Pyotr and Izmail are strong ships but I'm not sure they will like Tiers V and VI so much when ships like Agano and Leone get released (whenever that is) . 10 and 12 k torps, at those Tiers, being launched from stealth.... Not good news for slow moving bow tankers and static playstyles, especially when evasion means showing broadside.

CV, sug. limited attack sorties/no spotting
invicta2012 replied to Yosha_AtaIante's topic in General Discussion
The king of the seas is the submarine, as any fule kno. The Aircraft Carrier is, and always was, a glass cannon: long reach, powerful alpha, acutely vulnerable. Within the time frame of WoWS there were two years (1942/43) when the carrier was king, and even that happened in one theatre only... After that tactics and weapons evolved and carriers had to wait until the advent of jet aircraft and missiles before they were powerful again. Would be nice to see some of this reflected in the game. With regards to 0.8.4, I'm not keen on the starting launch delay for CVs: I think players have adapted and expect to be spotted. Like chess players, they've changed their opening moves. CVs that come spotting now often find DDs tucked in next to an AA pal and lose planes. The proposed launch delay will just add 30 seconds more inaction before the game can develop. Not good. When it comes to limiting sorties, probably not a good idea. But CVs should probably have short delays added to their launch window, especially when recovering squads with the F key, and should probably have a higher fire chance during this window. Rearming and refueling was a dangerous business and many carriers were lost by being attacked during refuelling.... Currently we have a silly situation with under fire CVs being merrily able to change from torps to rockets or bombs as they wish. Other ships have to pick their ammo type and wait to make a change... So should CVs. -
Do cyclones and strormfronts ruin the gaming experience?
invicta2012 replied to OldschoolGaming_YouTube's topic in General Discussion
It's a bit like Epicentre mode. I wouldn't choose it, but sometimes you get the most compelling games because of the restrictions. Unlike Epicentre, though, I probably wouldn't be pleased if I had picked a cruiser to play, as they come off worst in this mode, specially those without torps, hydro or radar. -
Victory campaign - what is the logic?
invicta2012 replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
I think they're a great bunch of lads, and presumably this is as relevant to me (as a Brit) as the RN event stuff was to a Russian player. It adds flavour, at least. -
Victory campaign - what is the logic?

Pick a team, get some tokens, get some stuff. I only really pay attention if I want the big prize, and I don't want Lazo, CVs or Russian BBs (I tend to sell the early access ones). -
CV, sug. limited attack sorties/no spotting
invicta2012 replied to Yosha_AtaIante's topic in General Discussion
Because the interaction between CV and surface ships is inadequate, and the only way in which the game has been prevented from turning into a CV farm is by lowering the damage potential of their attacks. Lots of good ideas here about AA and fighters. Not sure about limiting the number of strikes but perhaps slowing CV launch intervals (but giving a booster consumable to compensate), increasing CV fire times and preventing plane takeoff when the CV is on fire would be sensible. -
Newport Station Operation - flooded with potatoes

Whatever, matey. Your point appears evasive - would you like to add to the thread about hiding DDs from CV attacks? They could do with your expertise. -
How can a DD escape from air rocket attack?
invicta2012 replied to RedV's topic in General Discussion
They're not really very interesting? Somewhere down the line WoWs development has passed from people who liked Naval history into the hands of people who design games for those who like winning above all else. New ship lines become an exercise in gimmickry, a temporary victory bandwagon until the next line comes along and supersedes it. WG could do better, to be honest. -

I play Ops when I have ships to grind and when I can't quite face the Horror of Randoms, or when I fancy playing some ships which excel in Ops more than Randoms (Aigle, usually). -
How can a DD escape from air rocket attack?
invicta2012 replied to RedV's topic in General Discussion
Fair play to you, but Asashio is a special case. For most other DDs you have to catch the CV napping... Going looking for them in Jervis or Gadjah is likely to end badly if they see you first. Even trolling then is unwise: short fire durations, take off while on fire, it's much more difficult to attack a CV with guns than it is to do the same to a battleship. -

There's a laugh. To answer the OP's point: with difficulty. Sudden changes in speed and direction will help, turning off AA and using smoke will help you go undetected, falling back on AA support might help, so will using cover, but generally speaking you're in trouble if you don't have AA good enough to give the CV a bloody nose. And even that won't work if you're low tier. You can see how bad it is in that DDs no longer want to go CV hunting, as without support it will end badly: no DD has enough DPS to take 40k of CV health in the time it would take a CV to take 15k of theirs, if they are smart enough to be sailing away from you. -
Tier IV CVs remain a mistake, as they have always been. WG should have modelled Tiers V-X for the CV relaunch and not put themselves, and the players, in the silly position they're currently in.

You can always get in close and stick AP shells under his ribs. 6 Citadels in one salvo from 3k in a Dunkerque..... -

invicta2012 replied to SEN_SEN_Channel_Portugue's topic in General Discussion
Indeed, but that's really only a cruiser level contribution, and CVs tend to be a bit of a liability in the final stage (too many targets). Agreed about BBs camping in the repair circle, though: a pet hate of mine. It's a fair place to end up later on in the mission - so you can end up shooting the Izumo with main guns and one of the other BBS with secondaries - but not the whole time.... -

The main problem with this mission at the moment is people bringing CVs, which can't do enough damage to be worthwhile.... -
developing advice Proposal about malicious use of "Map Border Humping"
invicta2012 replied to CapitanoAraym's topic in General Discussion
Sailing into the border and using it as a way of losing speed, rapidly changing direction or evading incoming fire is a legitimate tactic. Everyone is aware of it, the effect is predictable, counter plays are available. (and No, I don't do it, because I mostly play DDs and it's not good tactics to be on the border in a DD). -
CVs are not the problem in Mid Tier, bad DDs are
invicta2012 replied to sgtmarple's topic in General Discussion
Generally: Smoking up too early and eating Torpedoes, or pushing into a cap, being spotted, and shot at by the entire enemy team who have all pushed up while the DD's team mates are all sailing in circles at the back thinking how cool they look. Arf. Had an amusing game the other day when I spotted six red ships in the first three minutes. My team made their excuses and sailed in the opposite direction, which I thought was charming. -
People haven't worked out the counter plays to it yet : haven't worked out that it's not as worried about HE spam / fires as other BBs, or how to get through the absurd deck armour. But really it's a slow, lumbering thing with no AA, poor torp protection and a vulnerable citadel... Cruisers should avoid it, it needs to be swatted hard by BBs and Destroyers. God help anyone who has to try and take on one which has parked up next to a cap, though... Its like the return of Bastion mode.

Play Tier VI and VII? CVs but nothing scary, some radars but not too many radars, some great ships to play. Also : forget solo YOLO play, at least until five minutes in. Supporting your fellow DD players is much more important.
-
This is also why PTS isn't much good at providing balancing feedback. Is all wonky, comrades!, is the best it gets.
-
That's quite a good marathon for a freebie, though, and lots of good Tier VI ships to be had if you can do it.
-
Funnily enough, Enterprise AP bombs are something everyone agrees on (as being completely dumb).

Russian battleship line's meaning and future possibilities.
invicta2012 replied to Markhand's topic in General Discussion
Because the Russian server wants Russian ships, and that's OK. I would like to see some of the lower Tier Russian BBs in the game - some were quite good and didn't get sunk at Tsushima, and they do have good cruisers and DDs. -
Yup. Generally speaking torp planes attack from near straight on/abaft, limiting the ability of the attacked ship to maneuver, with disastrous results (in most situations).
-
I wouldn't worry about it. The British 15 inch gun proved itself, being the most heavily used of the entire battleship era and undoubtedly scoring more ship-to-ship hits than any other capital ship weapon (based on Jutland, Narvik, Calabria, Mers-El-Kebir, Cape Matapan, etc). I'm sure WG is referring to the obsolescence of the Battleship itself rather than the weapon.
