again with the Christmas gamble boxes.
invicta2012 replied to thiextar's topic in General Discussion
Well....I'm hardly a novice myself. You could argue that there is some element of skill based reward going on but I don't really think that's it... it's about encouraging people to spend money on ladder-climbing to Tier X (which isn't the most fun Tier) so that they get those rewards. Thanks for the offer - enjoy them if you want them - but I'll pass. -

This is rather the problem with events like this. Players with All the Ships get so many chances, the free boxes have to have a very low chance of decent rewards - or a decent chance of low rewards. I'll take a couple of shots at the pay lootboxes but - given that I don't want Puerto Rico - Gorizia and the possibility of three Tier VIII permacamos (9000 doubloons, £25 worth, so break even) + cashback for Trento, Guepard and Izmail sounds decent enough. -

I will think about buying some Santa crates but one at a time (did that with Black Friday) and if they drop 5 camos - regardless of how much those camos boost XP - then that'll be it. Ship list looks long. I wonder how many Genovas will drop? Quite a few, I suspect. At least I know I have most of the low Tier Premiums so I'll be compensated, I suppose.... Overall...I don't particularly want Gorizia but that looks the better value for me as I have some Tier VIIIs in need of a perma camo, and at 3k doubloons a pop for three ships that's a reasonable return. -
There are two slightly dubious ships at Tier VI and VII and some liberties being taken with the armament - someone pointed out that Visby didn't have a double turret - but otherwise Sweden has quite a notable heritage of destroyer design, reflected in this line.

That's good. I think we've shown (through the various threads about it here) that we've got at least two whole lines of Pan-Euro DDs that could be in the game (with models to spare).

Italian cruisers are intentionally that bad?
invicta2012 replied to Fede15thPzDiv's topic in General Discussion
Nino Bixio, Trento and Di Guissano are good, given the armour profiles of ships at that Tier, but they are "aim well and make it count" ships, so getting the hang of SAP is important. And at those tiers, where SAP penetrates almost everything apart from main belt, you can do some good damage: think like a DD and go for bow/stern or superstructure up close, and deck pens in the same areas at range. -

Well, this has more to do with the state of Lower Tier Gameplay at the moment (CVs) and the fact that they seem to be releasing some, shall we say, quirky Tier Vs? Viribus, Yahagi, Genova, Hill and Siroco aren't going to be popular ships (even though Yahagi seems to be playing well among those that have her, might pick that one up soon....) The Indian ones will be interesting (especially if they can see their way to doing a Boise/NdJ and making Delhi available as Achilles for the Commonwealth tree) but with two main cruiser lines coming I can't see too many Premium CLs finding their way into the schedule any time soon. -
Indeed. And if they have the same speed and/or survivability they will be very tricky ships to play. I do have a Hseinyang and I can't say that the radar version is first choice. Without Friesland level dakka it's quite vulnerable.
-
Well, try it out. Take out radar Hseinyang and see if it's fun....

Yup, they are good at that. Playing Trento in Operations proves it.... she absolutely wrecks destroyers, and her AP is punchy enough (comparable to Duca D'Aosta). But they need a few more tools against battleships. Reducing the cooldown time on consumables would help, it doesn't seem worth investing in Premium consumables and Superintendent, because it all takes so long to reload. -

All good reasons, and although I'd love them to be in the game, you'd struggle to find a difference for them. Only the Dido/Black Prince/K-25 series of cruiser design are genuinely different. They've also served in lots of other navies, and that best suits testing and gimmicks rather than RN National Flavour; that's why we've got Perth (modified Leander), Huang He (Arethusa) already and Delhi (late war Leander class) and Mysore (1950s improved Crown Colony) class coming. So if there are RN CLs other than the small gun cruisers available you've got quite a limited choice. Effingham - Hawkins class rebuilt as a 6 inch gun cruiser (with no torpedoes) Southampton/Gloucester - could be Tier VII as replacements for Belfast Swiftsure/Superb - Probably the latter with a notional gun upgrade to MK XV guns (same as Neptune) if AP only, or just as built at Tier VIII with HE. -
Co-op used to be a bit of a joke. But the reduction in quality of randoms, CV Rework, OP premiums and multiple events with grindy directives has made them more popular than ever. But it also means they are full up with people doing weird missions (score 500000 secondary hits), playing new ships, or terrible bots. So the standard isn't high and it won't show anyone how to play proper games. The whole "shoving out of the way" thing is annoying, but the best tip is to simply avoid German bbs, as it's always them and their apparent desperation to score a torpedo kill.

Ackcheloi..... it was one of the names approved for the late WW2 heavy cruisers. According to Norman Friedman, anyway. "According to Moore, Building for Victory, p 144, the names initially chosen were Benbow, Blake, Effingham and Hawke, Benbow being changed to Albemarle and Effingham to Cornwallis by the new Ship Names Committee early in 1941. These names were approved by King George VI. Friedman, Norman. British Cruisers . Pen and Sword. Kindle Edition." -

Swiftsure or Superb would be nice, as would a Southampton or Sheffield, but the problem is that the Silver RN CLs are very good and there's not much you can do to make the premiums different. Give them anything extra and they'd be OP, and without that, why buy them? -
I think the correct response is ... bork bork bork!
-
Different pronunciations.... they're actually quite distinct. Find yourself a latino to explain it....

Italian firing range and concealment
invicta2012 replied to SSGdoncollier's topic in General Discussion
To give you some reason to use a 10pt captain? These ships do not have many options for being improved by captain skills (unlike lots of other cruisers). You do have a spotter plane, as well, so these ships do have a very good reach. -

Throw some money at the santa crates and hope for Belfast? Either that or buy Perth and pretend it's referring to Scotland. -
Probably just attribution bias but I know what you mean. Last SC I got was 30,000 Free XP. Coincidently, that's just what I needed to unlock Zara. Handy, though.
-
Oh yes. But it's quite funny to hear him calling you "an absolute a*se".
-
Yes. Have they removed his swearing yet? I was quite surprised by that. He also gets very arsey about team damage, which is quite amusing.

Let's talk about Pan-Europe wide tech tree possibilities
invicta2012 replied to HussarKaz's topic in General Discussion
Well, Tier I is a practice Tier. The same thing happened to Black Swan, which (in reality) could outgun many Tier VI destroyers. It is a bit sad, though, but inevitable as WG are definitely cutting corners in order to churn out ship lines (a bit too quickly, IMHO). -
Ehrenskold, then.... Klas Horn is III, Goteborg IV, Visby V.
-
That was rather the point. Without an improved French style Hull or boost, they could be too squishy, like the first version of Le Terrible. I think we were hoping for Sleipner, which is a notable historic ship and about the right size for Tier II.
-
Or just take the Tier III and make it bigger, in the case of Skane. Not a lot of effort has gone into that one. Romulus was Italian, and looked it: all the Swedish designs were flush decked until Halland, and Skane isn't. She should look more like the rebuilt Gotenborg class. Also notable that Romulus was laid down in the 1930s: so forget all about Eras and Tiers having any relationship.
