I Currently Have 666 Royal Tokens...
invicta2012 replied to Sir_Sinksalot's topic in General Discussion
London has been balanced with short gun range and mediocre detection - her range is 13.4km, her smoke detection is 6.8km. Leander, by way of comparison, is 13.2/4.6, Perth 12.8/4.5 (but that goes up to 15.3km with spotter up) and Huang He 13.2/4.2. Don't rely on London's smoke in ops or co-op, it will not go well against onrushing ships, and even in randoms you want to be using it as an extra source of cover, rather than some miracle safety net. -
This is the other reason I don't play this line. Too many Z's and I forget which is which. Apart from the one whose name starts with T. (I am also going by the ones I have, which are the Premium ones and the Tier VIII. And there 's no reason to play any of them apart from T61 when my LoYang does the whole hydro thing better).

Interesting thoughts... For me the problem with the high tier KM DDs is that their gimmick (cruiser guns, big HP pool) has been superseded by all those dakka boats released since. British, French, Japanese, Pan Euro DDs will just chew through your HP while you're waiting for your big guns to reload. Not sure about taking radar over smoke on PA DDs. They don't strike me as open water gunboats and the radar range is so short it's no real help.
-
I did too, but the German DD line goes all odd after that. The two premiums are good but I got to the Tier VIII and found it much less fun than any other DD at the Tier.

PA DDs or PA cruisers? The PA DDs are a very mixed line. Gadjah Mada is a very good gunboat but I'm not sure I prefer it to Jervis. Hseinyang is a great little ship, she's a C hull American DD (extra AA) with hard punching DWTorps. Lo Yang has her long range hydro / smoke party trick. Chung Mu is OK but feels like a downgrade - I get the feeling different rules apply to Tier IX and X DDs and I haven't got them figured out yet. Yue Yang got hit so hard with the nerf bat it's gone up into space like Wylie E Coyote standing on an ACME super trampoline and I doubt it will ever come back.

Problem with japanese Premium BBs
invicta2012 replied to Furius_Marius's topic in General Discussion
Both Furutaka and Emerald were poor ships on launch. Emerald especially had qualities which made her a disaster, almost unplayable in the hands of a new or weak player, and her stats will probably never recover, even though she has been substantially buffed and is now really quite good. I would rather look at stats for the last six months or so for both ships, as I suspect we would see a huge improvement.- 40 replies

Problem with japanese Premium BBs
invicta2012 replied to Furius_Marius's topic in General Discussion
That's because it used to be terrible. The combination of bad ship and bad players is not good for stats - I played it in the early days when I had no clue about anything, with appalling results. It's been buffed since though, and is actually quite good - I've been playing a stock A hull , just to see if there's a ship I that's worse than Hawkins or Genova , and it's quite capable. I'd quite like a premium Kako (Furutaka's sister) with the six single eight inch guns and the original heavy torpedo loadout. But I think that might be a bit niche. Ship collectors would disagree, and obvs. there's good economic reasons for owning premiums. If you're a fan of IJN ships you might feel a little let down, with what's in the shop.- 40 replies

Problem with japanese Premium BBs
invicta2012 replied to Furius_Marius's topic in General Discussion
Yahagi is actually a very good little cruiser, but people were expecting something OP and then the hype died when they saw her torpedo firing angles. It is also in competition with Furutaka, which is a very strong all-round Tier V. This is generally the problem with IJN ships - the good ones are all in the Tech Tree line.- 40 replies

That's nice. They've also said, though, that it's very difficult to balance scenarios and operations over Tier VIII, so that rather limits their choices for these types of gameplay. What they also need to realise is that once a game is established, something strange happens - players want to play within the game world and mechanics they understand, and enjoy, rather than within the parameters that the designers intended. So "designed around progressing to higher Tiers" may not be something that players do if they get more enjoyment or value elsewhere at Tier V than Tier X.

Problem with japanese Premium BBs
invicta2012 replied to Furius_Marius's topic in General Discussion
There's a difference between "works well" and "unexciting", I suppose. The IJN has a problem in the sense that all the famous ships - Yamato, Musashi, Kirishima, Hiei, etc - have been done and none of the available names have much of a draw (although they might work from a gameplay perspective). Maybe then need pink camos and anime captains to be popular?- 40 replies

Cunningham Tokens progression so far?
invicta2012 replied to OldschoolGaming_YouTube's topic in General Discussion
594. Not entirely sure what they will get me, though. Looks as if they've made Cunningham a CV main, which is odd, considering he was actually a DD and BB main with no time for HE spamming cruisers or floaty carriers. -

Good to know. I can see an LWM review for Kii which says "gudbote". I have a recommendation for Mutsu in Tier VI Ops. But I don't see these ships in game. They must lack something....- 40 replies

Problem with japanese Premium BBs
invicta2012 replied to Furius_Marius's topic in General Discussion
I agree (I have one, it is very the fun), but Mutsu? Ashitaka? Kii? No-one seems keen. I know there are still some IJN BB possibilities out there... the Ise Class (rebuilt with lots of planes for eternal long-range spotting), or perhaps one of Kii's sisters - a more tanky Omi?- 40 replies

invicta2012 replied to Furius_Marius's topic in General Discussion
Nothing wrong with Musashi. Really. Imagine seeing that in a Tier VII cruiser. But generally... yes. I am looking at the Premium shop with doubloons and coal in pocket thinking... Thunderer? Georgia? Massachusetts? Tirpitz? Lenin? There's nothing IJN in the "must have" category.- 40 replies

IFHE/ plating changes coming up. What are you doing with your light cruisers?
invicta2012 replied to Miscommunication_dept's topic in General Discussion
I think I'm usually pretty positive about things (I'm the bloke who likes Genova, ffs) but this is just a bit much. It's another major change that will affect enjoyment of ships I bought (Aigle, Huang He, Perth, Nuevo De Julio, Scharnhorst) and ships I spent plenty of time playing to get (Jean Bart) and require a huge amount of relearning armour models and pen thresholds. None of which is particularly fun, in a game which rapidly running out of that quality. -
You'll still have their camos in your inventory. That's how I remember them.
-
Aigle or Guepard are my favourite gunboat DDs at Tier VI. You would probably find their cruiser/DD hybrid style fun.
-
I did suggest that the Dunkirk mission be brought back, configured so that players could use ships that were actually involved in Dynamo (Wakeful, Icarus, Gallant, Bourrasque, Siroco, Jaguar, amongst others) with rewards increased for playing the "weaker" ships. Not hard to balance that mission for low Tier destroyers, tbh.

invicta2012 replied to Miscommunication_dept's topic in General Discussion
I will probably find another game to play. Having recently given up an MMO I've played for years because the developers keep fiddling with stats and breaking multiple characters, I can't be bothered with this type of nonsense any more. Major change for the sake of it is never good. The new armor model and IFHE changes look arbitrary and confusing. I know what they're trying to achieve but overall it looks as if they haven't done so but are pressing on anyway. That's happening too often. -
Is there a link to see the european line of DDs?

Defense of Naval Station Newport
invicta2012 replied to Tordenskjold23's topic in General Discussion
Well, a first win of the week tonight. The absence of the weekend crowd helped. Took Izmail out for a spin (I like that ship in OPs, Russian Bias means it has lots of guns and doesn't melt under HE spam - well designed, comrade). But what made the difference was saving our old pal Romeo - turns out having a Tier VIII Bot cruiser on your team provides much useful dakka. Is that the devs' intention, do you think - making it important to complete that part of the mission? Not entirely convinced if so.... -
Angled Albemarle receives frontal annihilation by Sinop (video included)
invicta2012 replied to Grimmblut's topic in General Discussion
Because it's not the Tier of the ship, it's the calibre of the gun. You could have the same thing happen with a West Virginia '41 - that's a Tier VI, but it also has 406mm guns. That will straight out overmatch the 25mm armour in the nose and athwartship on the Albemarle, or most other cruisers. That'll be a Yamato you're in then, will it? -
Anyone else really feeling the power creep these days?
invicta2012 replied to Thracen's topic in General Discussion
However it seems that the Shimakaze is still very popular at Tier X.....
