Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
invicta2012 replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
In amongst the CV patch fest, I think everyone has forgotten the upcoming concealment nerf in 0.8.0, which will make Cruisers' lives even harder. Duca will become a rather large, overgunned, stealth torp machine at this rate.... -
Can i do a return on my purchase of the musashi?

That's a lot of money to pay for epic fails, though. Those are better if they come for free. -
Can i do a return on my purchase of the musashi?
invicta2012 replied to mannen33's topic in General Discussion
I quite fancied buying a Mushashi and generally derping around the place (I can't play Tier VII properly, let alone IX) but I'm 20K coal short. Presumably there is no quick method of getting this coal and unleashing the full fury of my incompetence on high Tier matches? -
I'm not saying that I make things a whole lot better, but I seem to be part of teams that aim like this...
-
I think the fourth ship is a Myoko, part of the second wave. For various reasons (slow BBs, CV spotting, clearer line of sight) it tends to get spotted before the Kuma and Aoba.
-
I have. I think there may be a reason why I have and you haven't...
-
That Furutaka definitely does fire torps. Can get a bit torp soup if people don't kill the DD fast enough and both it and the cruiser get their torps away.
-
They want you to spot for them. Bear in mind, though, that they don't want to support you: BB players just get anxious if they don't know where the enemy DDs are.

IJN funboats => HMS Exeter: WG going full freejazz
invicta2012 replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
They could tone down the torps a bit - but really they need to make her a Tier V premium that will people will want to buy and play. I hope this is a sign (along with Viribus Unitis) that WG is going to stop treating Tiers IV and V as training areas. -
I am playing it and enjoying it, but yes, the tendency of people to forget the main bit for the side objectives is amazing...

Krasny Krym is never in smoke, comrade. The Doughnut of Doom is always spotted, and is always firing back. In any case: in reality the detectibility of a ship's gun flashes was dependent on the type of propellant used. The USS Helena was lost in battle because of this (all the other ships in her squadron had flashless powder available, she didn't, so was a much more obvious target for the torpedoes which eventually sank her). So let's say that Exeter has flashless ammo available and the others don't. Happy? -
It's not a Star Wars game, and not everyone likes these gimmick modes.

what would a legendary comander jingles get?
invicta2012 replied to SkollUlfr's topic in General Discussion
Dodgy Dodging Detection: highlights any ship sailing in a straight line for more than 30 seconds. Wrong Way Round: a kind of reverse RPF which convinces your opponents that you are approaching from the opposite direction, so that when you encounter them their guns are facing the wrong way. -
The Ranked One thread (post here when you reach Rank I)
invicta2012 replied to ___V_E_N_O_M___'s topic in General Discussion
Forgot about this thread... 36 games to R1 this time, mostly Normandie, Huang He and Monaghan. All v effective, and a much better season than last time around. -
Is the Daring as bad as the Jutland?
invicta2012 replied to ThatOneDidntGoIn's topic in General Discussion
It's not a fault, but it is counter intuitive, and surely you can see why people might get confused by the effect of lower calibre guns and better armoured opponents. -

Skipping Tiers with Free XP, using two captains when levelling a line, not having the cash to change the skills of a DD captain that didn't need IFHE into one that did? It's not too far fetched. What's being said here is that the decrease in gun calibre on the Tier IX and X RN DDs is a bit unusual and, really, they suck if you don't have IFHE. -

That's quite, er, situational praise, isn't it? How does she do with a captain below 14pts, which would have to choose between CE and IFHE? -
A fair point. Perhaps William Halsey's descendants (pretty sure he has a fair few) have been more receptive? I would hope that at least one notable British commander could actually make it into the game, though. I'm sure people would like a Jellicoe or Beatty. (For my money Robert St Vincent Sherbrooke (VC) would be most appropriate, considering he commanded three of the ships currently in the game (Wakeful, Cossack, Aurora (later Huang He), which has to be something of a record!).

Can we have an Admiral Harwood, as a Commander, too? Perhaps with an Andrew Cunningham for Warspite, and a Philip Vian for Cossack and/or Indomitable?

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
invicta2012 replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Ended up in a Ranked game with @Verblonde yesterday, which (I think) ended well. Always rather imposing thing to find another forumite in the game. You think "oh no, they know what they're doing, and now they're going to tell everyone I don't".... -
Brainstorm session: How to increase the skill level of the playerbase
invicta2012 replied to Linkaex's topic in General Discussion
The problem is that the game is based on a fundamental untruth. It's pitched to appeal to fans of real naval history and tech, but this is a game themed around naval combat, not a game of historical naval combat. Players should be told to abandon everything they know about actual naval battles and concentrate on mastering the arbitrary rules and concepts of the game, but WG won't say that because it will put potential players off, and they need the quantity of players more than they need quality. They can certainly do more to educate the part of the playerbase which wants to know more about the actual game (good examples above) but I don't see that a game whose commercial survival is based on the amount of games played, not the quality of those games, will ever satisfy people who want ultra-high quality matches.- 61 replies

Well, either the fix is a mistake, or there's something about the 3s/limited detection rule in place which wasn't what was intended. Did it let larger ships fire and drop off detection too early? -

I do concentrate on my breathing, it's true. It stops me going off into drama queen mode every time there's a change to the game. Shall we try and disagree constructively? It makes everything much nicer if we do. -

Personally, I don't always shoot in smoke. The RN DDs are so manoeuvrable, and have such quick acceleration, that you can do that with little risk. This change doesn't stop that being any less viable than it is in a Russian DD where your speed is key... people will adapt.
