Christmas, Love and goodness, giving and caring
invicta2012 replied to SamuraiShakaViking's topic in General Discussion
Yes, but we don't. Which is why society sets up rituals to remind us. No bad thing. -
Amids the malcontent regarding the X-mas content, I want to express my gratitude & approval for the HMS Ajax camouflage we can earn.

It might be - I think you know more about this than I do! But HMS Hero was shown - very briefly - in Marseille harbour in that camo as part of a BBC documentary about the run up to the start of WW2 (told from a French perspective). I remember looking at it and thinking the ship looked great, and that would make a splendid in-game camo. Well, I like Icarus a lot. But an RN DD leader would be something I would buy, for sure. -
What you can still do during the Christmas event
invicta2012 replied to Sentrox's topic in General Discussion
Consider it an incidental ship. You buy the Gorizia, get an easier grind on the first three directives, get the doubloons back, buy something else that you wanted when the post-Christmas discounts come in. Then you use the Gorizia to get the New Year perma camos through her missions, pick up a few Tier VI ships (or the equivalent in credits) and then leave it in port to collect snowflakes or whenever you fancy taking it out in Narai. -
Within those parameters, then, I would remove them.
-
Sorry, but I can't vote for either of these. You need other options. Personally I would vote for a return to the other part of RTS CV play, which was CV vs CV air combat, and which would keep the whole thing in check. It's not the CVs themselves which are OP, it's defence against CVs which is up the spout (and almost impossible to balance).

4 christmas boxes for free? only found 2
invicta2012 replied to alvarovgamer's question in Q&A Section
There are two in the Armory and two to be had from the screen where you open containers (there should be a banner at the bottom left to click on to receive them). -

There's a very nice white/red stripe Mediterranean camo for RN G and H Class DDs which would look nice on Gallant: -

He's right, you know. Perth was part of the Amphion sub class of Leander class cruisers (she has two funnels, rather than the Leander's one large trunk funnel). Oh, do. Great fun in any Tier VI Operation/Scenario battle. -
How did some players already obtain "Puerto Rico" when the "Dockyard" is still not functional?

Christmas Crates Drop Rate Project
invicta2012 replied to black_falcon120's topic in General Discussion
These results are curious. Everyone else seems to be getting Tier V ships - and my inner completist really wants the Siroco to go with my French DD lineup - where as the only ship I got was Tier VIII. Which I didn't want. -
Which premium ship would fit my playstyle?
invicta2012 replied to Purnylla's topic in General Discussion
All of the above is correct. But if you are going to learn there are far worse ships to do it in than Scharnhorst. It is quite forgiving, it does allow you to make mistakes and survive. Just don't think that because it has torpedoes you have to use them. If I had a penny for every Scharnhorst (and especially Scharn B) in a co-op match who has to rush forward and use his torpedoes and die in a hail of focus bot fire.... then I'd be able to buy Puerto Rico. Don't do it. -
JB. Even if you play her in Co-op only she is a) hilarious and b) a boon for completing those dumb directives where you need 500-5000 secondary hits. She's a Dunkerque with 1,000,000 secondary guns, AA that shreds planes, and main guns which hit hard. She doesn't like HE spam, though, so be careful of enemy cruisers.

97 ships tier 5 and up vs coal/steel gains
invicta2012 replied to Ronchabale's topic in General Discussion
If the fact that nearly all your Tier X ships are BBs is any guide... Thunderer. -
Np. Fill yer boots with those ones....
-
It can be because the transports go too far south. It can also be losing too many team mates. Saw this earlier today - two extra Fusos and an Amagi. We still won. (the thing is - and I noticed this because I was in Ark Royal - is that, like the convoying ships, these extra BBs have no AA).
-
You don't even have to do that. When you're loading into a match and you can see the team line ups, click on the Division tab. Click "join new Division" (there can be up to three available). Hey presto! You're in a division. It will end at the conclusion of the game.

Well... the player maths work out all right on Gorizia. If you treat it like a delayed BOGOF deal with cruisers then it's worth buying, probably better returns than crates. Today I have done the first NY Directive with her, unlocked Furious, and gone 2/3rds of the way to the Ajax camo. All in co-op with a few Aegis games in other ships for variety.
-
They get more powerful the higher up the Tiers you go. I have no idea whether the designs for Amalfi, Brindisi and Venizia are anything more than fantasy but when the number of guns gets above eight SAP salvos can suddenly start to do nasty damage numbers to anything. Overall I like the effect it has on Heavy Cruisers - it makes them feel powerful, especially against DDs and CLs, which too often left them standing in a DPS race - without being OP. I don't care for it too much against BBs, though, and I don't much care for the Tier V Italian cruiser at all - it's neither fish nor fowl, that one.
-
For best results, yes. Pick a ship you like and play as well as possible, and fully upgrade it. Operations are like scripted co-op games; you're playing against bots, certain things will happen at certain times, there are objectives for you to meet (displayed in game). They are popular ways of grinding ships, resources, and improving captains so expect to find some players who will be very forward and aggressive. On a first run through, just follow the team, target what they do, don't be too conservative and try not to die too early.
-
The way I read that is "Don't expect £50 worth of compensation if you purchased the Admiral pack", but the warning is fair. But it's OK. Even it was 25% less than the doubloon value of the ship in the shop, everything else is discounted too after Xmas. Wichita would become Abruzzi, Lazo, Asashio....
-
That's what I've done. It does make it easier - it's probably a 25% reduction in grind over the first three directives. Even if you have Gorizia, some of the directives are still stupid ( earn 100,000 Commander Xp???) but the easy ones (destroy 22 ships) make up for it.
-
It's a good deal, all round. Permacamos, containers, ships, captains, credits. All unlocked by buying a ship that you can earn for free or buy and get 8500 doubloon compensation when you've done with it. And then there's a 25% off ships for Doubloons coupon on Boxing Day, of course. So I reckon that £25 I spent on Gorizia, along with the missions and first three directives, will get me Wichita for doubloons (£33 in the shop), Gorizia, Furious, Izmail and Guepard + 2 New Year camos, plus what ever falls out of the Shipbuilding containers along the way. And the snowflakes. And the free containers. Probably not going to get enough coal for Georgia or Thunderer over new Year, but this lot will help, too.
-
I know. Just mentioning it in case anyone thought otherwise.
-
You don't get doubloons as compensation for the ships acquired from the Gorizia missions though (Furious, Izmail, Guepard) - that's in credits.
-
For the love of god...no more Directives!
invicta2012 replied to ForlornSailor's topic in General Discussion
You are right about the specific combat ribbon missions, but they contribute towards the credit/XP based ones. Two Aegis games in premium ships today = 500,000 credits/8000 XP (easily more with flags); that rate of progress will get through the Directives pretty swiftly.
