I’m absolutely terrible at the game, any tips?

To the advice about the interface and minimap, I would add switching to the Dynamic Crosshair sight. Much easier. Just bear in mind that the time to target it gives you is based on a ship which is doing 28-30 knots and adjust accordingly.

    Belfast [Post Giulio Cesare saga]

Very quick, though, and has good guns. I used to take her out in Ranked sprints, knowing there would be a Kami on the opposite team. If I found it, I could generally kill it, because it couldn't run away. It often resulted in my own demise shortly after, but it seemed a fair trade.

    2 types of players

What I tell mine is to go and look it up. The chances are pretty good that someone has faced the same situation and has probably been so kind as to document it. No need to sweat blood trying to work it out for yourself. I know I have gained an enormous amount from Wows CCs who take the time to explain menchanics and tactics. Perhaps someone needs to make a YouTube video about being effective as a low tier CV....

    2 types of players

Well, he wants a Tier X, but the game is presenting him a double road block: no odd Tier ships, ensuring he'll be low tier more than usual, and predictable AA mechanics which are not player managed. What can he do in game play to counter continuous AA damage from Tier X ships? You can be sure he doesn't know. I may have done something like that. More than a few times. Generally when my own skill and understanding was so lacking that seeing certain MM combinations, ships or player behaviours could cause the red mist to descend. These days I know better, of course, but grinding ships can still be a frustrating experience (and it's why I do much less of it than in previous years... Trying to have a fun experience is much more important than trying to get to Tier X and having your failings chucked back at you all the time).

Giulio Cesare to be changed to T6.

There isn't one, really. WG hasn't been paying much attention to Tier V premiums of late, as they don't sell for too much £££. I suspect the community is only really interested in a standard Tier V BB if it is OP. Minas Gerais or Agincourt might fight the bill....

    Belfast [Post Giulio Cesare saga]

Belfast certainly was OP because she could generally out fight what she could out spot... not so much, any more with ships like Fiji and their hydro. I quite often smoked-up Belfasts being given the charge, with inevitable results for a cruiser without torpedoes. Kamikaze et al can be countered by fast destroyers like Podvoisky which outrun and outgun her, so we need more of those counter ships rather than nerfs. Gremy is more difficult to balance because of her heavier gun armament... I'd be looking at tweaking her concealment as being easy to spot is a feature of the Russian/Soviet gunboat line. GC, though, doesn't have a hard counter, either tactically or in ship lines.

Giulio Cesare to be changed to T6.

Why on earth should you get a currency intended to allow the purchase of high-Tier ships in exchange for a Tier V?

Giulio Cesare to be changed to T6.

No interest in a Super Soviet BB, Comrade? I make the Doubloon value of GC to be 130,000 Free XP, which should save a bit of grinding to higher Tiers. Alternatively you could get yourself a new Tier VII DD, Tier VI Cruiser, or one of the Premiums they'll put in the Arsenal for doubloons.

Giulio Cesare to be changed to T6.

Well, no. They changed smoke and stealth and offered refunds to buyers of Perth and Belfast, etc. They reworked the CVs and offered compensation to owners of Kaga, Enterprise, Saipan and GZ. So they should test the GC changes and, if they decide to change it, offer compensation to owners who no longer want it. Personally I will keep it regardless, as it would be a great ops ship at VI, but others may not feel that way.

Soviet BBs - The real reason for the nerf of CVs?

I run they should just take the Cesare approach and whack them all up a Tier. As it stands the entire line looks over powered....

Then they should, at least from ship borne munitions.

    End of an Era

Which is why the mechanic needs changing. Spotting the CV so that teammates can fire on it and incapacitate it should be a valid tactic to prevent CV stalemate in the end game (depressingly common).

    End of an Era

CVs tend to take little damage during the course of a game, so a DD which chases them will find itself on the wrong side of a 15k vs 50k health pool disparity and very little chance of being able to use its most powerful weapons in response. Making CVS more flammable (but perhaps increasing the fire immunity period of DCP to compensate) would restore the balance to the RTS days.

    End of an Era

A realistic solution to this is to increase the base fire chance of HE shells on CVs. Considering an active CV's flight deck is a tinderbox of fuel and munitions they should burn easily and for a long time... That would give a DD hunting a CV a chance of respite.

It's getting stupid now, we need to stop this and step up.

Closely related to Jim Beam, if the level of coherence in that link is anything to go by.

HMS Furious torpedo aircraft should be Swordfish

I agree. There may be some punctuation missing, as I was saying that the torp bombers should be Albacores, but that Skuas never were able to carry such things.
  17. Emerald and Nurnberg have been buffed... Nurnberg's shorter reload makes her quite the firebug. Tiers III and IV are not fun places for BBs, with a few honorable exceptions you're usually playing slow inaccurate ships which have been gimped to ensure they don't dominate. V and up is where the fun begins.

HMS Furious torpedo aircraft should be Swordfish

Albacores. Skuas were never torpedo bombers, they were fighter / bombers. Furious certainly had Swordfish early in WW2, then Albacores, then Barracudas. I think WG is having trouble balancing the biplanes, though, as their low speed means they take too much damage from the continuous AA at higher Tiers, rather than being the flak-dodging advantage it was meant to be.

    End of an Era

I will admit that I had a chuckle when I bounced into a Domination game in my Haida, looked at the enemy line up and saw seven radar ships (Missouri, Buffalo, Chapayev, Edinburgh, Indianapolis x2, Hseinyang) on the enemy team but it didn't seem to be too much of a problem with the way the game went. The same with CVs and Destroyers, you can't charge a DD into a cap anymore without support, and I actually quite like that. It seems to have given cruisers more of a role than just hiding behind an island and spamming HE, the fact that CVs spot so many ships so early means that BBs can't hide at the back and snipe, and DDs now seem to be about more than 14pt captain stealth wins.... while I don't like playing CVs the recent Hotfix has got the gameplay into a happier place. CVs can't harass DDs the way that they originally did but players of all classes are having to think a little bit more about what they do rather than "play the meta", and it's a refreshing change.
  20. Not that difficult (I've already done all the Exeter Pt1 Marathon missions). Takes a bit of catwalk action in a light cruiser, practice yer dodging. Parts three and four of the whole marathon look a bit of a slog, though, especially as they've made it so you can't do it in a Tier V. Time to break out the Fiji/KGVs....
  21. The more cynical amongst us would say that WG wants you to spend doubloons on Free XP to skip the dreadful experience of being a Tier IV CV. I would recommend practising CV gameplay with the Free US/IJN CVs at Tier IV and aiming to get the RN Tier VI from the event. Hermes looks nice but her planes are just cannon fodder. The MM remembers my, er, performance with the original Emerald and keeps throwing me in the training pool. You appear to be being punished for being successful (although Emerald is still much better low-tier than she was).
  22. 38 and 39 in Emerald. Those poor Tier IV CVs, they just don't understand what's happening to their planes.....
