    Texas nerfed hard

It gets reduced by the same amount the other side gets buffed. The sector system is pretty clumsy, btw, and takes you out of the game at crucial points. You will forget about it, it needs to be shown on the normal HUD.

    Texas nerfed hard

They've made a bit of a hash of the AA, to be honest. What you'll find is that a new or incompetent CV player will run into the flak bursts and lose all their planes: I killed 17 in a Bretagne last night, which is silly. A good player will have learned how to dodge the flak bursts, and then there is no defence other than the ship Auto AA, which has changed from being "the closer the planes get, the more damage they take" to this whole AA aura thing, which has weakened lots of short range AA and confused players whose ships aren't working like they used to. They will have to sort it out. Don't sell Texas now, wait at least three or four patches before even thinking about it, she may be back to her former glory by then. Hopefully we'll get a better, more active AA system than we currently have. I miss the whole "Ctrl+click to direct AA" thing, would be good if they could bring that back. DfAa could be a "click and hold" function where you get 15/20 seconds action per charge but have control over how much you use, that would stop CVS baiting people into using it and then coming back 45 seconds later...

    First impressions - patch 0.8

Lower Tier Carriers, btw. Hilariously awful. Bretagne has decent AA, but she's not Texas. This sort of result wasn't possible yesterday.
  4. I'm not sure. I took 1/3rd of her health in a Krasny Krym - that light plating all over doesn't absorb cruiser damage one bit - but she could smoke up, while I couldn't. If we'd had 0.7.12 DDs to flush her out of smoke it would have been OK, but DDs are all over the place at the moment.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

I was trying to finish that Leningrad mission where you have to hit the enemy 1000 times with your main battery in a USSR Ship. So... Krasny Krym it is. And then I bumped into two New CVs. They're not good at that Tier, are they? The fun stuff is 13 minutes in: https://replayswows.com/replay/41168
  6. It's too much. It should be personal smoke. She hid a Fuso and Konigsberg in her smoke cloud.... Her guns were good, not devastating but the ability to drop out of detection and fire ten salvos when you can't be seen.... is OP.
  7. Just had a game against an Exeter, which was an honour. Strong ship. Her smoke goes on much too long, though - RN DD, 45 seconds or so, is plenty with that reload.

    First impressions - patch 0.8

Yes, and very annoying. Quite dispiriting getting to the end of a tough game in Huang He with 4k health left but thinking "I can still get into a good attacking position, take a cap, smoke up and set fires on a BB, if I'm careful", knowing that I'm one BB salvo from being back in port. But....there's a CV on the other side of the map who has had zero reduction in his health or combat powers over the course of the game, and who can spot or shoot me as he wishes, with no comeback. Game Over. Less Fun. What's the difference between a unicum and a potato? One understands what they're doing and why. Now they're both clueless. The meta has been smashed to bits and people aren't sure what to do. As a member of the thoroughly mediocre and slightly baffled, I'm thrilled - they're all as confused as me! - but I'm not sure it's good for the game. Much better than that sector reinforcement rubbish. Can you imagine if torpedoes worked like that? It felt good when the CVs were in their corner doing something else to someone else. We had a normal game in their absence. Too much spotting, I'm afraid. There is no point in bringing a ship with good concealment if you can't smoke up and hide from the planes. Huang He/Leander are massively buffed compared to other Tier VI cruisers because they can go dark in their smoke. RN DDs the same. They are effective, but they're an embarrassing bodge. Give us proper AA. I definitely felt like this is the death of the DD. I'm not very good at them but they were the most fun to play because of the ninja/knife-fight aspect. Creep around stealthily, turn a corner and get into a sudden death contest. Fun! Now CVs spot you from the moon and they force you out of the front line and into a no-fun zone.

[new AA mechanics] about the non-overlapping auras

They can't make it work like this. By only counting the number of weapons and their respective DPS in each AA aura they create a situation where Destroyers can almost never have effective AA due to the physical dimensions of the ship and the number of weapons / amount of DPS they can have relative to a BB. It's always going to be lopsided. I would suggest that they should start normalising AA within the auras based on the dimensions of the ship, reflecting the density of fire available. Give a CL a base value of x1 and then normalise so that a Clemson gets x2, and a Yamato ×0.5, etc... You'd probably end up with a more manageable range of AA values overall. We could also do with a few more AA hull builds so that ships like Atlanta can be sent out as competent AA cruisers.

What is going on with WoWs?

Quite, some very daring attacks on the British fleet in the Mediterranean. The Italian Navy was also superb in anti submarine warfare, as the British found to their cost. And, of course, with regard to the Russian Navy, the Italians were the Black Sea fleet's main opposition (and a much superior force)

    CV’s are released

That's the best complaint on the NA forums, no co-op CV bots so the Matchmaker puts in a BB instead. Every Tier X CV on the player team means another Montana or Yamato on the enemy side. They are not happy.

Problem with WGC trying to update to 0.8.0

Aren't there various pieces of maintenance going on until 0800 today?

    Farewell to RTS CV's

What I'm saying is that Tomorrow's Tier X CV is probably better than today's - and too good, most likely - but the rest of the line are having a tougher time. Not so surprising - the "even Tier only" CV idea has misfired: everyone wants to play the new CVs, fewer ships of other classes in the game, lots of newbie Tier VI CVs in games with Tier VIII cruisers and BBs, which have just had their their AA buffed to allow them to defend against Tier X CVs. Owchie. Lots of complaints about perma spotting too, in games with more than one CV. It looks as if they haven't fixed that. The only people happy are the BB drivers who hated getting stealth torp'd.

    Farewell to RTS CV's

You should read the feedback on the NA server, where 0.8.0 is already live. Basically... CVs do OK at Tier X, where the planes are on a reasonably level playing field to the AA ships they face (bear in mind that at Tier X they are never low-Tier). Reports from Tiers VI and VIII are of a world of pain, especially as a) players are still learning the controls of the new ships and b) everyone else has brought their AA A-game and the place is awash with Atlanta, Worcester, Kidd, AA Spec captains, and the like, and people aren't finding it as much fun as many of the PTS testers thought they might.
  15. Longer than that. WG have gone a bit nuts with this patch, tbh. Adding the new CVs would be complicated enough but with the change/nerf to gun bloom mechanics and BB/Cruiser detectability... it's going to feel like a different game for a while. And that's going to mean a fair few people using their re-roll second accounts rather than allowing WG's Very Public Test Server to ruin their stats... so not the "normal" game at all. I would expect the New Abnormal to be in place for two or three months, at least.

[new AA mechanics] about the non-overlapping auras

So WG are organising AA guns into auras by calibre and range, then? Hmm. That wont work too well unless they rebuff the AA configurations of cruisers to late war specs and reconsider the role and range of certain weapons. The thing is that mid WW2 AA suites were meant to prevent planes dropping their ordnance accurately by degrading their ability to do so: chip damage, basically. This has never really been in the game - if the planes are still flying, they can still fight as well as ever - and AFAIK it's not in the rework either (possibly even less so, if they've removed the panic / drop scatter mechanic). So if that's the case, and the focus is on destroying the planes, then ship AA spec needs to be at late WW2 Kamikaze era levels, with loads of mid range weapons being repurposed for short range defence (Juneau Mk 2 having twice as many 40mm mounts as Mark 1).

Why Belfast is needed in game

With the amount of hydro available at lower Tiers these days you'd think people would understand the dangers of static DD play. No need to let Belfast loose again, ta V much.
  18. Well, they could bodge it with a few consumables (rather like Okt. Revska) but it wouldn't be comfy. A ship with no AA armament to speak of vs a new Tier VI CV.... I would suspect nerfs to her Concealment and Traverse at Tier IV would be better. In any case, they're going to have to work out how to make 12 x 12 inch guns work at that Tier because that's where Gangut is in the Russian BB line.
  19. Viribus Unitis to Tier V? Not wholly surprised by that, although 12 inch guns vs Tier VII ships might not be so appealing. Super spotter plane consumables - and lots of them. Hybrid cruisers to replace CVs in the permaspotting role. Which would be entertaining, if game breaking. Can we have Tiger/Blake too, with their helicopters? Hide behind islands, launch a Wessex or two, spot everything and then pew pew pew with your 6 inch guns and their 3 second reload (or direct your CV onto whichever muggins was trying to cap).

    Overextending the Gneisenau

I loathed Gneisenau. I recent got a Scharnhorst out of a supercontainer and despite its smaller calibre main guns ( which makes fighting BBs a process you have to give some careful consideration) it's just much more comfortable to play. I think the main issue with Gneisenau is that her main guns are just too random, and with speed, good secondaries and torpedoes, there is a temptation to close the range and get into a brawl.... which usually results in getting melted being melted by light cruisers. Scharnhorst can stay at range, engage / disengage as needed, and blitzes any cruiser daft enough to take her on. Better rudder shift, too, so you can bait higher Tier BBs as you would do in a cruiser, set fires and wear them down.
  21. Well, that sounds dull and OP, but then the whole rework sounds dull and OP. That's what I was hinting at. They shouldn't get notified about being detected as other ships do. With all these super planes and wonderful tactics, why not just leave them to cover their own backsides?
  22. True, but it's a 50:50 chance that the CV is looking at the right side of the map to begin with. Can't be everywhere at once any more, after all. So maybe the DD mission becomes "Search and Destroy the CV" rather than "Spot and Cap"? I understand the CV ship controls are lousy - take away their ability to know when they're spotted and they could blunder into all manner of nasty things. Who could resist that?
  23. I would just like to worry them. It could be a nice little niche role for Le Terrible. Zoom up the map at 55 knots towards that CV who has absolutely no idea you're coming. Hilarity would ensue. Khaba could do the same thing....
  24. I don't like this gamer use of R*pe, tbh. It would be amusing if CVs were denied the benefit of Priority Target (or any thing else which allowed them to know they were being targeted). Make them have to do an occasional sweep to make sure some crafty DD hasn't snuck around the map edge and is bearing down/spotting them for the opposing team... that would be funny. It would also keep them from worrying ships to death. The radar change is that very WG thing of Too Much Change All At Once. Why not just let the 6s spotting change bed in first? The point of it was to ensure that radar ships had to take a more aggressive position to get full benefit from their consumable. That's not a nerf, it's a gameplay change, fairer all round. Now they can still sit their behind their island, taking no risks, and allow team-mates to zero in on the enemy....WG might as well not have bothered. The loss of speed will be a problem for the Battleships, and a little buff to Cruisers who know they can put some more distance between them and the target, but over all this is a nerf to DDs. The thing about flooding was that you had to use Dam Con on it, no choice..... so a clever DD could wait and then set the BB on fire after Dam Con had timed out. If using Dam Con on a flood becomes something you can just let play out, then that DD strategy doesn't work, you can set fires but Dam Con will just fix all of it. Not keen, really. Learning to use Damage Control properly is one of the first big milestones in Understanding The Game, it doesn't need dumbing down.
  25. Oh my. How, after all the feedback, did they arrive at the conclusion that radar ships need a buff? The flooding damage change sounds iffy, although the fact that a flooding ship will lose 33% of its engine power will probably be more significant. Any ship hit while manoeuvring and which floods will become a sitting duck. That Russian BB radar sounds like an instawin feature in Cyclone games. It should almost certainly have an extended delay or become intermittent when a cyclone is present.
