The Ranked One thread (post here when you reach Rank I)

R4, two stars, three times, both precipitating a downfall into the Salt Mines of Despair. Even breaking out GC did not stem the tide of gloom.

Does anyone have any advice for which premium to buy?

I haven't heard too many good things about it, but others may say different. The thing is... I would say buy Premiums if they are outstanding or different (Scharnhorst is both). Warspite and DoY are quite similar to the silver VI and VIi, QE and KGV... Play those first.

Still slow, though, and with the ship's low speed it can be a pain to get involved in the game. Has anyone suggested Dunkerque, btw? A fun premium and good trainer for the French BB line.

    HMS Daring Gun error...

I did. They said they remember you and it that was cute you still believed it. But seriously, they're trying to render Imperial measurements in metric. It's not an exact science.

    Upcoming T5 Ranked

Done with it for the moment. Getting from X to V was easy, V onwards is torture. Time to do something fun, won't be playing in Ranked again.
  7. I had it ages ago, when I was the edge sniping potato everyone hated. I've seen it played well, but I've also walloped it too.. it's a bit too long and cumbersome for Ranked which can be a knifefight. I prefer the smaller, secondary-festooned Warspite type.
  8. I don't play either of them. Kongo is too fragile and encourages sniping, Okt. Revska is too slow and sluggish. It should be a good tanking BB, but people tend to miss the need for that.
  9. WoWs stats are frequently nonsense, because they are usually badly normalised. If you normalised them around skill level, premium ship and Divisional play you would see the massive differences in skill (and therefore the resulting game experience)
  10. The worst ship would be Kongo, followed by Okt. Revska. One sits on the edges and snipes, the other drifts about, decides their team is going to lose and hides behind an island, perhaps emerging to blap a DD and save a star. And cruisers may as well stay at home, they'r'e so scared.
  11. AA, AP, dispersion, turret layout, secondaries. For me, any way.

Why WoWs "feels wrong", CV rework is not helping

If you don't like it, don't play it. WarThunder is working on a naval combat game which has an authentic mode. WoWs is more arcade-y, that's their path, they're not changing.

    Upcoming T5 Ranked

Actually.... It's probably quite a good thing in that people are learning not to be terrified of premium ships, and to play more positively in normal battleships. It seems to be Fujin which is the really premium pest - presumably that's because of the players who have one. Half the time the Kami R's just float around on the edges, hoping to pick someone off, which doesn't really happen. And Cesare isn't that much better, especially at the ranges some of these games are being played at.

    Upcoming T5 Ranked

You're right about that, though. Tier V Ranked is not a nice place for Cruisers.
  15. Neither's Emerald, to be honest. It's a bit rubbish, though, this game mode.

What is the stupidest thing you did today?

Playing ranked. Four bilge water games - a clump of BBs shouting at everyone else to sort stuff out - and two good ones. Changed my mind and started levelling through the RN Destroyer tree. Medea's a great little boat and Tier II remains more fun than Fortnite.
  17. You don't worry about concealment in a Krispy Kreme. If you can shoot it, it can see you. You are more visible than Cesare and Scharnhorst, ffs. Keep moving, keep firing and always have an exit ready. Oh, and her torps are spicy.... 13k damage per hit on a 5k range is better than many Tier V DDs.

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together

A multiple Kami game would be funny, though, with an eerily empty mini map and the silence only broken by torpedo warnings.

    RN CV's in testing

We discussed this before and its a great idea. Swordfish could be used as anything : torp bombers, dive bombers, or anti sub cannoneers, the Skua and Barracuda were fighter bombers... Lots of options.

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together

Yup. No one is special when everyone is, as those GC drivers are likely finding out...

    British Heavy Cruiser Line

It would have to be a buffed/rebuilt Surrey class County at VIII, post treaty stuff. Tier IX would be a larger ship using all those leftover 9.2" guns, meant to counter Hipper and the like, Tier X would be back to 8" guns and a much more American design with a heavy emphasis on AA. There is a thread on the US Forums which outlines the designs for them. As for names? IX would be Hampshire, X would be Warrior or Defence.

    RN CV's in testing

I know. The first one was rubbish, though, whereas the other Hermes/Viraat had a 50+ year career. And it doesn't have to have Harriers. I'd be perfectly happy with a Buccaneer, or an F4 Phantom... Is this that awful, creepy, Azur Lane stuff again? If so, shoo.

    British Heavy Cruiser Line

York / Exeter would be fine as a Tier VI. Pensacola - an 8" cruiser with no armour - is a fearsome proposition at VI, and has been balanced with glacial turret traverse and slow reload, the York Class would have fewer guns but better traverse, reload, stealth, and torpedoes. As I said on the Commonwealth thread, the low armour Counties are Tier V, the Kents/Yorks are VI, London VII, and the Surrey class - better armour, a bit slower- make a good fit for VII. After that... just make stuff up. That was what the RN did... Tier IX: HMS Devonport, 32.6 knots, 8 x something or other, try to bring it back in one piece.

    RN CV's in testing

I suppose they do have an issue in the fact that most of the British CVs are called either Ark Royal, Hermes or Eagle. But they should probably keep the Hermes name for the Centaur class ship. The correct order, btw is Argus, Attacker/Furious, Courageous, Illustrious, Majestic/Colossus (Implacable), Hermes, Ark Royal...
  25. Jianwei is a good ship if you can get in amongst battleships. But the chances are that you won't. And the votes for Krasny Krym.... we shall see about that, in due course.
