Boring endless grind stages for Cossack
invicta2012 replied to Praetorias's topic in General Discussion
Cossack does have issues, I think. Gunboat with awkward firing angles, tricksy torps, and a general air of not being as good as the Tier VIII RN Silver DD, often finds itself against Tier X opposition and doesnt have the gimmicks to cope. -
Get yourself a DD and a decent captain and take the lead, then. It can all get very frustrating (I say this as someone who took 100 games to Rank 1 during the first Sprint and was regularly tearing my hair out) and switching ships to whichever role you're most annoyed with can help. If you want something doing....
-
I quite enjoy Standard battles, although I don't play much above Tier VII. They're a different experience, especially if you're playing in a Destroyer where your game role is quite different to Domination mode.
-
8 v 8 does feel a little like just too many for one player to carry and I have seen rather more campy BB play than I'd like. Early doors, though.
-
Fubuki remains my favourite ship in the game, so I don't see her needing too much. Her torps are spotted easily but they don't send a postcard to say they're coming, like Ognevoi, and you can keep lots of fish in the water while staying in stealth. Confronting other DDs can be challenging, but you can lock down an entire flank by yourself, which is a pretty stong skill.

Boring endless grind stages for Cossack
invicta2012 replied to Praetorias's topic in General Discussion
Personally I have rather given up with the RN missions, but I'm still in game and I keep completing them just through playing. I've got enough Guineas now to make Cossack cost the same as a Tier VI DD, so that's a 50% discount plus the Gallant I earned earlier, without too much extra. The Ovetchkin missions are more faff, tbh. -
I am hoping that cruisers find more of a role in this Sprint, so I might pick up a Kirov and give it a spin....
-
Yes. Not sure how I feel about doing the same thing all over again, tbh. By the end of the First sprint I think the ships and tactics needed for success had become obvious (BBs, stealthy destroyers) and I'm not sure I can cope with other people's learning curves over the next Sprint.
-
Kicked out, then locked out. Ah well. Two co-op games and a completed secondary mission from the RN Directives, so some progress at least....

Is it a Greek thing to think that everyone hates you? Every few months there seems to be a complaint of this nature. There are lots of European nations clamouring for a ship in the game, and Greece has it's contenders. Giorgios Averos is a bit of a legend, Vasilissa Olga looks good at Tier VI (G class RN destroyer with KM Maass class guns? Sounds fun) and Adrias (Hunt class DD) would be good if/when they put subs in the game.

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
invicta2012 replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
Oh, I remember suggesting that a while back. Interesting to see how it turns out. Really the strength of it is that it gives the detected ship a chance to get away or destroy their opponent in a 1v1, and that opponents looking to use the radar location will have to hurry up if they want to get their guns on the spotted target. That might well lead to them giving themselves away rather than providing effective focused fire. -
How do we help players like these?
invicta2012 replied to Bear__Necessities's topic in General Discussion
Probably not. I'm afraid I don't see any virtue in getting wound up about random players in Random teams. If it gets on your nerves, play another game mode, play in a division, go do something else until you get your happy back. -
Top tier matches don't feel like ships anymore
invicta2012 replied to Viravandrel's topic in General Discussion
I don't play WoT but the idea that high level WoWs games seem to need Tank tactics had definitely occurred to me, and I do wonder whether the developers are shared between the the two games in such a way that the nature of naval combat is being lost. At high Tiers the mechanics of the game are now almost completely mismatched with the design parameters of the ships....it's no surprise that French battleships are so popular when their forward facing armament, bow tanking ability, and lack of need to go broadside makes perfect sense in the game, even though it seemed like crazy stuff in reality. This whole slow back/forwards thing only works because of our vision and the way it has trouble judging the motion of slow moving objects on a 2D rendition of a 3D image. If we had what ship gunners actually had - the ability to lock our focus on a point and watch how objects move against it - then it wouldn't work at all. X Marks The Spot doesn't go far enough... I'd like a Binocular Lock feature which would work as above: allow me to mark a point on the screen and measure objects against it. If you wanted to make it fair, then you could insist the player be locked in Binocular view as long as the mark is in use, so they'd be taking a risk and less aware of their circumstances... that seems a fair trade. As for Citadels... yup. Cruisers should suffer more damaged modules rather than massive dev strikes. -
Fubuki. So many torpedoes, so little time. Krasny Krym. Is something burning? Probably not if I'm playing it, mind.... 7 Caledon. The cruiser which is the prototype for British Destroyers. Family connection, too (my Grandfather served on C Class Cruisers during WW1).

The Ranked One thread (post here when you reach Rank I)
invicta2012 replied to ___V_E_N_O_M___'s topic in General Discussion
Rank 1, 100 games. I know it took some of you considerably less, but overall I've very much enjoyed the season. Key ship? Acasta. -
Torpedo boat destroyers cope better with being uptiered than any other class, though. If you can stealth torp, you can kill battleships. The thing that would be a problem for Kamizake would be speedy adversaries, and there are plenty of those at higher tiers.

New Orleans is great. A proper Heavy Cruiser which isn't completely reliant on smoke or hiding to survive. Her guns are accurate and can damage anything, her AA is potent, and she doesn't give citadels quite as often as Algerie or Myoko do. Probably my favourite VII CA.

88 and still going. (I never said I was good at this). Acasta and the occasional top up from Krasny Krym and Bretagne are doing the job, though... R3 completed, and R1 sighted! -
I like the idea but I can see it being a balancing issue, and WG has always been concerned about powerful secondaries being too easy to exploit by bots. As far as balancing goes, the thing about secondaries is that the actual history of their development doesn't make sense in the context of Wows. Ships like Warspite had an entire cruiser's worth of 6 inch guns down each side when they were built... Later replaced with lighter AA guns. If those original secondaries were given free reign it would like Bismarkageddon for smaller ships. I do like the idea of being able to use AA guns against close range enemies, though... as actually happened in several BB vs DD fights.
-
I think it would be more positive were it not for the fact it highlights WG's tendency to let OP premiums loose on the game at every opportunity. Were it not for the Acasta and it's good concealment and smoke DD play would be the Kamikaze show. However. If there was a way of restricting the MM to players with a certain number of games (to prevent sealclubbing) a Tier III Ranked Sprint would be a hoot. Vampire vs Wickes, Dreadnought vs Nassau, St Louis vs Bogatyr. If only the darn Konig Albert wasn't around....

They could always replace them with land based aircraft on things like Dynamo. Not sure about Raptor, though... -
I was browsing Wikipedia and found this little gem : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARA_La_Argentina_(C-3) Basically Huang He with Fiji's guns, ideal for being OP at Tier VI with all the gimmicks.
-
I found that. Went from Bretagne to GC. Average damage doubled. Win rate was the same. Curious. Still no progress on the rankings, btw, but had some laughs (and some salt) in Acasta. Salty highlights : sinking half the enemy team and being told I don't know how to play, the continuing eternal slowness of Okt. Revska and light cruiser divisions behind islands too high to fire over.
-
Helena and New Orleans are great Tier VII cruisers - although the USN line is a dead loss after that - and Minsk is a great laugh.
-
I can't be bothered with the final stage of missions like that. Play lots of co-op games in a Gneisenau to get something or other. Answer: no. I think I need the Free XP at Stage 4 more than the captain, tbh. Probably more useful than this hockey stick bloke.
