add air superiority squadrons to carriers
invicta2012 replied to HassenderZerhacker's topic in General Discussion
Carriers should be able to provide air defence - player controlled fighter squads. Put back the war in the air and give some balance and respite to surface ships, as well as extending the lifespan of the game (because there are at least five more lines of CVs that could go in, and which won't while the current shambles is in place). -
Question to DD drivers - friendly fire
invicta2012 replied to Fodder1978's topic in General Discussion
They do. If you are detected, they will detect the torpedoes from launch and avoid them accordingly. Not only does this mean that destroyers have to deliver their torps from around 3k away to have any hope of success (and the bots are also waiting for you to turn before they fire their main battery) it also gives rise to Scharnhorst-is-a-big-DD syndrome, where players of this ship will lose their normal BB caution and hurtle on carelessly into within 6k of the nearest red team capital ship, so as to use their torpedoes. It is these fine fellow who are also most likely to eat friendly torpedoes. -
Quite so. Directive 3 is done. Gorizia doubloons recovered. New ships incoming on Boxing Day (or any of the 365 days after that). And I am out of here. Have a splendid Christmas, winter festival, mid-season, or whatever it is makes you happiest. Good will to all men, women and all points in-between, even the person who came up with Directive 5. Good night, and may your god go with you.
-
Sansonetti works very well on Gorizia. I also have RPF rather than CE - you need the early warning with this ship.
-
I wondered this myself. Overall I think Zara is better, but Gorizia is excellent at close ranges against DDs and CAs, and good at range against BBs (you can do surprising amounts of damage). She struggles a bit at mid ranges and that's where you use smoke - either to run or to get to an aggressive position (preferably island cover).

What to do with the Mighty Jingles commander (poll)
invicta2012 replied to Utlieov's topic in General Discussion
Presumably there is no way to access the in-game audio files? Five minutes with Audacity and the Normalisation filter would fix it.... -
The rental of Mikasa they gave away reminded me of just how fun that ship is. Pre-dreadnoughts would definitely be fun (and yes, I know about the issues with mixed batteries, but who cares? These ships are stylish).

This Years Christmas Presents are a Ripoff ?
invicta2012 replied to ColorsOfRainbows's topic in General Discussion
Three ships dropped from containers so far: Kaga, Lo Yang, WV 1941. And no I don't have all the Tier Vs (no Hill, Siroco, Yahagi, either of the Marbleheads, Texas). I'm also miffed I haven't had Dreadnought yet..... :) -
SAP fake tales about ricochet angles
invicta2012 replied to OOAndreasOO's topic in General Discussion
Being a complete doofus who can't aim, I was quite surprised to find myself getting 10k salvos off the superstructure of Tirpitz, Iowa and Sinop with my Gorizia, firing SAP. And citadels from a Ryujio and Lexington, at range, using AP. These Italian cruisers do pack quite a wallop, it's just about playing them a little differently. (You know, if it turns out you can get a PR by only completing three directives and that these Italian cruisers are quite powerful if you aim differently... we are going to have to do so much apologising to WG staff in the New Year..... ) -
And out of today's 70p Santa crate...

Commonwealth Destroyers, Pan-American Destroyers and Cruisers, IJN Hybrid Cruisers, German and French CVs, a second line of German DDs / French DDs/ Italian DDs / Soviet CAs / British BBs / USN BBs / Soviet BBs / RN CVs / USN CVs / IJN CVs and loads, and loads, and loads of Premium ships.

Peurto Rico - who is actually grinding her
invicta2012 replied to pzkpfwv1d's topic in General Discussion
Oh yes. Low Tier DDs are even better, as you need more torp hits to sink ships and all the BBs are so slow they barely make it out of spawn rather then charging in against everything as they do higher up. You can get that "120 torp hits" thing quite quickly with an Icarus, without much of an interruption. Higher Tiers are reserved for Jean Bart and collecting as many secondary hits as possible (current record is 544 in a game, I'm sure I can do better before Directive 3 is done). -
Possible, but unlikely given post WW2 US policy (which was largely about demitarisation). Still, Its one ship...

Well, Fiji fires 12 shells every 8 seconds, as opposed to Yorck's 8 shells every 12 seconds. However Yorck - since they fixed its AP - is more than capable of whacking a Fiji into oblivion. That's how it goes between Light and Heavy Cruisers (or at least, how it's supposed to go) and it is balanced. But Yorck feels tougher to play because, if you're facing a Fiji, the opponents rate of fire has a psychologically intimidating effect on you. You see your HP going down, the constant stream of shells, you may react badly and show too much side, or fire your guns too early.... but if he gives you an opportunity you can whack him back, hard. The Italian cruisers are very good at this sort of CA counter-punching style.

The Dock Yard : The Future : The Game 2020
invicta2012 replied to Rhineheart_Thor's topic in General Discussion
I like the idea of purchasing Blueprints - at any Tier - or earning Tier X ones through the RB and then dedicating effort towards the ship build. That's a more long-term activity, and if it's done separately to any of the other currencies/resources (so people with large piles of Free XP, Coal, etc can't immediately get the reward) then it would add some longevity. -
It's nonsense. It would have made more sense for it to be a Soviet one, given that the Soviets were more than happy to pass over Sverdlov and Gnevny class ships to Indonesia. The idea of the Imperial Japanese Navy giving any other Asian nation a battleship is beyond crazy.
-
Ah, well, if that's the case you should send the replay to Technical Support. That's clearly a bug we would all be happy to see fixed.
-
Many, many battleships actually had torpedoes. WG don't add the ones which fired at fixed angles, just the ones which can be trained to different firing angles.
-
Torpedoes aren't always visible after launch. They only appear to you when they enter detection range - which can be less than 1k, depending on the nation of the ship that fired them . That ship could be 15k or more away by then, laughing to itself.
-
Er, you know that there are several battleships which do have torpedoes in WoWs? Mutsu (I think), Gneisenau, Scharnhorst, Tirpitz?
-
It was. By firing, you would have given your position away, so negating your reason for being angry with teammates.

Damage dealing in battleships
invicta2012 replied to HassenderZerhacker's topic in General Discussion
That is to do with the angle at which the shell is hitting the red ship. There are certain engagement ranges when AP shells will encounter both the belt and the deck armor at fairly large angles, and will have a high probability of either non-penetration or ricochets. The distance at which both plunging fire and direct enemy fire is less effective is called the immunity zone (IZ). Despite the absolutist nature of its name, the immunity zone concept does not imply any sort of invulnerability. A ship fighting within its IZ will still probably suffer when hit, but it is theoretically proof against singularly catastrophic hits to the citadel. (Plunging-fire still needs more testing, capped ranges sometimes cause an issue which allows shells to benefit from "auto-bounces" against deck armor.) https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Gunnery_%26_Armor_Penetration -
How far "Average Joe" player can go with the "Puerto Rico" building stages without using Doubloon accelerators at all?
invicta2012 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
It is quite frustrating, but that's how it goes in Co-op. The initial points value given to the red team isn't high and won't withstand them losing three BBS in quick succession. -
Thanks. I'm sure this is how WG have designed it - as a sink for pretty rare/Premium camos and resources. I'm glad you're making progress, but it would be good to say exactly what you'd had to use to get there.
-
Are you going to grind the Puerto Rico?
invicta2012 replied to Miscommunication_dept's topic in General Discussion
It looks like no-one actually understood how the event worked, certainly not the poor old Community Managers. But still, getting through a directive in 24 hours is quite a thing to do.
