Thunderer - The Best Tier X Battleship?
invicta2012 replied to anonym_OQ8SFxmDxroh's topic in General Discussion
Captain skills, someone... But you've shown what Yamato needs to feel up-to-date. Particularly diligent damage control. All she needs is to be able to put out fires significantly faster than her competitors (most of whom have better heals) and suddenly all those HE slinging dwarves might start to feel worried about her. -

Bring back Musashi. She still punches above her weight for a Tier IX. -

I think that's to stop it killing the gun crew at the far end of the Quarterdeck. -
I wonder what he would like?

What's wrong with that?

Anyone else disappointed by the Swedi... Pan-EU DD line
invicta2012 replied to MutsuAraAra's topic in General Discussion
Well, yes: for all the talk about other lines being "clones" and therefore being undesirable, that does rather gloss over the fact that DD lines are slightly repetitive... four Gnevnys, three V and W class, two J/K/N Class, two Bensons, Fletchers, Farraguts, Tribals, Le Fantasques, Shiratsuyu's and room for more. The question is whether you can make them into a relatively consistent line. That's why we have the Swedish ones first. A "Southern Europe" line will emerge, I'm sure, when WG works how what to do with it... -

I think I do in the sense that some rather historic ships haven't made it into the game (Sleipner, Stord, Isaac Sweers), but there is always room for them (if WG discovers the appetite for non-gimmick based Premiums). But the Swedish line looks fun.... -
That's what everyone is asking for. They want these ships not to be in "beginner" tier.

Why do I get camos for ships I don't have?

The Lunar New Year Collection is for Pan-Asian enthusiasts. So I guess they're hoping you might be happy with that? -
Yes, er... right.

I would rather see them have a go at making a specialised Pre-Dreadnought/WW1 mode as as event rather than making space battles, with an eye to making an era-based game mode, outside of the Tier system - almost a separate game. WG talks about running out of ships, they want to put subs in a game which is already having problems with CVs.... it's all getting a bit too much for one linear progression.
-
You need to upgrade the ship! B Hull Devonshire's rudder is 3 seconds faster than A hull. Her gun range goes out 14k + spotter. And those torps are just fine... don't be too keen to use them.
-
He means that these are Tech Tree ships which have temporarily been made Premium. So unlike normal Prems they have A and B hulls and modules which you must equip in order to get the fully upgraded boat. Here's my Albemarle by way of example: When I got her, she had the A hull and stock Range module - so I was down around 10% on health and gun range. Check you've got the B hull and upgrades equipped, it will make a difference.

Because it extends the core gameplay and would be more entertaining than "space battles". There is a certain type of player who wants to be good at a particular game and they will try to be good at any mode the developer implements, even if it is a drift away from what the game is supposed to be. They might enjoy these Event modes like the Savage Battles and Halloween modes but I can't say I do. A credible WW1 game mode, outside of the Tier system, would be of more interest to me than these event modes or something like the Research Bureau and regrinding ship lines. That's more a matter of WG not wanting to build ships with mixed main batteries as opposed not being able to implement it properly.

Hmm. 10k from a WV41 in a Tier VI cruiser. Not a wise move. Overmatch city.

The animated characters are what they are, I can ignore it. And I don't have any problem with some of the stuff WG does which might be considered dubious from an NA game studio - the "Pin Up" video was well made and kitschy funny rather than exploitative. But cos play can often make things which are OK-ish in animation be World of Wrong in reality :)
-
Agreed. Free Premium Kongo and Myoko. Nothing much to complain about here (other than Dasha's attempts to imitate the Anime Captains in the launch video. I really wish I could unsee that).

Well, I'm still waiting to see one! But based on the actual design, Surrey was meant to be slower than the original County class, with speed traded for a bit more armour (although still not much). Does she have the same heal as the VIII? That can help you out a great deal with citadel damage, without that she'd be a proper glass cannon.
-
Not many people have, only seeing 7k games in Surrey and I've not seen many about at all. I suspect she is the new "old Pensacola" - a bit of a glass cannon.

Operation Killer Whale - a Tactical Challenge for the Tactically Challenged?
invicta2012 replied to Procrastes's topic in General Discussion
Where's the fun in that, though? If I was looking to farm Tier VI or some directive I suppose it might be worthwhile, but I actually quite like the random aspects of Ops. They have some of the frustrations of a random match but enough of a possiblity of hauling it all back even if your fellow players are numpties. -
There's no reason why they couldn't do it. Most of the ships as lower Tiers have been massively handicapped to make them fit the Tier structure. If you gave a ship like the Weymouth (a fairly hopeless Tier II) a decent loadout of consumables, gun range and armour she could easily be as good as Emerald or Hawkins - and she could do all the things her sister ships did at Jutland (spotting, shadowing, skirmishing). What I do think would be needed would be adjustments to Battleship gunnery - we know that the hit rate for WW1 BBs was around 2%, which is unacceptable for an arcade game. The double ping weapon lock mechanic they are using for subs looks interesting in that respect; perhaps BB gunnery for that period could be about locking a zone into which shells might fall?

Is Salem worth the coal, if the point is to test out higher tier gameplay?
-
An original QE class, without the rebuild for aircraft handling, is definitely on my wishlist.

Boise. Wichita is a great ship but she doesn't play like a Baltimore, so not really representative of the high tier playstyle. Boise is more forgiving, with that heal, so you can get away with a little more while learning what does and doesn't work.
