Myogi? Tier V? Eek. Move Kongo over to the IJN BC tree at Tier V. Tier VI is the same class of ship but upgunned to (ahistorical but possible) 15 inch guns (like KGV/ Monarch). Tier VII is Amagi class with same 15 inch guns as Tier VI (rather like QE/Hood). Amagi goes to Tier VIII BC, Tosa goes in to BB line as replacement.

I saw the Flamu video. Classic "what's that ship?" gameplay by the red team. He gets lots of juicy broadsides to fire at, is ignored for the first five minutes, and then those BBs mither about firing at the Lyon in C rather than charging his smoke. What are they worried about? Doesn't Duke of York have hydro, ffs? Now that people know about the RN CAs and their tendency to take heavy hits they are much less cautious.

Buy Jean Bart or other coal ships: (Just got Bourgogne)
invicta2012 replied to GulvkluderGuld's topic in General Discussion
I have JB for silly secondary missions and credit farming. JB with BFT and AFT will do a daft amount of secondary hits in a game and even a co-op derp festival can make upwards of 250,000 credits per game. It's why I don't own Georgia (no need, also not French so not cool). -
It's the worst line WG have released since the last one!

I'm not that enamoured of it. Played a couple of games of Raptor Rescue and wished I'd brought something else. Huang He, maybe? Fewer guns but more accurate, better smoke.... I think overall there are many better cruisers at Tier VI and it's probably the joint-worst British designed cruiser in the game (hello Neptune). Although I haven't got to Surrey yet... I'm expecting that to fix the range issues with its spotter plane, otherwise it could be a bit painful.

Yamato does not belong at Tier IX. It may need some small buffs (a revision to the armor model which presents an obvious and catastrophic weakness) but it's fine. Musashi is way overpowered for Tier IX, and Yamato is better. Well, yes. Even if you include the ARP ships the overall damage is low. And the reason for low damage in a decent ship is that new or poor players are too scared to use it as anything other than a long range sniper. Where players are encouraged to get in range, tank damage and make full use of many guns, they do well - the stats on Viribus Unitis, initially regarded as utter dreck, show that, because if she has one effective strategy, it's to get in close with her good concealment and blap the heck out of things with 12 guns. I think Yamashiro in WW1 guise - lots of guns, middling speed and armour - would be a better Tier V, or perhaps an Ise (with their shorter gun range). The usual balancing rules would apply - poor torpedo protection, shotgun dispersion - but it would make the line more consistent.

DPM difference between Fiji and Edinburgh
invicta2012 replied to SolanumTuberosumRex's topic in General Discussion
They're the same guns. :) Both ships were built at the same time (Edinburgh is about 10 months older). -
The current grinds are loaded to encourage people to buy the event ship up front (Genova, Gorizia, London) and then get the value back at the end of the campaign. I'm OK with that as I'm happy to spend the money (I appreciate others aren't) and I think it makes me more likely to participate rather than a long grind for a free low tier ship (as with Hill and Siroco, neither of which were much of an incentive). Early access I think is a bit strange and I'm not sure why people get so hung up on it. It's a nice booster to progress if you do get lucky, but it's not a must-have. And in respect of Albemarle counting towards event tokens.... I guess that was just to allow people to make progress without a premium ship.

Play the Budyonny, then. As I mentioned, the point here is that WG aren't providing long-range HE spamming cruisers for every tier and nation. The London's strength is using its HE and smoke to pick at enemies, and wear them down, then it can close the range when appropriate and out gun them. The whole point of the RN CA line is to outlast equivalent cruisers and to be able to make decisive moves when needed. It's not a DOT ship.

ST, French tier VIII battleship Champagne and American tier X aircraft carrier F.D.Roosevelt
invicta2012 replied to _Weikath_'s topic in Development Blog
I am a fan of French BBs but I don't see what that one is bringing to the table. Six heavy guns might be acceptable if they were all forward with a fast reload but I don't think having them in A-Y configuration will work too well. Unless she's got JB secondaries, AA, speed and rudder this might be a bit of a lame duck. Gascogne - which is similar - doesn't excel, does it? -
I got an Albemarle. Of course everyone thinks that's rubbish, so perhaps it still counts as nothing (NB: irony). I got a 10pt captain and a Tier VI Premium Cruiser for free. Does that still count as nothing? (NB: rhetorical question).

They can do fine, if they have enough Oomph in their guns to dominate when the range is shorter. Devonshire certainly does. London, I think, is best thought of as a scaled up Exeter (she shares many of her stats) and played accordingly. You want to try and keep your powder dry early on and wait until later in the game when the ranges have shortened - then you can be a surprisingly strong asset around caps and in brawls.
-
You'll be wanting an Algerie, then. I think the point here is that there are plenty of long range HE spammers available if you want them.... WG probably don't want to keep pumping out lines which pretty much do the same thing.

Andrew Cunningham - best use?
invicta2012 replied to HassenderZerhacker's topic in General Discussion
CV first, then cruisers, then DDs. I think he might be quite good on an Emerald, when you get that - lots of torpedoes to trigger the flooding perk, and she could use the extra speed and consumable boost. And having a 10pt skipper ready to go with CE will make playing her a heck of a lot easier - that's not a ship you want to be using as a captain trainer. -
Now on ST: AP Rockets for CVs...because reasons.
invicta2012 replied to Jethro_Grey's topic in General Discussion
It won't be good for any of them. Not even Hipper, with its turtleback, will be able to put up much resistance - 27mm deck, 30mm citadel roof - and I think that turtleback will actually present an easier, flatter target for AP rockets fired from elevated positions at close range. BBs will be safer from citadels because of their upper belts but that will act as a shell trap for anything that goes through the deck. It's one of those situations where the potential threat isn't covered by ship design. The Fritz X and Henschel guided bombs used in WW2 were absolutely devastating for just that reason - no ship had, or likely could, be built to withstand that type of damage.- 253 replies

invicta2012 replied to Jethro_Grey's topic in General Discussion
So these are more about enabling superstructure penetration on BBs? That's going to need a very short fuse time on the AP rockets. And we know who actually gets punished with short fuse times....- 253 replies

Visby's faster. The Kamikaze sisters really don't like it when ships can chase them down, their guns have problems tracking when they dodge and they lose further speed turning to fire torpedoes. Podvoisky causes them real grief, Visby could certainly do the same.
-
Indeed, but you'll get plenty mileage from the skill in a Vasteras. ...75 off a reload is quite a chunk of change... from 8x6x1600 (76,800 DPM) to 8.88x6x1600 (85,248) which takes you up to the DPM of a Tier VI competitor like Icarus, with all your advantages in speed and torpedoes.
-
Hmm. With BFT and AR running (given that these ships don't have smoke) their reload will be acceptable. They've got great speed, rudder shift, fast torps with great range and reload time, AA worth mentioning. Compare the Visby to an Acasta and it has still got a heck of a lot going for it. Hell, Vasteras would be a problem for Jervis and Gadjah Mada with her original stats.

Stand by for new Bulgarian destroyer Rakia, which it's impossible to steer in a straight line. -

By that logic, the Enterprise is slightly taken, too. Although I wouldn't mind NCC1701 in game.... -
Because you don't give anything AP ammunition if you don't intend it to tickle people's citadels. And the ships that CVs go after with these rockets will most likely be cruisers using islands as defence, unable to manoeuvre or dodge. Now you can say "well, we've solved the radar-cruiser-behind-an-island issue" but really all they've done is replaced a difficult-to-counter tactic with one that can hardly be countered at all.

Oh, that's disappointing. Six sixteen inch guns at Tier VIII? They'll have to be very good sixteen inch guns. Don't like the name, either. I know it is a region of France but Aquitaine or Charante would be better (Bordeaux and La Rochelle have better claims...) -
Well, a French cruiser with what appears to be an entire Jean Bart's worth of AA has just been announced, so perhaps it's connected. I take the point about constructive feedback, so I'll try and leave some. I can't imagine any point of the game at which this is going to be fun to play against. Low tier cruisers have almost no defence at all against well directed AP shells of any calibre. Mid tier ones can be Cit pen'd with DD calibre AP quite readily. Cruiser defence is speed, positioning and using natural cover. CVs do not allow for any of those strategies. It's all very well to think you've made a counter to island hugging cruisers but this will be too much. We've already been around this with DD / CV interaction, we know how it works and it's no fun. Don't repeat your mistakes, please.
