ST - German aircraft carriers, Z-35

And I'm interested to see what they do with it, considering that the other DDs from this line are not very popular. It looks underwhelming at Tier IX with those SP main guns in that awkward 2/3 arrangement, especially with the competition it will face. I'd rather have had the 1945 Zerstorer design to give the super sized French and Italian DDs a run for their money (it was planned to have 4 x 2 main guns) and perhaps use the other designs for an alt DD line?

    German CVs announced!

They're trying to release them before the end of humanity as we know it, I guess. Neither do I. Unfortunately releasing a line of CVs for every nation going is possibly the one thing WG hasn't got around to yet. So be prepared for more of this sort of thing.

    German CVs announced!

Some early gameplay footage here. Looks a bit slow.

    Quite remarkable imcompetence

Good luck with that. There is far too much cash in selling premium ships and levelling aids to people who won't know what to do with the ship when they get it. Even playing Co-op has become a potato field; Scharnhorsts behind islands, Vladivostocks so far back they might as well be in Vladivostock, Tier X Rentals with players who are still at the "what does this button do???" phase... it has become so absurd it's funny. You should just play Tier III and have done with it, everyone's in the same boat down there* (*Valkyrie, usually).

    Feedback rental bundles

You did get a 6 point skipper as part of the transaction. Which I suppose is worth 75p in the scheme of things....

    Some codes

The codes give you containers. The containers give you collection items - and in this collection, duplicates can be exchanged 1:1 for collection items, so it's easy to complete and get Cap. Which I have just done. After that the containers give you 15,000 credits as compensation for duplicates. It's all good, really.

    New Rent Bundles

I am looking at that, as the first one that popped up was Georgia. And, if Vanguard or Roma were to appear, I might try those too. Better spending a couple of quid on a test run than the best part of £40 on a ship from the shop.

    A Co-op only clan

I have one of those! Although that's because I'm the only person in it. :) Expect high quality play. (*irony*). There are other co-op only clans and some are much better than others. *much* better.

    New Rent Bundles

Why would they be offering rentals of ships you can't buy? It's a long way to Christmas... expect a flash sale of ships from the unobtanium flotilla. Any hoo. I've gone through the Credit rental ships from 1/14. I already had several of them, but it's been fun to work through the ones I wanted to test. And it's easy to get the credits back, even just nurdling around in co-op. What it's shown me is that there isn't much out there to buy (at least not in this bracket). Here are some quick snapshots: Ships I didn't already have: Alabama - Hmm. Another standard US battleship. At Tier VIII. Not sure this is worth £££. Lazo - Hmm x2. A squishy Russian cruiser. Good if you like long range HE spam and eating citadel hits. Lenin - Nelski. But much faster, and more manoeuvrable, with punchy guns. Good if you want a Russian Tier VIII premium BB. But why would you want a Tier VIII premium BB? Duke of York - quite fun. But KGV is also quite fun, and free. For the RN completist. Bayard - pick of the bunch. Don't see many of these, not sure why. French light cruiser with good guns and destroyer speed. Bit squishy. Probably just been nerfed a bit because everyone now has 1/5 HE pen, but still pretty decent. Abruzzi - Good when it's top tier or against +1 opposition, if you like Italian cruisers. Does not play well with Tier VIII and IX opposition due to IFHE changes. Probably third choice Tier VII Italian, below Zara and Gorizia. Ships I already have: Loyang - enjoyable PA DD with long range hydro (5.5k). Has proper torpedoes with none of that deep water nonsense. Yudachi - needs a lot of work to be fun. Speed flag, torpedo speed mod, torpedo acceleration, gives you a ship with 65 kt 12k torpedoes. Sucks when there's a CV in the game. Haida - pick of the bunch. Oh, Canada! Z-39 - it does some things well, but is clumsy and clunky and has all the guns at the wrong end. Was very popular in the Tier VII ranked - hydro and decent health pool, I suppose. Do you like chunky Germans? If so, this is for you. Graf Spee - it's a pocket battleship! Unfortunately that means it's not as good as a Battleship at Battleship things, or a cruiser at cruiser things. It's not bad. It's just not good. Mutsu - no-one expects the Spanish inquisition! Or a battleship with torpedoes. Unless it's a German battleship, in which case torpedoes are the least surprising thing about it. Mutsu has lots going for it - excellent range, good HP pool, decent secondaries, surprise torpedoes. But it's not very good at hitting things with its main guns. You may find this vexing. I do. Molotov - good guns. Unfortunately it explodes when visible to the enemy. Bought it. Sold it. Got it back in a Christmas container. *sigh*. I see some people do marvellous things in operations with it, your mileage may vary. Monaghan - I like this ship. No-one else does, but I do.

How to get more European tokens?

I got one decent drop - 150 from a Daily Shipment. The rest have all been 10s and 20s. I need 230 tokens to jump up to Skane - we'll see if it happens, but I'm expecting to burn about 450 tokens on credits, camo and premium time instead. And that's OK, Tier VI is easy to grind out in operations and the like, so no great loss.
  11. invicta2012

How to get more European tokens?

Directives and daily missions. You could get containers from Daily Shipments, but that's pretty much it. I am in the same boat - a bit short of the tokens needed for Vasteras, but I've realised it doesn't matter, I've got enough XP on Visby to be able to upgrade as soon as the line is released, so the Euro tokens are going on credits for this rental scheme WG has got going.

    Mainz and Odin....No thanks

Bit like Leander/Edinburgh, then. And Dallas/Cleveland. And Budyonny/Chapayev.
  13. Admiral Petrov. Veteran of 500 games in the Krasny Krym. Skills: PT, AR, BFT, DE, IFHE. 3 points still to be assigned...
  14. What the man said. The three coal ships I own are Musashi (big guns), Jean Bart (fun and versatile) and Smolensk (spam, spam, spam, spam) and these are fun to play in any game mode. They are also good for completing directives, and seem to be profitable (in terms of credits), so completely worth the currency. Thunderer is probably next, then Salem (unless I get interrupted by an interesting DD in the meantime).
  15. invicta2012

    Should i get Smolensk?

JB makes more credits than Smolensk, but it's not a silly OP boat. Pick which is most important.

WGC: Log in to Experience It All

I have no problems with WGC but it is important to let people specify the folder to which the game installs. Many people have relatively small but fast C drives for the OS and more space on old school hard drives.. Wows doesn't need to be on the fast drive, so don't install it there without giving people a choice. Thanks!

    Defense of Newport Station

That's my observation based on playing it quite a lot. The timings of the third wave changed at about 0.9.0 and the third wave spawns faster than it did. This catches people out, especially if they've moved up the map to try and provide crossfire. It has worked better, today: focusing one flank during the final wave definitely helps. But BBs are essential, and CVs a waste of space. (I only mention it because of a hilarious Aegis game I had last week. 3 x Aigle, 3 x Trento, Ark Royal. We flipping murdered 'em! Can't see it happening with Newport).
  18. invicta2012

    Defense of Newport Station

Nah. If that was the case we'd be seeing failures on "easy" scenarios like Aegis. This one has recently been made more difficult (wave timing changes, buffs to Izumo, which has gone from Captain Derp to a bit of a beast) and suffers from CV-itis (a lack of DPM when you need it whenever a CV is in the game). Not surprised people find it difficult. Today has been 2-1 to the players, but only because people were bringing the top performing ships like Leander (which is so, so much better than London). The number of people in that ship I have seen completely unaware of their smoke firing penalty, wondering why they're getting focused....
  19. invicta2012

    Defense of Newport Station

It's been much more difficult since they sped up the timings of the waves. I think, overall, it's been rebalanced as a battleship mission. Which is fn dull.

    Frigates

Except AA. Black Swan: dual purpose main guns, pom-poms, festooned with 20 mm oerlikons. Gallant: an angry man with a cricket bat, writing a letter to the council to complain The main problem with Frigates, Corvettes, etc (their WW2 iterations, at least) is a lack of speed and torpedo armament. Destroyer Escorts are too slow, even the British Hunt class DDs would be too slow at below 30 knots. We are getting a torpedo boat, though - the Scandiwegian Tier III is a second hand Spica class TBD. Given the amount of complaining about the Visby, though, I don't think this will be a direction WG will pursue at higher tiers.
  21. invicta2012

    Frigates

Where I'm going with it, in relation to the subject, is that by 1943 both the RN and USN had small convoy escort ships with significant AA defences capable of driving off bombing raids. The Black Swan class was one of the most capable anti-air and anti-submarine small ships of the war. The fact that AA is non-existent in WoWs for play style reasons is played out as a subject for discussion. Fun Fact: Three Black Swan class sloops were sold to West Germany in the 1950s. Their new names? Hipper, Scheer and Scharnhorst. Oh how the mighty are fallen....
  22. invicta2012

    Frigates

You can blame the Brits for that. We had Destroyers (torpedo ships, for work with the fleet), Sloops (convoy escorts and colonial duties, small, built to Naval dockyard standards), Corvettes (convoy escort ships descended from trawlers and other extreme weather civilian ships, could be built anywhere), Escort Destroyers (faster than Sloops/Corvettes, better sea boats than high speed destroyers, could be built in civilian yards) and Frigates (bigger than a Corvette, smaller than a Destroyer, specialist anti-sub, convoy escort ship).
  23. invicta2012

    Frigates

I'm talking about the AA packed by the actual Black Swan class, not the nerfed one at Tier I. Based on what the ships actually had, it's more AA than any British Destroyer until Lightning, and overall it's pretty similar to a Tier V/VI Cruiser (London, for example, has one extra 4 inch mount, five fewer 20mm mounts, and two octuple pom-poms as opposed to one quad). Hell, Cossack would love an AA outfit like that, and that ship is seven tiers higher.
  24. invicta2012

    Frigates

If all ships had AA like a Black Swan then CVs would be weeping. Six DP 4 inch guns, a quad pom-pom and 12 x 20 mm Oerlikons on a Tier I. More of that sort of thing, please.
