That's even funnier when you consider the ships involved - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Wikinger. You can see why certain ships got thought of as Jonahs - The Eckholdt seemed to be one of those.

Oh gosh yes. HMS Sparrowhawk and HMS Broke. You can't blame them, really - in the middle of an absolute melee of a night action in the Battle of Jutland with large chunks of the Broke having been blown apart by shellfire. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Sparrowhawk_(1912) The Broke seems to be have been a latter day torpedo ram. She ended up in another notable naval engagement - the Battle of the Dover Strait - in which she rammed and sank the German Destroyer G42.

If I was going to pick a part of the Royal Navy to brag about it probably wouldn't be the British Pacific Fleet, tbh, and it's really only the in-game Soviet BBs (and perhaps the Petro) which fall under the heading of Stalinist pipe-dreams. Many of the Soviet/Russian DDs and Cruisers in game, especially those of the Black Sea fleet, had arduous and distinguished careers in both World Wars.

It's the old "big gun" Gaede with some tweaked consumables. I did play that one and quite enjoyed it when it was in the Tech Tree but I haven't missed it much of late.

She does have the single-shot torps. As does the Jurua, curiously. What both of those have over the RN silver ships is a substantial stealth torp window - 2km - which is pretty handy, esp. as they have the Engine Boost consumable too. But they both feel fragile compared to some of the other DD lines (esp. the French), and let's *not* mention their AA.

Tulsa coming in 0.10.10 for 228k coal. Opinions? Worth it?

I don't know any songs about the last three.... (and Galveston is a name with heritage in the world of US cruisers): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denver-class_cruiser https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Galveston_(CL-93) -
Hello old chap! I was hoping the liberal use of exclamation marks would reveal the ironic intent, but evidently not. We often have a "xxx in the shop" thread and I thought I would start this one because a) I didn't know what the ship was, b) it didn't look very good and c) I didn't understand the appeal of the captain. So all enthusiasm was ironic. I now understand the joke with the Skipper and the VO and I hope German speakers get as much fun from the joke as I do from captains like Jingles and Yotaroh. With regard to WG - Germany's a big market and they will probably sell a shipyard worth of these things to German players regardless of whatever I do. We've pointed out the Captain is available from the Armory and probably saved some people a few quid as a result. Otherwise I hope people spend their money wisely and enjoy what they get for their hard-earned etc, I'm sure they don't need any sermons from me. xx

I really need the next premium US Cruiser to be Galveston. Then we'd have a Jimmy Webb set. (Phoenix, Wichita, Galveston). Tulsa is a good song too, mind. -
USS "The Moon on A Stick" confirmed!

I have enough coal, so it's a choice between her and Carnot. -
When your salvo celebrates the 6th year of WoWs

Don't the SuperShips have some form of lock on mechanism? I thought that was their "thing"? -
Ho ho. :) It's about 17.5 euro / 20 USD. So very much an impulse buy, hence the question about the ship. But it doesn't sound great, and not speaking German the skipper VO will fall on deaf ears.

Ah, I've seen the turrets now. The actual RN ones had built up structures around the them as they were UD mountings... (see below). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Scylla_(98)#/media/File:HMS_Scylla_1942_IWM_FL_2932.jpg

IDK. He might be about to jump through a window while firing pistols, action movie style, or perhaps break into the 2022 German Eurovision entry. It's hard to tell these days. Edit: He's available in the Armory for 1500 Doubloons. According to the description there....

I think there is demand for a Dido class as a premium ship. We did a poll a while back and it was the most requested RN Premium. So why WG can't give us what we want.... I don't know. This way they get to launch their new PA line and £15 for an RN premium which I *would* buy.

Why not just make the 113mm gun hull a Royal Navy Tier VI ship and give her some love from the RN CL Box'O'Gimmicks?

What exactly are you supposed to learn/grind/farm in Co op in 4 mins and 9 sec?
invicta2012 replied to SeaWolf7's topic in General Discussion
The average game today is 5 minutes long. This one was a bit "blink and you miss it" though. -
Definitely. A Premium Tier IX generally ends a co-op game in profit, when you'd need a good game to do the same in a Silver ship. Agir is not my favourite KM Tier IX - that's Pommern - but I'm sure a cruiser fan would enjoy playing the ship.

Communities usually cleave 60/40 over pretty much anything and most of the time both arguments are convincing. The annoyance with SAP was largely based on high tier Italian cruisers and their ability to near one-shot destroyers. People didn't want more of that. And fair enough. But .... many other players otherwise found cruiser SAP to be more difficult to use than HE and on BBs such as Marco, it's often pointless - by the time you've got a good enough angle to land good SAP hits, you might as well have used AP. It also doesn't help that effective use of SAP requires different aiming strategies to HE and traditional AP, which makes for a balancing issue - casual / new players would find the ship weak, but allowing them to get quick and easy results would make the ship's gunnery over powered in the hands of a good player. So we end up with WG's traditional balancing tools - frustrating sigma, dispersion and reload, and the Italian line ends up being a bit vexing to use, situationally weak, requiring new strategies, and obtains a bad rep. as a result. The problem with Hizen is very similar. 12 x 410 is a Tier X armament, really, so it couldn't be left being *too* good, and WG applied their least attractive balancing method - slow reload and derpy dispersion. Take aim and pray to RNGesus, because it's a long time till the next shot. This makes it less fun, salvo for salvo, than Amagi, Izumo or Musashi. So why play it? Dockyard ships are curiosities, variations, Marmite boats. The only one I've been wholly satisfied with is Odin and that was because I wanted something at Tier VIII in the Spee/Scharnhorst vein. Marlborough looks no less polarising and I think many will only participate in the event because they want Repulse.

It *used* to be fun. Hectic melees where torpedo ships were kings. Then it got spoilt by Hosho seal clubbing.

invicta2012 replied to SeaWolf7's topic in General Discussion
Gosh yes. Being able to dominate a Killer Whale or Aegis game in Ryujo/Ark Royal, or a Raptor/Newport game in a German CV, is great fun and good practice. You'll get none of that in a co-op game. Can't wait until WG is over all this Halloween nonsense and I can get back to having fun in normal Ops. -
How many premium subs do you expect to see in the next year?
invicta2012 replied to anonym_ntfKigmJ0k9e's topic in General Discussion
They're just submarines, though. They're all HMS Floaty McPing Face, nothing distinctive about them. What will WG do to make them worthy of people's cash? -
Warspite secondary build for co-op?
invicta2012 replied to CaravellaCaravan's topic in General Discussion
I find I can get some success with her in Co-op, and her size and handiness makes her more enjoyable than Agincourt. But she is very slow. -
Warspite secondary build for co-op?
invicta2012 replied to CaravellaCaravan's topic in General Discussion
If you want to play with secondary BBs in Co-op then Oklahoma, Agincourt, PEF, Mackensen, Normandie are the way to go. You need some decent speed, lots of secondaries, and a ship which doesn't lose too much from taking a secondary focused skill set. -
What's next WG? Premium income nerf?
invicta2012 replied to ARE_YOU_HUMAN's topic in General Discussion
Tier IXs that I'm grinding tend to need it.
