Add new aircraft carrier in technological tree

A whole line of CVs with ludicrous secondaries. Why not skip the whole aeroplane thing and give them torpedo launchers, too? We know how much German BB players love to disregard their main batteries and get into torp range, let the CVs have the fun, too!
  2. The cause of the sinking of those ships was, largely, a lack of air cover. Once BBs were deployed with carriers with CAP, screening AA destroyers and cruisers they were, pretty much, safe (Number of US Battleships sunk after Pearl Harbor? None). But that type of fleet arrangement is incompatible with WoWs. I won't resurrect my old argument about making support carriers which specialise in air defence but, y'know: that an an increase in strike carrier vulnerability would bring balance to the force, as it were. But WG doesn't care about balance, really, as long as player numbers go up and they can flog premium ships.
  3. That's a given. :) The point I am trying to make - and I have no idea why I am explaining as you know this - is that the battles this game most resembles are the rather confused melees of the Guadacanal naval campaign. No carriers.
  4. Really? Not sure about that. Perhaps WG should have a poll. Did you come here to play...? a) Battle of the North Cape b) Battle of Savo Island c) Battle of Midway

    That critical moment...

Go and play something else for a while. What I find is that a break from a game helps because there are more things to do when you come back: there will be new lines to grind, new mechanics to get to grips with, maybe some new modes and content. Overall you should be enjoying your game time, not doing things because the game is desperately pleading for your attention (and your cash). The thing I find about the WG titles is that they have a nice mix of arcade-y game play, depths of mechanics and a realistic setting. I can't be doing with Orcs, Space Marines or dodgy Anime at my time of life, I really can't, so they have a considerable appeal it's difficult to find elsewhere.

    Favorite Nation Poll

It's a split vote for me between the Royal Navy and the Marine Nationale. Royal Navy destroyers are my favourite ships in the game (a combination of eminent history and being brilliantly fun), I like the cruisers and BBs.... but all the lines have a tendency to go a bit loopy above Tier VIII. The French ships are brilliantly distinctive, unlike anything else in the game. Could play them forever.

    One month premium, a resumee

Starting to play Tier V and finding your win rate plummeting is pretty commonplace. New captains are placed in a protected player pool until they hit level 10 (the level you reached when you obtained access to the Armory), after that you are in with everyone else. Playing Tier V will also mean you face opponents with ships up to Tier VII, and those are powerful ships which can hold their own against Tier IX opponents! So Tier V can be a rough place to be - and that's before we talk about CVs (let's not). But by the look of your statistics you're not having too much trouble, and if you bear with it you should find things improving. Premium Ships: there are very few completely OP ships floating round in the game. Unfortunately there are a fair few of them in your MM spread. Hosho (although it's not a Prem), the Kamikaze/Kami R/Fujin Destroyers and Guilio Cesare are all best treated with respect. Most Premium ships do a specific thing well - it may be certain weapons, or consumables (Atlanta has all the guns, Indianapolis has radar) and are balanced out by their faults (being squishy, in the case of those two). The OP ships are not at all balanced because they have few obvious weaknesses and are just better. But you can work on defeating them, and you should - because the main skill you'll need to pick up to progress is knowledge of other ships, what they do, how they're armoured, whether they can dump 100 torpedoes in the water if you get too close, and the strategies you need to defeat them.

    DD rework thread

Destroyer torpedoes should do more damage per hit and therefore be more likely to cause flooding than carrier borne ones. (The warhead of an IJN Aerial torpedo was around 75% of the size of a standard Type 93). Carrier borne torps should have a better chance of inflicting temporary damage on ship modules - this is less of a problem for Destroyers as they generally equip the LS captain skill; BBs generally look more towards fire prevention. As the Bismarck found out, a single carrier hit to a significant system can be a real problem. Carrier borne torpedo planes should be part of larger wings with more widely spaced combs in order to be more effective against larger ships and more easily dodged by small ships such as destroyers. Rocket plane dispersion should be significantly widened at all tiers. Allow Destroyers to switch between torpedo load outs in game, not just in the module screen, and provide a wider range of options to the DD player. These were weapons which could be adjusted for speed and range in battle, it should be possible in game. Increase the duration of the "single ship spotting" effect of radar by 50%.

Why the RNG on torpedo spreads?

It's probably because someone at WG doesn't like destroyers.

British Premiums Reviewed - the bias is real

Still waiting for it to reach the size of the USN Premium Fleet (as it should) with Premium DDs between Tier V and IX, and Cruisers from VII-X.

    OPERATION Killer Whale

Devonshire and London do well in Killer Whale. They have all the whack of a Pensacola without the tendency to explode. I've been back playing this and it's going much better than New Newport did. This is a reliable victory, three stars is no stress, five seems quite possible.

Never Mind. Turns Out I Was Just Drunk ;)

You shouldn't get charged for swapping hulls. Is it possible you had sold the A hull option from Ryujio?

British Premiums Reviewed - the bias is real

To be fair to citizens of Russia, they seem to have commemorated the efforts of the Arctic convoys a lot better than the British ever did. Another reason for Sheffield's involvement in the game...

    Cheshire good bad or indifferent?

Not sure that's how it goes. You've had fair warning of how these ships work...
  15. invicta2012

    Cheshire good bad or indifferent?

It's quite a strong Tier for cruisers. So for Albemarle to be doing well is a sign it's quite well balanced (which it is, tbh).
  16. invicta2012

    Cheshire good bad or indifferent?

Cheshire's a premium, though. Do you think it will do better than it's comparators, Wichita, Irian, Atago, Wukong, Eugen? I think it will... (and I think Wichita is a very fine ship....)
  17. invicta2012

    Cheshire good bad or indifferent?

We're not. The ship has nearly 100,000 games logged. That's a pretty decent sample size. (Don't look at Cheshire's stats, btw. They are.... promising).
  18. invicta2012

    Cheshire good bad or indifferent?

Cheshire's MM is better, though. And that's fair enough for a Premium, you're getting a taster of Tier IX gameplay in a more accommodating tier. Grit your teeth, drop your heal, get on with it. I know the popular line is "Albemarle is rubbish" but the stats don't seem to show that. Looking at WOWS numbers I can see it with the second highest WR, second highest average Damage, second highest average Exp, third highest K/D ratio of all Tier VIII cruisers - much better than Wichita, Wukong, Montpelier, Irian, Kutuzov...
  19. invicta2012

    Cheshire good bad or indifferent?

Nah. That's pen damage plus fire damage. Perhaps you haven't been keeping up. From what I can see Cheshire can pen the deck of a Yamato without needing IFHE... it's only the glorious Soviet fake boats and their disregard for displacement and the problems of armoured decks which are immune. That's quite potent at Tier VIII - if you're top tier then you have BB HE pen, on a cruiser with a super heal.
  20. invicta2012

    Cheshire good bad or indifferent?

Possibly because, post IFHE rework, the combination of being able to pen the deck of most BBs while retaining your fire chance might be quite strong?

British Premiums Reviewed - the bias is real

And to follow: HMS Tiger Most new modern and handsome battlecruiser in the fleet. Therefore it had to be given a crew of convicts and ne'er do wells and be made part of the battlecruiser squadron commanded by a buffoon who thought he was Nelson. Couldn't hit a cow's backside with a banjo. Nearly made it to the Second World War before the Admiralty decided "LOL, Nope". Cannot be in World of Warships due to a) not being German and b) not being pink and captained by a screaming Japanese schoolgirl. HMS Hardy H Class flotilla leader. Bravely sailed up the fjords of Norway to give the Boche a bloody nose before running into the Boche's mates on the way out and getting blown to smithereens. Tea and (posthumous) medals all round. The Admiralty - again - decided the correct response to this was "LOL, Nope" and sailed the Warspite back up the fjord to Sort It Out in a Jason Statham sort of way. Cannot be in World of Warships because: Gallant's already in Tier VI and you can't have more than one RN Premium DD. HMS Sheffield Town class cruiser with a massively distinguished wartime career. First radar equipped cruiser in the Royal Navy. Shadowed the Bismarck. Engaged the Hipper. Pursued the Scharnhorst at the Battle of the North Cape. Invented torpedobeats when the Ark Royal's planes mistook it for a large and particularly German battleship and dropped a dozen torpedoes on it. Admiralty cable to commander of Ark's air wing: "LOL, Nope". Cannot be in World of Warships because: famous and distinguished and real. HMS Cavalier Not particularly distinguished C-class destroyer, now an excellent museum ship. Ideal Tier VII RN DD Premium. Cannot be in World of Warships because WG: "LOL, Nope".

    Cheshire good bad or indifferent?

Graf Spee's HE penetration is absurd (but balanced by her reload). Discounting Spee, Cheshire is up there with Yorck as having the best HE penetration of any regular heavy cruiser. It's just as good as the Italian SAP, albeit more reliable. I guess the anti-hype about Albemarle has kicked in.....
  23. invicta2012

    Cheshire good bad or indifferent?

It has the 1/4 HE pen on the 9.2 inch guns, same as the Tier IX and X. Should be quite potent.
  24. invicta2012

    Cheshire good bad or indifferent?

Cheshire Cat. It's a camo that makes the ship disappear. In the midst of what we were trying to say In the midst of our laughter and glee We will softly and silently vanish away....

    Which Gunboat to get

Haida is very strong against other DDs but a very good gunboat all round : for reasons of balans her very standard RN 4.7 inch guns have HE shells which hit for 200 more damage each than Jervis or Gadja Madah. The other Tribal, Cossack, is also very good.
