If the Snowflake event was tied to "when it snows where you live" mine would be happening in May 2023.

It's not very good, so you're not missing out on much. But yes, WG are clearly having trouble keeping the population up in Randoms and Ranked. It's a shame, but these gimmick modes are always hard to sustain.

How do you like the current "Coal" ship offerings in the Armory? Anything new possibly incoming by the end of the year?
invicta2012 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
It's not, y'know. Perfectly decent DD, esp. with buffs and torp-focused captain skills. But perhaps not worth a quarter of a million coal. -
You can also wait until they are fully released and then play them through. This isn't a bad option, actually - they're very fun ships to play at lower tiers.

Exactly like that. The video where that Iowa got marmalised by a triple Golden Leeuw drop really did give people the wrong impression about the Dutch cruisers.

Or... Introduce new ships into random games Watch community create "OP!" panic over YouTube video of the one occasion where the ship is powerful (usually where testers have formed a division) React to community panic by over-balancing ships Release ships and see wider community make snap judgment that the new line is TRASH! Hard Pass from me! Wallet Closed! (etc)

Two supercruiser lines proposals
invicta2012 replied to totally_potato's topic in General Discussion
12 inch guns on a cruiser seems a natural limit - not sure if it was ever a 1920s/1930s treaty rule but it seems logical for this game. Intermediate calibres (like the 9.2 inch British guns, and the 10 inch they considered) are quite interesting. I can't remember the source, but I recall seeing that the British Admiralty calculated that a "heavy" cruiser had two salvos in order to land a significant strike in a duel with a similar enemy. After that, a light cruiser (of similar tonnage) with 6 inch guns would outmatch the heavy cruiser through weight of fire. -
No, it's a Silver ship. Tech Tree Tier X Pan Asian cruiser. Everyone can have one. Edit: FWIW, the torps should be balanced like Asashio, rather than Yue Yang. BBs and CVs only. That would allow other cruisers - especially radar cruisers - to have a counter play role. Edit Edit: It might also make Vigilance and the Torpedo Detection Module great again. The problem with those DWTs is their detection range.

Two supercruiser lines proposals
invicta2012 replied to totally_potato's topic in General Discussion
I think 11inch guns would be fine, as they are on Graf Spee. The line should probably have no more guns than Scharnhorst or any greater calibre so I'm not keen on cruisers having 380/15 inch guns, those ships should be battleships. -
US BB's. Vermont or Montana Line... or None?
invicta2012 replied to Sir_Sinksalot's topic in General Discussion
If it helps, there are no French BBs with 16 inch guns in the game. That's because of Iowa. There's no need. Fast, flanking BB which is strong enough in all areas? Already got one... -
When you got pinged by sub, how can you which direction that ping came from ?
invicta2012 replied to Herbstnebel1975's topic in General Discussion
It's not surprising people don't know. It's mentioned at the bottom of a news article from August (https://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/general-news/submarines-in-ranked-and-co-op-battles/) in a kind of "oh yeah, and if you're not playing submarines" sort of way. Really does need to be stickied somewhere. -
What justifiable reason for this inexcusable MM in co-op?
invicta2012 replied to BobcatNobaru's question in Q&A Section
It can seem intimidating. But a tier V DD can sink a Tier VII BB - especially a DD with as many torps as the Nicholas has. Don't waste your HP early on and - if you spawn near it - that Colorado is a nice fat sack of XP for you to collect. -
Seem to have introduced an element of roll compensation in to aiming, which wasn't in the game previously.

Gibraltar 59,000 Research points in 0.10.10

Ironic for ships which are made of wet tissue paper. -
It seems that the update messed up aiming quite a bit
invicta2012 replied to Andrewbassg's topic in General Discussion
I posted on the earlier patch comments thread that I thought the UI scaling was wrong when I first tried to play after 0.10.10 went live. That screwed my aim up completely. It has been better since I got the UI looking right on screen (no faded edges, as if it was being scaled up or down improperly).- 40 replies

Well, Trident missiles would make for a short and productive game.

I've just noticed that. At full speed, the subs in rough seas look like the Scillonian. Don't know what the Scillonian is? It's the ferry that goes between Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. A notoriously lumpy crossing. PS It starts with the smoother part of the ride. Click to about 40 seconds to see what happens when you get out into the open water.

I did have to reset the graphics settings in the game and in the driver control panel as there were definitely some scaling issues going on after the new patch loaded - the UI was all fuzzy and out of focus. I am definitely seeing FPS drops (this tends to be because I scroll in and out of binocular view) so there may be some other settings tweaks to make. Overall performance seems a bit better, though.

What's the best looking ship in your opinion?
invicta2012 replied to CaravellaCaravan's topic in General Discussion
That's why everyone likes St Louis/Charleston. So many guns that *something* is going to hit, even if you can't aim. -

.....Oleg chugged all the way back to the Baltic again, only to be sunk by the perfidious British in Kronstadt harbour, after they'd decided that torpedo-toting motor launches were a jolly good wheeze when it came to annoying the Bolsheviks and running away quickly afterwards. Oleg is a beautiful ship in the game but completely useless to play - she has mortars for main guns. -

Richelieu and La Gal. I love the fact that La Gal has an engine room where other nations would have put a turret and a magazine - she's all about speed. -
I'd love a T Class submarine in the game. An eight-torp broadside would mean no need for any daft homing mechanics and there are enough notables in the class (Torbay, Thrasher, Turbulent, Tally Ho) to make it worthwhile. I think that's four VCs from those ships alone.... The whole Royal Navy leadership tradition was one of taking the initiative. Sometimes suicidally so - Cradock at Coronel, Arbuthnot at Jutland - but failing to engage the enemy when there was an opportunity to do so would have brought shame and court-martial. The old quote about the English occasionally shooting an Admiral to encourage the others was *entirely* true. 1939 was the "Year of Maximum Danger" in RN planning terms (see also 1954). What they couldn't have foreseen was the expansion of the Japanese Navy in the 1930s or the amount of national GDP (between 25-35%) that the Japanese were spending on naval and aviation development as a result of 1930s militarism. To say that things are "not often discussed" is an awful cliche these days but the aggressive way in which the Japanese military destroyed Japanese democracy in the 30's is astonishing - naval officers assassinated the Prime Minister, ffs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_15_Incident https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/February_26_Incident I'm not sure there's a book on British carrier development - there should be - but I don't think they missed anything. The Kido Butai had the immeasurable advantage of being able to operate en masse, close to home - concentration of forces being probably the most important factor in the success of naval aviation warfare. The RN was never going to be able to put together a Pacific Fleet capable of repelling an expansionist Japan and they knew it.

Always has been.

She's a museum ship. She's also a post-war Whiskey class submarine and almost certainly carried torpedoes tipped with nuclear warheads. Dodge *that*, Yankees! Main Weakness: Sweden .https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_submarine_S-363 Devonshire and London are pretty hard hitting for heavy cruisers, if Canarias gets their qualities as well as the burst mode that could be a bit owchy.

I can't say I would want to fly a sortie in one of these...
