PSA: Wichita in shop today, but nerfed version
invicta2012 replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
Other Tier V premiums are available. Viribus Unitis, for example. Or Texas. We could probably do with some more. Wichita looks interesting, but not interesting enough for the price they want. If they'd made a bit more of the light cruiser hull with heavy cruiser guns thing rather than getting obsessed with radar and concealment then she'd have been better. A bit more range than her sisters (closer to Yorck and Algerie) and a Boise style heal would make her more forgiving for people dabbling with Tier VIII cruisers and a good Premium buy. -

What are we getting, though? Probably a bit early to say.... -

Well, I didn't address the argument because it wasn't framed correctly. They're not taking your battleship away and giving you a destroyer instead, or anything of the sort. You'll be getting another battleship, a bit different to the old one, in a different setting. As I described. Game mechanic changes have nerfed other ships far harder (stealth fire, smoke changes) and things like the CV Rework, AA changes, flooding chance change, more radar ships, may also change the apparent utility and value of a premium ship. But this doesnt seem to be so much of an issue. -

Well, not quite. It's more like... You lease an SUV. You pay to have it, but you don't own it. At some point the SUV fails to meet new safety legislation. So the dealer calls you back and says you can have a new SUV. That sounds like a good deal - it's new - but it's also annoying, of course: you didn't want a new one. You liked the old one, and now they've changed the driving position and the layout of the switches and this one generally isn't quite the same. So not great. But you do still have a new car. Not quite the same in the EU, and clearly there are moves afoot to reign the industry in. But, y'know. That's not about ships, so best move on. -

The GC changes aren't a bait and switch. Any one who paid normal price for it has had a good deal and will still have a decent ship (testing notwithstanding) - a Tier VI for the price of a Tier V. The only people who may have a right to be offended are those who spent £££ on loot boxes hoping to pick up a rare OP ship, and my sympathy for them is limited. I would be critical of WGs marketing for those boxes, though: it's the sort of thing which is getting the gaming industry into trouble. I know gaming is only two letters from gambling, but even so. In any case, the Wichita isn't OP so is more likely to be buffed over time... -

It is, but you can see what the ship does to T4 opponents, captain skills or no. It's one of those things where the real-life shortcomings of the ship (too small, too slow) become an advantage in WoWs, because it can turn swiftly and deliver 12 gun salvos against tissue paper enemy ships it wouldn't have come within 5 miles of in reality. I don't see it working either, but the sudden zoom from facing first generation dreadnoughts at Tier III to 1930s designs at Tier V is one of the fundamental problems of the game. -

Mmm. The problem it has is that the old Tier VIII New Orleans stank the place out so any change which makes it resemble that is pretty much going to be unpopular. -

Well.... what she says in the review is that the Wichita was balanced around the 0.7.9 meta, and now that no longer applies. WG can't really win on that front - if they'd rushed it out before 0.8.0 hit there would be grumblings about selling premium ships which are about to be nerfed by the CV rework, they put it out now and it's been balanced against a game meta which has changed and is constantly shifting. Not really a must buy. Really they should be spending their time on modelling Tsarevich or a similar ship which will never see a CV or radar.... -
Do you mean Audacious? Yes, OP, and like all CVs, going to go straight after the soft target - DDs.

Everyone loved this ship at the time... Baltimore guns with Cleveland mechanics. Now it appears to be original New Orleans with Cleveland mechanics. Doesn't sound terrible, doesn't sound like it's worth £30-35. -
USS Wichita on sale in the SEA server, My wallet stays closed though

MBV Tribute ship. That's why it's all fuzzy. -
Yup. USS Helena was the first ship to score a kill with her main battery guns using VT fuses, in 1943. https://www.navalhistory.org/2011/01/05/variable-time-fuse’s-combat-debut Although - if you look down the comments in that blog - it appears they were ineffective against wooden framed aircraft, which didn't trigger the proximity fuse. I was wondering whether the RN ever got a Mosquito (wooden framed) to fly off a carrier .... they did, with the intent of attacking battleships at anchor with bouncing bombs: https://airscapemag.com/2015/07/26/secrets-of-the-sea-mosquito/ Can we have those on an RN CV?

Perth doesn't have 6k concealment and 3.5 second reload, but I know what you mean. I just think that people would use it as an ambush ship rather than an anti-plane ship. Perhaps the fighters could be really, really bad at spotting other ships? -

A destroyer with a spotter plane?? Can you imagine how people would react to that? Better rename her the USS Saltminer and have done with it. (Great Premium, though. ) -

Commerce? C'mon, this is hardly unexpected. If was WG I'd have had several more AA ships in the Premium Shop when 0.8.0 went live. Why not? -
Then don't change it. I've seen people playing this ship, their main complaint seems to be that it's a bit boring. Looks like a continuation of the Caledon type to me, and I love that ship:
-
She'd be OP at Tier V. This is a ship with the same torpedoes at the Duca D'Aosta, so they go 12k, do 13.5k damage and can only be detected 1k away. At Tier V most destroyers can't stealth torp - Leone has a 5k stealth torp window, and if someone bumps into her.... she has eight guns, far more than any other DD at Tier V, even if they do throw pies and have a slow reload. Play it like a conventional DD and you will be disappointed. Like the Yahagi, it's a bit of hybrid.
-
Nah. Mid-Tier AA flak burst damage has been put back to where it should have been before they messed it up in 0.8.1, and the graph trends now appear to make sense in a way that they can balance the CV planes around. It probably won't be too much fun playing a T6 carrier until the next hotfix, though.

Giulio Cesare to be changed to T6.
invicta2012 replied to BanzaiPiluso's topic in General Discussion
Yes. Funnily enough, though, before Christmas they were chucking KK, Huange He and Texas at me at discounted rates - £7 a time. Three ships which have a great role to play in the new CV meta, and were which only ever "lemons" in the eyes of players after an E-Z win. We do. I spent a fair few quid on Xmas boxes and didn't get any special ships, but then I didn't really expect to.... they're a hustle. You might get something close to the value you put in (I did, a Scharnhorst and resources towards a Musashi) but it's like betting on horse racing... most of the time the punter loses. -
Will you adding "3 years of world of warships collection " containers to the premium store

I hope so. I am *one* container from finishing the collection and getting a Supercontainer. -
Multirant: Is there some sort of trick to leveling beyond 6 in the current Game (without going broke ingame and /or IRL)?
invicta2012 replied to Zerberus76's topic in Archive
Tier VI is fine, matey. That's where I play most of my games and the effect of the rework is negligible. A bit of teamwork and overlapping AA auras will help you negate enemy CVs: they have lots of planes but they are fragile, and their attacks do not do anything near the damage of those of surface ships. I would suggest that you take a pause at Tier VI and consolidate. When you get to Tier VII you will suddenly find yourself in competition with hard-hitting accurate BBs, HE spamming cruisers and general irritations like radar and high-tier CVs. Weaknesses get horribly exposed (as I found out). Concentrate on mastering your Bayern, as you seem to have enjoyed the other KM BBs; but play some other BB lines (the French are good) and get to grips with cruisers; they are unforgiving but the skills you learn are invaluable for all ship lines. -
Fair enough re the Exeter reload, but could you try to give her RN DD smoke, rather than RN Cruiser? I've often thought this would be a good option on Emerald, too: 10s action, 40s dispersion is not going to allow a cruiser to disappear, but it's a useful option to allow a torp launch or unseen change of direction (essential in Emerald's case....)

CV interaction with other ships - i think we need balancing fast
invicta2012 replied to DFens_666's topic in General Discussion
Well, yes. My last 6 Monaghan games have averaged 58k damage. (That's x 3.5 my career average in DDs). Why? Well...People have stopped playing destroyers because, apparently, they are impossible to play in the new meta. But people have also stopped playing CVs. The end result is lots of unescorted battleships floating around in a blob running into torpedo walls. It is fill yer boots time out there at the moment.
