines

I like the sound of this. Do they start big and melt into small by the end of the game?

WoWs business model outpaced the UI

You don't have to buy anything to get VdT/Moltke or Derfflinger (and probably Mackensen, too). Completing personal challenges will give you sufficient Tokens. The advantage of Early Access is that you get the ship with all modules researched (but not equipped) and some people consider that a worthwhile time/resorce save. Yes, evil WG monetisation preying on FOMO etc but just take the free stuff and play the darned ships to level them.

    Suggested changes for Submarines

It's a Tech company thing. Assessment, Testing and Quality Assurance go out of the window when deadlines are tight. Adding single fire torpedoes to subs just before releasing them to Randoms was utterly short sighted. They always think people are dazzled by new and shiny. Players are more often concerned about what they've already got and why the ships they invested in are suddenly no use against this new threat.
