San Diego nerfs - discussion on the NA forum
invicta2012 replied to Verblonde's topic in General Discussion
Thanks! I would wonder about how effective SAP would be at that range (we know Atlanta's shells are mortar shells at any distance). I'm interested in their approach., esp. with San Diego. It's like watching WW1 gunnery practice - they're aiming short, then aiming high, and the target is obviously somewhere in between. It's a sensible process, but I do wonder why they've gone for 8 and 5 second reloads when they've just released a line of small cruisers with reloads between 6.5 and 5.5..... If they don't like the fuss over testing then maybe WG should revert to the test ship practices we had a while back where concept ships had fake names (Columbia, Giulio Bruto, the Le Terrible analogue etc) rather than announcing a named ship - it would make it so much easier to work on a ship's mechanics without the constant chorus of disappointment because WG's concept ships don't match the player base's view of what the *actual* ship would be. -

They made Tone, though. Which *is* fun, even though it shares the same weak armour layout. It's a shame, really - they've mucked up the core functions of the ship for an MBRB gimmick. She would have been fine with good concealment, Atago's torp angles and eight guns on a 15s reload. Just a straightforward, practical CA. -
San Diego nerfs - discussion on the NA forum
invicta2012 replied to Verblonde's topic in General Discussion
San Diego's set up was always going to be difficult to balance. I can understand the nerfs, really, esp. as she can make use of Heavy HE/SAP without a concealment penalty - that testing version was capable of a 14 gun broadside with 2640 damage per shell, and 36mm pen, on a 5 second reload. Something like 443,000 SAP DPM before the MBRB comes into play. With 36mm pen. My Bayard would like a word, because she's got half that DPM, even with IFHE - (12 gun broadside, 2200 per HE shell, 37mm pen, 7.5s reload = 211,200 ). Mainz, too - 12 guns, 1700 per shell, 38mm pen, 6s reload = 204,000). (I don't have the maths for this at the moment, but LWM calculates the MBRB affected SAP DPM of testing San Diego to be 441,000, so presumably the potential DPM of testing San Diego + Heavy SAP was at least 485,000. I've looked at my Smolensk, which has Heavy HE, and using the same calculation she has a DPM of 422,400. With 22mm of HE pen (26 with IFHE). And that version of San Diego can see see tier VI. Atlanta, btw, is 326,700) I'm sure San Diego has a lower range than either but if you can work the opportunity, that was a ludicrous potential damage output for any small cruiser to have. -
L. Tarigo, what's people experinces so far?
invicta2012 replied to Ashleyphotog's topic in General Discussion
I agree, I think building for speed and working the detection drop-off side of things as hard as possible is the only way to play the mid-tier Italian DDs. I do think they have myriad frustrations and there are lots of occasions when I think I probably would have done better in another ship, but I guess that's why we have large ports and lots of ship choices available. -
I think WG gave her the authentic reload time of those guns, but that would feel a bit anaemic at Tier IX. I suppose I like the idea of a light cruiser which could kite, could harrass, could reposition if it wanted to, with good range, rudder and fuel smoke for flexible, mobile, cover. The current high tier CLs are all about dodging from one piece of cover to another, which makes them feel quite static... the DZP type could be a little more like a CL version of Wichita, which would be something new.

[NA Forum] Several very big threads about "Separation of Economy from Camos" - worth reading!
invicta2012 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
There will be no problem with T6/7 in the new system (or indeed Tier VIII). The scaling becomes much more tricky on Tier IX and X and anyone playing those Tiers consistently and not achieving good combat results is likely to need Premium Time and Premium Ships to keep their economy ticking over. But that's OK.... isn't it? -
Not really. D7P is a very poor ship, a fragile cruiser with Tier VI CL gun power which has given up far too much for that AirStrike gimmick. What I *might* buy, though, is Coronel Bolognesi - Tier IX, DZP Hull with Munchen guns (38mm HE pen/5s reload speed), DZP Damage (2150 HE/3000 AP), Italian fuel smoke and short range radar. This is an 8 gun CL with no torpedoes. She has to match Sejong and Seattle (12 guns each) and be capable of besting them at range (with skilled play and use of her range advantage), she also has to be able to be able to knock out heavy DDs like the Italians and Germans and live to tell the tale.

Well, this is the thing. If you do that in a Tier X Tech Tree ship, it will cost you 60k more credits in the new system than it would have done in the old one. The new system's distribution is very much more V shaped than the old one so extreme events have a greater impact. -
Wujing, Cuniberti, Tarigo, Bearn, Dido, Rahmat. All providing something new (at least at the moment).

Tiger 59 vs Belfast 43 for PvE, which one is better?
invicta2012 replied to Siagor's topic in PvE Corner
She looks like a decent ship, but do you think Edinburgh is better? I have to say I do like the Embra and I think she's a fine ship for PvE; it took me a very long time to be brave with a ship which is so fragile but it's a strong package (I seem to remember when they had 1 v 1 ranked it was highly rated). -
Separation of economic bonuses from camos and signals
invicta2012 replied to Jethro_Grey's topic in General Discussion
Because your secondaries are 4% more accurate than they were last week? That's the bit I'm most worried about, really. All these high tier Secondary monsters getting a buff. -
Something wrong with wows-numbers?
invicta2012 replied to Admi_De_Ruiter's topic in General Discussion
Removal of CIS server results? WoWS Numbers is only as good as the data provides through the API, wouldn't surprise me to see that data affected by the background changes to the company structure. -

invicta2012 replied to Siagor's topic in PvE Corner
God no. Tigger has 4 guns and no torpedoes. In PvE, you need both. RN Cruisers at Tier VIII are in the strange position where the silver ships are better than the Premiums.... I honestly wouldn't buy either of Belfast or Tiger. -
Separation of economic bonuses from camos and signals
invicta2012 replied to Jethro_Grey's topic in General Discussion
It is a little bit confusing. But they are *trying* to be thorough and not send the community into a collective conniption. Basically they are separating in-game aesthetics from in-game economics, and using this to re-work the game's economy. Based on the what they've said, in the post-rebalance world, players who used to run just a camo + a basic signal in a game will get more Credits, XP, Free XP and Captain XP per game in the new system. However the days of signal-stacking for massive results from single matches look as if they are coming to a close. They are also removing the -4% dispersion buff (which most camos used to give) from the game, which comes across as an attempt to put Deadeye back into the game when no-one's looking. I'm not in favour of this last one, tbh. I think cruisers and DDs will feel that nerf quite heavily. -
I had that coupon, and I bought the Constellation with it. She's not slow. :) I can see why she has a bad reputation for PVP but for PVE games she's just dandy. 16 inch guns, torps, secondaries, high speed (faster than a fair few high tier cruisers). There's little to dislike and she doesn't need a specific captain or anything like that.

Ships that you like/are strong, but you just cannot make work
invicta2012 replied to tadaMonika's topic in General Discussion
American battleships. Pretty much all of them. I take out Missouri - a ship I love - and there's a total absence of targets. Georgia? Zooms into battle with thoroughly mediocre results. I wanted to love North Carolina but she's not quite fast enough, not quite accurate enough, not quite well armoured enough to be fun. Massachusetts has been eclipsed as a secondary monster by things which are faster (hello Zieten)... the only ones that ever seem to work are Iowa and (god help me) Constellation. Carnot is another one. Great speed, but no torps, small calibre secondaries, and guns that often don't. I find I can work great angles and positions, find lots of broadsides, and the ships doesn't take advantage of them. I've tried focusing on citadels, focusing on casemates, bows and sterns... just doesn't seem to do enough damage for the positions it gets into.- 45 replies

Separation of economic bonuses from camos and signals
invicta2012 replied to Jethro_Grey's topic in General Discussion
According to the detailed explanation: "Permanent Camouflages. When the change comes out, you will get permanent bonuses with the best available values of your permanent camouflages for a particular ship. Any bonuses worse than the standard ones for a Tier are upgraded to them. Post-battle service cost reduction bonus is replaced with credits bonus: for each 2% of the service cost reduction you get +1% credits instead. If a camouflage did not have a bonus to free XP, or commander XP, but had a bonus to XP, then you will receive not only a bonus to XP, but also bonuses to other types of XP. This is done for the reason that now bonuses to different XP types are not related to each other." So if you have all three permacamos for Graf Spee, for example (War Paint, National, Type 10), you should be able to pick the visuals of any of them while always receiving the best possible Economic bonuses from the three (which is National - Credits +35%, XP + 100%). You would also get the global benefit of the new system (so +5% credits, +100% to Commander XP and Free XP, and your +35% current credit bonus would be uprated to the next Tier in the new camo system, so would become +40%). Not sure it's time for that yet. It looks as if there's a general boost to mid level economic earning abilities but something of a nerf to the more extreme ones where people stack multiple flags. -
How do you like new "Silver" Italian DD line?
invicta2012 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
You'll enjoy Cuniberti, as she has more a comfortable gun range; still a relatively weak torp ship, though and the MM becomes more challenging. I *do* play mid tiers, though and I can't say I like Aviere much at all, she's a sort of scavenger DD that only starts to influence a game in the later stages, when it may be too late... a clever opponent will be able to negate her SAP, esp. with her horrid gun range. Tarigo I will keep for the aesthetics (and her event perma camo) but there are better existing options. -
I think this has something to do with the large number of players from the Ukraine who don't want to be involved with the CIS server in any way (Take a look at the thread in the newcomers section). So the instructions may be a little vague so that anyone from that area can be waived through (as they should) but you may have more aggro doing it from the UK.

It's there for defence against UFOs and Piers Morgan. As any fule know.

How do you like new "Silver" Italian DD line?
invicta2012 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Italian DDs don't have the damage saturation mechanics, or the speed, of the French. They only really thrive on people not knowing what they are. I'm sure a talented player can make use of them but I wouldn't bet on the Italian winning a 1 v 1 vs Z-39 if the player skill levels were matched. The big German has a massive advantage in health, stealth, torp damage, consumables... Tarigo is a nice ship but once people know how to counter SAP it will fall behind the existing top tier VII DDs. -

invicta2012 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
That is the thing about the mid-tiers. Their smokes are not about wild YOLO runs, they're about escaping and surviving to do more damage later, especially picking off damaged DDs or Cruisers. You may get some mileage from that playstyle but I'm not seeing anything I can do as well with a French or German DD.... -
There could be Zeppelins, though. Lurking airships reporting back on fleet movements. Perhaps the Americans thought it was probably a bit far to be worried about that sort of thing....

Took a break from the game and now all my captains have less than subpar skills and apparently I have to pay real money to fix them
invicta2012 replied to xXGundam96Xx's topic in General Discussion
They regularly send out e-mails to retired players with incentives to return to the game. It wouldn't be difficult to send out one with a substantial gift of Elite Captain XP, which would get around the OP's retraining problem. -
For reasons WG hasn't really made very consistent. In any case, WG has given the majority of ships which (historically) had no ASW an ASW Airstrike. So it's not unreasonable to give those ships with no AA access to a Fighter consumable, or similar. Those can normally be relied upon to make a difference.
