Idea for change to defensive aa

Right, and....? If take my destroyer and go charging into a cap, all "Damn The Torpedoes", my game will probably be over in the first five minutes. I do understand that WG were trying to make CVs appeal to players who didn't much care for the tactics of other classes, but that can't be allowed to mess up all the other game play. CV damage doesn't scale well. Anyone can brush off a Tier IV CV, Tier VI CVs are a nuisance but survivable in a ship with reasonable AA, TVIII and especially Tier X just have too much damage to be ignored. Dodging becomes more difficult the higher you go - how are you supposed to dodge four torps delivered from 1k away? - and people just want a limited number of tools to mitigate damage.

Every class has a "don't do that" moment, a set of circumstances in which it is best to wait. Why shouldn't CVs?
  4. The raw damage you can do, though, with MBRB.... tough stuff for other DDs to deal with.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

Not a legendary game but it's so nice to take a DD and make the CV cry.
  6. I've seen Flamu and Notser's reviews of Kleber and Mogador and they like them, but they're high skill ships and very vulnerable to CVs. I think they look great fun, Le Terrible and Le Fantasque do as well, although I think the mid-part of the French DD line (Guepard/Vauquelin) might be hard going as they're not quick enough for that run-and-gun play style, even with speed boost.

Giulio Cesare Bow armor Ninja Nerf

A nerf to the GC wouldn't be a bad move, though. All the naysayers to that have tied WGs hands with regards to nerfing premiums, which means we are now stuck with the blasted Enterprise and it's rather OP rocket planes.

Soviet Battleships, another WG fail !?

Ridiculous torpedoes, good but short ranged guns, cool looks, a tendency to explode when someone breathes on them, and very long ship names. Emmanule Filiberto Duca D'Aosta says hi....

Idea for change to defensive aa

AA is horribly inconsistent, mostly because WG's initial idea of flak damage being the key defence didn't work: too predictable and easy to work around. They had to come up with the quick fix of continuous damage zones, which then unleashed the CV defence blob. If they made flak work better, it would mean they could dial continuous damage back to where it started : better for everyone.

Idea for change to defensive aa

Nah. It's early days with the CV Rework, plenty of time for balancing. And we are talking about balancing, nothing more. CVs are more popular and more fun to play than before, so mission accomplished on that score. But. Big, big, but. The concept of unstoppable CV chip damage is always going to be unreasonable to smaller ships because it hits their most limited resource (health) proportionally the hardest. So those ship players need ways of mitigating that damage (not necessarily by shooting down planes). This is fair and justified for good, enjoyable games. AA has been balanced so that CVs can attack any ship without being destroyed.. .. for exactly the same reason. Fair's fair. As for DFAA... It probably should do a combination of extra continous damage and attack mitigation. That means CVs don't lose resources, but neither do they succeed in attack. That's similar to properly deployed hydro and other defensive tools.

Idea for change to defensive aa

Well, they don't have to. Very few players are asking for complete immunity from CV drops. What's wanted is more tools to allow better survivability and counter play. You can neither improvise, adapt or overcome without them and the anti CV toolkit looks a bit threadbare at the moment.

    Premium Königsberg?

The Soviet cruisers are all very different, though. Makharov is a bit of a makeweight (although quite strong if you face one....) but KK, Molotov and Murmansk are very different boats indeed. Indeed. No room for an Arethusa, Ajax, Dido, Sheffield, Ceylon, Swiftsure or Superb. None whatsoever. No. No No. Then make them 1000. That's £4, and if they're going to have T5 Ranked events then people will buy them for their Acasta or Nicholas just for the buffs, they don't have to be pretty.

Well, we can only try. Well... I would do it like this. BFT - gives a chance to scatter attacking planes and make attacks less accurate (5% chance per Tier every 5 seconds to increase dispersion of attacking rockets, bombs, etc) as well as current boosts. % chance could vary by ship class. AFT - Increases AA DPS and gives sector control/sector efficacy (boosts from Manual AA skill as well as current AFT boosts) New 4 point skill Defensive AA Expertise - Gives the player +1 DFAA consumable and allows for manual selection of Flak patterns (control toggles through 1 - standard, 2 - pattern A, 3 - pattern B, 4 - random). This would benefit DDs most as BFT is a standard DD skill, but the AFT/DAAE changes also allow cruisers a chance to spec into properly dangerous AA roles. Secondary BB builds might also become AA monsters, but that's a fair trade given how much else they give up. Defensive AA's Flak pattern control would allow defending players to ward off unicum CV players by removing the predictable nature of current flak bursts - although RNGesus might still let them through. Would be pretty awesome as a support skill as, in concert with other players, your flak would be all over the sky. The idea isn't to ruin CV players' fun altogether, just to make them act with a little more caution and have fewer "Ha, I win" scenarios.

The Tier X and badly balanced Premium ones do, but there's only so much that can be done with those that doesn't involve the nerf bat, which WG will no doubt wieid softly and slowly to allow all those Premium/GC change deniers to regret their choices at great length. But yes, every surface ship should have the ability to scatter the occasional drop, there should be variable flak patterns to surprise CV players, and I'd add the effect of Manual AA to AFT so that the skill became worth the investment needed : more AA range and damage. It wouldn't affect DFAA, though, as that could get OP.

    I want pokemon captains

I would rather have Pikachu or Eevee than the Azur Lane things, so clickbait away....
  16. Yes, but Atlanta was a flawed design, with too much longer range AA and not enough mid range. It was also intended to work as part of a Fleet AA screen, so you should do that too... Div up with another cruiser or DD and you can make CVs weep. Helena, Boise or Sims would be good. As to the poll... I like games with CVs in but the planets have to be aligned right. Random MM, even Tier CVs, 2 CV games, not really knowing who your teammates will be.... It makes taking certain ships into Randoms a real risk of being 20 minutes in the no fun zone. And that's a shame. Having just got my collectors club badge it is a bit sad to think I have to wait for the Operations rotation to change before I can play Aigle or Normandie and enjoy it.

    WHAT PLANES ARE THOSE

It looks like the front of a P51D Mustang and the tail of a P39 Airacobra. For those who don't know what a P39's tail looks like, it's quite distinctive....

Yuudachi announced as tier 7 Premium

They might give it to a Commonwealth line, as those are largely British designs, but why would the IJN need it? They do fine - very well indeed - with twin torpedoes. Kami R never seemed to lack anything much....

Yuudachi announced as tier 7 Premium

I think I preferred WG's old-school Pin-Up video to all this Anime malarky, to be honest. Single fire torps are an RN thing, never IJN. Although it would be fun. Very, very much fun.

Sorry, I am not a Germanophone, and I was on my phone....

    AA question

Yup. It wouldn't be hard to assign each zone a rating, though, and that might help people understand why their Texas or Atlanta doesn't have the same AA heft it used to (too much short range and too much long range AA, respectively).
  24. Tiger's armour was considerably better than Repulse and Renown, though - although I think she probably would have a pronounced weakness around the magazine of Y turret, if ever implemented in the game... that would be an Achilles Heel similar to Hood's 4 inch magazine.
  25. invicta2012

    AA question

Well, who does understand the dratted mechanics any more? If most people see an AA rating of 60 - which is the same as on a Tier VII BB like KGV - they will expect it to have as much stopping power as a Tier VII, not "oh, sorry, you have lots and lots of 20mm short range guns but the enemy planes won't be in that zone for long enough for them to do any damage or stop the attack"....
