Nah. Dodging CV fire is like dodging a surface ship with MBRB active. Something *is* going to hit you.

World of Warships Final Review: French Tier VII Premium Cruiser Toulon from Yuzorah
invicta2012 replied to Chysagon's topic in PvE Corner
Hmm. It's an odd duck, for sure. It's a Dunkerque-type BB nerfed a bit to make it fit the cruiser class, which historically it could never have been part of. So while it does fit between Algerie and Strasbourg, it doesn't really make any sense and I suspect it will be frustrating to play, especially with a main battery reload slower than several Tier VII BBs. -
Superships feel like a cheesy halloween game mode
invicta2012 replied to Karkong_the_Impaler's topic in General Discussion
Yes, but Mario Kart is *fun*. WG should be made to think about a game in which people *laugh* when they get nuked (hello Blue Shell). -
Armour scheme is Repulse/Nelson/Strasbourg, not Hood. 26mm deck offers no protection against anything other than against 6 inch CLs below Tier VIII (without IFHE/not German) and DDs. Bow is 16mm so will be overmatched by any BB with 13 inch guns and above, and that athwartship armour isn't keeping anything above 12 inch shells out of the citadel. I don't know what it is with WG and RN ships having shell traps but that additional bow/stern armour seems guaranteed to ricochet shells into the citadel , rather than keeping them out. (For reference, Hood's deck is 51mm, her bow is 26mm, Nelson is 32/26, KGV is 26/26, so this is the worst armoured RN Tier VII BB by a long chalk.... she's actually worse than the Tier VII CA Surrey (27/16), although she obvs has better armour belt protection overall). Heavy secondaries are Nelson/Leander, so no great shakes. Pleased to see 4.5 inch guns as the light secondary / AA battery, and her light AA battery looks decent. Looks as if they have a decision to make on the deck armour and the heal. To be true to Fisher's concept, I'd like a ship with deck armour capable of shrugging off DDs and CLs (without IFHE), but vulnerable to CAs and Panzerschiff (although you'd expect it to trade and survive). Main belts should be capable of dealing with CAs, Graf Spee and Scharnhorst, but needing good angling against anything higher in calibre. Speed and positioning should really count in this line.

That voice over... why can't it say "g"? Cherbour? Strasbour? WTF? (Am presuming that Toulon has been made an event ship because Voiceover man couldn't say it....) Oh, and so long, Epicentre. No-one's favourite mode, I know, but a top choice if you had missions with capture requirements. Not sure Arms Race will replace it, although I'm waiting to see what it does to PVE: bot Superships with buffs? This could be amusing.

Started playing WoWS, bought these premiums
invicta2012 replied to ziratulbihac's topic in General Discussion
You've got good value from: Mainz, Atago, Warspite, Roma, Bagration, Cossack. The problem with the other ships is that they are not as good as others which were available to purchase but have now been taken out of the shop. (I wouldn't call it a vintage period to be whaling). Congress is a weaker Alaska, Alabama is very standard indeed, Hornet OK, Duke of York a waste of money, Verdi ditto. From the current premium shop line up I probably would have suggested any of Tone, Weimar, Sims, Kaga, Scharnhorst, Ark Royal, Perth, Aigle and Exeter as alternatives, the last four especially if you're learning the ropes at Tier V-VI. -
They *did* buff them. The original had low muzzle velocity and a light projectile with high drag.... they were comedic.

Would you get Atlantico for full T8 premium price?
invicta2012 replied to Ocsimano18's topic in General Discussion
I think so. She's interesting. It's probably one of WG's best "what if..." ideas and incorporates an idea (the pre-dreadnought mixed battery BB) which I've wanted to see in the game for ages. Dockyard ships are a mixed bag, tbh - but there are still some good ones. -
Why Canarias uses both incorrect shell weight and incorrect shell velocity?
invicta2012 replied to FrankvC_Jr's question in Q&A Section
Yes, I found that as well. Lots of people tell me that speed is the key to this ship so that you work the appropriate angles, but I think it's another ship WG have balanced around potential max damage in specific circumstances which might not turn up. Those aren't my favourites, tbh, I prefer ships with versatility. -
Submarine Survey 2.0 - The questions that really matter
invicta2012 replied to nerderklaus's topic in General Discussion
I play CVs, I buy CVs. I haven't tested subs for several iterations as they are just boring to play. There are few notable possibilities for premiums and the game play I have seen is one-dimensional and offers few options for variations in the way that CVs have been developed. Are there any ways in Submarines can be made as diverse in playstyles as Ark Royal, Bearn, Loewenhardt, Ryujio and Ranger are as Tier VI CVs? How do they fit in Operations (which is where I have a lot of fun with those CVs I mentioned). I just don't see how this class can be made interesting when the developers are struggling so hard to even make it functional. -

And they will not be popular, and they will make the game and the community more toxic and unhappy. The levels of bullet headness, obtuseness and clumsiness on display from WG here are quite remarkable. -

Funnily enough, Warspite has different secondaries to QE..... the main difference here is that QE doesn't have a full set of torpedoes to rely on in a brawl. Comparing Renown and Repulse does show that Repulse was rather the poor relation of the two... but for game purposes it would be possible to balance up Renown by presenting her in 1940 form with considerably weaker light AA (but a full medium calibre secondary set up) - that would involve removing almost all of her 20mm and 40mm guns, leaving the 3 octuple pom-poms and a selection of quadruple MGs. That would knock AA her short range AA down to IJN BB levels, so her secondaries would only really drive off CV players that can't dodge flak. It would leave her as a very capable surface ship with a weakness for CVs - a problem in a very large ship. -
What is the last fun "Premium" ship that you actually bought (and that was available ONLY for Doubloons or Real Money in Premium Shop)?
invicta2012 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Constellation. Not a great ship, but quite fun. Speed is needed in PVE and she has all the tools. -

Haida has that arrangement as well. The Tribals, as designed, had four twin 4.7 inch mounts (ABXY), but on the original batch of Canadian and Australian Tribals, X mount is a twin 4 inch secondary gun (to improve AA performance). It's quite potent and fires fast but is very short ranged. The later Canadian Tribals had 4 x 2 4 inch mounts... I know LittleWhiteMouse was considering asking for one of those but WG wouldn't put the effort in to the modelling. (Huron is the "apology" ship for the whole Yukon fiasco). She could make a good hit and run ship (with the enhanced damage on her shells compared to, say, Jervis) but I'm not convinced about the potency of Heal and EB when your ship isn't lightning fast to begin with. It certainly doesn't make Karl Van Schonberg a gudbote, anything but. -

Fair point, my mistake. So even less remarkable. What does this ship do that Haida doesn't? -

What, like the upcoming IJN CL torpedo cruisers? :) I quite agree, I'd like something with Warspite type gunnery - lower RoF than the current RN BBs but would reward good positioning and aiming. Other thoughts: - if that's post refit Renown, you've forgotten her AA guns. The ship had an AA suite as good as Queen Elizabeth, and that big deck area midships should have another 3 x 4.5 inch turrets on it. - Hampshire is a good name for the Premium. And you've got the bridge right, too.... any chance of going back and fixing Surrey? However the words "weak armour" fills me with dread that we've got another Cheshire on our hands.... - Huron. Sigh. Haida a tier up, without the crawling smoke. The Repair is nice, but that's one less charge than Orkan and the hydro is... hmm. Standard RN 4.7 inch shells and an extra RP charge might have been a better trade? -

20K Shimakaze torps on a Tier IX BB? Yer having a larf. It's like putting an 18 inch gun on a Benson. Can we please try and keep ship classes in some kind of sensible order? -
Why Canarias uses both incorrect shell weight and incorrect shell velocity?
invicta2012 replied to FrankvC_Jr's question in Q&A Section
Canarias has AP with improved ricochet angles and short fuse time, which makes it very effective against lightly armoured targets - giving it a higher muzzle velocity would probably diminish the ship's efficacy as it would result in more overpenetrations (the shell having travelled further through the opponent's ship before exploding). A heavier shell weight and charge would probably result in more base damage which would probably be *too* effective. Apparently WG have tweaked other soft stats, though, so what you get in-game is close enough to the basic original gun performance while still giving "national flavour". https://forum.worldofwarships.com/topic/252313-premium-ship-review-canarias/ -
Should DD players at least get spread evenly between teams according to their DD stats?
invicta2012 replied to Sir_Sinksalot's topic in General Discussion
The comments on this thread would suggest it *isn't* working very well, though. That's hardly surprising given that DD play has become considerably harder since 0.8.0 - there is just a lot to think about. I did say she was serviceable! But perhaps fifth or sixth choice these days, especially with Hsein Yang being buffed? -

invicta2012 replied to Sir_Sinksalot's topic in General Discussion
Well, they're buffing the Pan-Asian DDs soon, so you can enjoy Radar-equipped ships with Torpedo Reload Booster.... should add some variety. But I understand what you mean about the ship choice. WG could do with having a look at Tier VII DDs, IMHO - if this is the Tier where players are supposed to start learning high tier DD play skills then it's a tough gig - you're generally outspotted (because of the Tier VIII concealment module), out gunned, and still dealing with low-tier balancing gimmicks like short range/limited weaponry (Jervis's 7km torps, Luca Tarigo's 7km gun range, a total lack of AA on many lines). And there's a fair few older DD lines (like the US ones) which could do with a refresh. Ships like Benson are still very serviceable but not hugely competitive any more, especially as higher tier DDs have got faster, bigger and more gimmick laden over the last year or two. -
Where are these Italian DD tokens sourced from?
invicta2012 replied to Sir_Sinksalot's topic in General Discussion
True, and there's nothing at all wrong with Duca D'Aosta or Roma (well, Roma's dispersion....). But Leone's thing is cruiser guns on a DD hull and that needs a little more durability, especially with her reload/shell arcs. -

invicta2012 replied to Sir_Sinksalot's topic in General Discussion
The Tech Tree Tier VI Italian (Aviere) is quite decent if you can live with her gun range. Leone is quite fun but they probably should have tried her out with some alternative mechanics - a heal or French DD damage saturation mechanics might have been better. -

Bear in mind that it's a Collection you're completing here, and it's not time-gated. The containers normally turn up in the Armory for coal eventually, so the effort you've put into the missions won't be wasted, you've just got to drop some coal on the containers in the future to get Leone in port. -

invicta2012 replied to Sir_Sinksalot's topic in General Discussion
If you want something doing properly... do it yourself. Bring your best DD and make the difference. (Sympathy here: DD life is hard. It's like Frith's speech at the beginning of Watership Down - "All the world will be your enemy. And if they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you.... ". DD's were the only line I really enjoyed playing in Randoms and it got too stressful. Gawd alone knows what its's like with all the Schleiffens and what nots about). I would struggle to think of what sort of MM trickery could be introduced to cope with this. A high PR DD player matched with a low one? Mirrored MM would mean two DDs on each side and 50% chance of the noob running straight into a guaranteed unicum on the other team. Probably even less well balanced than it is now.
