Heads up. New devblog about ec rework is up. Ugh....
invicta2012 replied to Andrewbassg's topic in General Discussion
You can only have one camo on a ship at a time. So each non-perm camo gets split into: the visual effects a individual new bonus for each category that the original bonus affected (other than detection and dispersion) amended by the rule changes, which are basically that any bonus to XP on the existing camo will also be applied to Commander and Free XP in the new system, and then rounded up to the nearest Tier in the new system. So my 400 Shadow Lurker Camos (+75% XP, +100% Commander XP, +150% Free XP) become x400 times Shadow Lurker visuals (1 use) x400 +100% XP bonuses (75% rounded up to the nearest new Tier) x400 +200% Commander XP Bonuses (75% XP + 100% Commander XP rounded up to the nearest new Tier) x400 +300% Free XP bonuses (75% XP + 150% Free XP rounded up to the nearest new Tier). With signals it gets a bit more complicated as they've done it based on signal sets (i.e groups of signals which shared modifiers in some way)... -
Tired of Weimar spam in Narai (can it be banned from it?)

Fair play, that's true. Make it a Smith, then - 11 second reload might be challenging? -
I think it's odd bringing out a line which starts at Tier VIII, tbh. French cruiser lines are truly all over the place in this game... a mixed CA/CL line and a short line of SuperCruisers/BCs. Lots of real-world gaps to fill.
-
I ground that one out in Co-op and Narai. It's an odd duck, worse than the "big gun" version of Gaede in every way. Max out your rudder, speed, health and reload boosts/AR at the expense of concealment. You're spotted from the moon. Your AP is situational, and very powerful when you can work an angle against all targets, but often ineffective. You will get shot at, and you will get hit, so for goodness sake get some buffs from it. I have to admit, mind, that I don't really like German DDs. They just aren't good enough at the things I like DDs to do. Perhaps they work in a very tactical, technical way? I know I used to see a lot of Z-39 in Tier VII Ranked games...

They also seem very reluctant to fire their torpedoes. That Gallant which spawns as part of the second wave in the harbour should be a deterrent to spawn campers, but I've never seen it fire a single torpedo (possibly because of its plotted course and RN launch angles, to be fair, but still). Something like a T-61, Nicholas or Clemson would be much more effective... -
I wouldn't panic too much. The Phoenix in Narai does not behave at all like a normal Tier IV cruiser and it's fine, even challenging. Some of those low tier boats become hard to deal with because of the constant overpens resulting from their weak armour. The other way up, too... you already can see Myoko and Mogami in Raptor Rescue, Amagi in Aegis, Izumo in Newport... and they're all Tier VI missions. Would I be any more worried about Albemarle hoving into view than Emerald? They're both made of torpedoes and tinfoil, It should balance out. Provided the lower Tier player ships get bonuses for a good performance, it sounds fun.

I quite like the Italian DDs, I think they'll be a sleeper line rather than the next big thing, but they're interesting. I suspect the buffed Pan Asian DDs will outshine them, though. French Heavy cruisers look a bit odd, tbh. The Tier VII looks like a worse Strasbourg, and I don't see the point of that. I'd rather have something with a smaller gun calibre and a novel layout, like the Hampshire WG have announced. RN Battlecruisers.... I've seen a couple of these in game and they were brittle. Very much like Repulse, which I don't think is a patch on Hood and her ilk. Atlantico I am looking forward to although I think her low speed will be a problem in PVE, normally you need 30knts plus. Puerto Rico looks uncessary... I have Alaska and the original supercruiser wave appears to be a bit played out, they can't seem to make many variations on that theme. Iwami - No interest Black - looks very strong in certain game modes, niche in others. Forrest Sherman - probably will pick this one up with the Resource voucher in a week or two, although Ragnar looks fun. Superships - No interest really, but I hear Annapolis is the best of the bunch.

Good ship in Narai. That's where I ground her. Terrible ship in Randoms, mind. Get spotted? Explode! -

She's very good. I think the main problem is her torpedo armament, which is every bit as good as Yorck's, and significantly better than poor old Munchen. Fast reload on those torps, too, makes her an excellent spawn camper, and Ops haven't been designed to counter that. WG should probably put the reload up to 90 seconds (like Mainz, which doesn't suffer) and perhaps given Munchen the long-range DD torps on the German Heavy DDs to make her a long-range harassing ship. (I own both, btw, and would still play them like that). -

I do know what the OP means. Sometimes - and it's usually Aegis and Narai - the Ops can feel a little formulaic. Do a certain thing with a certain ship and win big, everyone else gets the scraps. I would like a little more variation in both modes. I have noticed that Aegis spawns an extra wave of BBs more often than it used to, although I would like to see the occasional destroyer flotilla at C1 to stop those people who do nothing but wander up the left hand side of the map.The same with Narai, I'd quite like to see something other than the Dallas and Campbeltown in the harbour, perhaps two higher tier DDs which might make convoy defence the priority. The way that mission plays out has definitely changed since all these fast firing, double-torping CLs came into the game, it could do with a little updating. -
You can connect it to a monitor via USB C/HDMI, but obvs driving a massive gaming monitor at ultra-high res isn't *quite* the point of something like this. You'd probably need an external graphics card for high res stuff.
-
I'd quite like it if some of them got standardised, esp. if they were issued before a line got its "flavour". Abruzzi, for example - how much better would she be if she had the Italian fuel smoke?

MH = Max Hydro Range AH = Actual Hydro Range MS = Ship Maximum Speed AS = Actual Ship Speed AH = MH*(1-(AS/MS)) So... Ship with Max Hydro Range of 5km and a maximum speed of 30 knots Going at 5kts = Hydro Range of 5*(1-(5/30) = 4.16km Going at 15kts = Hydro Range of 5*(1-(15/30) = 2.5km Going at 30kts = Hydro Range of 5*(1-(30/30) = 0km (Cryptic math :) )

Random battles now include that grab a buff mode?
invicta2012 replied to I_need_an_adult's topic in General Discussion
Badly! It's a bit of a joke in PvE, really. The bots don't aim for the buff zones and the players get everything, which makes games last even *less* time than they used to. -
Black, usually, due to the insulation. You know what - I think they're *actually* called stays. I shall have to go back and re-read Patrick O'Brien.... such ferociously detailed books!

Chumphon is good Atlanta practice... that smoke comes in handy from time to time if you need to work out the best routes. The TRB is useful too. -

Algerie is good in Narai, though. She has great range and all the tools you need - torpedoes, hydro, and speed boost. Double torps would be nice, of course, but you can't have everything. Try adding a speed flag, you'll be faster than Weimar and have better range. -
Yes-ish. In WoWS terms most of the sub hunting was done by Tier I-IV ships (Black Swan, Clemson, Wickes, Wakeful) built for endurance, rather than speed, but there certainly *were* specialists like the Havant class DDs, which traded guns and torpedoes for heavy anti sub armament and being quality test beds for new equipment. Really? Speed up, ASDIC stops working precisely. Slow down, it works better. It's like aiming a CV flight, and anyone can do that.
-
We did. But subs died as a result, and therefore they were not Fun To Play, and so hydrophone was removed. We've said thousands of times what the fix for this is (it has something to do with the range of the hydrophone decreasing as the detecting ship speed increases so that it becomes little more than RPF at full speed) but WG isn't listening.

Ships that playing runs the risk of getting reported.

Smolensk, Thunderer seem to be the ones which attract most aggro. And they deserve it, of course. The anger is particularly spicy with those ones as you don't have to "earn" them by completing Tech Tree lines, and any old persistent donkey (like me) can have them and play them *all the time* and make everyone cross by being constantly on fire. -
Favourite actual carriers would include Enterprise for obvs reasons, Argus for resolutely refusing to be sunk, Unicorn for being it's own class of ship, and Formidable for getting itself into a formal line of battle and *almost* engaging an Italian cruiser squadron alongside Warspite. That's the sort of CV behaviour we want to see! Most favourite, though, is R-05 HMS Invincible, as it's the only one I've been on. Although the RN called it a cruiser.... Favourite in -game carrier is Ryujio, but I have a long list of ones I like and play. Favourite real sub? the X and XE midget ones. Respect for anyone capable of getting in one of those, let alone taking it to war. In game sub? They're completely characterless.

Traditionally rigging is what supports a mast and the sails on it. Age of Armour warships don't have sails, but they do have masts and those are useful mounting points for things which need to be seen (signal rigging) or which need to be high up in the ship (radar and radio antennae). Blyska was built with a traditional pole foremast on to which radar and radio antennae were added, and because of the impact of adding heavy items high up the foremast, it would have needed significant extra rigging in order to prevent excessive movement (this is why most later WW2 classes of DD adopted lattice foremasts, which were much better load bearing structures for all the things modern DDs needed). Generally you'd be talking about metal hawsers but there would still have been plenty of rope in use during the WoWS era.

Lots of rumours. Obvs we know that they are trialing support CVs (hello stun bombs) but I didn't see a new line being mentioned. Nice if they are doing that, though... I wonder if the Arms Race mode thing is part of the trial, to see how the community reacts to buff zones etc in game.

They did announce Yorktown a while back, didn't they? The same time as Hornet. Not sure what happened to that one.

I always think of WG when I hear that Coppola sample DJ Shadow used on the first UNKLE album. "We were in the jungle, there were too many of us. We had access to too many.... too much money, too much equipment... and little by little, we went insane."
